  • transform longitude latitude into meters

    - by Sponge
I need a function that maps gps positions to x/y values like this: getXYpos(GeoPoint relativeNullPoint, GeoPoint p){ deltaLatitude=p.latitude-relativeNullPoint.latitude; deltaLongitude=p.longitude-relativeNullPoint.longitude; ... resultX=latitude (or west to east) distance in meters from p to relativeNullPoint resultY=longitude (or south to north) distance in meters from p to relativeNullPoint } i have seen some implementations of "distance of two geoPoints" but they all just calculate the air-line distance. i think the deltaLongitude can be transformed into meters directly but the deltaLatitude depends in the Longitude. does anyone know how this problem can be solved?

  • how to get the latitude or longitude in HTML 5

    - by steven spielberg
few month ago i write something to get the latitude or longitude from google API. latter i get the database from drupal for latitude or longitude to most of city in worlds. but the problem is that the same city name can be found two or more times in a area. like Firozabad in India and bangladesh both. Agra in UP and agar in Rajasthan. means the confusion in name by user if they found two city by same name they are confused. i hear that HTML 5 support latitude or longitude of the visiter but i need latitude or longitude where they are born or city they want to use to fill a form. how i can get the latitude or longtiude from API like google and some other. the process is that: user put the location in textbox for getting their latitude or longitude. for right thing i want to show them all location [if same thing found more then one]. they can choose the right location and after click they can get the lati and langitude. how i can do this using any API.

  • Android Show Map location when Longitude/ Latitude values are in DMS Format

    - by JibW
In my Android application I need to load Google map and show the location according to the Latitude and the Longitude values provided. I referred the following tutorial and its completely ok. Work fine. Link to the tutorial I followed Problem is Latitude and Longitude values are stored in SQLite database in the DMS Fromat. If those values were in the Decimal Degrees format then No problem, as I can do the way it was in that tutorial. I need to Show the exact place by adding Overlay Item(I have given the Longitude and Latitude values by DMS Format). [Example values: 36°7'59''N, 5°25'59''W] Thanks...

  • get the time offset from GMT from latitude longitude

    - by ravun
Is there a way to estimate the offset from GMT (or time zone) from a latitude/longitude? I've seen geonames, but this would need to work long term and we don't really want to rely on a web service. It'd just be used for determining whether to display "today" or "tonight" when giving information to various users so it wouldn't need to be too accurate (an hour or two off wouldn't be bad).

  • Need to find latitude and longitude of postcodes and store into my database

    - by Matt
Hey guys, Ive got a database full of UK Postcodes, now i'd like to be able to store the latitude and longitude of these specific postcodes along with the record with the database. Is there anyway that i can obtain this data free without violating any T&C's? I know i could do this using google maps api for each postcode, but i have way over 20,000 postcodes in this database and to get the lat and lng for each of these postcodes each time is not an option really. Thanks in advance, M

Some more info, if you click on this link you can see the results I am looking for. The postcode I entered projects to lat/lng using WG S84 and the grid ref projects to OSGB. So my question is how is this done? WHAT I LEARNT Thanks to all that answered, I finally got led to here which I can confirm works great

  • Polygon area calculation using Latitude and Longitude generated from Cartesian space and a world fil

    - by Heath
Given a series of GPS coordinate pairs, I need to calculate the area of a polygon (n-gon). This is relatively small (not larger than 50,000 sqft). The geocodes are created by applying an affine transform with data from a world file. I have tried to use a two step approach by doing converting the geocodes to cartesian coordinates: double xPos = (lon-lonAnchor)*( Math.toRadians( 6378137 ) )*Math.cos( latAnchor ); double yPos = (lat-latAnchor)*( Math.toRadians( 6378137 ) ); then I use a cross product calculation to determine the area. The issue is that the results are a bit off in accuracy (around 1%). Is there anything I can look into to improve this? Thanks.

  • Zoom to fit region for all annotations - ending up zooming in between annotations

