• How to avoid Hotmail/Live rejections for (legit) large volume eMailing?

  While qualifying eMail for Spam, Hotmail/Live checks the historical records of numbers of eMails sent by a sender (FROM, eMail Server, IP, etc.). Some times, perfectly valid bulk eMails that are not Spam, (i.e. double opt-in list, from a server with proper SPF Record, signed with DKIM, unregister links and contact info, etc.) are rejected and not delivered to destinataries. Not even to their Junk folder. I guess we can avoid this situation by progressivelly "training" Hotmail/Live about the reputation of our sender and sending small quantyties of eMails innitially and increasing the quantity for some amount/percentaje during each delivery. Are there guidelines or do you have any experience on these quantities, strategy, solutions? Thank you in advance. • Problem with user generated content

  In general, what do you think is better in regards to adding content to a site, to allow users to add content to the site and put a flag button to report it if it doesn't fit with the site, or should only I add the content and remove that option? It will be a small site but I don't know if I'll manage to scan the site constantly or deal with the flags and on the other hand I'm worried that the site wont move forward because there will be lot less content, thoughts?

• Stop Apache serving filetypes

  Preferably using .htaccess files, though .conf files are an option, is there any way to stop Apache serving certain filetypes? For example, .db shouldn't be served for obvious reason (privacy and whatnot, etc.), so could I make them show as a 404 but still have them available for my CGI scripts? Putting these sensitive files in a directory other than /public_HTML/ is also an option, though I like having them in the same directory as the scripts for ease of use. Cheers

• Mod_rewrite and urls that don't end with .php

  I'm trying to use Mod_rewrite to hide the .php extensions of my pages. However, it refuses to do any rewriting unless the input url ends with .php, which makes that impossible. I can confirm that rewriting works fine as long as the url has .php at the end. RewriteRule a\.php b\.php Works, while RewriteRule a\.html b\.html does not. How can I turn off this behavior and allow it to rewrite all urls? I'm on a shared host so whatever I do has to be done from a .htaccess file. Update: There seems to be some confusion about what I'm asking here. The question is not about how to write the rule, the question is about server configuration. The rule I'm using is fine, I can test that locally. But the server I'm working with is somehow configured so that mod_rewrite doesn't attempt to rewrite anything that doesn't end with .php

• Problem in Addon Domain name binding with existing directory in my webspace

  I recently purchased a domain thinkzarahatke.com. At the time of purchasing i selected an option, say url redirect, to my existing site. Further I had entered Naming server detail. But I dint find any other option to change URL rewrite parameters under Domain Name Manager. From the cPanel of my hosting space, I had added new domain as addon and set a sundirectory for it. Now If I am trying to access my new domain directly, it is automatically redirecting to my old website. While if i access some inside directory, like thinkzarahatke.com/blog, then i am able to access to my new site. What wrong i done? Please tell me if i need to do some more settings with addon domain.

  From the Google keyword research tool, I see "chuck norris jokes" has global 246,000 searches. And again searching "jokes chuck norris" has the same search result. But as see, order of keyword in search terms has, "hello how are you" and "how are you hello" has clearly different results. Now instead of search term (assuming "chuck norris jokes"), I was wondering, if I had to register chucknorrisjokes.com and jokeschucknorris.com, would it effect the ranking on the search result? Or would it be the same? As we see here, both the domains has the same keywords, just in different order. How would that effect? I hope what I am trying to say is clear.

• Google Analytics Goal Tracking for Sub-Domains?

  I am trying to track goals in Google Analytics for a website that has the goal URL on a sub-domain. The main domain for example is: domain.com and the sub-domain is my.domain.com. I have Google Analytics configured to track domains and all sub-domains and I've eve set up an advanced filter so I can see traffic to my sub-domains in Analytics. However, in goal tracking, you're supposed to put in the website URL after the front (so if it were domain.com/conversions/ you'd put in just /conversions/). However, since for me it would be my.domain.com/conversions/, how would I input that URL into Analytics to track? Would Analytics automatically determine the URL to be on the sub-domain? Thanks!

• cPanel email doesn't seem to work - error 550?

