• Problem With Inserts of multibyte (converted to utf-8) strings in the mysql tables of utf_unicode_ci encoding

Every keyword shows up properly with no problems in unicode conversions etc. Now, When I am adding these words to the database column of a table, the words show up as messed up. http domainsoutlook.com/b/site/bhaskar.com.html For example on this front end page if you see there is a keyword that is shown as a blank but still occurs on the website 8 times. (It isnt empty in the database though). I have checked and there is no problem with mysql_real_escape_String...because the output stays the same before and after the word is gone through mysql_real_escape_String. Another problem was that I wanted to fix my urls for arabic language. They should be showing up as /word-{1st letter of the word}/{whole word}.html but its showing as /word-{whole word}/{1st letter of the word}.html I really need answers for these two questions.

  Hi, Basically, I'm looking for an easy way (module) to add a private/public option to any kind of content I may published in Drupal (blog entry, image, etc.). So that when I'm logged in, I can see everything. But when an anonymous user visit the site, he will only see the public stuff. It's way to manage a kind of front window/back-store architecture. I can use the same Drupal installation to all my needs and choose to filter the stuff I may want to make publicly available. * Important : 1) Private items must not be accessible even if anonymous users guess its URL; 2) Private item must not show up if anonymous user perform a search; 3) Private content must not be indexed by search engines; 4) Private items should show up if I perform a search while being logged in. • new image makes http request even though cached?

  I have a javascript slide show that creates the next slide dynamically and then moves it into view. Since the images are actually sprites, the src is transparent.png and the actual image is mapped via background:url(.. in css. Everytime (well, most of the time) the script creates a new Element, Firefox makes an http request for transparent.png. I have a far-future expires header, and Firefox is respecting all other files' expiries. Is there a way to avoid these unnecessary requests. Even though the server is returning 304 unmodified responses, it would be nice if Firefox would respect the expiries on dynamically created images. I suspect that if I injected a simple string instead of using new Element, this might solve the problem, but I use some methods on Prototypes extended Element object, so I would like to avoid a bunch of html strings in my js file. This is a nit-picky question, but I'm working on front-end optimization now, so I thought I would address it. Thanks.

• When loading shopping cart in Magento with a new Payment module, I get an error I haven't been able

  I am trying to add a new payment module into Magento. However, even after commenting out the vast majority of the code, I still get the following error: Fatal error: Call to a member function isAvailable() on a non-object in /var/www/html/app/code/core/Mage/Payment/Helper/Data.php on line 71 I am using Magento 1.4.0.1, and have disabled the cache. I even emptied the cache several times just in case. The only code currently not commented out is based on the tutorials here and here. The error occurs when the cart is loaded either from the administration area or the front end. Is there anyone out there that has run into a similar issue? I would post code, but I am not sure what needs to be posted. Thanks for the assistance.

• Joomla article not showing in the frontend but its visible in administrative part.

  I have a very big article to be put into our joomla site. At first I was getting "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 285487 bytes) in..." . But then I increased the memory_limit in php.ini . And I was able to create the article. Now I can view the article by logging into backend. But the article is not at all visible in the front end. If I click on the menu item pointing to that article, all I can see is a blank page with nothing in it. All other articles in the site are visible properly. Any idea? ps: I have enabled the error reporting to maximum, also ran the site in debugging mode. But saw nothing unusual.

• OpenGL - lighting of vertices outside clip range

  I have a problem with lighting in my OpenGL application. When one of the vertices of a drawn polygon goes outside the front clip plane (or has z<0, I'm not sure which), the polygon stops being lighted properly. This however happens on only one machine I tested, with Intel GMA950 card. On nVidia and ATI cards everything looks fine. I guess I am breaking some OpenGL rule here? How should I deal with it? I'd try dividing the scene into smaller polygons, but I'm not sure if it guarantees the case is eliminated (all polygons stepping outside the clipping range are offscreen).

• How to properly reserve identity values for usage in a database?

  We have some code in which we need to maintain our own identity (PK) column in SQL. We have a table in which we bulk insert data, but we add data to related tables before the bulk insert is done, thus we can not use an IDENTITY column and find out the value up front. The current code is selecting the MAX value of the field and incrementing it by 1. Although there is a highly unlikely chance that two instances of our application will be running at the same time, it is still not thread-safe (not to mention that it goes to the database everytime). I am using the ADO.net entity model. How would I go about 'reserving' a range of id's to use, and when that range runs out, grab a new block to use, and guarantee that the same range will not be used.

• Do you draw the entire object?

  Hi I'm working on learning 3d game development and I'm starting with JavaScript and the html5 canvas and I was wondering if I were to have a 3d model do I draw the entire model(front, back, etc) and let the web browser decide what to render or should I try to just draw the sides that are in view of the camera? I ask this because I can see how it would be faster to do the latter of the 2 but that can get very complex and I'll need to do quite a bit more research to find how to do that. Thanks!!

• Tips for improving performance of DB that is above size 40 GB (Sql Server 2005) and growing monthly

  The current DB or our project has crossed over 40 GB this month and on an average it is growing monthly by around 3 GB. Now all the tables are best normalized and proper indexing has been used. But still as the size is growing it is taking more time to fire even basic queries like 'select count(1) from table'. So can u share some more points that will help in this front. Database is Sql Server 2005. Further if we implement Partitioning wouldn't it create a overhead ? Thanks in advance.

