• Audio input via HTML5?

  We have a VoIP application imVOX, and we are looking at various ways of expanding our reach. Part of that is writing an HTML5 application, but it requires the use of audio input from the browser (and also push to talk buttons from the browser, even if another app is focused). On the audio side, with HTML5 is there any way of taking audio input from the browser to compress and send to our servers? I know with Flash such is possible, but we're trying to avoid flash for mobile compatibility and generally looking toward the future.

• vs2010 Cache SQL data incorrect fields

  OK, I found a walkthrough on msdn for what I was after (offline database cache). However when I let the wizard create a local database from my online sql server the timespan fields are converted to a string?? Now I know the suggestion was to create my own local database and then use the MS Synch framework...however...this proclaims to do it "out of the box" However now I've a dataset which I've no idea how to use, and a database newly formed (for the synched cache) taht I will have to use Ling to Entities with(??) meanwhile I have this weird timespan to string conversion? should I give up now or push on? can i overwrite the the .designer.cs? typeof(string) to typeof(timespan)? damn wizards!!

• How to use Git properly with XCode?

  I have been an iphone developer for a while, and I have recently been including git in my workflow. I have used git settings found on http://shanesbrain.net/2008/7/9/using-xcode-with-git for my workflow so far. Those settings tell git to exclude *.pbxproj from merges? Is there a real reason for doing this? For example, when I add a file to the project and push to origin, my fellow developers will not have that file added to their xcode project when they pull. Then if one of them builds a release this file may not be included. Shouldn't I just let git handle the merges for the project file? Could someone please explain why or why not this file should be in merges and how to properly handle the situation when files are added to the project. Thanks.

• 2 way communication over http between a .Net service and Windows Forms Client

  I am looking to accomplish 2 way communication over http between a .Net service (WCF SOAP or REST, both options are open) hosted on IIS 7 and Windows Forms Client running on Windows 7. WebSockets are not supported with IIS 7 and all other Comet techniques allow only the web server to push data to client and not the other way around. The client will be very chatty, and there are thousands of clients, so I want to avoid creating a new HTTP request for each message to the server, though that is the last option. Is there any way to do this ?

• Zend Framework on a Shared Host

  I am trying to push my first ZF project to my shared hosting provider. I have done a lot of testing on my home server and everything is working great. My issue is that I do not know how to set up my .htaccess files on the shared hosting provider to make it work correctly. The ZF documentation says to configure my Apache config VirtualServer DocumentRoot to /whatever/path/project-folder/public, but I don't have that kind of access. How do I get around this? I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1115547/zend-framework-on-shared-hosting but none of those solutions have worked for me. My application path looks like this / - .htaccess - /application ... - /public -- .htaccess -- index.php -- ... ... • For the iPad or iPhone, how do you control the system Volume? For example, have a button that mutes

  I would like to make a button in my iPad app (probably will be similar to iPhone apps) that when I push this button, all audio is muted, even when you exit the app. I don't see anyway that you can control the volume, although I'm sure other apps have that I have seen in the app store for the iPhone. I also read some places that doing this would reject you from the app store. How could I go about lowering, or highering the volume of the iPad from an app that works even when the app closes? Thank you!

• Registering a delegate function with an ISO C++ callback (on mono)

  I am thinking of wrapping ISO C++ code in C# class. The only problem so far is how to deal with the C++ callbacks. In .Net languages (C# and Vb.Net), I believe the callback equivalent. Sticking with C# for now, can anyone recommend a way that I can register the C# delegate functions with my ISO C++ code. The ISO C++ code is a notification library, and I want to be able to "push" the notifications to the mono framework (i.e. C# delegates in this case). My underlying assumption is that the mechanism/steps to implement this would be the same for the .Net languages - I'll just have to code the actual delegates in the .Net language of choice - is that assumption correct? Last but not the least, is the question of thread saftey. The underlying ISO C++ code that I am exposing to .Net (mono to be more specific), is both re-ntrant and thread safe - do I have to do anything "extra" to call .Net delegate from my ISO C++ code?

  The thing is I writing a J2ME program that fisrt of all show a "menu" using graphics interface (GameCanvas) and when the user select one item, I need to setCurrent that item (ex. a List), but when return from the List (it could be because the user push a Command "Menu" Item) I need to show the menu again. The real problem when the menu show again, the keyPressed() listener of gamecanvas object stop working. Basically I have: A Midlet object with: GameCanvas object instance A List object instance I don't understand how that works, I didn't find tutorial that share low and high graphics-level APIs on one Midlet.

