• WCF service errors after installing WindowsXP updates

  Greeting, today before I start working on my application I updated my WinXP. After all updates have been installed my WCF service stop working. There is a following error when I try to open service.svc file in the browser: Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. • Updating Lists of Lists in Tapestry4 using textfields and a single submit button

  In Tapestry 4 I am trying it iterate over a list of lists (technically a list of objects who have a list of strings as a data field). I am currently doing this by using 'nested' for components. (This is pseudo code) <span jwcid="Form"> <span jwcid="@For" source="ognl:Javaclass.TopLevelList" value="ognl:SecondLevelList" index="ognl:index"> <span jwcid="@For" source="ognl:SecondLevelList.List" value="ognl:ListItem" index="ListItemIndex"> <span jwcid="@TextField" value="ognl:ListItem"/> <span jwcid="@Submit" listener="ognl:listeners.onSubmit"/> </span></span></span> The onSubmit listener then accesses the index and ListItem index page properties, as well as the ListItem page property in order to correctly update the list in Javaclass.TopLevelList. This works fine, but it looks terrible, and is cumbersome to the end user. I would prefer to somehow simulate this functionality using only one submit button at the bottom of the page. I have looked into somehow using the overlying form component to obtain a list of the 'form control components' within it, and then (with great care) parsing through tapestry's naming conventions to recover the functionality of the indexes. If anyone knows how to do this, or could explain the form component (how/when it submits, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated.

• edited an .SWF, locally the changes made are okay, but when on server changes are not fully visible

  Hi, I just edited an .SWF file I have on my website home page for a while now. I update the SWF frequently with new pictures. It's actually a picture slideshow, consisting out of 6 images. I used Adobe Flash CS4 Pro to edit the file, with just swapping all the pictures (JPGS) in it for other ones. I also have some small AS where I just have the URL: on(release) { getURL("link"); } so that's nothing fancy at all. I saved and published everything (CTRL+ENTER) and the .SWF played well, and tested it in IE8 and FF. Then I uploaded the SWF to my test server, overwriting the existing SWF file. Now the problem: all pictures but one show up well. Of the 6 images, the second image is actually the old image that was in its place. I downloaded the .SWF from the testserver and inspected the SWF and guess what: the old picture wasn't in it, instead the correct image was in the SWF. Even after reloading the page hitting CTRL+F5 still the wrong image shows. FF though shows the SWF correctly. So I then opened the page on another computer using IE8 and there the SWF works well, showing the correct second image. What's wrong with my first computer's browser? It's also the computer I edited the SWF with. I DO remember like I first saved and uploaded the wrong SWF (with the old 2nd image still in it) to the testserver, and later on uploading the correct one (proper 2nd image) I think IE8 has cached the wrong SWF, and now memorized it someway not willing to see that the file has actually been changed, but what to do so IE8 starts showing the correct SWF??

  Hi; I am trying to update a UIView subclass to draw individual pixels (rectangles) after calculating if they are in the mandelbrot set.   Greetings. I'm working on a windows forms application that interacts with a previously created SQL database. Specifically, I'm working on implementing an "UPDATE" query. for (int i = 0; i < dataGridView1.RowCount; i++) { string firstName = (string)dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[0].Value; string lastName = (string)dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[1].Value; string phoneNo = (string)dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[2].Value; short idVal = (short)dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[3].Value; this.contactInfoTableAdapter.UpdateQuery(firstName, lastName, phoneNo, idVal); } The dataGridView has 4 columns, First Name, Last Name, Phone Number, and ID (which was created as an identity column when I initially formed the table in SQL). When I try to run this code, the three strings are returned properly, but dataGridView1.Rows[i].Cells[3].Value is returning "null". I'm guessing this is because it was created as an identity column rather than a normal column. What's a better way to retrieve the relevant ID value for my UpdateQuery?

  I'm new to Ubuntu, I installed it but when I try to start it, tells me that I need to run commands from bash-like and they can be shown by tab, when I press tab shows me the commands but then I type them and nothing happens, I have to reset my computer and the same thing goes on. This is what it says: GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. And nothing happens from there, can you tell what I need to do now? THANKS AGAIN!

