• Problem interfacing GSM USB modem to Java application

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. When I plug in the GSM modem and launch the application, it sometimes detects the GSM device and i am even able to send and receive SMS. Or else 1.) • FileSystemWatcher.Changed fires immediately when Excel 2007 opens XLS file in compatibility mode

  We use a FileSystemWatcher to monitor documents opened from our Document Management system, and if the user saves the document, we ask if they would also like them updated in our system. We have a problem with XLS files in Excel 2007 (have not verified that the problem does not exist in 2003, but it only seems to be files that open in compatibility mode in 2007) where the Changed event fires immediately upon opening the file, and then once more upon closing the file, even if nothing has changed or the user chooses not to save upon closing. This same behavior does not exist when opening XLSX files. I wrote a test app to verify the behavior, which you can find at (http://www.just2guys.net/SOFiles/FSWExcel.zip). In the app, there is one FileSystemWatcher for each NotifyFilter type, so that it is apparent why the Changed event was fired. Any way you can think of to only prompt the user when the document is actually saved in some way by the user? I can start monitoring the file after Process.Start is called, which allows me to skip the message upon opening the document, but I still get one upon closing the document, even when nothing was changed.

• Can't install plugins in Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) on Ubuntu

  Eclipse Version 3.5.2 Build id: M20100211-1343 Platform: Ubuntu 10.4 I go to install any new software Eclipse plugins (e.g., pydev, subclipse), and it gets to the 60% mark and stops. I wait for a long while and nothing happens. When I hit "cancel" a security warning comes up "Warning: You are installing software that contains unsigned content.." I click "OK" but it's too late because I've cancelled the installation already. It won't pop up until I hit "cancel". I've tried moving all the windows around, that security warning is not there. In previous incarnations of Eclipse, I've been able to click "OK" on that warning (no canceling) and all is well. I've also tried two JREs (Ubuntu's default openjdk and Sun's JDK 1.6.0_20). Is there some way to get that warning to come up, or even just have it always accept unsigned content? I've downloaded the zip of pydev and unzipped it into ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.5.0_155965261/ and Eclipse doesn't have Pydev when restarted, so manually installing plugins is also a pain. This is not my day. Yes, I see the other questions of this type and they don't seem to answer my problem.

• How can I install asp.net mvc 2 on IIS7?

  I have developed an ASP.NET MVC 2 website, and now need to deploy it to my web server. I've overcome some hurdles already, since ASP.NET was not installed etc. but I've now got to the point where I can serve up plain content files, and if I try to hit one of my MVC URLs I get this: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Not surprising, that, as I've not installed MVC2. Problem is, I can't find any good information about how to install it! The Microsoft Download Center lists 3 files, none of which look promising: ASP.NET-MVC-2-RTM-Release-Notes.doc AspNetMVC2_VS2008.exe mvc2-ms-pl.zip The site doesn't bother to explain what the files actually are, but I assume that the last file is the source code. That's what it looks like, anyway. The release notes are no help whatsoever, since they're all about installing on your development machine, and indeed the name of the EXE makes it clear that that's all about Visual Studio integration too. So how do I actually deploy the darn thing? The other option linked to from Scott Gu's blog is the Microsoft Web Platform Installer. Now, I don't want to install more than just MVC2, and I already have IIS etc. set up, so this seems a bit heavy. But it's all academic, as it refuses to run on my server, saying "your system is not supported" or words to that effect. (The server is Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2, so I really don't know what it's problem is). Help! [It's ridiculous that this should be so hard - or perhaps not hard at all, but certainly a well-kept secret!]

• How do I use Fluent NHibernate with .NET 4.0?

