  Hi, how can I "copy" the selected option between two s that have the same options using prototype ? I tried getting the selected option from the "master" combo using function getSelectedArea() { $$('#areacont1 option').find(function(ele){return !!ele.selected}) } which returns null And setting the second combo using var c2ROptions = $$('select#areacont2 option') c2ROptions[getSelectedArea()].selected = true That obviously doesn't work because the function returns null. We have been able to accomplish this in Firefox, but it doesn't appear to be supported at all in IE. From what I've read, IE won't support this. • IE font size decrease does not cause select box height to decrease

  I have a font resize function on my page which increases the font size via javascript for the entire page. This works fine in most browsers except IE. When decreasing the font size after increasing it, the select boxes new height does not decrease, even though the font size is decreasing on it. Instead the smaller font appears to be padded with white space. Any ideas as to what IE is doing here, and a work around?

  I am having a problem with an OSQA site. It is Django/Apache/mod_wsgi configured site. Every hour, the CPU spikes to 164% (Average) for task HTTPD. After 10 minutes, it frees back up. I have reviewed the logs, cron tables, made many config changes, but cannot track this problem down. Can someone please look at the information below and let me know if it is a configuration problem, or if anyone else has experienced this issue. Running TOP shows HTTPD using 165% of CPU VMware performance monitor also displays spikes. This happens every hour for 10 minutes. (english, russian) work perfectly. I know it's something with character-set, but I tried all kind of settings and it didn't work. For now it's latin-1. LIKE works I'm pretty much sure that any weird language like arabic etc won't work...

  Hi, I read the mysql table lengths questions on stackoverflow on here: questions/391323/table-comment-length-in-mysql questions/2473934/how-to-increase-mysql-table-comments-length The first link suggests that it can be done and the second suggests it cannot. I don't know why there is this limitation as the comments are very useful. Imagine if there was a limit of 60 characters for your programs. I wrote about this on my site and have some snapshots to the phpmyadmin and Dbforge MySQL IDEs: http://mysql.tutorialref.com/mysql-table-comment-length-limit.html Is there a way to change this in phpmyadmin or perhaps even on the CLI? There is a bug commit report from MySQL on this particular problem (follow the link from the stackoverflow (first link). It seems to state that the length problem is fixed. I have MySQL 5.1.42. • Mysql performance problem & Failed DIMM

  Hi I have a dedicated mysql database server which has been having some performance problems recently, under normal load the server will be running fine, then suddenly out of the blue the performance will fall off a cliff. The server isn't using the swap file and there is 12GB of RAM in the server, more than enough for its needs. After contacting my hosting comapnies support they have discovered that there is a failed 2GB DIMM in the server and have scheduled to replace it tomorow morning. My question is could a failed DIMM result in the performance problems I am seeing or is this just coincidence? My worry is that they will replace the ram tomorrow but the problems will persist and I will still be lost of explanations so I am just trying to think ahead. The reason I ask is that there is plenty of RAM in the server, more than required and simply missing 2GB should be a problem, so if this failed DIMM is causing these performance problems then the OS must be trying to access the failed DIMM and slowing down as a result. Does that sound like a credible explanation?   Hi, I'm trying to make a SELECT on three relational tables like these ones: table_materials -> material_id - material_name table_props -> prop_id - prop_name table_materials_props - row_id -> material_id -> prop_id - prop_value On my page, I'd like to get a result like this one but i have some problem with the query: material prop A prop B prop C prop D prop E wood 350 NULL NULL 84 16 iron NULL 17 NULL NULL 201 copper 548 285 99 NULL NULL so the query should return something like: material prop_name prop_value wood prop A 350 wood prop B NULL wood prop C NULL wood prop D 84 wood prop E 16 // and go on with others rows i thought to use something like: SELECT * FROM table_materials AS m INNER JOIN table_materials_props AS mp ON m.material_id = mp.material_id INNER JOIN table_materials_props AS p ON mp.prop_id = p.prop_id ORDER BY p.prop_name the problem is the query doesn't return the NULL values, and I need the same prop order for all the materials regardless of prop values are NULL or not I hope this example is clear!

• Views performance in MySQL for denormalization

  I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself? (I need this to have a list of users and the functionality to filter them by role). EDIT Specifically what i'm trying to obtain is Denormalization of three tables into one. Is my solution correct? • mysql UNION query not working

  What am I doing wrong with this: $sql = "SELECT * FROM content WHERE threadName LIKE '%$filter%' ORDER BY lastUpdated desc UNION SELECT * FROM content WHERE threadName NOT LIKE '%$filter%' ORDER BY lastUpdated desc"; The first statement before the UNION works well on its own, but this one above returns: mysql_fetch_array() warning - supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource Am I right in believing that UNION will not return duplicate entries, in which case the second SELECT statement doesn't need to have the NOT LIKE but will just return everything that wasn't listed in the first statement.
