  Hi all, just wondering if there is a simple way in java to display the contents of say 16x16 array of doubles [0..1] as a greyscale image (ala matlab)? using an unfamiliar matrix library, so I'd like to check that I'm on the right track. don't really care if it is slow or ugly, or if it requires external library - it's just there for a quick look, so as long as it works, I'm fine.

• Rubygems on netbeans driving me crazy!

  I cant understand why Gems fetching failed, it was always working fine, i can't figure out how to solve this, hopefully somebody can help. Its driving me Crazy. • Working with processes in C

  Hi, just a quick question regarding C and processes. In my program, I create another child process and use a two-directional pipe to communicate between the child and parent. The child calls execl() to run yet another program. My question is: I want the parent to wait n amount of seconds and then check if the program that the child has run has exited (and with what status). Something like waitpid() but if the child doesn't exit in n seconds, I'd like to do something different.

I am woking on an Android application and I was wondering if there is a good way to take a route that I have created using Google Maps (snapping to roads) and use the API display this route on an Android application?   A quick question: When i pass a variable to a function, dose the program make a copy of that variable to use in the function? If it dose and I knew that the function would only read the variable and never write to it, is it possible to pass a variable to the function without creating a copy of that variable or should I just leave that up to the compiler optimizations to do that automatically for me?

• Simple 2-color differential image compression

  Is there an efficient, quick and simple example of doing differential b/w image compression? Or even better, some simple (but lossless) streaming technique which could accept a number of frames as input? I have a simple b/w image (320x200) stream, displaying something similar to a LED display, which is updated about once a second using AJAX. Images are pretty similar most of the time, so if I subtracted them, result would compress pretty well (even with simple RLE). Is something like this available?

• Powermock Slows Down Test Startup on Eclipse/Fedora 10 when on NTFS partition

  I've just started having a proper play with Powermock and noticed that it slows down test startup immensely. A quick look at top while it was running shows that mount.nfts-3g was taking up most of the CPU. I moved Eclipse and my source directory to ext3 partitions to see if that was a problem and the tests now startup quicker but there's still a noticeable delay. Is this normal with Powermock or am I missing something obvious?

Element are selected randomly from the data, so you can't take a subarray in the normal way (it has to be generalized for the elements that are selected).   I noticed some people don't bother having the usual incremented number as ID but instead simply generate a GUID. The advantages include: Quick and easy No need to keep track of previous IDs Guaranteed to be unique even across machines without knowledge of each other Some disadvantages are: Possibly performance bottleneck Uses a large number of bytes My understanding is that using a GUID is beneficial in most cases, except if optimization for time or space is an issue. Did I miss something? Or do you agree with this idea?

• Missing Coordinates. Basic Trigonometry Help.

  please refer to my quick diagram attached below. what i'm trying to do is get the coordinates of the yellow dots by using the angle from the red dots' known coordinates. assuming each yellow dot is about 20 pixels away from the x:50/y:250 red dot at a right angle (i think that's what it's called) how do i get their coordinates? i believe this is very basic trigonometry and i should use Math.tan(), but they didn't teach us much math in art school.
