  • What would be the good name for this operation?

    - by Rogach
I see that Scala standard library misses the method to get ranges of objects in the collection, that satisfy the predicate: def <???>(p: A => Boolean): List[List[A]] = { val buf = collection.mutable.ListBuffer[List[A]]() var elems = this.dropWhile(e => !p(e)) while (elems.nonEmpty) { buf += elems.takeWhile(p) elems = elems.dropWhile(e => !p(e)) } buf.toList } What would be the good name for such method? And is my implementation good enough?

  • Are Maybes a good pattern for scala?

    - by Fred Haslam
For a while I have been struggling to integrate scala with java methods that might return null. I came up with the following utility which helps a lot: // produce an Option, nulls become None object Maybe { def apply[T](t:T) = if (t==null) None else Some(t) } Maybe(javaClass.getResultCouldBeNull()).map( result => doSomeWork(result) ) I have a few questions about this solution: Is there a better or more standard pattern to use? Am I duplicating something that already exists? Does this functionality have hidden gotchas?

  • How to remove adornments like [exec] when using groovy's AntBuilder

    - by Miguel Pardal
Hi! I'm using Groovy's AntBuilder to execute Ant tasks: def ant = new AntBuilder() ant.sequential { ant.exec(executable: "cmd", dir: "..", resultproperty: "exec-ret-code") { arg(value: "/c") arg(line: "dir") } } The output lines are prefixed by: [exec] Using Ant on the command line, this is turned off by "emacs mode" ant -emacs ... Is there a way to switch to emacs mode using AntBuilder?

  • Queuing methods to be run on an object by different threads in Python

    - by Ben
Let's say I have an object who's class definition looks like: class Command: foo = 5 def run(self, bar): time.sleep(1) self.foo = bar return self.foo If this class is instantiated once, but different threads are hitting its run method (via an HTTP request, handled separately) passing in different args, what is the best method to queue them? Can this be done in the class definition itself?

  • SelectList in Asp-mvc and data from the database

    - by George
Hello guys. I'm having some troubles with SelectList in ASP.MVC. Here is the issue: I have a Create View and begind a ViewModel model. The page load just fine (GET verb). But when posting, something happens, and my model is considered invalid, and it cannot insert. Here's what i've tried so far. public class DefinitionFormViewModel { private Repository<Category> categoryRepository = new Repository<Category>(); public Definition ViewDefinition { get; private set; } public SelectList Categories { get; private set; } public DefinitionFormViewModel(Definition def) { ViewDefinition = def; // here i wanted to place it directly, like shown in NerdDinner Tutorial // new SelectList(categoryRepository.All(),ViewDefinition.Category); Categories = new SelectList(categoryRepository.All(), "CategoryId", "CategoryName", ViewDefinition.CategoryId); } } // pageview which inherits DefinitionFormViewModel <div class=editor-field"> <%= Html.DropDownList("Category",Model.Categories) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => Model.ViewDefinition.Category) %> </div> // controller methods [Authorize] public ActionResult Create() { Definition definition = new Definition(); return View(new DefinitionFormViewModel(definition)); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post), Authorize] public ActionResult Create(int id,Definition definition) { Term term = termRepository.SingleOrDefault(t => t.TermId == id); if (term == null) { return View("NotFound", new NotFoundModel("Termo não encontrado", "Termo não encontrado", "Nos desculpe, mas não conseguimos encontrar o termo solicitado.", "Indíce de Termos", "Index", "Term")); } else { if (ModelState.IsValid) { try { definition.TermId = term.TermId; definition.ResponsibleUser = User.Identity.Name; UpdateModel(definition); term.Definitions.Add(definition); termRepository.SaveAll(); return RedirectToAction("Details", "Term", new { id = term.TermId }); } catch (System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException sqlEx) { ModelState.AddModelError("DatabaseError", "Houve um erro na inserção desta nova definição"); } catch { foreach (RuleViolation rv in definition.GetRuleViolations()) { ModelState.AddModelError(rv.PropertyName, rv.ErrorMessage); } } } } return View(new DefinitionFormViewModel(definition)); } I'm sorry about the long post, but I cant figure this out. I got no graphic errors or exceptions. My execution terminates in if (ModelState.IsValid). Thanks for your time George

