  • IIS6: Web Site presenting the wrong SSL certificate

    Consider an IIS6 installation with multiple Web Sites. Each is intended to be a different subdomain with its own cert (not a wildcard cert). Each has their host-header specified properly. foo.example.com - port 443. Require SSL w/128 bit. Working properly! It presents its SSL cert properly to the browser. Configured for a specific IP address. bar.example.com - port 443. Require SSL w/128 bit. Configured for all unassigned addresses. When inspecting the IIS property page, it fully shows the cert for bar.example.com on the View Certificate button. This is a NEW web site that is having cert problems. It's presenting the cert for foo.example.com. Ouch! Question: can you have more than one subdomains both running on separate websites with SSL certs on the same port (443)? How would you configure 2 web sites on the same range of 'all unassigned' for the same port (443) ? Update: ignoring the cert error, when browsing to https://bar, the content served is from https://foo site. When NOT using SSL, browsing to http://bar serves the correct content from bar. Just one address is assigned to this DMZ server.

    Hi, I have a website running at www.domain.com. The client now wants the website to appear to be running under www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ Since the website is umbraco it won't run under a subfolder. I wanted to use ISAPI rewrite to proxy requests to www.domain.com using the following rule in a .htaccess at www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [P,L] However, when I apply this I get an ugly 500 Internal Server Error. There's nothing in the event log.   • Alternative to robocopy /MIR

    We run a number of web apps that store a lot of local data in small xml files. One part of our backup / recovery strategy is to produce a local mirror of the file system via a VPN to the hosting centre. The VPN connection is only via a 12Mbps ADSL and whilst there are a lot of files and directories, the actual number of files that changes is quite small. Although the bandwidth is probably an issue, I'm seeing results such as the output below. The robocopy /MIR took 5 hours to run yet only 30 mins to actually perform the copy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to ways to improve this. The 5 hours is now bordering on too slow and if we can't find a way to speed this up then we're going to have to come up with a completely different solution.   • Change DPI of one user using W2K3 Remote Desktop / Terminal Server

    In short: How do I increase the DPI of some (not all) of our customers connected to our RDP server? We are running a W2K3 Terminal Server that our clients connect to to run our application. One of our clients complains that all fonts / icons etc are too small. This user has a high DPI monitor. The DPI of the client OS (XP in this case) is not transferred to the server. To make things worse (or more interesting) the Display properties dialog disables the Advanced button that you can use to change the DPI on normal clients.

    I have an Hudson build working on IIS 6.0 with reverse proxy (IIRF). In general it works but 2 errors are displayed in Hudson in the main configuration page called "Manage Hudson" (only if I connect through the reverse proxy): Your container doesn't use UTF-8 to decode URLs. If you use non-ASCII characters as a job name etc, this will cause problems. See Containers and Tomcat i18n for more details.   • Very High Interrupt CPU usage in Win2k3 VM on vSphere

    Hi, I've been testing some software in a server virtual environment and I've noticed I get a huge amount of CPU usage on the Interrupts process. My question is, how does this relate to the virtual hardware platform as the rate is allot lower in a real system. Some how the hypervizor scheduler works hard to over come this problem but not as well as on real hardware does. Obvious things are high I/O and disk access but this application mostly just sits and works in memory allot.     I'm getting this error with IIS 6.0 (i assume), and PHP 5.2.3, and FastCGI FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: Error Number: 5 (0x80070005). Error Description: Access is denied. HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS) Any ideas, nothing revealings in logs (other than 500 errors), this is pretty much all of I have to work with. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP. I followed this tutorial http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/ to set it up. The only major diversion is I installed PHP to D:\PHP

  • SQL Server 2008 to Sybase Linked Server (x64) -- Provider and permissions issues

    Good morning, We're testing a new SQL Server 2008 setup (64-bit) and one of our requirements was to get a linked server up and talking to a Sybase database. We've successfully done so using Sybase's 64-bit 15.5 drivers, however I can't expand the catalog list from a remote machine (connecting to the '08 box with SSMS) without having my network account being added as an Administrator on the actual box and then using Windows Authentication to connect to the server instance. This is going to be problematic when we go live. Has anybody experienced this, or have any input on the permissions in SQL Server 2008 with regards to linked servers? If I remove my network account from the Administrators group, the big error I'm getting is a 'Msg 7302, Level 16, State 1, Line 41' with a description something like "Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "ASEOLEDB" for linked server "", and all research points to permissions issues. Thoughts? This document talks about DCOM configuration and permissions, but we've tried all of it with no luck. Thanks

  • Recovery of Windows DFS partion with shadow copy versioned files when overwritten with older modifie

    I've noticed the following "bug" on a DFS volume with shadow copies: Pretend you have the following folders/files under shadow copy versioning, going back two weeks. MyDirectory+ MyFile - Modified Date 8/1/2009 The current date: 8/30/2009 You have another version of MyFile stored elsewhere, with a modified date of 7/1/2009. Copy your other version of MyFile into MyDirectory, overwriting the newest version. I expected that you could roll back to the version that was there when it last imaged, say on the prior day and recover your 8/1 version. Not the case. Now, when you go to look at previous versions for the past two weeks, the versioning of that file will be entirely lost, and you'll be stuck with your older 7/1 version. Suckage. Questions: (1) Is this intentional, and if so, what's the rationale? I assume that DFS picks up on the versioning based on the current file, and that's what's wiping out prior versions, but it seems like a fairly stupid/naive way of handling versioning to me. (2) Is there a way to backtrack out of this, without resorting to restoration from other backup mediums? Thanks!

