  • Installing sSMTP from SSH

    - by James
I'm on a Web Hosting Buzz reseller account. They have some very stringent mail sending rules, including blocking of authenticated SMTP socket mail sending using PEAR. It was suggested in WHB forum that this was possible with sSMTP. I've since gotten SSH access and googled how to install sSMTP from SSH: rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-3.noarch.rpm yum install ssmtp However, the first line fails with: Retrieving http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-3.noarch.rpm error: skipping http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-3.noarch.rpm - transfer failed - Unknown or unexpected error It was a very old thread in WHB forum and the thread poster could not be reached for assistance. Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Automating ftp command line application redirecting I/O in .Net

    - by SoMoS
Hello, I'm trying to automate the ftp client that Windows includes redirecting the I/O from the process. What I'm doing is starting the process from my application and trying to read what the client prints on the screen and sending my commands to it. The problem is that I can not read almost any data sent by the ftp client. Some data is present but most data is not read. That's the code I have until now. Public Sub Start() process = New Diagnostics.Process() process.StartInfo.FileName = "ftp.exe" #'' The command is on the path process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False process.Start() process.StandardInput.AutoFlush = True process.BeginOutputReadLine() End Sub #'' takes data from the stdout Private Sub process_OutputDataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Diagnostics.DataReceivedEventArgs) Handles process.OutputDataReceived #'' At this moment here there is code to show the stdout at a textbox End Sub #'' sends data to stdin Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click process.StandardInput.WriteLine(Me.TextEdit1.Text) End Sub Now when I execute this for example and send ? I just get the first line (and I should get a lot more). Or when I send the open command I should receive an A but nothing is received. Any ideas? Another question is ... when a console applications writes on the screen it always does that by writing at the stdout or the stderr isn't it?

  • Executing commands containing space in bash

    - by Epitaph
I have a file named cmd that contains a list of unix commands as follows: hostname pwd ls /tmp cat /etc/hostname ls -la ps -ef | grep java cat cmd I have another script that executes the commands in cmd as: IFS=$'\n' clear for cmds in `cat cmd` do if [ $cmds ] ; then $cmds; echo "****************************"; fi done The problem is that commands in cmd without spaces run fine, but those with spaces are not correctly interpreted by the script. Following is the output: patrick-laptop **************************** /home/patrick/bashFiles **************************** ./prog.sh: line 6: ls /tmp: No such file or directory **************************** ./prog.sh: line 6: cat /etc/hostname: No such file or directory **************************** ./prog.sh: line 6: ls -la: command not found **************************** ./prog.sh: line 6: ps -ef | grep java: command not found **************************** ./prog.sh: line 6: cat cmd: command not found **************************** What am I missing here?

  • running bash scripts in php

    - by HDawg
I have two computers. On the first computer I have apache running with all my web code. On the second computer I have large amounts of data stored with a retrieval script (the script usually takes hours to run). I am essentially creating a web UI to access this data without any time delay. so I call: exec("bash initial.bash"); this is a driver script that is in my Apache folder. It calls the script on the other computer. calling: ssh otherMachine temp.bash& this script invokes the data retrieval script on the second computer. If I call initial.bash in the terminal, everything works smoothly and successfully, but if I call it in my PHP file, then all my commands in initial.bash run, with the exception of ssh otherMachine temp.bash&. I put the & at the end of that, so that temp.bash will run in the background, since it does take a few hours to complete. I am not sure why the nested script is not running when invoked by Apache. Is there a better alternative than using exec or shell_exec to call a script, which ultimately calls another script. The reason I don't call a script on the second machine directly is because of the time it takes the program to run. Shell_exec does not render the php page until the script is complete.

  • Identifying and removing null characters in UNIX

    - by fahdshariff
I have a text file containing unwanted null characters. When I try to view it in I see ^@ symbols, interleaved in normal text. How can I: a) Identify which lines in the file contains null characters? I have tried grepping for \0 and \x0, but this did not work. b) Remove the null characters? Running strings on the file cleaned it up, but I'm just wondering if this is the best way? Thanks

  • Bash: Terminate on Timeout/File Overflow while Executing Command

    - by Chris
I'm writing a mock-grading script in bash. It's supposed to execute a C program which will give some output (which I redirect to a file.) I'm trying to (1) make it timeout after a certain duration and also (2) terminate if the output file reaches a certain file size limit. Not sure how to go about either of these. Any help? Thanks.

  • MacFUSE: Keepalive?

    - by Wilco
Is there a way to configure MacFUSE to keep a mounted volume alive if the remote host is set to break the connection due to inactivity? If there is no direct way to configure this, would there be a way to write a script to accomplish this?