  I want to learn to use Fluent NHibernate, and I'm working in VS2010 Beta2, compiling against .NET 4, but I'm experiencing some problems. Summary My main problem (at the moment) is that the namespace FluentNHibernate isn't available even though I've imported all the .dll assemblies mentioned in this guide. This is what I've done: 1. I downloaded the Fluent NHibernate source from here, extracted the .zip and opened the solution in VS. A dialog asked me if I wanted to convert the solution to a VS2010 solution, so I did. 2. I then went into each project's properties and configured all of them to compile for .NET 4, and built the entire solution. 3. I copied all the .dll files from /bin/Debug/ in the FluentNHibernate to a new folder on my local hard drive. 4. In my example project, I referenced FluentNHibernate.dll and NHibernate.dll from the new folder. This is my problem: If I right-click on FluentNHibernate in the References list and select "View in Object Browser...", it shows up correctly. Now, when I try to create a mapping class, I can't import FluentNHibernate. This code: using FluentNHibernate.Mapping; namespace FluentNHExample.Mappings { } generates an error on the using statement, saying The type or namespace 'FluentNHibernate' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?). The FluentNHibernate assembly is still in the list of References of my project, but if I try to browse the assembly in Object Browser again, it can't be found. What is causing this?

  The following C++ library was successfully compiled in VS2008 http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmlrpcc4win/files/xmlrpcc4win/XmlRpcC4Win1.0.8.zip/download When I open it in VS2010, it goes through the conversion wizard process without any errors. For instance, back_insert_iterator is in fact a member of std, but VS doesn't seem to think it is. How do I fix errors like these? I'm new enough to C++ that I'm having a tough time figuring out this one.

• Getting MSDeploy working on our build/integration server - Is an MSBuild upgrade necessary?

  We have what I think is a fairly standard build process: 1. Developer: Check in code 2. Build: Polls repo, sees change, and kicks off build that: 3. Build: Updates from repo, Builds w/ MSBuild, Runs unit tests w/ nunit, 4. Build: creates installer package Our security team allows us to pull from the build server, but does not allow the build server to push. So we generally rdp in, d/l the installers, and run them, which rules out the slick deployment services, so I would need to generate packages instead. I'd like to use MSDeploy, except that we have the following issues: We're on .net 3.5, and the MSBuild target (Package) that uses MSDeploy requires 4.0. Is there anything I'd need to install other than .net 4.0 RC for this? (Would MSBuild be part of that upgrade?) When I generate packages with MSDeploy, I see that I don't have just 1 file. There's a zip, deploy.cmd, SourceManifest.xml, and SetParameters.xml. What are all the other files for, and why wouldn't they all be in the 'package'? It sounds as if you can create packages by telling the system to look at a working IIS site. But if the packages are build from a CI environment, aren't you basically out of luck here? It feels like they designed some of this for small-scale developers deploying from their dev environment. That's a fine use case, but I'm interested in see what everyone's enterprise-experience is with the tool Any suggestions?

  I am trying to support UTF-8 characters in my ANT script. As long as the character string are made up of 2-byte UTF-8 characters, such as: Lògìñ Ùsèr ÌÐ Then things work fine. When I use Unicode Han Character: ? Which, according to this site: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/6211/index.htm Has a UTF-8 encoding of 0xE6 0x88 0x91 I can see in UltraEdit, my input properties file has the values "E6 88 91" all in a row, so I'm fairly confident that my input is correct. And When I open the same file in Notepad++ I can see all the characters correctly. The message box is not displayed, therefore, the methods are not being called. Details: I have an application that is attempting to use a UITabBarController to switch between multiple views. The views are linked up to the UITabBarController using interface builder (select the tab page, open Attributes (Option-1), and fill in the NIB Name field), and so are displayed "automatically" with no extra code-behind to make them appear. Is it intended behaviour that views loaded like this do not have their viewDidLoad method executed? If not, how am I doing it wrong, and what do I need to change. If it is intended behaviour, I can think of a few work-arounds, but any suggestions are appreciated: Scrap the UITabBarController and implement the view switching myself (using initWithNibName and add/insert/push/Subview). Call each of the children's viewDidLoad method manually in the UITabBarController's own viewDidLoad method. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

• MSDeploy migrate only configuration from IIS 6 to 7

  We have 19 websites, many of which have many "virtual" directories, on a IIS 6 server. I am trying to migrate the whole thing over to IIS 7 on a different server. Following the instructions on http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/427/migrate-a-web-site-from-iis-60-to-iis-70/ I attempted the following command line execution: msdeploy -verb:sync -source:metakey=lm/w3svc -dest:package=D:\Temp\Sites.zip > D:\temp\WebDeployPackage.log It appeared to be working until I got a "There is not enough space on the disk" error. The D drive, which you'll notice is the target location for the package and the log has plenty of space (all the resources for the websites are about 5gb, the drive has 200+). Though the C drive is of limited size (6Gb), so that might be the problem. Anyway, I figure the best bet was to try and do a migration of settings/configurations only, not the actual resources. We can easily deploy the resources to the new server with our NAnt build scripts, so that's not an issue. Getting all the correct configurations moved over, however, would be challenging to do manually. So, is there a way to export/package only the configuration/options of the IIS 6 server using msdeploy (or any other tool?)