    - by Krismutt
    Hey everybody!! I have a problem with fitting all my annotations to the screen... sometimes it shows all annotations, but some other times the app is zooming in between the two annotations so that none of them are visible... I want the app to always fit the region to the annotations and not to zoom in between them... what do I do wrong? if ([mapView.annotations count] == 2) { CLLocationCoordinate2D SouthWest = location; CLLocationCoordinate2D NorthEast = savedPosition; NorthEast.latitude = MAX(NorthEast.latitude, savedPosition.latitude); NorthEast.longitude = MAX(NorthEast.longitude, savedPosition.longitude); SouthWest.latitude = MIN(SouthWest.latitude, location.latitude); SouthWest.longitude = MIN(SouthWest.longitude, location.longitude); CLLocation *locSouthWest = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:SouthWest.latitude longitude:SouthWest.longitude]; CLLocation *locNorthEast = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:NorthEast.latitude longitude:NorthEast.longitude]; CLLocationDistance meter = [locSouthWest distanceFromLocation:locNorthEast]; MKCoordinateRegion region; region.span.latitudeDelta = meter / 111319.5; region.span.longitudeDelta = 0.0; region.center.latitude = (SouthWest.latitude + NorthEast.latitude) / 2.0; region.center.longitude = (SouthWest.longitude + NorthEast.longitude) / 2.0; region = [mapView regionThatFits:region]; [mapView setRegion:region animated:YES]; [locSouthWest release]; [locNorthEast release]; } Any ideas? NEW CODE (by Satya) -(void)zoomToFitMapAnnotations:(MKMapView*)mapview{ if([mapview.annotations count] == 0) return; CLLocationCoordinate2D topLeftCoord; topLeftCoord.latitude = -90; topLeftCoord.longitude = 180; CLLocationCoordinate2D bottomRightCoord; bottomRightCoord.latitude = 90; bottomRightCoord.longitude = -180; for(FSMapAnnotation* annotation in mapView.annotations) { topLeftCoord.longitude = fmin(topLeftCoord.longitude, location.longitude); topLeftCoord.latitude = fmax(topLeftCoord.latitude, location.latitude); bottomRightCoord.longitude = fmax(bottomRightCoord.longitude, savedPosition.longitude); bottomRightCoord.latitude = fmin(bottomRightCoord.latitude, savedPosition.latitude); } MKCoordinateRegion region; region.center.latitude = topLeftCoord.latitude - (topLeftCoord.latitude - bottomRightCoord.latitude) * 0.5; region.center.longitude = topLeftCoord.longitude + (bottomRightCoord.longitude - topLeftCoord.longitude) * 0.5; region.span.latitudeDelta = fabs(topLeftCoord.latitude - bottomRightCoord.latitude) * 1.1; // Add a little extra space on the sides region.span.longitudeDelta = fabs(bottomRightCoord.longitude - topLeftCoord.longitude) * 1.1; // Add a little extra space on the sides region = [mapView regionThatFits:region]; [mapView setRegion:region animated:YES]; } Can't get it to work...   • How to convert Vector Layer coordinates into Map Latitude and Longitude in Openlayers.

    - by Jenny
I'm pretty confused. I have a point: x= -12669114.702301 y= 5561132.6760608 That I got from drawing a square on a vector layer with the DrawFeature controller. The numbers seem...erm...awfull large, but they seem to work, because if I later draw a square with all the same points, it's in the same position, so I figure they have to be right. The problem is when I try to convert this point to latitude and longitude. I'm using: map.getLonLatFromPixel(pointToPixel(points[0])); Where points[0] is a geometry Point, and the pointToPixel function takes any point and turns it into a pixel (since the getLonLatFromPixel needs a pixel). It does this by simply taking the point's x, and making it the pixels x, and so on. The latitude and longitude I get is on the order of: lat: -54402718463.864 lng: -18771380.353223 This is very clearly wrong. I'm left really confused. I try projecting this object, using: .transform(new OpenLayers.Projection("EPSG:4326"), map.getProjectionObject()); But I don't really get it and am pretty sure I did it incorrectly, anyways. My code is here: http://pastie.org/909644 I'm sort of at a loss. The coordinates seem consistent, because I can reuse them to get the same result...but they seem way larger than any of the examples I'm seeing on the openLayers website...

  • converting GPS latitude/longitude from different formats to one format (in PHP)

    - by Dave
Hi. i'm trying to built in support for locations in my application and i'm expecting users to be inputting gps coordinates in a variety of ways. I need to convert all of the below to: latitude - direction (N/s), degres, minutes, seconds; longitude (E/W) - degrees, minuts, seconds. Each user input will be in a single line. eg: 9.182, -39.140625 9.182 / -39.140625 9.182,-39.140625 9.182 -39.140625 21° 16' 674S[some_separator]27° 30' 318E 21 16 674S[some_separator]27 30 318E [some_separator] may be a single space as well... The final format needs to beas: latitude.direction = south latitude.degrees = 21 latitude.minutes = 16 latitude.seconds = 674 longitude.direction = east longitude.degrees = 27 longitude.minutes = 30 longitude.seconds = 318 (a) what is the simplest way of asking ordinary-non-tech users to input the GPS coordinate?s (b) how do i convert the above to the final format? any built in functions that handle these variations in data input? i've seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2548943/gps-format-in-php - but i need to handle a more varied input.

  • longitude and latitude for current location returned from CLLocationManager in UK region is not corr

Hi I am getting latitude and longitude of current location from CLLocationManager delegate method. It works fine for some region but its giving problem in UK region.