• in java, which is better - three arrays of booleans or 1 array of bytes?

  I know the question sounds silly, but consider this: I have an array of items and a labelling algorithm. at any point the item is in one of three states. The current version holds these states in a byte array, where 0, 1 and 2 represent the three states. alternatively, I could have three arrays of boolean - one for each state. which is better (consumes less memory) depends on how jvm (sun's version) stores the arrays - is a boolean represented by 1 bit? (p.s. don't start with all that "this is not the way OO/Java works" - I know, but here performance comes in front. plus the algorithm is simple and perfectly readable even in such form). The FC figures out what page you want, loads the specific page Controller (*EDIT* which extends an abstract Controller Object */EDIT*), which gets anything it needs from Models, and then calls the appropriate View. Very basic. But now, I need to make an admin section (quasi-CMS). How does a login system fit into the grand scheme of things? Do you set controllers as needing a login? If so, how?   I am trying to catch any https traffic to the front of my site so: https://www.domain.com is redirected to: http://www.domain.com However other subdomains need to be redirected elsewhere. For the most part this is all working, apart from the https - http redirection. In fact it doesn't seem to redirect at all. In another subdirectory I have the opposite in effect which works fine: RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} so my thinking is the opposite should have done the job, but seemingly not. Any thoughts anyone?

  Hello I am using MOSS with ADS. I want to display Terms of Use page before the user can login into SharePoint with two button i.e. "Accept","Decline". If user select "Accept" he will be directed to sharepoint site, if not to our companies intranet front page. This will be applicable for the current session. ie. If the user has signed off, then it should prompt the terms of use again when user hits the MOSS site but once accepted user should not get this page again until he/she signs off. Please advise.   how do you store an rsa encrypted data block? the output might be significantly greater than the original input data block size, and i dont think people waste memory by padding bucket loads of 0s in front of each data block. besides, how would they be removed? or is each block stored on new lines within the file? if that is the case, how would you tell the difference between legitimate new line and a '\n' char written into the file? what am i missing? im writing the "write to file" part in python, so maybe its one of the differences between: open(file,'w') open(file,'w+b') open(file,'wb') that i dont know. or is it something else?

• Bring another processes Window to foreground when it has ShowInTaskbar = false

  We only want one instance of our app running at any one time. So on start up it looks to see if the app is running and if it is, it calls SetForegroundWindow on the Main Window. This is all good and well ... for the most part.. When our app starts up it will show a Splash screen and a Logon form. Both of these forms have ShowInTaskBar = false. Because of this, if you try to start up another copy of the app when the Logon form is showing, that Logon form is not brought to the front! Especially as the user cant see anything in the taskbar as well, all they figure is that the app is duff and cannot start. There is no indication that there is another instance running. Is there any way around this problem?

• Why do most Database developers hate Agile

  To me "Agile" methodology is a common-sense oriented approach and one that should likely be adopted for most software projects. I find that while a lot of Middle Tier Developers and Front End developers find it a very sensible project delivery model, plenty of Database developers (and good ones) seem to be totally against it. They are very keen on knowing the biggest picture and designing a database solution that will cater to that. They do not seem to like "Vertical striping" of a functionality. They would rather see the complete design document/feature document instead of concentrating on small user stories. Sarcasm aside, can someone realistically provide some insight as to why this mentality is prevalent? Especially DB devs? What would be a convincing argument against that?

• MySQL Locks: order of unblocked threads

  I have a MySQL ISAM table being accessed my multiple php instances. Right now I'm using a WRITE lock to serialize access to this table. My question is how do I ensure that the PHP instances get served on a First-Come-First-Serve basis? Or is this the default behaviour? The official MySQL documentation doesn't mention anything about the blocked thread order for threads of the same lock type (ie multiple threads attempting a WRITE LOCK). It only mentions that a WRITER will jump to the front of the waiting queue if READERS are waiting.

• Java and Different Types of Stacks

  Currently the only stack I know anything about is Vector, I normally use this in place of an array but I understand that there is other types of stacks and they all suit different jobs. The project I am currently working on requires me to be inserting objects in a certain position inside a stack, not always the front of the stack and I am under the impression that a Vector may not be the best class for this job. Could somebody please give me a brief description of the other types of stacks available to me with the Java language and their advantages and disadvantages? Are these names homogeneous? E.g. Are they only used in the Java language or are they used as general terms in Computer Science? Thank you

• AS3: resizing as a result of an eventListener

  Hi everyone, I have coded a map that when a province object is clicked on, it should move to the center of the screen and grow a percentage of the width, along with displaying a number of different things. The problem is that in order for the image to resize it needs to be clicked on twice. It moves, and all of the children display just as they were designed to do, but the resize doesn't work on the first try. • Showing custom model validation exceptions in the Django admin site.

  I have a booking model that needs to check if the item being booked out is available. I would like to have the logic behind figuring out if the item is available centralised so that no matter where I save the instance this code validates that it can be saved. At the moment I have this code in a custom save function of my model class: def save(self): if self.is_available(): # my custom check availability function super(MyObj, self).save() else: # this is the bit I'm stuck with.. raise forms.ValidationError('Item already booked for those dates') This works fine - the error is raised if the item is unavailable, and my item is not saved. I can capture the exception from my front end form code, but what about the Django admin site? How can I get my exception to be displayed like any other validation error in the admin site?
