  • How to avoid escaping by accident in PERL using system()?

    I want to run some commands using the system() command, I do this way: execute_command_error("trash-put '/home/$filename'"); Where execute_command_error will report if there was an error with whatever system command it ran. I know I could just unlink the file using Perl commands, but I want to delete stuff using trash-put as it's a type of recycling program. My problem is that $filename will sometimes have apostrophes, quotes, and other weird characters in it that mess up the system command or Perl itself.

  • Open dot-file with dialogue in OSX

    Since the GUI-side of OSX treats all dot-files (such as .htaccess) as hidden, it doesn't display them in any of the graphical UI:s, e.g. Finder or the Open-dialogues. How can I open a dot-file (.htaccess in this case) in a graphical editor, without doing that thing for all hidden files, universally and without going through Terminal.app? Edit: I'm on Leopard, if that makes a difference. Edit2: TextWrangler and TextMate seem to have features that allow you to open hidden files, which partly answers my question.

    I am attempting to code some plugins to use with MIDI sequencers but have hit a stumbling block. I can't use global-scope variables to store information because multiple instances of the .dll can exist which share memory. How do I create a class (for re-usability purposes in other plugins) containing 2 dimensional array and other variables the content of which is to be shared between functions? If that is possible, how would I read and write the data from the function in the framework where I do the processing?

  • Is it possible to make JQuery keydown respond faster?

    I am writing a simple page with JQuery and HTML5 canvas tags where I move a shape on the canvas by pressing 'w' for up, 's' for down, 'a' for left, and 'd' for right. I have it all working, but I would like the shape to start moving at a constant speed upon striking a key. Right now there is some kind of hold period and then the movement starts. How can I get the movement to occur immediately?   • Are vector assignments copied by value or by reference in Google's Go language?

    In the following code, I create one peg puzzle then do a move on it which adds a move to its movesAlreadyDone vector. Then I create another peg puzzle then do a move on it which adds a move to its movesAlreadyDone vector. When I print out the values in that vector for the second one, it has the move in it from the first one along with the move from the second one. Can anyone tell me why it seems to be assigning by reference and not value?   • skip reading headers in matlab

    I had a similar question. but what i am trying now is to read files in .txt format into matlab. My problem is with the headers. Manytimes due to errors the system rewrites the headers in the middle of file and then matlab cannot read the file. IS there a way to skip it? I know i can skip reading some characters if i know what the character is. here is the code i am using. [c,pathc]=uigetfile({'*.txt'},'Select the data','V:\data); file=[pathc c]; data= dlmread(file, ',', 1,4); this way i let the user pick the file. My files are huge typically [ 86400 125 ] so naturally it has 125 header fields or more depends on files.     I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

    The Scala compiler compiles direct to Java byte code (or .NET CIL). Some of the features of Scala could be re-done in Java straightforwardly (e.g. simple for comprehensions, classes, translating anonymous/inner functionc etc). What are the features that cannot be translated that way? That is presumably mostly of academic interest. More usefully, perhaps, what are the key features or idioms of Scala that YOU use that cannot be easily represented in Java? Are there any the other way about? Things that can be done straightforwardly in Java that have no straightforward equivalent in Scala? Idioms in Java that don't translate?

I got 2 arrays, like this: array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "19088" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "15566" } } array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "12043" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "11953" } } Now I'd like to create a new array, with the % difference between the values per key. Would be something like this: array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "88,23" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "74,54" } } Can anyone help me how to create that array?

  • Can you use MongoDB map/reduce to migrate data?

    I have a large collection where I want to modify all the documents by populating a field. A simple example might be caching the comment count on each post: class Post field :comment_count, type: Integer has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :post end I can run it in serial with something like: Post.all.each do |p| p.udpate_attribute :comment_count, p.comments.count end But it's taking 24 hours to run (large collection). I was wondering if mongo's map/reduce could be used for this? But I haven't seen a great example yet. I imagine you would map off the comments collection and then store the reduced results in the posts collection. Am I on the right track?

    Looking to find the appropriate regular expression for the following conditions: I need to clean certain tags within free flowing text. For example, within the text I have two important tags: <2004:04:12 and . Unfortunately some of tags have missing "<" or "" delimiter. For example, some are as follows: 1) <2004:04:12 , I need this to be <2004:04:12> 2) 2004:04:12>, I need this to be <2004:04:12> 3) <John Doe , I need this to be <John Doe> I attempted to use the following for situation 1: String regex = "<\\d{4}-\\d{2}-\\d{2}\\w*{2}[^>]"; String output = content.replaceAll(regex,"$0>"); This did find all instances of "<2004:04:12" and the result was "<2004:04:12 ". However, I need to eliminate the space prior to the ending tag. Not sure this is the best way. Any suggestions. Thanks

  • Tracking SVN changes through multiple merges

    At work we use a branching strategy where all changes start off in a development branch, then subsequently make their way through one or more integration branches, and finally end up in a release branch. Occasionally (more often than I'd like) I find myself needing to figure out where a particular change originated (which development branch). In this case I have to spend a considerable amount of time playing detective to trace a change backwards through 2-3 merges. Am I missing an easy way to do this?

I have a Nib with a view that has a class identity set to TestView In my view controller, I use the following code: CGRect myRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320,240); TestView *myTest = [[TestView alloc] initWithFrame:myRect]; [self.view addSubview:myTest]; I have a NSLog in the TestView class's initWithFrame that fires when the above code is executed, but the view doesn't appear in the view controllers view.   • VirtualBox: How to connect to Internet via wi-fi on Mac?

    I installed VirtualBox with a Win XP VM on my Mac running OS 10.7.5. My Mac only has a wi-fi connection to the internet. On the settings for the virtual host, I set: Attached to: Bridged Adapter Name: en1: Wi-Fi (AirPort) Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM) Promiscuous Mode: Deny Mac Address: Cable Connected: true Those are the settings I see around the internet as being correct, but I still can't ping anything. On my Mac I have internet sharing via Ethernet enabled (not sure if that matters). When I start up my WinXP VM, it asks me to install a bunch of hardware which I don't have any drivers to. Do I need to install any ethernet card drivers in order for the internet to work? Thank you!!
