    My development env. is, Win7 Ultimate Ruby 1.9.2p180 Rails 3.0.9 Gem 1.8.5 sqlite3 and mysql2 gems are installed My IDE is netbeans 7.0. ruby plugin for netbeans 7.0 is installed. i want to create a new rails app thru netbeans. but it hangs at the process of 25%. does someone hit the same issue? Is there a solution? From the output, i can see the rails app file structures are created. I know some of you may suggest me to use linux to develop rails app. that's an option. but i am newer to linux. i'd like to use win7 at present.

  • Android Remote Service Keeps Restarting

    Ok so I've built an app that uses a remote service to do some real time GPS tracking. I am using the below code to start and bind to the service. The remote service uses aidl, sets up a notification icon, runs the GPS and locationListener. In onLocationChanged, a handler sends data back to the caller via the callback. Pretty much straight out of the examples and resources online. I want to allow the service to continue running even if the app closes. When the app is restarted, I want the app to again bind to the service (using the existing service if running) and again receive data from the tracker. I currently have the app mode set to singleTask and cannot use singleinstance due to another issue. My problem is that quit often even after the app and service are shut down either from the app itself, or from AdvancedTaskKiller, or a Forceclose, the service will restart and initialize the GPS. touching on the notification will open the app. I again stop the tracking which removes the notification and turns off the GPS Close the app, and again after a few seconds the service restarts. The only way to stop it is to power off the phone. What can I do to stop this from happening. Does it have to do with the mode of operation? START_NOT_STICKY or START_REDELIVER_INTENT? Or do I need to use stopSelf()? My understanding is that if the service is not running when I use bindService() that the service will be created...so do I really need to use start/stopService also? I thought I would need to use it if I want the service to run even after the app is closed. That is why i do not unbind/stop the service in onDestroy(). Is this correct? I've not seen any other info an this, so I,m not sure where to look. Please Help!   • how to rewrite '%25' in url

    My website software replaces space characters with '+' characters in the URL, A proper link would look like 'http://www.schirmacher.de/display/INFO/How+to+reattach+a+disk+to+XenServer' for example. Some websites link to that article but somehow their embedded editor can't handle the encoding, so what I see in the httpd log files is actually GET /display/INFO/How%2525252bto%2525252breattach%2525252ba%2525252bdisk%2525252bto%2525252bXenServer which of course leads to a 404 error. It seems that the '+' character is encoded as '%2b' and then the '%' character is encoded as '%25' - several times. Since there are many such references to different pages from different websites, I would like to rewrite the url so that the visitors get the correct page. Here's my attempt which does not work: RewriteRule ^(.*)%25(.*)$ $1%$2 [R=301] What it is supposed to do is: take everything before the %25 string and everything after it, concat those strings with a '%' in between, then redirect. With the example input URL the rule should rewrite to /display/INFO/How%25252bto%2525252breattach%2525252ba%2525252bdisk%2525252bto%2525252bXenServer followed by a redirect, then it should rewrite to /display/INFO/How%252bto%2525252breattach%2525252ba%2525252bdisk%2525252bto%2525252bXenServer and again to /display/INFO/How%2bto%2525252breattach%2525252ba%2525252bdisk%2525252bto%2525252bXenServer and so on. Finally, after a lot of redirects I should have left /display/INFO/How%2bto%2breattach%2ba%2bdisk%2bto%2bXenServer which is a valid url equivalent to /display/INFO/How+to+reattach+a+disk+to+XenServer. My problem is that the expression does not match at all, so it does not even replace a single occurrence of %25. I understand that there is a limit in the number of redirects and I should really use the [N] flag however I don't even get the first step right.

    We have an external USB 2 drive that we are using as a backup drive for our configuration. We use rsnapshot for the backups.   • Why does my Canon printer print document pages at ~25% size?

    I'm using a Canon PIXMA MP250, and I'm running 12.04 LTS. The printer's been working fine for the couple of months I've been a Linux user. That is, until today. I just printed a 1-page ODT document from LibreOffice. Instead of filling the sheet, the document occupies only a little less than 25% of the paper, in the top left corner, and the text has also shrunk to something like 5pt. I looked at the paper format settings for the document and printer, which were set to "letter". I changed these to "A4", hoping that would solve the issue. There was no change, however. I tried printing a different document in LibreOffice and got the same result. I tried exporting the original document to PDF and printing it through Document Viewer. Same result. I then printed a web page from Google Chrome. No formatting problems there. In all cases the print preview looks fine.

  • 25 years old and considering a career change...possible? practical?