  • "Can't mass-assign protected attributes" with nested protected models

    - by JohnnyFive
    I'm having a hell of a time trying to get this nested model working. I've tried all manner of pluralization/singular, removing the attr_accessible altogether, and who knows what else. restaurant.rb: # == RESTAURANT MODEL # # Table name: restaurants # # id :integer not null, primary key # name :string(255) # created_at :datetime not null # updated_at :datetime not null # class Restaurant < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :job_attributes has_many :jobs has_many :users, :through => :jobs has_many :positions accepts_nested_attributes_for :jobs, :allow_destroy => true validates :name, presence: true end job.rb: # == JOB MODEL # # Table name: jobs # # id :integer not null, primary key # restaurant_id :integer # shortname :string(255) # user_id :integer # created_at :datetime not null # updated_at :datetime not null # class Job < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :restaurant_id, :shortname, :user_id belongs_to :user belongs_to :restaurant has_many :shifts validates :name, presence: false end restaurants_controller.rb: class RestaurantsController < ApplicationController before_filter :logged_in, only: [:new_restaurant] def new @restaurant = Restaurant.new @user = current_user end def create @restaurant = Restaurant.new(params[:restaurant]) if @restaurant.save flash[:success] = "Restaurant created." redirect_to welcome_path end end end new.html.erb: <% provide(:title, 'Restaurant') %> <%= form_for @restaurant do |f| %> <%= render 'shared/error_messages' %> <%= f.label "Restaurant Name" %> <%= f.text_field :name %> <%= f.fields_for :job do |child_f| %> <%= child_f.label "Nickname" %> <%= child_f.text_field :shortname %> <% end %> <%= f.submit "Done", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary" %> <% end %> Output Parameters: {"utf8"=>"?", "authenticity_token"=>"DjYvwkJeUhO06ds7bqshHsctS1M/Dth08rLlP2yQ7O0=", "restaurant"=>{"name"=>"The Pink Door", "job"=>{"shortname"=>"PD"}}, "commit"=>"Done"} The error i'm receiving is: ActiveModel::MassAssignmentSecurity::Error in RestaurantsController#create Cant mass-assign protected attributes: job Rails.root: /home/johnnyfive/Dropbox/Projects/sa Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace app/controllers/restaurants_controller.rb:11:in `new' app/controllers/restaurants_controller.rb:11:in `create' Anyone have ANY clue how to get this to work? I have a generated domain class (Person) and its generated controller, using the automatic Grails scaffold: package contacts class PersonController { def scaffold = Person } Now I'd like to get a JSON representation of a Person object. Do I have to change the view or the controller? And how? Thank you.

  • Rails 3 HTTP digest authentication

    - by Cimm
Is HTTP digest authentication still supported in Rails 3? I tried the following code in Rails 2.3.5, it works. class Admin::BaseController < ApplicationController before_filter :authenticate USERS = { "lifo" => "world" } def authenticate authenticate_or_request_with_http_digest("Application") do |name| USERS[name] end end end Now, the same thing in Rails 3.0.0.beta) returns an error: can't convert nil into String Am I missing something or is this a bug in Rails 3? HTTP basic authentication works fine.

