• USB Mouse and Keyboard not working in Linux 4 Tegra

  I am a new person in Tegra Linux development. I have Tamontem NG Evaluation board with Tegra 3 Chip. I installed L4T sample file system from NVIDIA tegra Resources (https://developer.nvidia.com/linux-tegra) and installed the file system as described in the documentation provided in NVIDIA site. Already these was an SD card with L4T running. i dont want to change the boot loader. So I copied the boot.scr.uimg to root (/) folder and uImage to boot(/boot/) and it starts booting from the existing SD card. After that while booting, some errors occurred in some Bluetooth devices (there is no bluetooth device in the board). So I disabled Bluetooth by giving the following command sudo mv /etc/init/bluetooth.conf /etc/init/bluetooth.conf.noexec Now the problem is that mouse and keyboard are not working. So i cannot login. Even though i installed desktop, the mouse and keyboard are not working. But mouse and keyboard are enumerating. lsusb command is showing the USB mouse and keyboard. The installed file system is Ubuntu 13.04. Linux Kernel version is 3.1 What to do. Please help.Thanks in Advance.

• Adding dynamic business logic/business process checks to a system

  I'm wondering if there is a good extant pattern (language here is Python/Django but also interested on the more abstract level) for creating a business logic layer that can be created without coding. For example, suppose that a house rental should only be available during a specific time. The thing is, it would have to be flexible enough to encompass a wide variety of rules: avoiding duplicates/overlaps (to continue the example "You already have a reservation for this time/location") logic rules ("You can't rent a house to yourself", "This house is in a different place from your chosen destination") sanity tests ("You've set a rental price that's 10x the normal rate. Are you sure this is the right price?" Things like that. Before I recreate the wheel, I'm wondering if there are already methods out there for doing something like this.

  So tonight this convo happened: Intrigued, I viewed the video Lee mentions and found that its the now infamous Brent Ozar video which shows a bug in Word on the Surface RT (you can read this article which talks about the tempest in a teacup that ensued). But Lee is correct – in the video, when Brent starts up Word 2013, we see this: That sure does look like a desktop doesn’t it! But…aren’t Windows RT devices *not* supposed to come with a desktop? Actually, it does. However, it’s not a *full* desktop. From Seth Rosenblatt’s fantastic Windows RT FAQ article: Windows RT will have a Desktop mode, but it will be restricted to pre-installed, Microsoft-produced software. This will include touch-optimized versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote as the new Microsoft Office So yes, there’s a desktop mode in Windows RT but no, you won’t be able to install apps to it. • How to re-configure graphics from Intel integrated to Intel / ATI switchable?

  There are lots of 'how to get switchable graphics to work' guides but I found none on how to configure a system for switchable graphics operation on Ubuntu from the ground up, nor explaining the current driver situation for particular computer models (integrated+discrete combinations). Example: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics My system being mature and on Intel integrated card also makes things complicated. System information: Ubuntu 12.04 amd64, installed clean with system configured to use only the integrated Intel card Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Intel GMA 4500MHD / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Current situation: Mature and up-to-date system with no configuration changes to what's given above. I've made a backup image of the system (Clonezilla) so regardless of what's written below let's assume it's our starting point. If something in What I have already tried is not clear you may as well diregard it. What I have already tried: Configuring BIOS to switchable graphics and: Installing Additional Hardware drivers - returned an error. Installing proprietary amd-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.run automatically - system starts to 'low-graphics mode'. Tried fixing as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6.2C_special_case_for_Intel.2BAC8-ATI_hybrid_graphics Got lost, gave up. Please note that while configuring BIOS for integrated graphics only is pretty straightforward, configuring for switchable graphics is not.

• Multithreading in Windows Phone 7 emulator: A bug

  Multithreading is supported in Windows Phone 7 Silverlight applications, however the emulator has a bug (which I discovered and was confirmed to me by the dev lead of the emulator team): If you attempt to start a background thread in the MainPage constructor, the thread never starts. The reason is a problem with the emulator UI thread which doesn’t leave any time to the background thread to start. Thankfully there is a workaround (see code below). • Inevitable Corporate Bureaucracy

