• Is there any map maker for javaME game?

  For the past two weeks I was trying to make a map maker for my java ME 2D RPG game. I failed because i get errors using slick TWL and the forum for this is inactive. So I just wondered is there anyone that knows slick TWL (Themable Widget Library)? Or maybe do you know a good MapMaker where i could upload my map elements build a map and get numbers to use them for building map with LayerManager class? Already found one http://sourceforge.net/projects/tilemapeditor2d/. But the thing is my map elements are in different .png images. In one of those images there is 16 elements (trees water and etc) and those kind of images are 29. So it would be hard to build a map with LayerManager Well I was thinking putting everything into one image and that way it would be simplier.

• Best way to manage a changelog

  I'm currently developing a WinForm application. In order to inform the client about the improvements and corrections made during the last version, I would like to manage and display a changelog. I mostly found existing changelog on website (the term changelog is pretty used) or explanation on how to manage the release numbers, which I don't care. So, these are my questions: Is there a good practice in changelog management (using XML, pure text in the app, etc.) in a desktop application ? What is the best way to display it (external website, inside the winform application) ? Thanks.

• Framework for interaction between web-page and server-side script

  I want to make a web-page that will have several controls elements, among which there are elements like check-boxes, radio-buttons, "range selectors" (one can specify the min and max value, like it is done when you select range for prices in the online markets). The new values shall be sent to the "server-side", once changed (without any Submit buttons etc), and the "server-side" can return something (one or more numbers, etc). Does anyone know a good ajax-like framework that allows (with minimal adaptation / changes) to make such solution in an easy way? It will be good if the server-side of existing solution will be in Perl (not a big deal, but I know it much better than PHP or something else). Set of controls might change and depend on other parameter, so adding one extra element should not cause rewriting the whole thing. P.S.: I haven't working in this area for quite a while, so not aware of existing solutions in this area, and don't want to invent the wheel and write everything from scratch for something that already exist (at least, I hope so). • unable to boot from live USB!

  Linux noob here. I was messing around with my new dual-boot (win7 and the latest ubuntu, 12.04 I think?) Long story short, I deleted some partitions that I shouldn't have. When I boot up the machine, I get: error: no such partition. grub rescue _ I know that I could probably fix this by booting from the live USB. But I can't boot from the live USB either! On startup, I can get "boot from drive" options by pressing F12. (This is how I installed Ubuntu in the first place.) But when I select the USB drive, I get this error: error: no such device: [long string of letters and numbers]. grub rescue _ I've searched around for a fix but most threads addressing the first problem suggest booting from live drive. And I can't do that! Any help much appreciated.

  I'm trying to make a Sudoku puzzle generator. It's a lot harder than I expected and the more I get into it, the harder it gets! My current approach is to split the problem into 2 steps: Generate a complete (solved) Sudoku puzzle. Remove numbers until it's solveable and has only 1 solution. In step 1, since I'm using a brute force methods, I'm facing some run time issues. Is there an optimal way of filling in a complete Sudoku puzzle? In step 2, what kind of algorithm should I use to "puzzlize" a solved sudoku?

• What is required to create local business rich-snippets complete with sitelinks AND breadcrumbs?

  I have a local business directory site. I would like to markup my business listing 'profile' level pages for display as enhanced listings/rich-snippets complete with business names, addresses and phone numbers. I would also like to display site-links and path-based breadcrumbs to help users navigate site directory hierarchy (which is deep). Is there a limit to the amount of breadcrumbs a site can leave? Is there a separate limit on the number of breadcrumbs which Google/Bing will display in the SERP? What kind of markup language(s) would be needed to best position my site to show site-links AND breadcrumbs? • Structuring an input file

  I am in the process of structuring a small program to perform some hydraulic analysis of pipe flow. As I am envisioning this, the program will read an input file, store the input parameters in a suitable way, operate on them and finally output results. I am struggling with how to structure the input file in a sane way; that is, in a way that a human can write it easily and a machine can parse it easily. A sample input file made available to me for a similar program is just a stream of comma-separated numbers that don't make much sense on their own, so that's the scenario I am trying to avoid. Though I am giving the details of my particular problem, I am more interested in general input-file structuring strategies. Is a stream of comma-separated values my best bet? Would I be better off using some sort of key:value structure? I don't know much about this, so any help will probably put me in a better track than I am now.

