  • windows xp mode for windows 7 - save text input language settings

    When I change the 'default language' in 'text services and input languages' in windows xp mode from EN-US to DE-DE the settings are reverted with the next logoff / reboot - EN-US is the default language again. Is there a way around this behaviour? I'm using the default 'XPMUser' in windows xp mode. I also checked 'turn off advanced text services' and disabled the language bar and windows xp remembers these settings - just not the default language..

    What happens when a Windows 7 backup disk is full? I've been trying to find documentation on the issue without success. Does Windows 7 automatically delete the oldest backup files to free up space or does it force you manually pick and choose which files to delete? Time Machine automatically deletes the oldest copy of files, but as far as I can tell Windows 7 makes you manually choose. I keep getting a running out of disk space for backup notice on Windows 7 without any option to not warn me and just delete the oldest files automatically...

  • Google shows subdomain of main site instead of add on domain URL [closed]

    I have my host (lunarpages) set up with a few add on domains to my main account. These show up as sub-domains of my main account, but they can be reached by using the new domain I've created. So: subdomain1.domain.com -- www.mynewsite.com subdomain2.domain.com -- www.myothersite.com etc. The problem is, mynewsite.com shows up in google with that domain, but myothersite.com shows up with subdomain2.domain.com. I don't have a clue what might be causing this to happen. If anyone has an advice or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

  • Can't update BIOS on Dell E6530

    I have a problem with the video output on my E6530. It does not show anything during POST on my external screens. As it seems this is related to A09 BIOS which is currently installed. I wanted to upgrade to A11 BIOS and downloaded the installer from the Dell Website. The installer launches correctly and displays the current version, the update versions and reboots the system afterwards. Bit the BIOS version remains A09. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Any hints? Thank you very much. System Spec: OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1 AV: Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8.1 UAC: Disabled, my user is in the Administrators group

  • Windows Mobile Signature Capture and Barcode Scanning

    Currently I have 7 Motorola MC75 Phones all running Windows Mobile 6.1 and using PTS Tracer Plus for signature capture and barcode scanning. After multiple returns with Motorola, and have verizon verify the data connections on all my phones in the field. I have found that PTS Tracer Plus 5, is the culprit in freezing and crashing before, during, and after signature collection. Does anyone know of another software package for Windows Mobile 6.1 that does signature capture and barcode scanning? I'm also going to try PTS Wireless 6 beta1 as well too, but I would like to know what other peopel are using successfully. Thanks!

  • Iomega eGo Encrypt Plus Encrypted Partition not mounting properly says "local disk"

    I'm working with an Iomega eGo 500gb Encrypt Plus portable drive. When I first set it up and installed the software and set a user password everything worked fine. The partition labeled "IomegaHDD" mounted properly and I could access the free space. Then I changed the ADMIN password which required me to lockout the device, wait 60 seconds, and then login to the Admin section and change the password, lockout the device again, wait 60 seconds, and then log back in with my user password. When I did that it of course unmounted the IomegaHDD partition to secure it, when it remounts it, it only shows up as "local disk" now and will not remount properly. I had not removed the cable while doing any of this. I have since tried unplugging and plugging back in to login to the drove but that has not worked. I'm wondering if I should remove every instance of "generic usb hub" from device manager and wait for it to re-add itself, or move it to a new set of USB ports temporarily to seee if that helps. Any ideas?

    I wanted to ask a multi-part question. Does Comcast Cable Internet services record MAC Addresses of the Router behind the cable modem. I know they record it for the modem itself. But is there a way for the Modem/Comcast to relay and keep logs of the MAC ID of the Router itself? Then does a windows operating system Log the MAC ID of the Router when its connected to it? But for the programs that have their own uninstall.exe, is there any real difference between the un-installations? Is the Control Panel's cleaner in removing dependencies?

  • Why is my Current Printer unavailable in Office ?

    Whenever I try to print any document from Microsoft Office 2007 in Windows Vista 64-bit there is a great possibility that the print job will fail with the following error message: Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer. Only problem is no printer works, not even Bullzip PDF Printer. The only way to resolve this that I have found so far is a reboot, but I don't want to do that all the time. I am using Windows Vista 64-bit. I've had the problem using both SP1 and SP2. The problem occurs on both locally installed and network printers, as well as the virtual printer Bullzip PDF Printer. My primary source of the problem has been Excel, but the error has also occurred in Word. Changing the default printer and restarting the Microsoft Office-application solves this temporarily, but not permanently. Google:ing the error message returns a lot of questions but no solutions, so seems like a frequent problem. What could be a permanent solution for this problem? UPDATE: It seems that my problem stems from me opening MS Office applications by opening a document from Total Commander with administrative rights. This somehow makes the applications not find the printers. Opening MS Office applications either from the Start menu or by opening a document in a non-administrator Explorer allows me to print.

  • What does 1080p mean in laptop resolution?