  • Optimizing tasks to reduce CPU in a trading application

    - by Joel
Hello, I have designed a trading application that handles customers stocks investment portfolio. I am using two datastore kinds: Stocks - Contains unique stock name and its daily percent change. UserTransactions - Contains information regarding a specific purchase of a stock made by a user : the value of the purchase along with a reference to Stock for the current purchase. db.Model python modules: class Stocks (db.Model): stockname = db.StringProperty(multiline=True) dailyPercentChange=db.FloatProperty(default=1.0) class UserTransactions (db.Model): buyer = db.UserProperty() value=db.FloatProperty() stockref = db.ReferenceProperty(Stocks) Once an hour I need to update the database: update the daily percent change in Stocks and then update the value of all entities in UserTransactions that refer to that stock. The following python module iterates over all the stocks, update the dailyPercentChange property, and invoke a task to go over all UserTransactions entities which refer to the stock and update their value: Stocks.py # Iterate over all stocks in datastore for stock in Stocks.all(): # update daily percent change in datastore db.run_in_transaction(updateStockTxn, stock.key()) # create a task to update all user transactions entities referring to this stock taskqueue.add(url='/task', params={'stock_key': str(stock.key(), 'value' : self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock') }) def updateStockTxn(stock_key): #fetch the stock again - necessary to avoid concurrency updates stock = db.get(stock_key) stock.dailyPercentChange= data.get('some_val_for_stock') # I get this value from outside ... some more calculations here ... stock.put() Task.py (/task) # Amount of transaction per task amountPerCall=10 stock=db.get(self.request.get("stock_key")) # Get all user transactions which point to current stock user_transaction_query=stock.usertransactions_set cursor=self.request.get("cursor") if cursor: user_transaction_query.with_cursor(cursor) # Spawn another task if more than 10 transactions are in datastore transactions = user_transaction_query.fetch(amountPerCall) if len(transactions)==amountPerCall: taskqueue.add(url='/task', params={'stock_key': str(stock.key(), 'value' : self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock'), 'cursor': user_transaction_query.cursor() }) # Iterate over all transaction pointing to stock and update their value for transaction in transactions: db.run_in_transaction(updateUserTransactionTxn, transaction.key()) def updateUserTransactionTxn(transaction_key): #fetch the transaction again - necessary to avoid concurrency updates transaction = db.get(transaction_key) transaction.value= transaction.value* self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock') db.put(transaction) The problem: Currently the system works great, but the problem is that it is not scaling well… I have around 100 Stocks with 300 User Transactions, and I run the update every hour. In the dashboard, I see that the task.py takes around 65% of the CPU (Stock.py takes around 20%-30%) and I am using almost all of the 6.5 free CPU hours given to me by app engine. I have no problem to enable billing and pay for additional CPU, but the problem is the scaling of the system… Using 6.5 CPU hours for 100 stocks is very poor. I was wondering, given the requirements of the system as mentioned above, if there is a better and more efficient implementation (or just a small change that can help with the current implemntation) than the one presented here. Thanks!! Joel

  • Matching strings

    - by Joy
Write the function subStringMatchExact. This function takes two arguments: a target string, and a key string. It should return a tuple of the starting points of matches of the key string in the target string, when indexing starts at 0. Complete the definition for def subStringMatchExact(target, key): For example, subStringMatchExact("atgacatgcacaagtatgcat","atgc") would return the tuple (5, 15).

  • What arguments do I send a function being called by a button in python?

    - by Jared
I have a UI, in that UI is 4 text fields and 1 int field, then I have a function that calls to another function based on what's inside of the text fields, this function has (self, *args). My function that is being called to takes five arguments and I don't know what to put in it to make it actually work with my UI because python button's send an argument of their own. I have tried self and *args, but it doesn't work. Here is my code, didn't include most of the UI code since it is self explanatory: def crBC(self, IKJoint, FKJoint, bindJoint, xQuan, switch): ''' You should have a controller with an attribute 'ikFkBlend' - The name can be changed after the script executes. Controller should contain an enum - FK/DYN(0), IK(1). Specify the IK joint, then either the dynamic or FK joint, then the bind joint. Then a quantity of joints to pass through and connect. Tested currently on 600 joints (200 x 3), executed in less than a second. Returns nothing. Please open your script editor for details.