  I am fairly new to the web hosting game, so bear with me :) Recently set up a VPS with cPanel and WHM. Everything is going well so far, I've created a user domain and transferred my website there, managed a couple of databases with phpmyadmin, everything was going great until I started messing around with email. I made an email account [email protected] through cPanel, although when I try and email this address I get the following error: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unknown user (state 13) Quite unsure of what to do next, in all honesty.

• How can I set the default page for an https request?

  We have a website which has a Virtual Directory containing the secure portion of the website. If users come to http://www.mydomain.com, they should get directed to default.aspx of the main site, but if they go to https://www.mydomain.com, they should go to default.aspx of the virtual directory. The default page for the main site works fine, however I can't figure out how to set the default page for https traffic. Right now going to https://www.mydomain.com simply gives me a Page Not Found error. How can I set this up in IIS on Windows Server 2003?

  Does anyone know if authorize.net's SIM rids you of having to be PCI compliant? The payment form is hosted on authorize.net's site and they're processing the payment. I know you can do a relay response which basically puts some of the transaction details in a url that goes back to your website(to display a receipt). I'm not sure what all information gets put into the url though. I'm wondering if that makes you have to become PCI compliant?

• iFrame content pageviews not matching parent page pageviews

  I have a page with content hosted in an iFrame, both using the same GA account ID. When I look at the pages report, the parent page has about 9000 unique views, but the iFrame content only has 3700. Anyone have an idea what could cause that kind of discrepancy? My only guess is that it would be caused by people moving on before the iFrame content has a chance to load, but the average time on page for the host page is 56 seconds, so that doesn't seem possible. This is the page in question: http://cookware.lecreuset.com/cookware/content_le-creuset-lid_10151_-1_20002 The flipbook is hosted in the iFrame on a separate domain. I have each page of the flipbook triggering a virtual pageview to try to evaluate engagement with the book - when the flipbook loads, it fires a pageview for the page it is on, so that is the page I'm using for the 3700 number. I also looked at the source of the iFrame in the pages report, and that number just about matches the virtual pageviews so that piece is consistent. Any ideas on this are much appreciated. Thanks!

I have a tutorial website, and my categories is something like: Web Development -> Client Side -> JavaScript So if I have a tutorial called "What is JavaScript?", is it good to have a URL that looks something like: www.MyWebsite.com/web-development/client-side/javascript/what-is-javascipt Or would something like this be more appropriate: www.MyWebsite.com/tutorials/what-is-javascipt Just curious because I also read that it is wise to have keywords in your URLs. Do I need to add the identifiers of each categories in the link as well, something like: www.MyWebsite.com/1/web-development/5/client-side/15/javascript/100/what-is-javascipt 1 is the unique identifier (primary key) of category web development 5 is the unique identifier (primary key) of category client side 15 is the unique identifier (primary key) of category javascript 100 is the unique identifier (primary key) of tutorial what is javascript UPDATE This is not a programming question so can someone please help migrate this to the correct Q&A site without devoting my questions?

  As all SEOs know that google is trying its very best to kill SEO and linkbacks are quite a difficult task now. Although content is the key but my boss is still possessed with linkbacks.   Hello, A CMS-based site I manage is suffering from a small but ominously growing number of almost certainly bot-emplaced, invisible spam links placed in registered-user-only shoutboxes and user forums. "Link Spam", yes? Until recently, I've kept my eyes on narrow tech issues, and I'm having trouble understanding what's going on. I understand that we need to tighten up our registration procedures, but more generally... Do I understand correctly that our primary interest in combatting link spam on our site is that major search engines reduce or zero the search visibility of sites that contain link spam? Although we're non-commercial, we don't want to be at the bottom of the rankings, or eliminated altogether. Are the linked-to sites the direct beneficiaries of the spam links, or is there some kind of indirection? What is the likely relationship between the link-spammers and the owners of the (directly or indirectly) linked-to sites? Are the owners of the linked-to sites paying the link-spammers for higher visibility? Are the owners aware that this method is being used? It is my impression that major search engines are capable these days of detecting that given sites are being promoted by link spam, and that these sites may consequently be reduced in search rank or dropped altogether. Do these sanctions occur frequently? Is there any potential value in sending notifications to the owners of the linked-to sites that their visibility is at risk? TIA, hen3ry