  Top executives of most smaller organizations want their companies to be different from the larger corporations. They want their organizations smaller in size; but bigger in productivity by eliminating red tapes and corporate bureaucracy. When the company is smaller, people often work like firefighters – taking on new business and technology challenges without thinking about any procedures and guidelines. People also tend to wear many hats to accomplish tasks quickly in order to integrate new businesses. For example, software developers in smaller organizations may take on responsibilities of client interactions, requirements gathering, design and development, code deployment, production support, network infrastructure support, database design and maintenance along with countless other duties. In addition, systems in smaller organizations tend to be loosely guarded. So, people often don't follow many procedures in order to setup environments and implement technical projects. It's not uncommon to change code and deploy without anyone realizing. Similarly, business requirements may also get defined in an informal manner without any type of documentation. As the company grows, everything starts to change significantly impacting people and the overall business process. Suddenly, following procedures become extremely important. Consequently, new roles, guidelines and procedures start to emerge. Everything from business process to technology implementation start to become more and more process oriented. Organizations start to define and document steps, invent procedure to track process and systems level changes, and start restricting access to various systems for security reasons. At the same time, as a growing company start doing businesses with larger clienteles, they are automatically forced to abide by all sorts of industry compliance laws. Moreover, growing companies tend to recruit experienced individuals to fill new roles who usually bring their expertise from larger and more bureaucratic organizations.   Despite the best efforts from the top executives, it seems increased number of procedures and guidelines as well as new recruits automatically contribute to the evolution of corporate bureaucracy. Maybe, corporate bureaucracy is an inevitable side effect of a growing organization.

• What steps should I follow to start developing website applications?

  Hello, I've been developing desktop applications for about 4 years, using .NET, C++, C, and a little of Python. I've covered lots of topics while developing my applications, and even web technologies (cookies, GET/POST methods, when programming some scrapers/crawlers). I've been always waiting to start developing websites, preferably using PHP + MySQL, although other advises will be welcomed to make this question more useful and generic for others. I know I could use a CMS instead of starting from scratch, but sometimes I don't need an entire CMS to do minor things... What steps should I follow to create a website? Let's suppose I have a web designer. First of all, the designer designs the entire website (CSS, etc) and then I do the programming stuffs, like loading dynamically things from databases, doing some client-side stuffs with javascript, etc? Or how is the best way to do it? Edit: I'm not looking for tools/frameworks/languages suggestions. What I want to know is how a team (or a developer with a designer) starts creating a website. The steps they do, what tasks they do first, how they integrate the work, etc. An example of an answer could be: 1) Design the entire website with good CSS practices, using containers instead of tables in some cases, etc. 2) Use that design and develop the logic or the functionalities of the website. Of course, that's just an example. I'm looking for a good way to approach it, because I've been wanting to start on it but don't really know how exactly to organize the job :/

Now I want to set https for some of the section of my site(e.g URI starts with /events/) while wanting rest of all urls on http.I am setting rules in .htaccess file but not getting output as expected. • Impossible installing Ubuntu 13.04 in UEFI mode with Windows 8 preinstalled

  I know this is a dejavu but let me please explain my problem. When booting 13.04 installation media EFI mode get to a black screen with Grub version 2.00-l3ubuntu3 version appears after selecting "install" or "try Ubuntu", there appear error messages: - failure reading sector ... from 'cd0' - you need to load the kernel first I have a Dell Vostro 3560 with Windows 8. I have downloaded and burned ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64.iso. Hashes checked. I've booted from the dvd with Secure Boot enabled. The same happens when Secure Boot is disable. When booting with Legacy BIOS, installation starts. I tried Ubuntu without installing and looks OK. BUT, I did not follow the installation because in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI#Converting_Ubuntu_into_EFI_mode there appears "if the other systems (Windows Vista/7/8, GNU/Linux...) of your computer are installed in EFI mode, then you must install Ubuntu in EFI mode too.", which is the case in my computer. I have read many similar questions and the corresponding answers from people in this forum, but till now I haven't found a solution. Could someone help me on this subject? Thanks in advance!

• Can Foswiki be used as a distributed Redmine replacement? [closed]

  I am quite familiar with and love using git, among other reasons due to its distributed nature. Now I'd like to set up some similarly distributed (FOSS) Project Management software with features similar to what Redmine offers, such as Issue & time tracking, milestones Gantt charts, calendar git integration, maybe some automatic linking of commits and issues Wiki (preferably with Mathjax support) Forum, news, notifications Multiple Projects However, I am looking for a solution that does not require a permanently accesible server, i.e. like in git, each user should have their own copy which can be easily synchronized with others. However it should be possible to not have a copy of every Project on every machine. Since trac uses multiple instances for multiple projects anyway, I was considering using that, but I neither know how well it adapts to simply giting the database itself (which would be be easiest way to handle the distribution due to git being used anyway), nor does it include all of Redmine's feature. After checking http://www.wikimatrix.org for Wikis with integrated tracking system and RCS support, and filtering out seemingly stale project, the choices basically boil down to Foswiki, TWiki and Ikiwiki. The latter doesn't seem to offer as many usability features, and in the TWiki vs Foswiki issue I tend to the latter. Finally, there is Fossil, which starts from the other end by attempting to replace git entirely and tracking itself. I am however not too comfortable with the thought of replacing git, and Fossil's non-SCM features don't seem to be as developed. Now before I invest too much time when someone else might already have tried this, I basically have two questions: Are there crucial features of Project Management software like Redmine that Foswiki does not provide even with all the extensions available? How to set Foswiki up to use git instead of the perl RcsLite?

