  • Localizing concatenated or dynamic strings

    - by SooDesuNe
    I'm familiar with using NSLocalizedString() to localize strings, but the problem I have today requires a little more finesse. My situation is like this: NSString *userName; //the users name, entered by the user. Does not need localized NSString *favoriteFood; //the users favorite food, also entered by user, and not needing localized NSString *summary = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@'s favorite food is %@", userName, favoriteFood]; This works fine for english, but not every language uses the same word ordering as English, for example, a word-by-word translation of the same sentance from Japanese into English would read: UserName's favorite food pizza is Not to mention that 's is doesn't make a possessive in every language. What techniques are available for localizing this type of concatenated sentence?

  • Problem with writeData

    - by zp26
    Hi, I have a problem with my code. I want to create a XML file like this: <name>myName<name> <x>myX<x> <y>myY<y> <z>myZ<z> but my file is: <name>myName<name><x>myX<x><y>myY<y><z>myZ<z> Can i have this text formatting? This is my code: -(void)salvataggioInXML:(NSString*)name:(float)x:(float)y:(float)z{ NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectoryPath = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *filePath = [documentsDirectoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"filePosizioni.xml"]; NSFileHandle *myHandle = [NSFileHandle fileHandleForUpdatingAtPath:filePath]; [myHandle seekToEndOfFile]; NSString *tagName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<name>%@<name>", name]; NSString *tagX = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<x>%f<x>", name]; NSString *tagY = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<y>%f<y>", name]; NSString *tagZ = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<z>%f<z>", name]; NSData* dataName = [tagName dataUsingEncoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding]; NSData* dataX = [tagX dataUsingEncoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding]; NSData* dataY = [tagY dataUsingEncoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding]; NSData* dataZ = [tagZ dataUsingEncoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding]; [myHandle writeData:dataName]; NSLog(@"writeok"); [myHandle seekToEndOfFile]; [myHandle writeData:dataX]; NSLog(@"writeok"); [myHandle seekToEndOfFile]; [myHandle writeData:dataY]; NSLog(@"writeok"); [myHandle seekToEndOfFile]; [myHandle writeData:dataZ]; NSLog(@"writeok"); [myHandle seekToEndOfFile]; NSLog(@"zp26 %@",filePath); }

  • How to limit NSTextField text length and keep it always upper case?

    - by carlosb
    Need to have an NSTextField with a text limit of 4 characters maximum and show always in upper case but can't figure out a good way of achieving that. I've tried to do it through a binding with a validation method but the validation only gets called when the control loses first responder and that's no good. Temporarly I made it work by observing the notification NSControlTextDidChangeNotification on the text field and having it call the method: - (void)textDidChange:(NSNotification*)notification { NSTextField* textField = [notification object]; NSString* value = [textField stringValue]; if ([value length] > 4) { [textField setStringValue:[[value uppercaseString] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0, 4)]]; } else { [textField setStringValue:[value uppercaseString]]; } } But this surely isn't the best way of doing it. Any better suggestion?

  • "The binary you uploaded was invalid. the file was not a valid zip file" Error message uploading app

    - by Keith Loughnane
    Hi, I'm trying to upload an iPhone app binary to iTunesConnect and keep getting the following error message "The binary you upload was invalid. the file was not a valid zip file". I had an app upload ok recently but this app is having problems. So after a while I carefully went through the following steps trying to make sure everything was ok. Any help is appreciated. The steps: renamed the project (Project-Rename... enter name into Rename project to:) to release name making sure the name has no spaces. Cleaned project Make sure references in build setting reflect new app name Create new app ID matching project name in iPhone Provisioning Portal Destroyed old developer and distributer provisioning profiles in Provisioning Portal, in XCode and on iPhone. Create new development provisioning profile using new app name. Install development provisioning profile into XCode 8) Build (Release) for iPhone OS 3.1.3 (highest my phone will upgrade to, I'm assuming current released version) Builds, Installs and Runs on actual iPhone: To me this implys App and developer ID's are OK. Create a distributor provisioning profile using existing Distributer ID. Install distributer ID into XCode Clean Checked that "Code Signing Identity" and "Any iPhone OS Device" lines in Build settings are set to Distributor ID Build for release for OS 3.1.3 Check Build results to make sure code is signed with Distributor Profile Reveal .app file and compress (alt click Compress "appName.app") Upload to iTunes connect Gives "The binary you uploaded was invalid. The file was not a valid zip file"

  • How do I get a UIView to appear instantly?

