  • Click behaviour - Difference in IE and FF ?!

    Hey folks, i just came to the conclusion that a project i am currently working on might have a "logical" error in functionality. Currently I'am using server technology with PHP/MySQL and JQuery. Within the page there's a normal link reference with tag <a href="contentpage?page=xxx">next step</a> The pain point now seems to be the given jquery click event on the same element. The intension was to save the (current) content of the page (- form elements) via another php script using the php session command. For any reason, IE can handle the click event of Jquery right before executing the standard html command, that reloads the current page again with the new page parameter. By using FF the behaviour is different. I assume, that FF first execute the html command and afterwards execute the javascript code which handles the click event. Therefore the resultset here is wrong respectivly empty. My question now is whether you made the same experience and how you handled / wordarrounded this problem. I'd be thankful fur any of your tips or further feedback. Maybe you also have a solution on how to rethink about the current architecture. Regards, Oliver

    in firefox I can usee firebug, in chrome I can use the css console. Both to make live changes to css for troubleshooting purposes. However I do not know of a way to do this in IE, which is where I have the most css issues. So, whats the best way to troubleshoot css issues in IE? Thanks!

  • Accordion "growing out" from its container - in IE7/8

    I think this problem is best explained by images. This is how my accordion looks: When you click on the small plus/minus icons the slides under each chapter will expand/collapse. However when the content in the accordion grows too tall, it grows out from its container. So if I click on more plus icons the accordion will look like this (not pretty): As you can see, the container is not growing taller together with the accordion and it does not look good. This problem only occurs in IE7 and IE8. It works in Firefox and Chrome.     Hi fellows, I just wrote a javascript code for layering in raphaeljs it works perfectly on FF. But it doesn't on IE. The problem is IE returns null for nextSibling for any object. How does one use it correctly, or is there a nextElementSibling call in IE?   • IE10 - Progress bar animation issue

    I'm trying to incorporate some animated progress bars but I'm having trouble getting them to animate in IE10. I believe the problem is due to the keyframes being inside the media query but have not been able to get it working. Thanks for your help.   • Google Pie Chart and Bar Chart (both Interactive) not showing labels.

    I'm trying to put Google's BarChart and PieChart both the client side version, and i'm experiencing some problems with the labels over the pie and the labels on the left of the vertical axis (of the bar chart). I checked the code a lot of times and it seems to be like that you can see in the examples. I've tried the same page on Firefox and Chrome and it shows the labels without problems. If i try the examples on IE8 the labels are shown but not in my page. Sincerely I've not any idea where to start to fix this thing. Someone can help me or give me an advice? Thanks in advance.

I use the following code jquery('<button/>', {type:'button'}).text(name) However this works in Safari , FF IE8 but not IE7 i tried to use the attr function : jquery('<button/>').attr('type','button').text(name) this does not work either. any ideas what would work? I suppose if I don't assign a type it would default to button but i rather do that thanks for your help

Any help would be appreciated. It still works without the image preloading, so if all else fails I'll just wrap the preloading in an if !($.browser.msie){ } and call it a day.

  • Select dropdown with fixed width cutting off content in IE

    The issue: Some of the items in the select require more than the specified width of 145px in order to display fully. Firefox behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list adjusted to the width of the longest element. IE6 & IE7 behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list restricted to 145px width making it impossible to read the longer elements. The current UI requires us to fit this dropdown in 145px and have it host items with longer descriptions. Any advise on resolving the issue with IE? The top element should remain 145px wide even when the list is expanded. Thank you!   • Why does my DIV clip its child DIV when jQuery moves it in IE?

    I have two divs, both with position:absolute;, one inside the other. The parent isn't in a place where it can be set as position:relative without an extra layer of complexity (there are a lot of other elements around it that I'd have to account for to put it where it needs to be, which is at the very top of the page, over everything). The child element is made to stick off the bottom of the parent. In Chrome, Safari, Firefox, it all works splendidly. In IE, it works until jQuery moves the parent element - at which point the parent element clips the child, so you can barely see the top of the child. I feel like I've read about this, about IE clipping child elements, but I can't seem to find an answer that applies to my case.   • Strange problem with ie6 messing up layout, and fixing byitself some time after loading

    We have a big ie6 layout problem with a newly launched website: in the header in our homepage, we have a coda-slider, and apparently its messing upt the wole layout of the front page. I have been looking at float and height problems but cannot seem to solve it. Also, the most strange part is that if you wait a while after loading, the layout "fixes itself". Help! The url is the following (without the spaces, sorry) w w w . r e - c r e a r t . c o m Edit: update, it sounds crazy, but if you press control and use the mouse wheel (as if you were zooming in /out in a modern browser, although ie6 doesnt do that) the layout fixes as well. Please help, I am going crazy.

I cannot bind the input types as exceptions because the content editor in sharepoint allows to modify the text in div or paragraph elements etc. The solution is not working in IE8 because the event.target returns the element that is on mouseover when there's no controls that has the focus.   • CSS not displayed depending on page

    I have a friend that has a really strange issue with my website. When he clicks on http://www.copeo.fr/ the page displays fine but when he clicks on a link like www.copeo.fr/user/ the CSS is not applied even after a refresh. The raw html does display. I asked him to display the CSS that is hosted on amazon S3 hcopeoressources.s3.amazonaws.com/style/futurvert/style.css and it displays fine. The code validates on W3C validator so does the CSS. I am lost what could be the origin of the issue. Could it be its enterprise cache? configuration of IE7 on his machine? If it happens to someone else who could explain the issue to me, I am all hears. Thanks

  • Background image fixed with vertical scroll bar in IE

    I have a gradient background image in my web application, it goes from dark at the top to light at the bottom. In Firefox, this image is handled properly, where upon scrolling vertically downwards on the page, the dark top section disappears. However, when I started testing in IE (I'm using IE8) the background image stays fixed behind the screen as you vertically scroll, meaning the dark top section of the background image is always rendered at the top of the IE view. I've set the background tag to have scroll defined, which from all I can tell should solve the problem, but IE is not happy. background: #470077 url( images/abcd.jpg ) repeat-x scroll; I made sure to be clearing the data in IE in case it was caching the old style before I added scroll.   • IE7 and 8 Hangs Randomly on CSS Images

    We have an ASP.NET 3.5 application that has been in production for over a year. Our last release was a couple of months ago. We use CSS for styling and application of background images to divs and such. The server is Windows 2003 with IIS. Suddenly, this week, we have had reports from some users that the page seems to hang up while loading. The status bar was showing the name of a background image used in the page main area (assigned in CSS). At our office, some of us could recreate the problem, while others could not. IE6 and Firefox do not seem to be affected, only IE7/8. Running Fiddler on an affected machine and trying to see what was happening with the requests seemed to make the problem go away (while running through Fiddler, it returned when not). Hitting Refresh on a hung load often made the page load just fine. I checked the background image, and even replaced it with an archived copy. No joy. We re-deployed the app from our production source. No Joy. We restarted IIS and eventually rebooted the whole server. There are no unusual entries in the event logs, the app logs or the IIS logs. Finally, I removed the image entirely and re-styled the page not to use a background image. That solved the problem at least for now. However, we have reports of other images "hanging." The images are PNGs, but I have heard some rumors that sometimes a GIF hangs, but I have no screenshot to confirm. This just started happening "out of the blue." There have been no releases or updates applied to the server recently. We even checked updates on clients to see if a recent Windows Update might have caused this on the client, but there was nothing updated within the last couple of weeks. If you have any information about this problem, I would love to hear from you. I would also greatly appreciate any recommendations on additional diagnostics we can try.
