• Is registering your app through iTunesConnect required to test GameKit integration?

  I'd like to add GameKit integration to my app. I was hoping to be able to evaluate how it works. From the docs I found, it seems that I have to register my app through iTunes Connect first. I'm new to the iOS development front, so maybe I'm wrong here, but it seems like registering your app in iTunes Connect is a pretty final step, and I'd like to be able to test things before going through that step. So, I guess I have two questions: 1.) Do I have to register my app with iTunes Connect before being able to use GameKit? 2.) Am I being crazy about not wanting to register with iTunes Connect yet? Should I stop worrying and just do it?

• Export view data programmatically in Access/SQL Server

  We have an Access application front-end connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. We would like to be able to programmatically export the results of some views to whatever format we can (ideally Excel, but CSV / tab delimited is fine). Up until now we've just hit F11, opened up the view, and hit File-Save As, but we're starting to get results with more than 16,000 results, which can't be exported. I'd like some sort of server side stored procedure we can trigger that will do this. I'm aware of the sp_makewebtask procedure that does this, however it requires administrative rights on the server, and for obvious reasons we can't give that to everyone. Any ideas?

• Jetty with a custom JUL logger

  I feel this should be easier, or I am missing something obvious. I am trying to use our custom JUL logging library with Jetty. No matter where I put the JAR file for the custom logger, it is not found. I have tried the usual suspects; /lib/, /lib/ext/, /WEB-INF/lib/ and even manually added it to the classpath. 2011-06-29 15:27:34.518::INFO: Started [email protected]:8080 Can't load log handler "net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:217) I am starting up Jetty using "-jar start.jar" technique. Searching around, I have spotted a couple of threads that talk about this problem, but with no resolution. Or if there was, they didn't answer with their solution. Can anyone help on this front? • Will PHP Die In Web Page Development World?

  I know that PHP is still the most popular web programming language in the world. This question just want to bring some of my concerns about PHP. PHP is naturally bound to C10K problem. Since PHP (generally run in Apache) cannot be event-driven or asynchronous, each HTTP request will occupy at least one thread or process. This makes it resistant to be more scalable. Currently, a lot of web sites (like Facebook) with high performance and scalability still depends on PHP in their front end servers. I suppose it is due to legacy reason. Is it possible that PHP will be replaced by language more suitable for C10K?

  How likely is a revision conflict when using an update handler? Should I concern myself with conflict-handling code when writing a robust update function? As described in Document Update Handlers, CouchDB 0.10 and later allows on-demand server-side document modification. Update handlers can process non-JSON formats; but the other major features are these: An HTTP front-end to arbitrarily complex document modification code Similar code needn't be written for all possible clients—a DRY architecture Execution is faster and less likely to hit a revision conflict I am unclear about the third point. Executing locally, the update handler will run much faster and with lower latency. But in situations with high contention, that does not guarantee a successful update. Or does the update handler guarantee a successful update?

• Looking for a good explanation of the table generation macro idiom

  I want to make this clear up front : I know how this trick works, what I want is a link to a clear explanation to share with others. One of the answers to a C macro question talks about the "X macro" or "not yet defined macro" idiom. This involves defining something like: #define MAGIC_LIST \ X(name_1, default_1) \ X(name_2, default_2) \ ... Then to create, say, an array of values with named indices you do: typedef enum { #define X(name, val) name, MAGIC_LIST #undef X } NamedDefaults; You can repeat the procedure with a different #define for X() to create an array of values, and maybe debugging strings, etc. I'd like a link to a clear explanation of how this works, pitched at someone who is passably familiar with C. I have no idea what everyone usually calls this pattern, though, so my attempts to search the web for it have failed thus far. (If there is such an explanation on SO, that'd be fine...)

• Java Swing app hangs when run in normal mode but runs fine in debug mode

  I am writing a basic Java application with a Swing front-end. Basically it loads some data from a Derby database via Apache Cayenne and then displays it in a JTable. I'm doing my development in Eclipse and I don't think it's important but I'm using Maven for dependencies. Now this works fine when I run using Debug but it seems to hang the display thread when I use the Run button. I've done a thread dump and I'm not 100% certain but everything looks good. I used Java VisualVM and the threads look fine there as well. Strangely it seems to work intermittently. It's pretty consistent though and easy to reproduce. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all out of them.

• Does Windows 7 have a Kiosk Mode?