    - by matsgrip
    I'm trying to create an activity indicator in iPhone app. The problem is that I cannot get it to appear before the actual task i want it to diplay during is already done. Is there something funky about the order in which the iPhone does stuff? Here is my problematic code (in my app delegate): -(BOOL)showProgressView: (NSString *) message { self.progress = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:window.frame]; UIImageView *img = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"squircle.png"]]; [img setAlpha:0.5]; [img setFrame:CGRectMake(94, 173, 133, 133)]; UIActivityIndicatorView *spinner = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(51.5, 51.5, 30, 30)]; spinner.activityIndicatorViewStyle = UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhiteLarge; [img addSubview:spinner]; [self.progress addSubview:img]; [spinner startAnimating]; [img release]; [spinner release]; [window addSubview:self.progress]; return YES; } I then call this code like this: if ([appDelegate showProgressView:@"Loading..:"]) { //My actual code loads data and stuff here but that is not important //drawCtrl is a UIViewController subclass that is instantiated here UINavigationController *navController = [appDelegate navigationController]; [navController pushViewController:drawCtrl animated:YES]; [drawCtrl release]; } The problem is that my activity indicator does not appear until the new view controller is pushed onto the navController's stack. Can I control this in some way? Thanks in advance! -Mats

  • MPMusicPlayerController stops sending notifications

    - by jasongullickson
    I have a MPMusicPlayerController playing the entire iPod library and I'm subscribed to the notifications when tracks change etc. This is all working correctly When the end of the playlist is reached, MPMusicPlayerController sends a change of state notification and stops. When I re-start the player, music begins to play again but MPMusicPlayerController no longer sends notifications when tracks change, etc. Thoughts?

  • Clear UITextField when standard number pad is pressed

    - by Manu
    Hi all, I'm sorry if I didn't explain my problem well enough in the title. In my application, I'm using a small subview to create a very basic calculator on the top side of the screen (I just have an UITextField to show the operations and two buttons). Instead of using a custom keyboard for it, I want to use the standard iPhone number pad. My problem is that after doing an operation (e.g. adding two numbers) and showing the result, I cannot figure out how to clear the screen when the user enters a new number. So, for example: User enters "6" - Number 6 is shown in UITextField User selects "+" - UITextField is cleared to make room for the next number User enters "10" - Number 10 is shown in UITextField User selects "+" - 16 is shown as the result of the previous operation, and should stay there until another number is pressed (he wants to continue adding more numbers) User enters "5" At this point, if I was using a custom keyboard, I could clear the UITextField as soon as the button "5" is pressed by the user, but I cannot figure out how to do so when using the standard number pad. So, the result I get at the moment is "165". Is there a way to detect when a key is pressed in the standard number pad so that I can clear the UITextField before the new number appears? I thought there may be a NSNotification for that, but I couldn't find it. I'm aware that I could solve my problem if I created a custom keyboard or if I used two separated UITextFields (one for the operations and another one for the total), but I would like to use the standard number pad if it's possible. Thanks very much!

  • Text encoding problem between NSImage, NSData, and NSXMLDocument

    - by andyvn22
    I'm attempting to take an NSImage and convert it to a string which I can write in an XML document. My current attempt looks something like this: [xmlDocument setCharacterEncoding: @"US-ASCII"]; NSData* data = [image TIFFRepresentation]; NSString* string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; //Put string inside of NSXMLElement, write out NSXMLDocument. Reading back in looks something like this: NSXMLDocument* newXMLDocument = [[NSXMLDocument alloc] initWithData:data options:0 error:outError]; //Here's where it fails. I get: //Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=9 UserInfo=0x100195310 "Line 7: Char 0x0 out of allowed range" I assume I'm missing something basic. What's up with this encoding issue?

