    I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time on PC, I have done some googling to get an idea about installing any application in Ubuntu but yet not clear about the proper procedure !! Most of the time when I try to install any application. Example: Opera, I downloaded the Opera installable package from http://www.opera.com/. Ran the downloaded file but the installer hangs up. <<OR If I try to install any installation package from Ubuntu Software Center/Software Source. Initially, it starts downloading but takes too long to process and fails almost in middle of 100%. Question: Is there any reliable, proper and easy step-by-step procedure?

    Given a proper Office 2003 CD, is it possible to extract just the files that are needed for one application... i.e. Word or Excel? Browsing the CD, you can see WORD11.MSI. The goal here is to extract just the necessary bits to install the one app. Disk space isn't the concern, but rather the larger question of 'is it possible' and how? Is it possible to copy those files from the CD to another location to allow the installation of just one application? What files would be required from the CD to accomplish this?

    I'm trying to install a program on a Windows 7 machine, but in the end of the installation process, when I press "Finish", I get an error message saying: Actrix.exe - System Error The program can't start because GX6050R.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. I have tried reinstalling the program, restarting the computer (before reinstalling) etc., but I can't get this to work. The sites I find when I Google this suggest I download some "Error repair tool" (not happening). Any clues as to how I can fix this?

  • Preparing a new physical system with VMWare

    I need to create a new installation of Windows, but at the same time I need this computer. So I decided to create a new physical disk from within VMWare, install windows/drivers/software and then just replace the HDD in the computer. I've bought a new HDD, split it into two partions and installed Windows 7 using the VMWare's ability to use phusical disks. I can see the windows files and directories that have been created on this partition, but when I'm replacing the HDD in the host machine it cannot boot from it. Why is that? Is it at all possible to create a bootable physical disk with VMWare or I should create a virtual disk and then use some HDD imaging tool to copy the HDD image to a physical disk? Maybe there's a better way of installing a new system and working on the computer at the same time?

    Good afternoon, Windows Server 2012 R2 as host fully up to date Windows Server 2012 R2 as guest fully up to date Whether I am running it as a host or guest, whenever I am installing an application that should take a couple minutes it always ends up 3x-5x longer than it should. If I take the same applications and install it on any other OS (IE 2k8, 7,) it they install very quickly. Dell server management software took 30 minutes or so when it takes 5 minutes or so on 2k8. Even a clean install not joined to domain I still experience this same slowness on applications I attempt to install. So my question to everyone is, are you or anyone else experiencing this? I cannot find anything on google so this is why I am here

    I am very new to linux. I have install apache 2.2.21 on linux 6 platform. While i am using ./apachectl start or ./apachectl -k start command it shows that apache is started. Once I needed the 8GB stick for another purposes so I thought about coyping it to my desktop doing from mac os x: dd if=/dev/disks3s of=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy Now I am trying to do the opposite, after having used the stick, which was formatted to NTFS, just doing dd if=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy of=/dev/disks3s but although I can see that almost of the files are there, I can not boot again. IT is also strange the the file permissions are kind of strange, something like _user What can I do ? Thanks

When i tried again, after booting from CD a black screen with a mouse pointer appears. No further progress. The mouse pointer can be moved. I tried with some other disks also.   • Acer Aspire PC locked up and won't re-start

    Vista Home Premium locked up on 5/12/10 while on a website and could not get to 'control-alt-delete.' Mouse locked, too. On/off switch would not work (stayed lit) so I unplugged the power cord. When I tried to re-start the computer I could hear a fan running but it would not boot up, nothing on the monitor and no lights on the keyboard. O/S was preloaded so I do not have a boot disk.I tried pressing F1, F2 and F11 and also with monitor off but nothing worked. Computer has not been been moved or abused so all internal connections should be fine. Have updated Windows Vista Home Premium regularly and also updated Avira anti virus and anti malware programs regularly. Using Firefox and Vista Home Premium O/S. Computer is 2 years old and was purchased new from Best Buy.

    I need help installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition.I really need to remove the current SQL Server 2005.installation that is no longer on my Add/Remove software list but yet still installed on the machine. I tried to uninstall SQL Server Express / Developer Edition but it only removed it from my Add/Remove software list. It returned immediately but did NOT actually remove the product. (I'm now in a bad state.) i tried to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and its says I'm blocked as all components are already installed - but they are not.     I've an application that need to be deployed to some testers. those with windows machine are reporting that the certificate used for signing the application couldn't be installed because of an unknown critical extension (1.2.840.113635.100.6.1.4) is there a way to make that critical extension known to windows (vista 64bit specifically)? I'm guessing that all this system of extension give user the ability to register callbacks to interpret the various added extensions (it would be totally useless otherwise)

    HI Folks, i have an Inspiron E1505 with Windows 7 and Intel GMA 945 Chipset. I connected a Dell SP2309W 23" monitor via VGA to the laptop but it is not achieving it's original resolution but is stuck at 1024 x 768. Also it is detected as a Generic Non PNP Display Device.     I am preparing to reinstall my system. I am thinking about creating a multi boot with a linux distro+Windows 7 to choose from when starting up. I would love to be able to skip all the hassle of reinstalling Windows and all programs when it starts becoming too slow in the future, thus I would like to mirror my fresh Windows system partition with some programs preinstalled. I am thinking about installing Ubuntu, making a partition for windows, installing windows with the basic environment (Visual Studio, Office, etc.) then booting into Linux and making an image of the windows partition with dd. I am not familiar with linux at all so I am a little afraid something may go wrong along the way. Is it possible to do it this way? Will I be able to partition my existing disk for multi boot easily after I install Ubuntu? Will I be able to recover the Windows partition easily using dd when I will need to re-create a fresh windows partition in the future? What other (better) approach can you recommend to achieve the goal of easy disk mirroring (for free)?

    So I've stumbled across PacketFence during my search for a decent Network Access Control system. After doing a little research about it's capabilities I've come to realize it's meets all the requirements that I was looking for. Unfortunately, being primarily a MS Administrator, I'm having many issues trying to successfully getting it up and running. Is there anyone or any place that has a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this? I love the prospect of using Open Source software, but need some help jumping this particular hurdle. I'm trying to use CentOS for the OS but I'm open to alternatives if thats what it takes to get this system up and running.