  I'm writing a Kiosk on a Windows 7 computer. The Kiosk is on a touch screen computer, that will not have a keyboard. The application is a WPF application running the .NET Framework version 3.5. I'm having problems with the progress bar task bar showing up (blinking) at the bottom of the screen. This unfortunately gives the user access to the background operating system. Is there someway to lock a full screen application window into the front of the screen without using it on-top-of-everything mode. Some sort of Kiosk mode, or some tool that was designed for this.

  I need to ask a general question. I don't have the code in front of me because I'm writing this on my iPhone. I have a Class that represents a certain XML schema. I have a SPROC that returns this XML. What I need to do is deserialize the XML to this Class. XML: <xml> <person> <firstName>Bob</firstName> <lastName>Robby</lastName> </person> </xml> I need to deserialize this XML into the custom Person Class so I can loop through this Model and spit it out in the View. I'm sure there's some kind of casting involved, I just don't know how to do it.

• Delphi - Create form behind another form.

  Hi guys, I'm using Delphi 4. I have a main form with a button that dynamically creates a new form. I'd like the new form to be visible, but shows up BEHIND the main form. I've tried calling SendToBack() immediately after FormCreate(). But that makes the window flicker quickly before it's actually sent to back. I've tried making the form invisible, then SentToBack(), then Visible := true. But the new form is still at the front. SendToBack() doesn't seem to work on invisible forms?? Any suggestions? Thanks!

• why message box is always hidden behind main dialog and cannot be shown on the top

  I am using MFC to write a GUI application. I chose dialog-based application, and put picture control, edit box and buttons on it. When the picture control is mapped to the class derived from CWnd using DDX_Control, all the message boxes (including default system message box pop up when you enter invalid input in the edit box) are hidden behind main dialog until you use "alt + tab" to bring them to front. If I map the picture control to the default CStatic class, the above problem disappeared. Do anyone has some hints to solve this problem? Thank you in advance for any help.

• Can Tomcat provide seperate (or HTTPS only) sessions for HTTPS requests?

  I have a web application which contains both secure (SSL) and non-secure pages. A user can login to the site and must appear logged-in in both the SSL and non-SSL areas. (NB. SSL isn't implemented via Tomcat, but via Apache HTTPD servers which sit in front of Tomcat - so Tomcat has no SSL configuration.) The logged-in state is currently maintained via a servlet session (using Tomcat's vanilla session management). The obvious issue with this approach is that the JSESSIONID cookie is transported over both HTTP and HTTPS connections, meaning that it's potentially possible to intercept it and hijack the session. Are there any solutions to this without rolling our own session management (i.e. does Tomcat cater for this situation)? I'm prepared to implement our own session management, but don't want to reinvent something that may already be supported.

• My AES encryption/decryption functions don't work with random ivecs

  I was bored and wrote a wrapper around openSSL to do AES encryption with less work. If I do it like this: http://pastebin.com/V1eqz4jp (ivec = 0) Everything works fine, but the default ivec is all 0's, which has some security problems. Since I'm passing the data back as a string anyway, I figured, why not generate a random ivec and stick it to the front, the take it back off when I decrypt the string?   Hi, I have multiple shapes and checkboxes in a spreadsheet. I want to create a function that places a particular shape to front (a higher Z-order than its peers) when its corresponding checkbox is clicked. • How to read tags out of m4a files in .NET?

  I've got some heavily modified code that ultimately came from the Windows Media SDK that works great for reading tags out of MP3 and WMV files. Somewhere along the line, Windows Media Player added support for .m4a files (was it in Windows 7?) but the Windows Media API doesn't seem to reflect that addition (or at least IWMMetadataEditor2::OpenEx pukes on an .m4a file). What would be some good C# code or links on how to dig meta data tags out of m4a files? (Google has come up dry on the C# front.) UPDATE AtomicParsley did indeed end being the best approach. Since that code is a command line tool however I ended up having to create a managed wrapper around some of its functionality in order to use in-process. It is posted on google code if anyone else needs such a thing.

• Regex for Searching for Text Not Preceeded By a Specific String

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

I don't want the user thinking about viewing finite pieces of data; it should appear that all of the data is available. Rather than downloading all the data at once, small chunks are downloaded as the user comes to them (by scrolling, keying in row numbers, searching). The rows will not be edited through this front end, so read-only answers are acceptable. What JavaScript data grids are best for this kind of seamless paging?