  • NSScanner scanFloat returning unexpected results

    - by E-Madd
    I'm trying to build a UIColor from a comma-delimited list of values for RGB, which is "0.45,0.53,0.65", represented here by the colorConfig object... NSScanner *scanner = [NSScanner scannerWithString:colorConfig]; [scanner setCharactersToBeSkipped:[NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"\n, "]]; float red, green, blue; return [UIColor colorWithRed:[scanner scanFloat:&red] green:[scanner scanFloat:&green] blue:[scanner scanFloat:&blue] alpha:1]; But my color is always coming back as black. So I logged the values to my console and I'm seeing Red = -1.988804, Green = -1.988800, Blue = -1.988796 What am I doing wrong?

  • iPhone: understanding field crash reports: unrecognized selector?

    - by quixoto
    Hi all, A user of my app out in the field seems to having bad crash-at-app-start issues. I got him to send me the .crash files from his PC. After "symbolicating" them according to this article, I get what looks from the stack like a unrecognized selector fail. But the top line of code corresponding to my process is an unambiguous message send that gets executed hundreds of times without issue in my app normally. Needless to say, I never repro this issue myself. Can the crash report lie? Could this stack indicate anything besides unrecognized selector? Thanks for any insight. • What's a good way to remove all of the subviews of a UIScrollView?

    - by Moshe
    I have a scroll view and I need to reload the contents often while my app is running. Right now, I'm using the following line of code to remove the subviews before adding them back again: [scrollView.subviews makeObjectsPerformSelector:@selector(removeFromSuperview)]; Should I be using the following instead? scrollView.subviews = nil; For some reason, the (first) above line of code seems to crash the app every 16 times it is run. Am I leaking memory somewhere? The following method takes an array of views, the scroller (which is a constant) and the direction. Edit: - (void)loadViews:(NSArray *)views IntoScroller:(UIScrollView *)scroller withDirection:(NSString *)direction{ //Set up the scrollView [scrollView.subviews makeObjectsPerformSelector:@selector(removeFromSuperview)]; if([direction isEqualToString:@"horizontal"]){ scrollView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768); scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * [[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] floatValue], scrollView.frame.size.height); }else if([direction isEqualToString:@"vertical"]){ scrollView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768); scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height * [[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] floatValue]); } for (int i=0; i<[[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] intValue]; i++) { [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:scrollView.frame]; if([direction isEqualToString:@"horizontal"]){ [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:CGRectMake(i * [[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view].frame.size.width, 0, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)];//CGRectMake(i * announcementView.view.frame.size.width, -scrollView.frame.origin.x, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)]; }else if([direction isEqualToString:@"vertical"]){ [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, i * [[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view].frame.size.height, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)]; } [scrollView addSubview:[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view]]; } }

  • NSTableView Drag and Drop not working

    - by macatomy
    Hi, I'm trying to set up very basic drag and drop for my NSTableView. The table view has a single column (with a custom cell). The column is bound to an NSArrayController, and the array controller's content array is bound to an NSArray on my controller object. The data displays fine in the table. I connected the dataSource and delegate outlets of the table view to my controller object, and then implemented these methods: - (BOOL)tableView:(NSTableView *)aTableView writeRowsWithIndexes:(NSIndexSet *)rowIndexes toPasteboard:(NSPasteboard *)pboard { NSLog(@"dragging"); return YES; } - (NSDragOperation)tableView:(NSTableView*)tv validateDrop:(id <NSDraggingInfo>)info proposedRow:(NSInteger)row proposedDropOperation:(NSTableViewDropOperation)op { return NSDragOperationEvery; } - (BOOL)tableView:(NSTableView *)aTableView acceptDrop:(id <NSDraggingInfo>)info row:(NSInteger)row dropOperation:(NSTableViewDropOperation)operation { return YES; } I also registered the drag types in -awakeFromNib: #define MyDragType @"MyDragType" - (void)awakeFromNib { [super awakeFromNib]; [_myTable registerForDraggedTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:MyDragType, nil]]; } The problem is that the -tableView:writeRowsWithIndexes:toPasteboard: method is never called. I've looked at a bunch of examples and I can't figure out anything I'm doing wrong. Could the problem be that I'm using a custom cell? Is there something I'm supposed to override in the cell subclass to enable this functionality? EDIT: Confirmed. Switching the custom cell for a regular NSTextFieldCell made dragging work. Now, how do I make drag and drop work with my custom cell?