• How do you construct an array suitable for numpy sorting?

  I need to sort two arrays simultaneously, or rather I need to sort one of the arrays and bring the corresponding element of its associated array with it as I sort. That is if the array is [(5, 33), (4, 44), (3, 55)] and I sort by the first axis (labeled below dtype='alpha') then I want: [(3.0, 55.0) (4.0, 44.0) (5.0, 33.0)]. These are really big data sets and I need to sort first ( for nlog(n) speed ) before I do some other operations. I don't know how to merge my two separate arrays though in the proper manner to get the sort algorithm working. I think my problem is rather simple.   hi guys, I was wondering if there is someway to embed a Flash Shockwave Object or .SWF file in MS Powerpoint (Presentation) 2007 and higher version. ie inside ".pptx" formats . by embed i mean when i save the presentation,close it . i wont be needing the the .swf file again.that way i can share the Presentations with others. If i use this link Insert-Flash-Into-PowerPoint-2007,it works but when i save and close the presentation,the swf file doesnt get embeded. (Note:if i do the same with a .ppt file,it works correctly.) I know we can embed the swf inside powerpoint presentation version 2003 ie.".ppt" format. but couldn't do the same in .pptx format. Also is it possible to embed .swf file in .pptx using OpenXML format? I tried to rename the ".pptx" file to ".zip" and added the ".swf" in media folder. and then renamed it back to ".pptx",but when opened in Powerpoint,it gave error about unreadable content or corruption. I had read somewhere that its kind of strategy from MS not to provide this kind of support for Adobe Swf file / ActiveX object. and as of now the feature is not supported.   On the remote web server I have installed the remote service http://x.x.x.x/MsDeployAgentService. If I use the Web Application Project's Publish command in VS2010 I can successfully publish to this remote web server and update a specific IIS website. What I want to do now is execute this capability from the command line. I am guessing it is two steps. First build the web application project using the relevant build configuration: msbuild "C:\MyApplication\MyWebApplication.csproj" /T:Package /P:Configuration=Release Then issue the MsDeploy command to have it publish/sync with the remove IIS server: msdeploy -verb:sync -source:package="C:\MyApplication\obj\Release\Package\MyWebApplication.zip" -dest:contentPath="My Production Website", computerName=http://x.x.x.x/MsDeployAgentService, username=adminuser,password=adminpassword Unfortunately I get an the error: Error: (10/05/2010 3:52:02 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer.   I'm trying to make an Address control that has an IsReadOnly property, which will make every TextBox inside read only when set to true. <my:AddressControl Grid.Column="1" Margin="5" IsReadOnly="True"/> I've managed to do this just fine with a dependency property and it works. Not surprising because its looking for IsReadOnly on the Address data entity and it doesn't exist or belong there. I've tried just about every combination of binding attributes to get IsReadOnly to bind to the AddressControl obejct but can't get it working. I've tried things like this, but I can't get IsReadOnly to bind independently to the AddressControl property instead of its DataContext. <TextBox IsReadOnly="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=IsReadOnlyProperty}" Text="{Binding City, Mode=TwoWay}" /> I think I'm pretty close. What am I doing wrong?