• I need some help creating a non-binary tree (or some other data structure that will better solve my problem)

I need to build an efficient way of finding all the lines in each list that has the same 'control' number (or key for dB guys) and comparing what is in their string parts. I am writing this in Java. • Unneeded RAID recovery

  I have two software RAID 5s. Today when I turned on my server (after it was off for two weeks when I was on vacation), I got the message that the software RAID is degraded and was offered RAID recovery console or boot degraded. No idea what to do in that recovery console btw, so I just exited it. After the boot finished normally I took a peak at /proc/mdstat but there is nothing amiss there. So I took a look at mdadm --detail /dev/md0 (and md1) and again everything looks fine with Failed Devices being 0 both times. Next I took a look at smartctl --alll /dev/sdX for all of the drives and Reallocated_Sector_Ct is 0. (Lots of other zeros, all numbers look to me fine) Anybody have any ideas why I'm getting the RAID recovery message on boot when nothing seems bad?

• Improving python code

  I just answered the question on project euler about finding circular primes below 1 million using python. My solution is below. I was able to reduce the running time of the solution from 9 seconds to about 3 seconds. I would like to see what else can be done to the code to reduce its running time further. • Google Analytics Funnel problems

  I have a problem with the funnels in Google Analytics. So I have a e-commerce website that I want to track the user path to a purchase. I want GA to track if a user goes trough these steps [Item page]-[Purchase]-[Checkout]. I thought this could be done by funnels and my setup currently now consist of: Step 1: [Item page] (Required) Step 2: [Purchase] Goal: [Checkout] But when I go to the "Funnel Visualization Report" the following shows. [Item page] Visits: 150 [Purchase page] Visits: 170 [Checkout] Visits: 32 How can the [Purchase page] be higher than the [Item page]? I searched the internet over, and found something called Horizontal Funnels but this doesn't show the correct numbers, again the purchase and checkout steps are higher than the item page. So somehow it doesn't need step 1, to fulfill the funnels/goals. What am I doing wrong?

• Even distribution through a chain of resources

  I'm working on an algorithm which routes tasks through a chain of distributed resources based on a hash (or random number). For example, say you have 10 gateways into a service which distribute tasks to 1000 handlers through 100 queues. 10,000 connected clients are expected to be connected to gateways at any given time (numbers are very general to keep it simple). Thats 10,000 clients 10 gateways (producers) 100 queues 1000 workers/handlers (consumers) The flow of each task is client-gateway-queue-worker Each client will have it's own hash/number which is used to route each task from the client to the same worker each time, with each task going through the same gateway and queue each time. Yet the algorithm handles distribution evenly, meaning each gateway, queue, and worker will have an even workload. My question is what exactly would this be called? Does such a thing already exist? This started off as a DHT, but I realized that DHTs can't do exactly what I need, so I started from scratch.

  When I try to install a software using Ubuntu Software center I get: Failed to download repository information Check Your Internet connection When I try to do a apt get-install something, I get: 407 Proxy Authentication Required I use a proxy server that requires a user-name and a password. I have set my systems proxy manually, by plugging in the required numbers in the Networks proxy and applied it system wide. I guess the problem now is plugging in my user-name and password. When I use INTERNET via Mozilla, it specifically asks me for my user-name and password.

• What kind of math should I be expecting in advanced programming?