  • BASH: Find highest numbered filename in a directory where names start with digits (ls, sed)

    - by Jake
I have a directory with files that look like this: 001_something.php 002_something_else.php 004_xyz.php 005_do_good_to_others.php I ultimately want to create a new, empty PHP file whose name starts with the next number in the series. LIST=`exec ls $MY_DIR | sed 's/\([0-9]\+\).*/\1/g' | tr '\n' ' '` The preceding code gives me a string like this: LIST='001 002 004 005 ' I want to grab that 005, increment by one, and then use that number to generate the new filename. How do I do that in BASH?

    - by Kimi
I want to grep an environment variable env | grep ABC_IJK[1,2] currenlty defined variables are like this ABC_IJK1=123 ABC_IJK1_XYZ=sn123:345 ABC_IJK2=999 ABC_IJK2_XYZ=sn321:999 I only want to get only this ABC_IJK1=123 ABC_IJK2=999 get number of connections sum them(not 123 + 999) and save in N1 (this one has 2 connection) so N1=2 get number of connections sum them and save in N2 for other machine (if this have four) so N2=4 If the value is not there or the variable is not present then N1=1 for below: ABC_IJK1= ABC_IJK2=123 Then need to compare it with a MAX_CONNECTION variable Thanks

  • Unix file naming convention for effective tab completion?

    - by thebossman
I feel like I often name files in such a way that my computer constantly beeps while I program because the tab completion is ambiguous. Before doing a lot of Unix programming, I tended to name related files with the same prefix to indicate their relation. Now I must re-think my approach to folder and file structures and names to program more effectively. What heuristics or rules do you apply when programming to simplify tab completion? Do you use any tools to make tab completion smoother (e.g., emacs icicles)?

  • Want to improve my simple site/db backup script with auto removal of old backups.

    - by Robert Robb
I have the following simple script for backing up my website files and db. The script is run each day via a cron job. #!/bin/sh NOW=$(date +"%Y-%m-%d") mysqldump --opt -h localhost -u username -p'password' dbname > /path/to/folder/backup/db-backup-$NOW.sql gzip -f /path/to/folder/backup/db-backup-$NOW.sql tar czf /path/to/folder/backup/web-backup-$NOW.tgz /path/to/folder/web/content/ It works great, but I don't want loads of old backups clogging my system. How can I modify the script to remove any backups older than a week when the script is run?

  • Git sh.exe process forking issue on windows XP, slow?

    - by AndyL
Git is essential to my workflow. I run MSYS Git on Windows XP on my quad core machine with 3GB of RAM, and normally it is responsive and zippy. Suddenly an issue has cropped up whereby it takes 30 seconds to run any command from the Git Bash command prompt, including ls or cd. Interestingly, from the bash prompt it looks likes ls runs fairly quickly, I can then see the output from ls, but it then takes ~30 seconds for the prompt to return. If I switch to the windows command prompt (by running cmd from the start menu) git related commands also take forever, even just to run. For example git status can take close to a minute before anything happens. Sometimes the processes simply don't finish. Note that I have "MSYS Git" installed as well as regular "MSYS" for things like MinGW and make. I believe the problem is related to sh.exe located in C:\Program Files\Git\bin. When I run ls from the bash prompt, or when I invoke git from the windows prompt, task manager shows up to four instances of sh.exe processes that come and go. Here I am waiting for ls to return and you can see the task manager has git.exe running and four instances of sh.exe: If I ctrl-c in the middle of an ls I sometimes get errors that include: sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable 0 [main] sh.exe" 1624 proc_subproc: Couldn't duplicate my handle<0x6FC> fo r pid 6052, Win32 error 5 sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Or for git status: $ git status sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Can I fix this so that git runs quickly again, and if so how? Things I have tried: Reboot Upgrade MSYS Git to most recent version & Reboot Upgrade MSYS to most recent version & Reboot Uninstall MSYS & uninstall and reinstall MSYS Git alone & Reboot I'd very much like to not wipe my box and reinstall Windows, but I will if I can't get this fixed. I can no longer code if it takes me 30 s to run git status or cd.

  • popen fails with "sh: <command>: not found"

    - by smallmeans
I'm developing a server application and I recently encountered this wierd error on a testing server (Debian Squeeze). Every executable I pass to popen fails with a msg: sh: sort: not found // happens to any command This happens regardless whether I point to the full path returned by "type" or keep it short . As mentioned earlier, this happens at only one testing environment, to add confusion, am running the same OS and had no problem whatsoever. Popen is apparently using sh to execute commands, but if I run the same command thru the prompt (bash or sh), everything's fine Thanks in advance (PS: even tried Python os.popen just to nail this head scratcher, and it works!) Edit this is a simple call that fails: $command="tail -10 myfile"; $handle = popen($command.' 2>&1','r'); if($handle){ while (!feof($handle)){ ....//process buffer } } returns: sh: tail: not found