  Hello Experts!!! I've been facing a deployment problem.I've built a WPF application with visual studio 2008 and created an installer(msi) which works fine.But then it's pain to add automatic update to it. i've seen this article at windowsclient.net but it seems to be pretty old but could have been the perfect thing for me.Then i looked at the .Net Application updater block v2.0 which uses enterprise library june 2005 and for some reason it's not installing on my machine. I thought i will need to use a more recent Enterprise library so i installed and compiled Enterprise 4.1(october 2008) but nothing better happened.To i decided to give a try to CLickonce deployment.After struggling with it, it was almost perfect.I realized that when i was testing the updates provided by the clickonce on my machine which is XP i didn't notice the need of having sqlite dll in the GAC. surely it was already there.I noticed it when i moved to vista that there is a problem.After checking the net i know it's impossible to add a dll to the Global Assembly Cache. Now i'm stuck, i think i've hit a wall.Can any one share some of his experience? I'm willing to try the updater block if i can get help. Thanks for reading this!!

  In a previous question, I was looking for an alternative to modifying how "no date" was being stored in the date attribute of my NSManagedObject subclass. Previously, I had assigned nil to that attribute when a user didn't assign a date. In order to address sorting issues when using NSFetchedResultsController, I have decided to assign [NSDate distantFuture] to the date attribute when a user doesn't assign a date. However, given that this app is already in the wild, I need to update the Core Data store such that any existing nil date values are changed to [NSDate distantFuture]. What is the best way to make this change? The first thing that comes to mind is to iterate through all of the objects in the store in an array and change any nil values that are found. This could be limited to a one-time event by checking against a user defaults key that indicates whether this upgrade has been performed. Is there a way that I can do this with Core Data versioning instead? Or another method that doesn't involve me writing throw-away code?

  I have dell inspiron, previously I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Windows 7 and made it dual boot. But since I want to upgrade my Ubuntu version and change the partition spacing, I deleted 11.10 partition directly and extended my hardrive space (Windows + Ubuntu) at that moment everything was fine. Then I prepared a 12.04 32bit USB and installed it . It was installed but isn't showing dual boot option like 11.10 and my machine directly boot into Windows 7. So instantly i again deleted my 12.04 partition . Now I login into Windows 7 but whenever I put USB ( with 12.04 ) to boot from it, I am facing error of "no such partition grub rescue" even though I try to put lower version(11.04) it showing another error "Error: No default or UI configuration directive found boot " I have reinstall Windows 7 and reformat all partition, still I am facing same error :(

Now I want to replace my Windows XP with Ubuntu 11. Earlier after installing XP on my system it failed to boot in Windows 7, which I restored easily using EasyBCD. If I install Ubuntu 11 will I be able to boot my Windows 7 also? Will grub overwrite the EasyBCD entry for XP?

• Deleted entire harddisk. Now my laptop won't boot anything and stuck at grub rescue!

  My laptop is Dell Inspiron N4030. I used to use Ubuntu 12.04 and it was on the entire hard drive. I tried to install windows 7 but my laptop couldn't install it. So, I decided to delete the entire hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. But after deletion I immediately removed the gparted live usb which I was using to delete the partitions of my hard drive. And then tried booting from windows 7 cd, didn't work, tried ubuntu live cd, didn't work, tried hiren's boot cd, didn't work, tried super grub disk, didn't work. Probably I'm not doing it right. Help needed badly.

  I'm developing an application that will be available from a website (market probably as well). The problem I'm having at the moment is how to handle the updates to the app. I know how to check the version against the current one and I know if I need to update it. Question is...how? Is there a way I can download an APK from the website and start the install process? The user will have to confirm of course, but I just want to be able to start it for him.   I am writing a genetic algorithm that approximates an image with a polygon. While going through the different generations, I'd like to output the progress to a JFrame. However, it seems like the JFrame waits until the GA's while loop finishes to display something. I don't believe it's a problem like repainting, since it eventually does display everything once the while loop exits. I want to GUI to update dynamically even when the while loop is running.   I am currently working on a document that was written using Microsoft Word 2007 and I am also using Microsoft Word 2007 to update the document. It is just the way of the workplace I am now in. I have noticed that the feature of adding nested headers ("subheaders" perhaps) does not work the same as I remember it did with Microsoft Word 2010. Since I am not the original author of the document, I am not sure if the table of contents was set up the right way. So my first question is: How do I see if the table of contents was set up properly in Microsoft Word 2007 to allow automatic updates whenever a subheader is added to the text. There seems to be a number of other things going on with the document that do not seem right. But maybe if we fix this problem first the other issues will dissolve or be lessened.

