  • Creating a voxel chunk with a VBO - How to translate the coordinates of each block and add it to the VBO chunk?

    - by sunsunsunsunsun
    Im trying to make a voxel engine similar to minecraft as a little learning experience and a way to learn some opengl. I have created a chunk class and I want to put all of the vertices for the whole chunk into a single VBO. I was previously only putting each block into a vbo and making a call to render each block. Anyways, I am a bit confused about how I can translate the coordinates of each block in the chunk when I'm putting all vertices into one vbo. This is what I have at the moment. public void putVertices(float tx, float ty, float tz) { float l_length = 1.0f; float l_height = 1.0f; float l_width = 1.0f; vertexPositionData.put(new float[]{ xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty,zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty,zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty,zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + -l_length + tx, -l_height + ty,zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty,zOffset + -l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + l_width + tz, xOffset + l_length + tx, -l_height + ty, zOffset + -l_width + tz }); } public void createChunk() { vertexPositionData = BufferUtils.createFloatBuffer((24*3)*activateBlocks); Random random = new Random(); for (int x = 0; x < CHUNK_SIZE; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < CHUNK_SIZE; y++) { for (int z = 0; z < CHUNK_SIZE; z++) { if(blocks[x][y][z].getActive()) { putVertices(x*2.0f, y*2.0f, z*2.0f); } } } } Whats any easy way to translate the vertices of each block into its correct position? I was previously using glTranslatef with each call to render block but this wont work now. What I am doing now also does not work, the blocks all render in stacks on top of each other and it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/NyFtBTI.png Thanks

  • Draw on screen border in Commodore 64

    - by Stefano Borini
Ok. I hope it does not get closed because I have this curiosity since 25 years and I would love to understand the trick. In the commodore 64 the border was not addressable by the 6569 VIC. All you could do was to draw pixels in the central area, the one where the cursor moved. The border was always uniform, although you could change its color with poke 53280,color if i remember correctly. Nevertheless I clearly remember games intros where the border was featured with graphics, like it was fully addressable. I tried to understand how it worked but never got to the point. legends say it was a clever use of sprites, which could, under some circumstances, be drawn on the border, but I don't know if it's an urban legend. edit: just read this from one of the provided links Sprites were multiplexed across vertical raster lines (over 8 sprites, sometimes up to 120 sprites). Until the Group Crest released Krestage 3 in May 2007 there was the common perception that no more than 8 sprites could appear at one raster line, but assigning new Y coordinates made it reappear further down the screen. This is evil.... you beat the raster and reposition the sprite before it gets there...

  • OpenLayers eraseFeatures doesn't erase features from map screen.

    - by Jenny
I'm using OpenLayers, and have a layer for my Map, and a single Vector Layer. In this vector layer, I am using the DrawFeature control to draw a square. I have a listener waiting for a feature to be added, and then deleting any existing features (I only want one square at a time), like so: polygonLayer.events.register("beforefeatureadded", feature, function(evt){ console.log("Clearing existing polygons"); console.log(polygonLayer.features.length); polygonLayer.destroyFeatures(); polygonLayer.redraw(); });//end attempt at events registration When I check my layer.features.size, I can see that it's always 1, just like I expect, but the squares on the screen are still displayed. Even when I call .redraw() on the layer, the squares are still there. Is there some extra step I'm missing? Edit: You can find my code here: http://pastie.org/909644 Edit: Just realized: If I draw a square from previously existing coordinates, I can clear it just fine. It seems to be just the squares drawn from the controller that are an issue?

  • I'm storing click coordinates in my db and then reloading them later and showing them on the site wh

    - by trainbolt
That's it basically. Storing the click coordinates is obviously the simple step, but once I have them if the user comes back and their window is smaller or larger the coordinates are wrong. Am I going about this in the wrong way, should I also store an element id/dom reference or something of that nature. Also, this script will be run over many different websites with more than one layout. Is there a way to do this where the layout is independent of how the coordinates are stored? Thanks.

  • Enable iPhone accelerometer while screen is locked..

    - by kamziro
So apparently it is possible to keep the processor going processing stuff while the screen is locked, as indicated here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1551712/running-iphone-apps-while-in-sleep-mode However, after testing with the example code, UIAccelerometer will just stop giving value as soon as the device is locked pronto. Is there a way to force otherwise?

  • PhoneGap iPad lauch screen does not fit

    - by powtac
Hi, I created an App which is compatible to iPhone and iPad. Because it is based on HTML (PhoneGap) the App itself is the same for both devices (HTML scales well!). But the launch screen image does not fill out the display on the iPad upon launch. In my Ressorces folder there is only the iPhone launch image which is to small for the iPad, how can I add an other one for the iPad?

  • Java mouse motion anywhere on screen

    - by Dave
I'm sure this is possible but all my searching is coming up blank. In Java is it possible to register for a mouse motion event outside of a Java app? So if the mouse pointer moves anywhere on the screen I get a call back. An approximation is possible with polling MouseInfo.getPointerInfo but there must be a better way. Thanks

  • Write STDOUT & STDERR to a logfile, also write STDERR to screen

    - by Stefan Lasiewski
I would like to run several commands, and capture all output to a logfile. I also want to print any errors to the screen (or optionally mail the output to someone). Here's an example. The following command will run three commands, and will write all output (STDOUT and STDERR) into a single logfile. { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } > logfile.log 2>&1 Here is what I want to do with the output of these commands: STDERR and STDOUT for all commands goes to a logfile, in case I need it later--- I usually won't look in here unless there are problems. Print STDERR to the screen (or optionally, pipe to /bin/mail), so that any error stands out and doesn't get ignored. It would be nice if the return codes were still usable, so that I could do some error handling. Maybe I want to send email if there was an error, like this: { command1 && command2 && command3 ; } logfile.log 2&1 || mailx -s "There was an error" [email protected] The problem I run into is that STDERR loses context during I/O redirection. A '2&1' will convert STDERR into STDOUT, and therefore I cannot view errors if I do 2 error.log Here are a couple juicier examples. Let's pretend that I am running some familiar build commands, but I don't want the entire build to stop just because of one error so I use the '--keep-going' flag. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install ; } > build.log 2>&1 Or, here's a simple (And perhaps sloppy) build and deploy script, which will keep going in the event of an error. { ./configure && make --keep-going && make install && rsync -av --keep-going /foo devhost:/foo} > build-and-deploy.log 2>&1 I think what I want involves some sort of Bash I/O Redirection, but I can't figure this out.

  • UITableView less than full screen from code?

    - by Gerry
I have a number of views that use UITableView. (I use UIViewController and implement UITableViewDelegate and UITableViewDataSource interfaces.) I'm having trouble creating a tableview that leaves room at the top for a toolbar. How to I size and layout the Tableview so that it is less than full screen? Is this an AutoResizing mask problem? Thanks, Gerry