    Hi all, I'm new to this site and new to programming as well. I've spent some time going through an intro cs book that uses python as the language of choice. I find the exercises interesting and engaging and I generally have had a favorable experience programming so far. I've gone through some of the basics with python like writing simple programs, basics of GUIs, manipulating strings, lists, defining functions, etc. And I've always loved technology. Although I've never done any real hardcore programming yet, I was inclined to building websites from a very young age but I never really developed my skills. Now, the thing is I'm 25, I have my bacholors in environmental studies and two masters degrees in urban planning and landscape architecture respectively. I know, it would be quite a departure to pursue a career in programming at this point. Currently, I'm working as a geographic information systems intern. I've taken some GIS classes and have a lot of experience with making maps, doing spatial analysis etc. So what I'm thinking is maybe I can learn some solid programming skills and apply these skills in the field of GIS. From what I've seen, .net languages are the norm in this arena. Could you perhaps provide some guidance to me in terms of what languages I should focus on or courses I should take at this point? What about for building web mapping applications? Also, I was thinking about getting a certificate in programming from a university extension program. Do you think it would be worth it? And furthermore, do you think potential employers would be interested in hiring someone like me (once I get a couple of languages down pretty well) as an intern or in an entry level position? I'll be living in the bay area so I feel that there should be decent opportunities even though I don't have a b.s. in cs.

  • Postfix Submission port issue

    I have setup postfix+mailman on my debian server and i have an issue with postfix submission port. My ISP blocks SMTP on port 25 to prevent *spams and i must to use submission port (587).   • Uninstalling MySQL for MariaDB Replacement on cPanel

    Well the first part of my day was spent researching how to remove MySQL to install MariaDB and the second part of my day was spent trying to reinstall MySQL cause something was messed up. So now I come to the masses for some help. I have a box with cPanel/WHM on it. CentOS 5.6 64 bit. I have upgraded (through WHM) MySQL to 5.5.24 and that was successful. After some research, the options I found were an intimidating Linux command with pipes greps and dashes, and another command yum remove mysql I tried that out and it appeared to remove mysql.....ish.   • my server suddenly crashes every 2 days or so. Programmer has no idea, please help find the cause, here is the top

    Every couple of days my server suddenly crashes and I must request hardware reset at data center to get it back running. Today I came back to my shell and saw the server was dead and "top" was running on it, and see below for the "top" right before the crash. I opened /var/log/messages and scrolled to the reboot time and see nothing, no errors prior to the hard reboot. (I checked in /etc/syslog.conf and I see "*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none /var/log/messages" , isn't this good enough to log all problems?) Usually when I look at the top, the swap is never used up like this! I also don't know why mysqld is at 323% cpu (server only runs drupal and its never slow or overloaded). Solver is my application. I don't know whats that 'sh' doing and 'dovecot' doing. I'm trying to install Ubuntu Cloud setup on VMWare using the package from http://download.ubuntu.com and have this basic installation setup issue as per the below image. file:///cdrom/pool/main/k/klibc/klibc-utils_1.5.25-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb was corrupt The issue is I cannot continue by skipping this as you know this happens to be the most important setup. How can I fix this? Help is sincerely appreciated.

  • As a newbie, where should I go if I want to create a small GUI program?

    Hello, I'm a newbie with a little experience writing in BASIC, Python and, of all things, a smidgeon of assembler (as part of a videogame ROM hack). I wanted to create small tool for modifying the hex values at particular points, in a particular file, that would have a GUI interface. What I'm looking for is the ability to create small GUI program, that I can distribute as an EXE (or, at least a standalone directory). I'm not keen on the idea of the .NET languages, because I don't want to force people to download a massive .NET framework package. I currently have Python with IDLE and Boa Constructor set up, and the application runs there. I've tried looking up information on compiling a python app that relies on Wxwidgets, but the search results and the information I've found has been confusing, or just completely incomprehensible. My questions are: Is python a good language to use for this sort of project? If I use Py2Exe, will WxWidgets already be included? Or will my users have to somehow install WxWidgets on their machines? Am I right in thinking at Py2Exe just produces a standalone directory, 'dist', that has the necessary files for the user to just double click and run the application? If the program just relies upon Tkinter for GUI stuff, will that be included in the EXE Py2Exe produces? If so, are their any 'visual' GUI builders / IDEs for Python with only Tkinter? Packets going from A - B is part of the same conversations as packets going from B - A. I need to perform a query to show the on going conversations. Basically what I need is something that looks like this: Returned Query: SrcAddress SrcPort DestAddress DestPort TotalBytes BytesA->B BytesB->A 10.0.25.1 255 10.0.25.50 500 208 112 96 75.48.0.25 387 74.26.9.40 198 136 72 64 As you can see I need the query (or series of queries) to recognize that A-B is the same as B-A and break up the byte counts accordingly. I'm not a SQL guru by any means but any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    I am building an application that will be acting as a combined MUA/MTA on different networks. However, many of the networks are with ISP's that block port 25 for SMTP. Therefore I would also like to open up a secondary port so that some of the installs can communicate on that if port 25 is closed. How do I choose a second port? I know some people use port 26 or port 2525. What is the correct way to choose a port that won't interfere with existing software?
