  • Can't declare an abstract method private....

    I want to do this, yet I can't. Here is my scenario and rational. I have an abstract class for test cases that has an abstract method called test(). The test() method is to be defined by the subclass; it is to be implemented with logic for a certain application, such as CRMAppTestCase extends CompanyTestCase. I don't want the test() method to be invoked directly, I want the super class to call the test() method while the sub class can call a method which calls this (and does other work too, such as setting a current date-time right before the test is executed for example). Example code: public abstract class CompanyTestCase { //I wish this would compile, but it cannot be declared private private abstract void test(); public TestCaseResult performTest() { //do some work which must be done and should be invoked whenever //this method is called (it would be improper to expect the caller // to perform initialization) TestCaseResult result = new TestCaseResult(); result.setBeginTime(new Date()); long time = System.currentTimeMillis(); test(); //invoke test logic result.setDuration(System.currentTimeMillis() - time); return result; } } Then to extend this.... public class CRMAppTestCase extends CompanyTestCase { public void test() { //test logic here } } Then to call it....   • Keeping track of threads when creating them recursively

    I'm currently working on some code for my Programming Languages course. I can't post the code but I'm permitted to talk about some high level concepts that I'm struggling with and receive input on them. Basically the code is a recursive DFS on a undirected graph that I'm supposed to convert to a concurrent program. My professor already specified that I should create my threads in the recursive DFS method and then join them in another method. Basically, I'm having trouble thinking of how I should keep track of the threads I'm creating so I can join all of them in the other method. I'm thinking an array of Threads but I'm unsure how to add each new thread to the array or even if that's the right direction.

I declared my library project as Android library, use the fully-qualified name of the Activities and declare them in the AndroidManifest.xml of the new project.   • How do I get the name of the test method that was run in a testng tear down method?

    Basically I have a tear down method that I want to log to the console which test was just run. How would I go about getting that string? I can get the class name, but I want the actual method that was just executed. Class testSomething() { @AfterMethod public void tearDown() { system.out.println('The test that just ran was....' + getTestThatJustRanMethodName()'); } @Test public void testCase() { assertTrue(1==1); } } should output to the screen: "The test that just ran was.... testCase" However I don't know the magic that getTestThatJustRanMethodName should actually be.

    I'm building an entire application out of immutable objects so that multi-threading and undo become easier to implement. I'm using the Google Collections Library which provides immutable versions of Map, List, and Set. My application model looks like a tree: Scene is a top-level object that contains a reference to a root Node. Each Node can contain child Nodes and Ports. An object graph might look like this: Scene | +-- Node | +-- Node | +- Port +-- Node | +- Port +- Port If all of these objects are immutable, controlled by a top-level SceneController object: What is the best way to construct this hierarchy? How would I replace an object that is arbitrarily deep in the object tree? Is there a way to support back-links, e.g. a Node having a "parent" attribute?

  • Unit testing nested subflows (subflows of subflows)

    I'm trying to write unit test for a flow, which has subflow, which, itself, has another subflow. I register first flow using FlowDefinitionResource getResource(FlowDefinitionResourceFactory resourceFactory). Then I register subflow definitions during test execution in FlowDefinitionRegistry before transitioning to them. Transitioning to "first level" subflow goes ok. The result of transitioning to subflow of current subflow - NoSuchFlowDefinitionException. The problem is that subflow definitions are all seem attached to the primary flow of the test and subflow can't be found within another subflow. Is there any way to attach subflow definition to another subflow in tests, which extend AbstractXmlFlowExecutionTests?

    Say I want to create an array of pixel values to pass into the createBitmap method described here. I have three int values r, g, b in the range 0 - 0xff. How do I transform those into a opaque pixel p? Does the alpha channel go in the high byte or the low byte? I googled up the documentation but it only states that: Each pixel is stored on 4 bytes. Each channel (RGB and alpha for translucency) is stored with 8 bits of precision (256 possible values.) This configuration is very flexible and offers the best quality.   • Playing a .wav sound file in JPanel/JFrame using javax (Swing)

    I need some code example on how I would use a filepath from a harddrive location to then play a .wav sound file when opened in swing GUI. I don't need it to show a play button, or pause or stop. I just want it to play when I select the 'Sound' option from my 'Files' in my window (I know how to do that already, no need to explain that). So basically, just how to play a .wav sound file from a filepath (i.e. c:/cake/thereisnone.wav) inside of a JFrame. And how can I easily apply methods to that sound file afterwards. Also, if anyone knows how to apply methods on a BufferedImage in a JFrame, that would be helpful too. Thank you very much everyone!

  • if a JAR is placed on app servers's classpath how do we reference it from JSP

    On our application we are getting an error saying: PWC6117: File "/struts-tags" not found code in the file thats giving error is: <%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="/struts-tags" %> This file is in struts2-core.jar which is placed on the classpath of the app server (Sun 9.1). The code will work fine and not complain when the jar is actually in WEB-INF/lib of the application, compared to being on classpath of the appserver. But we can not change that. it has to be on appservers classpath. But how should we change our code so that this error goes away? I can create mapping in my web.xml so that tag uri's are change. but what should taglib-location be changed to? so that it references to app servers classpath? <taglib> <taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-uri> <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/struts-tags.tld</taglib-location> </taglib>

  • AJAX Problem - No response text in FireFox, but ok in IE

    Hi, I am making a simple AJAX call to an external site. It works ok in IE, but in Firefox, not response text is returned. I think it might have something to do with the response being "chunked", but I'm not sure. Any ideas?   • public (static) swap() method vs. redundant (non-static) private ones...

    I'm revisiting data structures and algorithms to refresh my knowledge and from time to time I stumble across this problem: Often, several data structures do need to swap some elements on the underlying array. So I implement the swap() method in ADT1, ADT2 as a private non-static method. The good thing is, being a private method I don't need to check on the parameters, the bad thing is redundancy. But if I put the swap() method in a helper class as a public static method, I need to check the indices every time for validity, making the swap call very unefficient when many swaps are done. So what should I do? Neglect the performance degragation, or write small but redundant code?

  • How to debug ConcurrentModificationException?

    I encountered ConcurrentModificationException and by looking at it I can't see the reason why it's happening; the area throwing the exception and all the places modifying the collection are surrounded by synchronized (this.locks.get(id)) { ... } // locks is a HashMap<String, Object>; I tried to catch the the pesky thread but all I could nail (by setting a breakpoint in the exception) is that the throwing thread owns the monitor while the other thread (there are two threads in the program) sleeps. How should I proceed? What do you usually do when you encounter similar threading issues?