• Can't update BIOS on Dell E6530

  I have a problem with the video output on my E6530. It does not show anything during POST on my external screens. As it seems this is related to A09 BIOS which is currently installed. I wanted to upgrade to A11 BIOS and downloaded the installer from the Dell Website. The installer launches correctly and displays the current version, the update versions and reboots the system afterwards. Bit the BIOS version remains A09. • Tokyo Tyrant ulog / update log management.

  I'm testing Tokyo Tyrant in a master-master setup and have found the ulog grows out of control and locks up the disk. At first I found the -ulim option useful and limited the logfile size, however it simply rolls over to a new log, leaving the old ones to clutter up the partition. I suppose I'll write a shell script that will delete ulogs older than X, once I find out how far back Tokyo Tyrant needs in the update log in order to failover. Does anyone have any experience with this Tokyo Tyrant? Do you have a feel (acknowledging that every install is different based on what is being stored) for the optimal ulog size vs how far back a Tokyo Tyrant instance needs to look in the ulog to assume master status?   We are moving a production site to EC2/RDS Followed these instructions: http://geehwan.posterous.com/moving-a-production-mysql-database-to-amazon I have set up row-based binary logging on the production server did a: mysqldump --single-transaction --master-data=2 -C -q -u root -p backup.sql then imported to RDS instance. No dramas. Due to the size of the db, and minimal downtime requirements, I've got to update the ec2 db to the latest datas via the binlogs, and it won't let me. mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000004 --start-position=360812488 | mysql -uroot -p -h and it says: ERROR 1227 (42000) at line 6: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation My guess, based on what is on line 6 of the binlog, is that it's the 'write to the BINLOG' statements in the SQL backup, and because RDS doesn't support this, it can't run these statements, or something, I don't really know. Please help.

  The joys of a Samba domain... First off Domain Group policy can't be used until Samba 4 arrives. We need to setup Software Restriction Policies (SRPs) on most of the computers in our Samba domain and I would dearly like to automate this. (We are moving away from just disabling the Windows installer). The traditional way is to set SRPs using Local Group Policy (LGP) Computer Conf-Windows Settings-SRP but this involves visiting every machine as it can't be set using in NTConfig.pol. It is possible to attempt to create the SRPs directly in the registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\CodeIdentifiers\262144\Paths\{30628f61-eb47-4d87-823b-6683a09eda87}] "LastModified"=hex(b):40,a2,94,09,b5,5d,ca,01 "Description"="" "SaferFlags"=dword:00000000 "ItemData"="C:\\location\\subfolder" SaferFlags DWORD seems to be what turns it on or off, but although this seems to work it does not update the Local Group Policy - SRPs still show as "No SRPs Defined". Where does the LGP store this setting - is it even in the registry and more importantly - Is there a cleverer way of setting up SRPs?

  Hello, I am trying to install Windows Web Server 2008 x64 (have tried 32-bit, too) onto an IBM eServer 326m and am getting the following error message some time after the unpacking files section: Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed. I can repair the boot information using the Repair option in the WinPE bit of the setup, and it reboots into the Windows installation, so it has good boot data on the drive. Just to complicate things, the server does not have a DVD-ROM so I'm installing from HDD to HDD, both SATA, one an SSD. I've tried each drive in isolation, e.g. removing the SSD and installing from spindle onto itself, same error every time. Flashed IBM BIOS, too. Thanks for your help. Luke

• How can I set up multiple dynamic users to update a single network's dynamic IP

  On my home network we are allocated a dynamic IP. I want to configure ddclient (or an equivalent) to send IP updates to DNS-O-Matic/OpenDNS only when I am on my home network. I do not want to send IP updates when I'm on my office network. Can this be done? I am prepared to use different FLOSS software or a different free DNS service. Additionally, there are multiple users who may be on the home network or away on other networks. How can we configure ddclient on each machine so that whoever is on the home network updates the IP (i.e. so we don't have to rely on a particular machine being on the network to update the IP). OpenDNS support have said we can't simply install updater software on each machine.

We also bring allot of machines back to our office and run windows update on them as build image, this means that we end up downloading the same updates over and over again. Is there anyway to get a machine to download its updates from our WSUS Server? i found that theres something running on port 8530 but its just an empty document, in fact every folder listed in IIS config returns a blank document anyone know if this is possible? and how i would do it?