Think about trying to identify your weakest link in the a chain that starts with an external USB hard drive (or a flash drive) that's connected to a 802.11g wifi router, can you quickly come up with an answer of where's the bottle neck in that chain , is it the router or the storage devices ? . Well, the following chart should give you an idea understanding different devices, protocols and interfaces maximum throughput speeds. Though these numbers can fluctuate (mostly for worse, but sometimes for the better) due to different kind of factors such as OS overhead (or caching and optimization) , multiple users or processes and so on , the chart can still serve to provide basic information on the theoretical throughput different devices and protocols can get to..   Theres a new problem with nautilus-dropbox and is the worst for a service like Dropbox: stopped syncing and their tech support don't believe their users. The problem is: start dropbox it downloads index creates folders start to download files stop downloading files or the speed is like 0.3k/seg even deleting everything doesn't work, even syncing a single folder with a few files, not even configuring a different limit speed or let all your bandwith, nothing works for me and i have found many users with the same problem. it's strange, i have two computers with ubuntu 14.04 and one with windows 7, and in one of the linux machines it works fine, but not in the other one. Both of them are x64. The answers from the tech support starts with "delete everything and reinstall" to "you may be blocking port 443", yeah, sure (and if i do that half of internet dissapears, idiot), but nothing works. Someone has some idea? i cant find any log file (at least a text log file like in /var/log) to understand what is dropbox doing and what is not working. • Why does modx-based site start using different domains for some content?

  situation I have a modx site on a VPS with multiple domain and subdomain names. The modx site should use what I call the 'primary' domain name's 'primary' subdomain, ie www.intendedname.tld . The problem is that as time pass, the site mysteriously starts using another subdomain for links to content like videos, images, and even pages and (internal) links. The other subdomains doesn't serve this content of course. If I clear the modx cache, the original state is restored. However, the problem comes back again later. The VPS has a domain registered and multiple A records pointing to the VPS's IP, as subdomains. There is the 'primary' whan which is intended to be used as the public content server, the other ones are like docs. and test., etc. On top of that, I have dynamic-dns service client installed from no-ip on the machine and a dynamic domain-name bound. It gives a completely different domain name. I originally used it for ssh login and to serve a completely different site. An nginx server is put into good use to do rewrite the different subdomains to the right places. edit The modx templates use Templates use <base href="[[++site_url]]" />. current attempt to fix The current 'solution' to the problem is to also use the rewrite to rewrite everything to the 'primary' domain and subdomain. In the nginx config file for the site, it utilizes (unsurprisingly) the rewrite directive to rewrite the unexpected server_name entries (ie. the other subdomains) in a server block dedicated to this task. So with this, the main site basically works (sort of) but this renders all the other functions (docs) useless. Before this rewrite was set, the 'solution' was to clear the modx cache on a regular basis. The original modx content is not getting corrupted, only the files in cache are. What can I do to find out what actual the problem is and fix it?

• Wolfram is out, any alternatives? Or how to go custom?

  We were originally planning on using wolfram alpha api for a new project but unfortunately the cost was entirely way to high for what we were using it for. Essentially what we were doing is calculating the nutrition facts for food. (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=chicken+breast+with+broccoli). Before taking the step of trying to build something that may work in its place for this use case is there any open source code anywhere that can do this kind of analysis and compile the data? The hardest part in my opinion is what it has for assumptions and where it gets that data to power the calculations. Or another way to put it is, I cannot seem to wrap my head around building something that computes user input to return facts and knowledge. I know if I can convert the user input into some standardized form I can then compare that to a nutrition fact database to pull in the information I need. Does anyone know of any solutions to re-create this or APIs that can provide this kind of analysis? Thanks for any advice. I am trying to figure out if this project is dead in the water before it even starts. This kind of programming is well beyond me so I can only hope for an API, open source, or some kind of analysis engine to interpret user input when I know what kind of data they are entering (measurements and food).

• Facebook and flash - why doesn't facebook recognise that I have flash installed?