  • Bash completion for Maven escapes colon

    - by armandino
I added bash completion for Maven following the docs: http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-bash-m2-completion.html Everything works well except for goals that use a colon. For instance, instead of mvn eclipse:eclipse completion escapes the colon mvn eclipse\:eclipse Any suggestions how this can be fixed? I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-17-generic) and $ bash -version GNU bash, version 3.2.39(1)-release (i486-pc-linux-gnu)

  • Editing history in bash

    - by nameanyone
In bash, when I go back in history, edit some command and run it, this edited command is appended to history and the original one is left intact. But every once in a while I somehow manage to affect the original command, i.e. my edit replaces the original command back in history. I can't put my finger on how this happens. Can someone explain? My goal is to avoid this, so any edit to a previous command always gets appended to history and never replaces the original.

  • bash - how to filter java exception info

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: We've got a multi-agent Java environment where different agent would most likely produce all sorts of exceptions thrown to stderr. Here is a sample taken from the huge exception log **java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission ..\tournament\Driver\HotelRoomAnalyser.class read)** at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkRead(Unknown Source) at java.io.File.length(Unknown Source) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox$SandboxFileLoader.loadClassData(EmarketSandbox.java:218) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox$SandboxFileLoader.loadClass(EmarketSandbox.java:199) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) **java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission ..\tournament\Driver\HotelRoomAnalyser.class read)** at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkRead(Unknown Source) at java.io.File.length(Unknown Source) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox$SandboxFileLoader.loadClassData(EmarketSandbox.java:218) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox$SandboxFileLoader.loadClass(EmarketSandbox.java:199) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source) at MySmarterAgent.hotelRoomBookings(MySmarterAgent.java:108) fortunately all top-tier exceptions are denoted by no leading spaces, as wrapped by ** above. My concern is to get all of the top-tier exception name (delimited by colon :), together with the first line below which contains something like at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox$SandboxFileLoader.loadClassData(EmarketSandbox.java:218) Basically, something with padded style, starts with "at" and ends with ".java:108" So this info can be forwarded to the owner of that error-prone agent and let him/her fix it. My code in ~/.bashrc is incompleted now : alias startmatch='java -jar "emarket.jar" ../tournament 100'; function geterrors() { startmatch 2>"$1"; a=0; while read line do if true; then a=$(($a+1)); echo $a; fi; done } What it does now is to redirect all stderr to a text file specified by the first argument passed in, and after that, parse that text file line by line, if certain conditions returns true, echo only that line. And I am stuck with what to do inside the loop. Any suggestion is much appreciates, any hint is welcomed.

  • Missing output when running system command in perl/cgi file

    - by aladine
I need to write a CGI program and it will display the output of a system command: script.sh echo "++++++" VAR=$(expect -c " spawn ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no $USER@$HOST $CMD match_max 100000 expect \"*?assword:*\" send -- \"$PASS\r\" send -- \"\r\" expect eof ") echo $VAR echo "++++++" In CGI file: my $command= "ksh ../cgi-bin/script.sh"; my @output= `$command`; print @output; Finally, when I run the CGI file in unix, the $VAR is a very long string including \n and some delimiters. However, when I run on web server, the output is ++++++ ++++++ So $VAR is missing when passing in the web interface/browser. I know maybe the problem is $VAR is very long string. But anyway, is there anyway to solve this problem except writing the output to a file then retrieve it from browser? Thanks if you are interested in my question.

  • Invoke gdb to automatically pass arguments to the program being debugged

    - by aistone
Hi, I'd like to write a script that (under certain conditions) will execute gdb and automatically run some program X with some set of arguments Y. Once the program has finished executing the user should remain at gdb's prompt until s/he explicitly exits it. One way to do this would be to have the script output the run command plus arguments Y to some file F and then have the script invoke gdb like this: gdb X < F But is there a way to do this without introducing a temporary file? Thanks.

  • Detect number of IDLE processors ruby

    - by Yannick Wurm
Hello, I work on shared linux machines with between 4 and 24 cores. To make best use of them, I use the following code to detect the number of processors from my ruby scripts: return `cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor | wc -l`.to_i (perhaps there is a pure-ruby way of doing this?) But sometimes a colleague is using six or eight of the 24 cores. (as seen via top). How can I get an estimate of the number of currently unused processors that I can use without making anyone upset? Thanks!

  • Check if a php script is still running

    - by Nirmal
I have a script that listens to a jabber server and responds accordingly. Though it's not supposed to stop, last night it did. Now I want to run a cron job every minute to check if the script is running, and start it if not. The question is, how do I check if a particular script is still running? Some solutions have been posted here, but those are all for Linux, while I am looking for a Windows solution. Any ideas please? Thanks.
