  I'd like to duplicate the find feature (Ctrl-F in Firefox) for my users. In other words, a text box that as the user types, it finds the first occurrence of that text, and if they press "Next", it highlights the next occurrence and moves the page if necessary. I'm thinking the search input would have to be in a div that remained fixed, and as it found what it was looking for, would insert a named anchor just before it and then follow the hyperlink. Do you think this can be done?

  I need to take a url, "/ServiceSearch/r.php?n=blahblah", and have it go to "/search/blahblah/" so that it appears in the browser as "/search/blahblah", but I actually want it to REALLY be going to "r.php?n=ServiceSearch&n=blahblah".. So I was thinking I'll need to rewrite the first URL to "/ServiceSearch/r.php?n=blahblah" and then the second url, "/search/blahblah/", to the third, "r.php?n=ServiceSearch&n=blahblah". Well, I know this is wrong, but it's my best guess. I'm really struggling with it.

• Git/SVN for asp.net development instead of VSS?

  At work, we are using ASP.net 2.0 and VSS. VSS is a beast, we are continually having issues with people checking out files and there is no branching - makes it crazy. I know SVN/GIT is mainly used by open source developers, are there any downsides to ASP.NET developers using it? I have been pushing for SVN internally, but am thinking GIT might also be a great option. Our team is spread across 3 continents.

  I'm thinking of a web app that uses CouchDB extensively, to the point where there would be great gains from serving with the native erlang HTTP API as much as possible. Can you configure Apache as a reverse proxy to allow outside GETs to be proxied directly to CouchDB, whereas PUT/POST are sent to the application internal logic (for sanitation, authentication...)? Or is this unwise -- the CouchDB built-in authentication options just seem a little weak for a Web App. Thanks

  I understand that this is highly specific to the concrete application, but I'm just wondering what's the general opinion, or at least some personal experiences on the issue. I have an aversion towards the 'open session in view' pattern, so to avoid it, I'm thinking about simply fetching everything small eagerly, and using queries in the service layer to fetch larger stuff. Has anyone used this and regretted it? And is there maybe some elegant solution to lazy loading in the view layer that I'm not aware of?

The best solution I have for this is to create three database tables as follows: UserTable user_id user_name UserGroupLink group_id member_id GroupInfo group_id group_name This method keeps the member and group information separate. This is just my way of thinking. Is there a better way to do this? Also, what is a good naming convention for tables that link two other tables?

• In MS Access form, how to color background of selected record?

  I have a somewhat complicated looking Access Form with a continuous display (meaning multiple records are shown at once). I'd like to change the background color of the selected record only so the end-user can easily tell which record they are on. I'm thinking of perhaps a conditional format or maybe something like this: Private Sub Detail_HasFocus() Detail.BackColor(me.color)=vbBlue End Sub and something similar for when that row loses focus.   I have an array of CGPoints, and I'd like to fill the whole screen with colours, the colour of each pixel depending on the total distance to each of the points in the array. The natural way to do this is to, for each pixel, compute the total distance, and turn that into a colour. Questions follow: 1) How can I colour a single pixel in Quartz? I've been thinking of making 1 by 1 rectangles. 2) Are there better, more efficient ways to achieve this effect?

  I was thinking of formatting it like this TYYYYMMDDNNNNNNNNNNX (1 character + 19 digits) Where T is type YYYY is year MM is month DD is day N is sequencial number X is check digit The problem is, how do I generate the sequencial number? since my primary key is not an auto increment integer value, if it was i would use that, but its not. EDIT can I have the sequencial number resets itself after 1 day (24hours).   I'm currently running a query like this: SELECT * FROM email WHERE email_address LIKE 'ajones@%' OR email_address LIKE 'bsmith@%' OR email_address LIKE 'cjohnson@%' The large number of OR's bothers me. Is there a way to condense this up with something akin to an IN operator, e.g.: SELECT * FROM email WHERE email_address LIKE ('ajones@%', 'bsmith@%', 'cjohnson@%') Or is this just wishful thinking?