  For some reason when I try to upload photos to facebook from the website, it tells me I need to upgrade my flash player: I definitely have flash installed, as can be seen in the picture, and working fine in youtube etc. My question is two-fold: 1) Does anyone know if this a problem with the version of flash I'm running, Ubuntu, or facebook itself? I get the same problem in Chrome and Firefox, so I know it's not the browser. 2) Is there a workaround or fix for this? As far as I can tell I'm running the very latest flash (on 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10) - but maybe that's the problem? Note: Before everyone starts jumping up and down about using Shotwell or Digikam or some such to upload photos to facebook, I know about these (and do use Shotwell at times). Unfortunately Shotwell only lets you upload to a Profile, but doesn't (as far as I can tell) let you upload to a facebook Page of which I am an administrator, so I am forced do it through the website. Using the simple uploader as seen in the first picture is horribly slow and tedious, and often times out while uploading. Of course if anyone knows of any alternate ways to upload to facebook pages I'd love to hear 'em!

• Start Debugging in Visual Studio

  Every developer is familiar with hitting F5 and debugging their application, which starts their app with the Visual Studio debugger attached from the start (instead of attaching later). This is one way to achieve step 1 of the Live Debugging process. Hitting F5, F11, Ctrl+F10 and the other ways to start the process under the debugger is covered in this MSDN "How To". The way you configure the debugging experience, before you hit F5, is by selecting the "Project" and then the "Properties" menu (Alt+F7 on my keyboard bindings). Dependent on your project type there are different options, but if you browse to the Debug (or Debugging) node in the properties page you'll have a way to select local or remote machine debugging, what debug engines to use, command line arguments to use during debugging etc. Currently the .NET and C++ project systems are different, but one would hope that one day they would be unified to use the same mechanism and UI (I don't work on that product team so I have no knowledge of whether that is a goal or if it will ever happen). Personally I like the C++ one better, here is what it looks like (and it is described on this MSDN page): If you were following along in the "Attach to Process" blog post, the equivalent to the "Select Code Type" dialog is the "Debugger Type" dropdown: that is how you change the debug engine. Some of the debugger properties options appear on the standard toolbar in VS. With Visual Studio 11, the Debug Type option has been added to the toolbar If you don't see that in your installation, customize the toolbar to show it - VS 11 tends to be conservative in what you see by default, especially for the non-C++ Visual Studio profiles. • Lexmark X5650 doesn't print (scanning works)

  I want to use a Lexmark X5650 under Ubuntu. When I connect it via USB, Ubuntu recognizes the device, but can't find a driver. On the Lexmark support site, you can select "Unix/Linux" and then "Ubuntu 9.04", "9.10", "10.04" and "10.10". However, all versions lead to the same driver: lexmark-08z-series-driver-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh.tar.gz (Last updated: 2012-04-13). While installing this driver, the installer asks me to connect the device. As soon as I connect it via USB, Ubuntu now adds the printer automatically. So after the installation completed, I had 2 printers set up. But I can't print anything (I tried it with both printer configurations). Scanning works fine, though. So I guess the driver installation and the device connection are successful. When I try to print something, the print job is listed in the printing queue, but nothing happens. After some time, I get an error message which starts a debug wizard, but in the end it reads something like "Sorry, couldn't find the reason". I had several different error messages (unfortunately, I didn't record them), one was approximately like "printer cannot communicate with computer". Another said that my color ink was low (which is true, but black is full). Another said there was an input/output error. I tried it with Ubuntu 11.10. Because I read that some people had success with 10.04., I installed it in QEMU and installed the driver there, too. Same problem, though. I'd like to upgrade to 12.04, if it should work there for any reason, but I read that for some people this printer stopped working in 12.04 :/ So, it would be best if the printer would work in 12.04. If that's not possible, I'd be fine with starting a QEMU virtual machine with any GNU/Linux distribution that works with my printer.

• Ethernet card not detected on Ubuntu Server 12.04

  My onboard ethernet isn't detected after a re-install of Server 12.04. For reasons I won't get into here, I had to put the server's drive into another machine to install Ubuntu, then swap back into the server. So the server starts up fine, except for the "Waiting for network configuration". I read in another article that Server, by default, doesn't handle new mac addresses for hardware changes dynamically, unlike Ubuntu Desktop, but a look at /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules shows only one ethernet interface. Shouldn't it show both the old, and the new? lspci -vv shows an ethernet interface, so what the heck is going on? I should mention that the onboard LAN is enabled in the BIOS. And I know this isn't important, but all this started when I changed some network configuration settings in webmin before the re-install. It couldn't download any updates, so I tinkered a little. Broke, it, installed FreeNAS, which worked, but I didn't like it, then went back to Ubuntu Server, and now I'm in this pickle. Thanks for any advice!