• SQLite NHibernate configuration with .Net 4.0 and vs 2010

  I am having way too much trouble getting my environment straight after switching to 2010 and .net 4.0, so I'd like to break the whole process down once and for all. 1) Which SQLite dll?? I think it is SQLite-1.0.65.1-vs2010rc-net4-setup.zip. Yes? 2) I ran the installer so the dll is in the GAC but I usually find there are less problems if I can just reference the dll stand alone. Is there any reason it needs to be in the GAC, and if not, what's the best way to uninstall it from the GAC (I can get to the GAC folder but it says I need permission to delete the files; should I leave the SQLite Designer dll's there?)? 3) x64. There is an x64 dll in the download. I had problems with SQLite in the past though that I could only resolve by compiling to x86. Can I safely reference the x64 dll and compile to Any CPU now? 4) what is the right NHib config? I have been using the one below, but since the error I get says "Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver." that configuration is guilty until proven innocent too? 5) could FNH be a problem too? I don't use the pre-configured fluent SQLite method but FNH has to provide a reference to it for that to work, no? • Android SDK fails to install

  When I try to install the android SDK it fails to install. My OS is Windows XP I just downloaded and installed Java JDK 1.6 Java -version from the command line returns: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing) My environment vars have: JAVA_HOME=c:\progra~1\java\jdk1.6.0_11 I downloaded android-sdk-r04-windows.zip I unziped it in V:\AndroidInstall\ When I go to the V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows and type "SDK Install.exe" nothing happens... If I go this from graph When I do this from a graphical file viewer I get a quick flash that looks like a command line window and nothing.... When I try to run android list targets from the tool directory I get: Error: Error parsing the sdk. Error: V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows\platforms is missing. Error: Unable to parse SDK content. So the basic install setup is not happening. Additional clues: I have a G1 and Android 1.0 was running on this machine. (Almost a year ago) I've updated my G1 to 1.6 so I thought I'd update my SDK before starting new development. When I tried to upgrade it tried and then died as the "directory was in use" So I cleaned out all the android directories, rebooted and redownloaded everythign from scratch. Now it won't run at all. I've clearly got something in an unhappy state, but I've cleaned up all the directories and no remanants seem to be running I've rebooted.... I've missed somethign I just can't figure out what. Paul

• Security error accessing Service outside of FlexBuilder

  I'm very new to Flex and I have what I think it a head-scratcher. I am building a little Flash app that will consume some web services over HTTP. When I am in Flexbuilder and run my app there, it works fine. When I goto to my FlexBuilder project on my OS and double-click on it, it works fine. When I zip up my bin-debug file, I get this error: Security error accessing url faultCode:Channel.Security.Error faultString: 'Security error accessing url' faultDetail:'Destination: DefaultHTTP' So I googled that and got information on about the crossdomain.xml file. Well, I can't put a crossdomain file in the service I am calling, but I can put one somewhere else. So I put the following lines in Flex app: Security.allowDomain("vx1391"); Security.loadPolicyFile("http://vx1391:8080/job/Remote%20FIT%20Runner/ws/trunk/flash-cross-domain.xml"); My cross-domain.xml file is wide-open: &lt;cross-domain-policy&gt; &lt;allow-access-from domain="*"/&gt; </cross-domain-policy> Which I know is bad in a prod enivironment, but right now I just need to get this working locally but outside of FlexBuilder. Anyone want to help out this Flex-noob?

• Javadoc through Ant task with {@inheritDoc} from J2SE classes

  I generate documentation for a project using an Ant task. In several places, I wanted to inherit documentation from the standard classes, so I used {@inheritDoc} which allowed me to see the Javadoc in Eclipse, but it wouldn't show up in the HTML files. The problem was that I hadn't included the unzipped src.zip (J2SE source) in the sourcepath. Having fixed that, I now get several hundred warnings about the use of Sun proprietary API in files like lib/jdk-src/java/lang/Class.java. Is there any way to suppress these warnings? It's hard to find relevant problems in this mess. A possible solution I thought of was to run the Javadoc task once without including the J2SE source in the sourcepath, which will reveal any real issues. Then I can run Javadoc a second time with the J2SE source included, discarding the output altogether, which will produce documentation with properly-working {@inheritDoc}s. I'm not entirely sure about the best way to accomplish this in Ant, not to mention that running Javadoc twice would be a dirty fix. Any suggestions?

• NSCollectionView subclass doesn't call drawRect during drag session despite setNeedsDisplay

  Greetings, I am puzzled as to how and when drawRect is supposed to be called in a NSCollectionView subclass. I implement drag and drop operation in order to move NSCollectionViewItems within the collection, and would like to draw a visual indication of where the drop would end.
