• Photo and Video backup [closed]

  Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Please move if necessary I want to back up all my photos and videos online. Some videos are HD and up to 2GB in size. Does anyone know of any good sites? Flcker and Picasca seem the obvious ones but there seem to be limits on size. I have also heard bad things about the Picasca UI. I basically want to remove most of the photos from my laptop HD and then sync with web when I want to download them. Viewing via mobile is not a big thing for me. I just want somewhere save to back up stuff. Thanks

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? What is the best mediawiki hosting provider? I want to be able to have a fairly simple, reliable wiki attached to a site's subdomain (wiki.mysite.com). I'd prefer it as a service, updates handled for me, I don't want to see any code! I imagine I'll change my dns to point to the provider and pay a few bucks a month. Nice and simple. There seem to be a few providers who offer this, what have you had success with?

  I am looking to create a job post to get a satisfactory assistant programmer / templater. Specifically, a php & web programmer. I am, however, afraid of forgetting important things. So, are there resources you can suggest for templates for things to ask and things to tell in a job post for a programmer? Surprisingly, I wasn't able to find similar questions on this site, so there may be duplicate questions out there that I could use but just didn't find. Right now I know that my -requirements- are so generic that they're going to get me in trouble with a spam of applications. e.g. the candidate must know php, must be able to seperate php from html. So I'm looking for criteria that are must-haves, must-mentions, or a general template to try to avoid a "lemon". • Ubuntu Unity (64-bit) Bugs on Nvidia dual screen [closed]

  On my work computer I have upgraded 10.04 to 10.10 and now to 11.04. Upgrades have mostly worked well and the dual screen setup is almost working. There are however a couple of annoying bugs which I tried to report but the bug reporting tool told me to ask about the bugs here. Here's what I have found: Auto-hide stops working. It doesn't seem to matter which application is maximised/covering the dock, it just stays on top. I have tested changing the autohide settings with no result. Scenario: One maximised window on each screen. If I now try to drag the window that doesn't have focus by dragging the top of the window nothing happens. I can also not give the window focus by clicking the top bar, I have to click inside the window and then I can drag the window. If I unmaximise the window with focus it does work and I can both change focus and drag the window directly by clicking the top of the maximised window. Any bug fixes coming for these issues? Any work-arounds?

I run chromium and used this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/stable I just realized that it seems to be abandoned and I'm running a quite outdated version of this browser. There have not been any updates since the first of May this year. Do you know of any PPA thats actively maintained? Based on the relation above on selecting element a from List1, List2 shows g,h. On selecting h from List2, in List1 c,d are shown in List1. On selecting d from List1 it shows i,j in List2.   We all have tasks that come up from time to time that we think we'd be better off scripting or automating than doing manually. Obviously some tools or languages are better for this than others - no-one (in their right mind) is doing a one off job of cross referencing a bunch of text lists their PM has just given them in assembler for instance. What one tool or language would you recommend for the sort of general quick and dirty jobs you get asked to do where time (rather than elegance) is of the essence? Background: I'm a former programmer, now development manager PM, looking to learn a new language for fun. If I'm going to learn something for fun I'd like it to be useful and this sort of use case is the most likely to come up.

  I operate a small company that charges $99 for a piece of software. I'd like to know what would be a fair price for non-US customers. Today I sold a license to a party in South Africa. He told me he had been watching the project for two years while business justification could be made for the purchase as SA's currency is nine times weaker than the US dollar. I am aware that many software companies charge prices in local currencies that equate to the price in US dollars. I am aware that my costs remain fixed, and I obviously I cannot discount the rate at which my time costs me. I'm OK with earning less per sale as I would rather get my software onto the desktops of those that need it rather than having them try to write it themselves. Support is light and I can usually point a user to an existing blog or forum post. Being a resident of Hawaii, I am aware that certain goods and services cost more here. Power is up to six times as much per KWH as it is in, say, Seattle, and wages are approximately 60% of what they are for my profession (programmer). I'd like to offer my software at a price that would be fair for everyone around the globe. If a currency is 2 foreign units to 1 US dollar, and goods and services cost 50% more and pay for an equivalent job is 50% of what it is here, should I charge, say, $50 instead of $99? Is there a resource which would allow me to input a price in US dollars and adjust for a list of international locations?

  Possible Duplicate: There's an issue with an Alpha/Beta Release of Ubuntu, what should I do? In my previous question I described my problem with starting / returning from suspend using Ubuntu on the Asus UX32VD (Zenbook). This problem could be solved by using Ubuntu 12.10 (alpha), however since the upgrade to beta 1 the old problem of starting / returning from suspend has returned. I found that starting in recovery does work, but this of course does not solve the problem. Any thoughts?

• What are the differences between programming languages? [closed]

  Once upon a time, I heard from someone the only difference between programming languages is the syntax I wanted to deny it - to say that there are other fundamental aspects that truly set a language apart from others than just syntax. But I couldn't... So, can you? Whenever I search Google for something like "differences between programming languages", the results tend to be debates between two specific languages (I'd like something more general) - however, some of the aspects that people seemed to debate the most were: Object-Oriented Method/Operator overloading (I actually see this rather related to syntax) Garbage-Collection (While it seems like a good difference, for some reason it doesn't seem that "fundamental") What important aspects other than syntax can you think of?

I have registered a Domain with fake info 24 hours ago (I didn't know its illegal! :() its still pending (not available yet) I'm not like, criminal or spammer but I don't want to show my real id, what do you suggest so I don't lose my Domain.   Which languages have compilers able to emit plain standard C/C++ code? For a start: Haxe // uses Boehm GC Haskell (JHC) Haskell (old GHC) // -fvia-c, removed recently (emitted code is super ugly) Clay ATS Cython RPython (Shed Skin) // experimental RPython (PyPy) Python (Nuitka) // although author claims there are no speedups Common Lisp (ECL) COBOL (OpenCobol) Scheme (Chicken) APL // So far I've not found working implementation available for free download Ur/Web // GCC-specific output, and intended to be used only for web developments (included for completeness only) I'd like to build comprehensive up-to-date list but found only these ones so far. I've tested only Haxe and it works pretty well and quite fast. What about other ones? What is your expirience? How much ugly is generated code? Update. Any language chains (e.g. X - Scheme - C) will be perfectly OK as answer if its use is practical enough and suited for production use.

  I'm writing a novel in which an evil programmer wants to include subtle errors in his code that are likely to go unnoticed by his supervisor during a code review and unlikely to be caught by a compiler, yet cause damage at possibly random times when the program is executed by an end-user. I only need a couple of examples, which may be exotic but which have to be easily explainable to non-technical readers. Procedural or object-oriented examples would be equally helpful.