  And I don't mean just space shooters and such, because in non-3D environments it's obvious that not much beyond elementary math is needed to implement. Most of the programming in 2D games is mostly going to involve basic arithmetic, algorithms for enemy AI and dimensional worlds, rotation, and maybe some Algebra as well depending on how you want to design. But I ask because I'm not really gifted with math at all. I get frustrated and worn out just by doing Pre-Algebra, so Algebra 2 and Calculus would likely be futile for me. I guess I'm not so "right-brained" when it comes down to pure numbers and math formulas, but the bad part is that I'm no art-expert either. What do you people here suppose I should do? Go along avoiding as much of the extremely difficult maths I can't fathom, or try to ease into more complex math as I excel at programming?

• Rotate an object given only by its points?

  I was recently writing a simple 3D maze FPP game. Once I was done fiddling with planes in OpenGL, I wanted to add support for importing Blender objects. The approach I used was triangulization of the object, then using Three.js to export the points to plaintext and then parsing the result JSON in my app. The example file can be seen here: https://github.com/d33tah/tinyfpp/blob/master/Data/Models/cross.txt The numbers represent x,y,z,u,v of a single vertex, which combined in three make a triangle. Then I rendered such an object triangle-by-triangle and played with it. I could move it back and forth and sideways, but I still have no idea how to rotate it by some axis. Let's say I'd like to rotate all the points by five degrees to the left, how would a code doing it look like?

I have been trying to see opportunities to use the pattern in my applications but I am having trouble seeing how to use it. Also, what are some signs that a fly weight pattern is being used when I read other peoples code? According to the definition it says: Use sharing to support large numbers of fine-grained objects efficiently. • The network printer will only print blank pages and will not stop. What should I do?

  I work in a library, so we have a Ricoh printer that is networked between all of us. I just recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 64bit on my desktop and have been trying to set up the printer without success. Ubuntu found the printer immediately and allowed me to set it up. When I hit test print, I get one sheet with writing on it and then it prints blank pages and will not stop until I turn off the printer. I tried printing from a document and I get the same one page with writing and then all the blank pages again. Below is what the page says with writing on it. • What is the most compatible, widely used production language to export knowledge and skills gained from Haskell?

  I like Haskell, plain and simple. While Haskell is used in production software, it's not especially widely deployed from what I've seen. What is the most similar and still widely used language in regards to production projects so that I might have a snowball's chance of using something similarly awesome in industry? Also is the same language from the first part available on large numbers of platforms? If not, what is the best alternative that has wide platform deployment? I'd like a single language to put on my to-do list rather than a massive swarm or family. Hard evidence would be a plus.

• How can I ensure reasonably spaced out enemies

  I have a simple javascript game and I'm initializing their positions on the y axis using random numbers. How can I ensure that they are reasonably spaced apart? My simple algorithm is: y = (Math.random()*1000%600); However I frequently get enemies almost directly on top of each other. This is a huge problem for the game, since it's a word game and the enemies have text on their center, that if overlapped makes them impossible to kill since you can't see the words. Any advice would be appreciated! I'm pretty new to making games in general so this has all been a learning experience for me!

  I am starting an e-commerce marketplace. I am new to e-commerce, but I am taking it up as a challenge. I will have multiple vendors on my site and they will upload their products through CSV files for bulk upload. However there will be certain popular products already listed in the database, they can add those to their listing (like Amazon for 3rd party sellers). I have no idea how to assign product codes for every product, can you help me out? I'm talking about something like Amazon's ASIN number. Or may be is it possible to let vendors assign their own numbers? How does that work?

  My colleague uses the Binary Calculator functions in bandwidth calculations; as much as terrabytes, and with percentage splitting on allocation. His usage of these functions appears correct in order not to lose a byte; although he seems to be using them now for everything. The manual only says: For arbitrary precision mathematics PHP offers the Binary Calculator which supports numbers of any size and precision, represented as strings. How much is any size? Is it really necessary? How big is the default float in PHP? Are there any good advice regarding this or things to keep in mind?