  • UIView Animation iPhone (obtaining information on the frame dynamically)

    - by Urizen
    I have a UIView called goalBar which is being animated by increasing the size of the frame according to a float value called destination: CGRect goalBarRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, destination, 29); [UIView beginAnimations:@"goal" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseIn]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:2.0f]; goalBar.frame = goalBarRect; [UIView commitAnimations]; The animation works perfectly and the rectangular view increases its width over the course of the animation (from 0 to the value for destination). However, I wish to be able to extract the values for the frame of the UIView being animated (i.e. goalBar) as the animation takes place. By that I mean that I wish to place the value of the width for the animated frame in a separate UILabel so that the user sees a counter that provides the width of the UIView as it's being animated. Any help on how to do the above would be gratefully received.

  • How to merge two FBOs?

    - by DevDevDev
    OK so I have 4 buffers, 3 FBOs and a render buffer. Let me explain. I have a view FBO, which will store the scene before I render it to the render buffer. I have a background buffer, which contains the background of the scene. I have a user buffer, which the user manipulates. When the user makes some action I draw to the user buffer, using some blending. Then to redraw the whole scene what I want to do is clear the view buffer, draw the background buffer to the view buffer, change the blending, then draw the user buffer to the view buffer. Finally render the view buffer to the render buffer. However I can't figure out how to draw a FBO to another FBO. What I want to do is essentially merge and blend two FBOs, but I can't figure out how! I'm very new to OpenGL ES, so thanks for all the help.

  • Core Data Relationship problem

    - by awattar
    I have a very simple model with two objects: Name and Category. One Name can be in many Categories (it's one way relationship). I'm trying to create 8 Categories every with 8 Names. Example code: NSMutableArray *localArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithObjects: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g1", @"Name", @"g1", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g2", @"Name", @"g2", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g3", @"Name", @"g3", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g4", @"Name", @"g4", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g5", @"Name", @"g5", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g6", @"Name", @"g6", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g7", @"Name", @"g7", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g8", @"Name", @"g8", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], nil]; NSMutableArray *localArray2 = [NSMutableArray arrayWithObjects: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test1", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test2", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test3", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test4", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test5", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test6", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test7", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test8", @"Name", nil], nil]; NSError *error; NSManagedObjectContext *moc = [(AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; for(NSMutableDictionary *item in localArray) { NSManagedObject *category = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Category" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Name"]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Icon"] forKey:@"Icon"]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Male"] forKey:@"Male"]; for(NSMutableDictionary *item2 in localArray2) { NSManagedObject *name = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Name" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [name setValue:[item2 objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Name"]; [[name mutableSetValueForKey:@"CategoryRelationship"] addObject:category]; } } [moc save:&error]; And here's a problem - i've checked that 8 Categories are saved, 64 Names are saved but only 8 from all Names are connected with any category. So when i query for Names in Categories [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"CategoryRelationship.@count != 0"] there are 8 elements and when [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"CategoryRelationship.@count = 0"] there are 56 elements. What is going one here?

  • How do I integrate popToRootViewControllerAnimated with my tabs?

    - by Adam Storr
    Hello! I am trying to make one of my tab buttons go to the root using popToRootViewControllerAnimated. My question is: where do I put this code for it to work? I have my tabs created through Interface Builder... do they have to be hard coded for this to work? Here is the code that I'm looking to use: [self.navigationController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:YES]; New code in AppDelegate: - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { if (viewController = HomeViewController) { [HomeViewController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:NO]; } }

  • UITableViewCell checkmark change on select

    - by user333673
    Am I correct in thinking that to change the checkmark for "on" to "off", I must change the CellAccessoryType between none and checkmark on the didSelectRowAtIndexPath? Because I have done this but I have noticed the behaviour is not perfectly identical to like the checkmark cells on the auto lock settings on the iphone. Or is there some other way checkmarks are meant to be handled?