    Dell is selling a laptop (Studio 15) where the options for screen resolution are 720p, 900p, and 1080p. What do they mean? I've found a Wikipedia entry that lists the old confusing (UXGA, WUXGA, &c) names and seems to indicate that 1080p might be 1920x1080. It has no information on 900p or 720p. Really, it was bad enough with the WUXGA style descriptions. I think vendors should tell you what they're selling. If you know what the screen resolutions are, I'd appreciate hearing it here.

  • Can't re-install OS on Asus Eee PC 1018P

    My friend has an Asus Eee PC 1018P. It has no CD/DVD drive (neither does he have a USB CD/DVD drive). The OS wasn't working fine, so we decided to restore the system using the provided OS backup from HD. But mid way through the installation it was interrupted and the computer was restarted (not a hardware or software issue – we did it). Now we cannot run the backup and we also tried to install Windows 7 through USB, but as soon as we start to install the OS, it says that some device driver is missing. It turns out that the OS needs a USB device driver to continue. It has USB 3.0 – maybe that's why the OS needs the driver. I tried disabling 3.0 and enabling 2.0 but then it does not boot from USB drive for some reason. We are stuck with this. The backup doesn't run and when booting from USB, it says that it needs a device driver. Anyone has any idea what we could do?

In India, the cost of different versions: Ultimate - 11,200 INR Professional - 10,700 INR Home Premium - 6,600 INR The absolute cost of the first two is so high to me that the difference (500 INR) doesn't matter. So to me there is really no choice between the first two - If I decide to buy the Professional version, I'd rather go for Ultimate itself. What I want to know is, whether Home Premium is enough for my needs. I tried searching for comparison but many look like just marketing junk from MS. They are short and vague. According to this page, the major differences between Pro and HomePremium are Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode. Connect to company networks easily and more securely with Domain Join. You can do both in Pro but not in Home Premium. I intend to use my Windows 7 for a small business - just starting up. So I'll be dealing with the following: All kinds of development tools, servers Very important - I will run Virtual Machine Software (MS VPC or VMWare or Sun VirtualBox etc..) My system will be acting as the server for most purposes till I can afford dedicated servers. Connect the system to a variety of network devices (PCs, Printers, etc..) Run productivity, business and financial apps Any other small software startup business requirement that I haven't thought of yet. Professional (and Ultimate) is twice as expensive as Home Premium. So it'd be great if someone can point out the things you cannot do with Home Premium, when you use it like I explained above, so that I can make a decision about which one to buy.     Hi there, I have the Sony DR-BT50 wireless headphones. I've been able to successfully pair them to my iPhone and play music through them, but no such luck with my PC. I can add it to the bluetooth devices, but when the "Driver Software Installation" screen comes up, I get a red X and "No driver found". Any ideas how to fix this? (I have a bluetooth keyboard & mouse paired successfully, so it's not a problem with my laptop's bluetooth.)

  • How to actually defragment a JFFS2 filesystem

    I have searched all over the Internet, including on a number of StackExchange forums, for a workable method for defragmenting a JFFS2 filesystem and cannot find an answer. The system in question has a 256MB NAND flash part. It is being accessed as a MTD device which is divided into three partitions. The third partition is where the root file system is being stored as a JFFS2 file system. The issue is that writes to the root file system have non-deterministic performance due to the usual issues of the JFFS2 garbage collector deciding to run at the worst possible times. When that happens, the product is hung for some unknown length of time while the garbage collector (and pdflush) run. Changing the file system isn't an option. The solution needs to be something that can run during off-hours that after having been run results in more predictable write performance. Right now I am working on a program that will attempt to force the garbage collector to run, then delete the file with the hope that all of the freed nodes are suddenly more readily available and make writes perform better. Thoughts?

    I'm looking for a NAS Adapter that supports attaching multiple USB devices to the network. Here's what I'd like to see in a NAS adapter: Under $100.00. Support for multiple devices. This can be through a USB hub or through multiple USB connectors on the device itself. Bittorrent support would be nice, but this isn't a deal-breaker. Filesystem support for at least NTFS or FAT32. I'd prefer to not have to reformat to use the device, but this is also not a deal-breaker. Here is what I am NOT looking for: I'm NOT looking for a NAS enclosure. I already have a couple of spare external USB drives that I'd like to use. I'm NOT looking for a networked USB hub like the one mentioned here. Network USB hubs only allow access to a drive from one PC at a time. I'm NOT looking for a wireless router with a NAS built in. I already have a wireless router, and I'd rather not go through the hassle of replacing it if possible. What I've looked at so far PogoPlug: This supports multiple devices via a USB hub, but there's not Bittorrent support. It's $99.00, so I may end up going with this and hope that they patch in Bittorrent support later. Addonics NAS Adapter: This supports only one device per adapter, so it's a non-starter. SimpleNET NAS Head USB 2.0 Portable Dongle: I'm not 100% sure this supports multiple devices. Plus there doesn't seem to be any Bittorrent support. I'll try to update this post as I explore other devices.
