  • Simplify my menu animation code

    I've got a bunch of 'project' divs that I want to expand when they're clicked on. If there's already a project open, I want to hide it before I slide out the new one. I also want to stop clicks on an already open project from closing and then opening it again. Here's an example of what I mean (warning - wrote the code in the browser): $('.projects').click(function() { var clicked_project = $(this); if (clicked_project.is(':visible')) { clicked_project.height(10).slideUp(); return; } var visible_projects = $('.projects:visible'); if (visible_projects.size() > 0) { visible_projects.height(10).slideUp(function() { clicked_project.slideDown(); }); } else { clicked_project.slideDown(); } }); Really, my big issue is with the second part - it sucks that I have to use that if/else - I should just be able to make the callback run instantly if there aren't any visible_projects. I would think this would be a pretty common task, and I'm sure there's a simplification I'm missing. Any suggestions appreciated!

  • Tiles in Windows 8 are disappearing

    I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 on a Dell Latitude D820, which went fine. But, after installing a new driver for the video card, the Start Screen is not working anymore. As soon the mouse touches a tile, they all disappear and I'm left with only the background image. I can go to the desktop by hitting Win+D and if I hit the Win key after some minutes the tiles are there again only to disappear as soon the mousepointer touches them. How do I fix this?

    I have a Queue of items I want to process in a thread, and any instance of a class can add items to the Queue to be processed. My idea for doing this is to have a static Thread in the class that processes the items, the only problem is that I don't know where to start this thread, since I can't start it in its initialization.     Alright, here's the problem. My hard drive activity light on my custom built PC is blinking exactly once every second. Microsoft has this to say on the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598 There has been discussion on this issue several months ago: Why does my hard drive LED light blink every second? The problem seems to stem from primarily Windows 7 polling the CD-ROM/DVD drive every second to see if something is inserted. The Windows 7 users in the thread that was linked in the superuser question, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/fi-FI/w7itprohardware/thread/4f6f63b3-4b58-4154-9298-1566100f9d00, have confirmed that this IS a known issue with Windows 7. Some people point at the motherboard circuitry causing the CD-ROM and SATA activity to both be linked to that hard drive activity, but whatever the case, the temporary solution seems to be to disable the CD/DVD-ROM drive in Device Manager. In fact, disabling the CD/DVD-ROM does stop the blinking, but of course this solution is counterproductive, because I shouldn't have to entirely disable a device to fix this problem. I've done the following suggestions in that thread: Change the autorun registry entry to 0 Completely disable autoplay in the autoplay control panel Disable autoplay in the Local Group Policy Editor. None of these stop the blinking from happening - apparently these solutions work for both XP and Vista, but it seems to be different in Windows 7. So I'm wondering if anyone has found out how to completely disable the polling in Windows 7, or if this will just have to be an issue we will have to deal with. There's no option to disable the auto insert notification when you go to the device within device manager (there was in XP), so I got no idea where this option is hidden, or if there's a registry key entry I could change to stop the polling. Anyone have any idea?

    When I try to start Outlook 2007, my system freezes, and Outlook says it is "synchonizing folders". I don't use exchange, and haven't seen any answers online. I've tried turning off the exchange integration (right clicking my folders) Since doing the latter, there is no longer an icon in the system tray when this is frozen (there was before) UPDATE: It seems my anti-virus program (comodo) was what was actually locking during Outlook file synch. I disabled that, and things seemed to settle down.

Has anyone any advice?

The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened. I have deleted and created a new profile in Control Panel Mail but it still doesn't want to work properly but it still comes up with this message. Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? If you need to see the conf files I copied over from the old to the custom server, LMK and I'll post them. Again your help here would be appreciated!

  • Xen won't start after it had been working

    I've been setting up this Debian Stable system with a dom0 and 3 domUs. It was working fine for several days, and I'm almost ready to deploy it to the rack. But last night I shut it down with all three domUs still running for the first time, and today when I started it up, xend won't start. Some service stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the performance logs and alerts sevice. Wat is the error?

    I structured my sites like: /home/www/domain.com/public,private, log, backup In the log folder, I created a blank error.log and access.log. My nginx file in sites-available for the domain looks like: server { access_log /home/www/domain1.com/log/access.log; error_log /home/www/domain1.com/log/error.log; } Trying to start nginx it says: starting nginx: the config file /etc/nginx/nginx/conf syntax is ok [emrg] open() ".../access.log" failed (2: no such file or directory) Is this a permission issue?