• Best way to do something when a runloop event is done processing?

  I have some processing in my Cocoa app that sometimes ends up calling through a hierarchy of data to do a bunch of work as the result of an event. Each small piece creates and destroys some resources. I don't want those resources around most of the time, but I would like to find a smart way of creating them before all the work and killing them at the end. Short of creating the resources up front and then passing them entirely down through the call hierarchy when work is done, is there a way to know locally in some code when an event loop run has ended? Then I could create them if they're not there, and keep them until the run loop ends, reusing them for any subsequent calls before that time. Thanks.

• Which data structure for List of objects + datagrid wiev

  Hi, I have to develop a code which will store a list of objects, as example below 101, value 11, value 12, value 13 ...etc 102, value 21, value 22, value 23 ...etc 103, value 31, value 32, value 33 ...etc 104, value 41, value 42, value 43 ...etc Now, the difficulty is, that first column is an identifier, and whole table should always be sorted by it. Easy access to each element is required. Additionally, list should be easily updated, and extended by adding element at the end as well as in front and still keep being sorted by first column. Finally, I would like to be able to display values of the above in datagridview. What is most important is a performance of the implementation, as rows will be updated many times per second, and datagridview should be able to display all changes immediately. I was thinking about creating class for the values, and then a Dictionary but encountered a problem with displaying values in gridview. What would be the most optimal way of implementing the code?   I am using the following tables in mysql to describe records that can have multiple searchtags associated with them: TABLE records ID title desc TABLE searchTags ID name TABLE recordSearchTags recordID searchTagID To SELECT records based on arbitrary search input, I have a statement that looks sort of like this: SELECT recordID FROM recordSearchTags LEFT JOIN searchTags ON recordSearchTags.searchTagID = searchTags.ID WHERE searchTags.name LIKE CONCAT('%','$search1','%') OR searchTags.name LIKE CONCAT('%','$search2','%') OR searchTags.name LIKE CONCAT('%','$search3','%') OR searchTags.name LIKE CONCAT('%','$search4','%'); I'd like to ORDER this resultset, so that rows that match with more search terms are displayed in front of rows that match with fewer search terms. For example, if a row matches all 4 search terms, it will be top of the list. A row that matches only 2 search terms will be somewhere in the middle. And a row that matches just one search term will be at the end. Any suggestions on what is the best way to do this? Thanks!

  Magento, IMHO, represents a PHP system that is built on well thought-out coding principles - reuseable design patterns being one of them. In terms of an example of a PHP system, I think it can be considered pretty cutting edge and therefore worth considering from an architectural point of view. As I understand it, there are many design patterns that are available to the OOP developer. Seeing such patterns being put to use in an open-source system such as Magento allows a developer to view examples of such patterns in real use and in situ, rather than in examples that can sometimes be rather achedemic, and even a little misleading. As such, I am wondering what patterns, other than the ones I have listed below, Magento programmers have used when developing for Magento. As a note, I understand that some of these patterns are in place as a consequence of being built on the Zend Framework, MVC / Front Controller being a couple of them, The obvious ones are: Factory: $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product'); Singleton: $category = Mage::getSingleton('catalog/session'); Registry: $currentCategory = Mage::registry('current_category');

• How Do I Remove The First 4 Characters From A String If It Matches A Pattern In Ruby

  I have the following string: "h3. My Title Goes Here" I basically want to remove the first 4 characters from the string so that I just get back: "My Title Goes Here". The thing is I am iterating over an array of strings and not all have the h3. part in front so I can't just ditch the first 4 characters blindly. I have checked the docs and the closest think I could find was chomp, but that only works for the end of a string. Right now I am doing this: "h3. My Title Goes Here".reverse.chomp(" .3h").reverse This gives me my desired output, but there has to be a better way right? I mean I don't want to reverse a string twice for no reason. I am new to programming so I might have missed something obvious, but I didn't see the opposite of chomp anywhere in the docs. Is there another method that will work? Thanks!

  Hi, i'm using linux and php 5.2.12 i have problem with executing proc_open if i use proc_open('php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes); it will show me error sh: /php: No such file or directory if i use proc_open('/usr/bin/php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes); or proc_open('php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes, '/usr/bin/'); it still show me same error. i have no idea why it always append slash in front of command. any help please? thanks!
