  • Buy or build tool for Data Reporting ?

    We have been asked to provide a data reporting solution. The followng are the requirements: i. The client has a lot of data which is generated everyday as an outcome of the tests they run. These tests are run at several sites and they get automatically backed up into a central server. ii. They already have perl scripts which post process them and generates excel based reports. iii. They need a web based interface for comparing those reports and they need to mark and track issues which might be present in those data. I am confused if we should build our own tool for this or we should go for already exiting tool(any suggestions?). Can you please provide supportive arguments for the decision that you would suggest?

  • File synck tool with network support (FTP or SSH) and decent GUI

    Is there a decent GUI tool for Windows that allows to publish files from/to a remote FTP (or SFTP) server with the same ease of use that WinMerge offers in local discs? I'll basically use it to upload changes to web sites. I've tried like a dozen tools and they're all terrible. They have difficult interfaces, you need to spend ten minutes configuring absurdly complicate project settings, there's no simple way to ignore specific files or they use custom databases that break when someone else uploads files—not to mention deployment frameworks that force you to script everything in their custom language. I don't need or even want to schedule or automate. I want a manual process I can review. I'm tired of picking files one by one in Filezilla while reading the Subversion logs. I'd love an open source tool but...

  • .Net/C# Build Tool - Is NAnt a preferred tool?

    I'm about to set up an automatic build of a .net/C# project. I've searched the net quite a bit, and there are a lot of references to this tool called 'NAnt'. My questions are: Is NAnt considered a good tool for this, is it still used? Are there other toos that are the de facto standard for such a task? From the information on the projects's sourceforge page, it doesn't seem to have been much development going on the lates years. The same applies to the NAntContrib project. Thanks!

    Is there a tool to see the message sent to webservice hosted on an IIS server? I have a webservice written in .Net and our ColdFusion people are having trouble building a "complex" parameter. This problem is described from a ColdFusion perspective at: adobe forum question It runs when called from a .net client. While hosted on a server inside our LAN, I put it out on a public server so the WSDL could be viewed: please take a quick look at this WSDL here When the CF developer runs her code, she gets: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch ...and I am wondering if there is a tool I could run on the server that hosts my webservice to see if it is even entering the WS or is being rejected by Java code that CF uses and is not really even getting to my webservice.

  • C++ coverage tool that WORKS?!

    Been searching for a good coverage tool for a while now. I'm with VC++ 2008. Tried already: NCover, PureCoverage, PartCover and a few others I can't remember their names. None works! Not even with a very basic console application that does almost nothing. Tried to get an evaluation copy from BullsEye and few more others - not only that they require you to ask for it (no automatic process), they don't even answer after you request AND after you ask what's going on, through the support mail. So the question is: Is there any tool, which I can immediately download an evaluation for it, that actually works on VC 2008 projects? Something that will get me going within 10 minutes? It's funny but it seems to be a very non-trivial request in the area of this kind of software.

    Problem I'm currently stuck trying to figure out what "iPhone OS Deployment Target" setting to use. I do not want to write conditional code right now, so I'd like the lowest version that runs my application fine. At first I thought it would be 2.0 as I wasn't using any 3.0 features, but then i realized that AVAudioRecorder is a 3.0 API. I don't want to be manually checking EVERY function I use in the documentation. Question Is there a tool that will check the OS availability of each functions you call in your code to figure out what the Deployment Target should be? That tool could be a good old compiler, but the latest version of the iPhone SDK does not come with the PRE-3.0 SDKs.

    I am trying to install ANewStart GNOME shell themes on Ubuntu 11.10. I have installed gnome shell extension for themes: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme I got the instructions from here ANewStart GNOME Shell Theme + AwOken Icons Theme = Pure Art. But when I go to "Advanced Settings - Shell Extensions" its empty... There is nothing. Also there is a orange triangle sign next to Shell Theme drop down in Advanced Settings - Theme.     What I want: A blog. I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this.     I am migrating from a vps based hosting to a dedicated hosting (8GB RAM/1TB HD). I need to run multiple Drupal and Ruby based applications? what would be the recommended configuration. I was thinking of two options. 1) Install multiple Debian os on top of Xen (like VPS). Each may be 2GB Memory and run Drupal and Ruby and MYSQL on separate partitions . 2) Install one instance of Debian. and Install Drupal (Apache, php) Ruby (lighttpd, ruby) ,MySQL all in the same partition I was little worried that option 2 could lead to some performance issues later..

  • can't listen to tips on bill Jelen podcast disc

    Hi all, appreciate any suggestions you can offer. Am using windows 7-64 bit--have the bill Jelen disc with his podcasts on it. Can open the disc, select the podcast I want to listen to -it shows up on my screen but there seems to be no place to click to have the podcast acutally start running. Have used this disc before with xp and windows-not 64- and had no problem- would just click on the podcast and it would start to play. Would try on my other computer that it worked on but that computer is dead. Any ideas?? thanks

    I've been looking through some of the tools available for measuring network throughput, namely iperf, bwping, ttcp, etc. I am planning on doing throughput tests over a long period of time, so what I really need is good graphing output, preferably rrd graphs. The Jperf frontend for iperf will generate a graph, and bmon has a nice command-line graph, but these simply count seconds since the test was started. I am trying to measure trends in throughput over times of the day, so a graph with times and days is necessary. So a way to get iperf to log to RRDs would be best, if this isn't possible could someone point me toward another solution?

    Is there a program that allows me to pass in a video and capture the screen at every n frames? For example maybe I want to export screenshots at 24 frames per second from point A to point B, so the program will be exporting 24 images per second. The amount of frames I would like to capture can be specified (maybe I only want 1 fps, maybe 10 fps, maybe 24, 30, 60, ..) Preferably, it would be part of a larger program that supports various video formats. At least, it should support the more common formats out there.

    Does Windows provide a command line utility that lets me check a domain user's password? It is sufficient that the utility returns success(0) if I provide a matching domain user name and password. Alternatively, is there a simple VB/JS script that can do this? I'm the Intranet admin of my company and have the default password set for corporate staff, so I'd like to quickly scan which users have not changed their default password. Better yet, are there any books or websites which cover such topics so that I can get more information?

    Does anybody know a few details about signed software and /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app? I didn't find more at Wikipedia (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Installer_%28Mac_OS_X%29) and the UNIX-Manual (man 8 installer). I have here a valid signature from iLife 11 Installer.app (http://i.imgur.com/Y3raY.jpg). Does this mean I can be 100% sure that nothing is modified? It means I can trust this PKG because signed by Apple? Or did I get something wrong?
