    My input string is '16-MAR-2010 03:37:04' and i want to store it as datetime. I am trying to use: db_inst.HB_Create_Ship_Date = datetime.strptime(fields[7]," %d-%b-%Y %H:%M:%S ") fields[7] = '16-MAR-2010 03:37:04' I am getting an error: ::ValueError: time data '16-MAR-2010 03:37:04' does not match format ' %d-%b-%Y %H:%M:%S ' I am running Python version --EDIT-ME-- on the --EDIT-ME-- operating system. My locale is --EDIT-ME--. Which format do I have to use?

So if there isn't a way to get rid of the thread lock, is there a way to have it run the for loop inside of the try statement faster?

  • Thread-safe equivalent to python's time.strptime() ?

    Something I wrote throws a lot of AttributeErrors when using time.strptime() inside a thread. This only seems to happen on Windows (not on Linux), but whatever…. Upon a'Googling, it seems that time.strptime() isn't considered thread-safe. Is there a better way to create a datetime object from a string? Current code looks like: val = DateFromTicks(mktime(strptime(val, '%B %d, %Y'))) But, that yields the AttributeErrors as its run inside a thread. Thanks!

We decided to go with Date.strptime for parsing and validation, which works great, except for how it just ignores any garbage data entered.   • datetime command line argument in python 2.4

    I want to pass a datetime value into my python script on the command line. My first idea was to use optparse and pass the value in as a string, then use datetime.strptime to convert it to a datetime. This works fine on my machine (python 2.6), but I also need to run this script on machines that are running python 2.4, which doesn't have datetime.strptime. How can I pass the datetime value to the script in python 2.4?     I'm getting a datetime string in a format like "2009-05-28T16:15:00" (this is ISO 8601, I believe) one hack-ish option seems to be to parse the string using time.strptime and passing the first 6 elements of the touple into the datetime constructor, like: datetime.datetime(*time.strptime("2007-03-04T21:08:12", "%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S")[:6]) I haven't been able to find a "cleaner" way of doing this, is there one?

Are there any functions that I can use that know how to translate both November and ?????? into 11? EDIT: Running print_r(setlocale(LC_ALL, 0)); returns C. Switching back to strptime() seems to fix the problem, but the docs warn: Internally, this function calls the strptime() function provided by the system's C library. This function can exhibit noticeably different behaviour across different operating systems. The use of date_parse_from_format(), which does not suffer from these issues, is recommended on PHP 5.3.0 and later. Is date_parse_from_format() the correct API, and if so, how do I get it to recognize the language?

    First, I am NOT a python developer. I am trying to fix an issue within a python script that is being executed from the command line. This script was written by someone who is no longer around, and no longer willing to help with issues. This is python 2.5, and for the moment it cannot be upgraded. Here are the lines of code in question: start_time = datetime.strptime(str(paf.Start),"%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S") dict_start = datetime(*start_time[:6]) end_time = datetime.strptime(str(paf.End),"%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S") dict_end = datetime(*end_time[:6]) When this code is ran, it generates an error with the description: 'datetime.datetime' object is unsubscriptable. This is the import statement: from datetime import datetime I have a feeling that this is something simple, but not being my native language and Google not yielding any valuable results, I am stuck. I have tried a couple of different import methods, yielding different errors, but all with these statements. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Having this script use DateTime; use DateTime::Format::Strptime; my $p = DateTime::Format::Strptime->new(pattern => '%F %T', time_zone => 'local'); my $dt1 = DateTime->now(time_zone=>'local')->set_time_zone('UTC'); my $dt2 = $p->parse_datetime('2010-10-23 14:10:02')->set_time_zone('UTC'); print Dumper($dt1->hms); print Dumper($dt2->hms); print Dumper($dt1 > $dt2); The problem is that $dt1 is off by 1 hour. Like $VAR1 = '12:09:55'; $VAR1 = '11:10:02'; $VAR1 = 1; If I remove set_time_zone('UTC') in both cases - dumped values are okay. My feel is that somewhere DST is taken into account unnecessarily, but can't find out. Update: I dumped $dt-time_zone-name and $dt-offset for both and that's what i get. $VAR1 = 'Europe/Kiev'; $VAR1 = 7200; $VAR1 = 'Europe/Kiev'; $VAR1 = 10800; How this could be possible?

  • What is an efficient method for partitioning and aggregating intervals from timestamped rows in a da

    From a data frame with timestamped rows (strptime results), what is the best method for aggregating statistics for intervals? Intervals could be an hour, a day, etc. I've found the aggregate function, but that doesn't help with assigning each row to an interval. I'm planning on adding a column to the data frame that denotes interval and using that with aggregate, but if there's a better solution it'd be great to hear it. Thanks for any pointers!

    I have a variable which is <type 'datetime.timedelta'> and I would like to compare it against certain values. Lets say d produces this datetime.timedelta value 0:00:01.782000 I would like to compare it like this: #if d is greater than 1 minute if d>1:00: print "elapsed time is greater than 1 minute" I have tried converting datetime.timedelta.strptime() but that does seem to work. Is there an easier way to compare this value?

    I store some data in files which follow this naming convention: /interesting/data/filename-YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM How do I look for the ones with date in file name < now - 1 month and delete them? Files may have changed since they were created, so searching according to last modification date is not good. I want to use the strptime() function to split the date data and use it but I can't find how to convert a buffer to string.