I cloned repository via ssh from bigger laptop (git clone ssh://adress) And when i will back, what is the best way to push changes from smaller laptop to the bigger one?   I have been searching all day and reading many tutorials and still I am confused. I am working on a project that has the following requirements as specified by the client (customer - not to be confused with client app): Connect to a remote server and verify that connection was successful. Connect to Web service on said server via SOAP. Authenticate with service using public key encryption Upon successful authentication, push a list of products and categories to a MSSQL database on remote server via the Web service. The client is a Winforms application written in C#. So far, I have created a WCF Service Application with separate services for the products and categories but I cannot figure the rest out. • Reduce Heroku Compiled Slug Size

  I've just updated rails to v2.3.6 on my app under a bamboo-ree-1.8.7 stack and the compiled slug size has grown up to 40.5Mb! Previous to that last git push, the slug size was about 20Mb and was using rails v2.3.5. Is it because my slug has both of rails versions installed? Probably I'm missing something but I haven't added any special code/files into my app as to increase the slug size by ~20Mb. Can you point me on how can I reduce the slug size? • How to access Session values from layers beneath the web application layer.

  We have many instances in our application where we would like to be able to access things like the currently logged in user id in our business domain and data access layer. On log we push this information to the session, so all of our front end code has access to it fairly easily of course. However, we are having huge issues getting at the data in lower layers of our application. We just can't seem to find a way to store a value in the business domain that has global scope just for the user (static classes and properties are of course shared by the application domain, which means all users in the session share just one copy of the object). We have considered passing in the session to our business classes, but then our domain is very tightly coupled to our web application. We want to keep the prospect of a winforms version of the application possible going forward. I find it hard to believe we are the first people to have this sort of issue. How are you handling this problem in your applications?

• Truncate text if it atempts to run into three lines

  I have a small about 140px wide aligned next to a picture. In total there is space for four lines of text. The first two lines are reserved for the title and there are two lines of other info. I want the title to be cut if it spans more than two lines else it will push the other info out of line with the bottom of the image. The only solution I could think of was to create a div the height of two lines with an overflow to hidden. However, if the title is only one line it leaves a big gap. The solution can be Jquery, plain javascript, CSS or even PHP (if its possible). TIA

• Why TortoiseHg not show the "merge conflict"?

  Short version of the question: Since I already have TortoiseHg, I right clicked on that file trying to see the merge conflict visually, but there is no way to see it? Details: To make a simple case of merge conflict, I hg init a repo on Win 7, and then clone it to another folder. Now, in one working directory, i added the line "the code is 123", committed. And in the other folder, i did an "hg pull" and "hg update" Now, I go back to the first folder, and change "123" to "123abc", and then do an "hg commit" And then I go to the other folder and edit "123" to "123xyz" over there, and do an "hg commit", and when "hg push", it says it can't. So I try to use any visual tool to see how the conflict is like, but ... TortoiseHg doesn't seem to have any option to do that?

  I am designing a simple peer to peer network. The basic architecture will be as follows: A central server- that keeps track of all the peers. The job of this server is to keep track of all the peers that join the network. Every peer could do things: a. Download a file from it's peer b. Push a file (send a file) to it's peer. Could anybody please tell me what would be the best design for such a system? What would be the problems that i might run into and so on. I am planning to use Java as the programming language to implement. Would it be a good choice? Also, is it necessary that i would need a Linux box to develop the system? or is it fine if i use a Windows machine? Your help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

  In Seam, using log4, I would like to have my info, warn and error always logging the logged in user (if so) name to be logged with whatever the log message is. Being a consistant thing I do not want to have to grab the logged-in user name, and prefix the message. so I attempted to populate the log4j NDC to have it as a field of the log message. Pushing the user name on successful login: NDC.push(credentials.getUsername()); Which works, but the NDC is managed per thread, so once another thread processes a request from the same logged in user, the trace of this user name is lost. I was thinking that there should be a common pattern to accomplish this simple task which is attaching each log message to the logged user, using the NDC or not, to know exactly what user triggered what action. Anyone knows the appropriate way to accomplish this?

Is it possible to set up a system so that you have a private GIT server that you host, which automatically syncs with a remote one, hosted by a site like Sourceforge, and then you can commit your local to the private GIT server, and then when you have to merge the changes from your private wip branches that are on your private GIT over to the master/branch/tag from the public GIT, and then push the change to the public GIT? I ask this because I have a lot of personal work I would like to get working before putting it up for the public to see, and I'm shifting between several computers/operating systems in the process. If this is not possible in standard GIT, are there any other options that would allow me to do this? Thanks, Peter

  Hi, I don't know if my question will be clear or not, but i'm starting basic stuff with iphone programming, and i'm trying to understand how to go from a screen to another. lets say i have a screen with a "next page" button and another page with a "return" button. I have a general idea of how to do this, but I don't know how to put it together. I think I need an IBAction method for each button, and in each method a navigation controller with pushViewController. Is there risk of the binaries getting detached from the spreadsheet It seems like microsoft has been pushing VSTO for over 5 years now but you read lots of mixed reviews and issues. Are we at the point where companies that do large VBA excel solutions can fully migrate over to dotnet without any real worries?