  • Unable to resolve FQDN, hostname works

    We are having an issue where computers who are not part of the domain cannot resolve the FQDN of a server (but regular hostname and ip do resolve). The strange thing is that this does work when the computer is added to the network. Our domain name is rather long, its something along the lines of "team.dept.company.com", could that be it? DHCP server passes along the proper DNS, Name and WINS servers, as well as the domain name. I thought that should've solved the problem, but apparently not really. Our domain is still windows2003 EDIT: I am starting to believe I can narrow this down to a problem either with the vmware tools NIC drivers that are embedded in my winPE boot image, or to the fact that I'm trying to do this from inside a VM. Pinging a FQDN at the same time when using a different task sequence on a physical machine works.

I've added various registry settings, Environment Variables and followed multiple tutorials found on the web and no dice as of yet. Rebooted after each. My original install was using MS "Web Platform Installer" however I have since rebooted. Any ideas on where to go from here would be most welcome.

Incremental crawling is scheduled at that time and few of the Timer jobs (normal timer jobs) are scheduled to run every mins / per 10mins. 2. Number of user requests are less. From SQL Server 2005 Perspective: 1. Transaction log backup is scheduled at that time 2. No other scheduled jobs are running at that time. so, how to narrow down the issue, what would be causing the sudden SQL connection increase?

  • Migrating a virtual domain controller for DR exercise

    Hello gurus, I have a question. I have a requirement where I have a virtual domain controller and I have to migrate it to another virtual server in a different location. It is for test purposes to test out a DR scenario and the test will be deemed successful if the users that authenticate using the production DC can do so in the backup DC. I don't know much about this and thus don't know why it was assigned to me. So any assistance will be greatly appreciated. What I had in mind was: 1) Taking a snapshot of the production server and then restoring it in the other server. But I was told that this is not the suggested way of doing it. I was not told why. Is that right?If a snapshot is to be taken then what is the best way to do it. Any ideas on where I can get the documentation for this? 2) Another way would be to build the test DC from ground up, match it to the specs of production DC and then perform the DR test. Is this a better option? What will be needed to perform such an activity? Where can I find documentation on that? I apologise for the length of this query. As I said I am quite a novice and hope to get a better resolution. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Regards,

  • Server 2008 print server down / access denied

    I have two Server 2008 servers (both running as VMs in VMware). One is a Full Installation, and the other is a Server Core installation. I just installed Print Services on both of them. In Print Management on the Full server, I added the Server Core print server (so now two print servers are listed in Print Management). However, the icon for my Server Core print server has a red, down-pointing arrow (indicating that it is down, I suppose). And when I right-click it and click Add Printer, I get a message saying that access is denied. Can someone tell me how to bring up or check on the status of the Server Core print server. Obviously, I'm somewhat of a noob with this stuff. Thanks in advance...

  • Fox Pro Database File Locked by Shadow Copy?

    I'm using Process Explorer to determine what process has a lock on a particular Fox Pro Database file in windows. It's telling me that System has a lock on it. When I go to kill the "System" process (which if you ask me doesn't sound like a very good idea), it asks me if I'm sure I want to kill the System process. I haven't answered yes yet. It's a company server, and I'm thinking that maybe my only option is to tell everybody to get off of it and reboot. Do I have any other options?

  • Wireless Network Issue, Disconnecting Randomly From Network

    I'm having an odd problem with my wireless network. Here is the background information: Server (Windows Server 2008) 1 to 10 end user machines connecting to the network Layer 3 Access Point (Asus WL-330 gE) connected to ethernet of Server and all machines connect to the network via the AP The end user machines get a connection to the server with no problems initially. But then connections are randomly lost throughout the day to the server/network. The wireless NICs of the machines still see the wireless network but are unable to connect to it. Then after some time the connection is regained automatically. I initially thought there was a problem with this particular AP, but then I took the same make/model AP out of storage and still ran into the problem. Any ideas what could be causing this??? Very confusing that the wireless nics on the end user machines can still see the network but not connect, and that the connections are randomly lost/gained. Thanks in advance!

  • SCCM Client Push FAIL - Win2000 box

    Hello, When trying to install the SCCM client onto a Windows 2000 box, the install fails. The install script is run through a batch file (CONTENTS: \mdop\SCCM_client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:MDOP /logon smssitecode=MID smsslp=MDOP) hosted on a public area of the network. This script has worked for all machines (mostly Win2003 Server). I've tried enabling all the common services it requires (BITS, IIS Admin, Windows Installer), but it still only runs for a second or two then quits. Here's the piece of the log file where it errors out: [LOG[Couldn't get directory list for directory 'http://MDOP/CCM_Client/ClientPatch'.   • Justifying a memory upgrade

    My employer has over a thousand servers (running SQL Server 2005 x64 and a couple of other apps) all across the country. And in my opinion they are all massively underpowered for what they need to do. Specifically, I feel that the servers simply do not have enough RAM for the amount of volume the machines are asked to do. All the servers currently have 6GB of RAM. The users are pretty much always complaining about performance (mostly because, immo, the server dips into the paging file quite often). I finally convinced the powers that be to at least try out a memory upgrade on one box and see the results. However, they want before and after metrics, so that they can see that the expense will be justified. My question is what metrics should I collect to see whether the performance truly improves on the box? I am a dev, so I am not sure how and what to collect (i have a passing knowledge of Perfmon).

    There's an exchange server with a problem that I'm trying to solve. There's a couple hundred messages that have been sent out but need journaled. They have been sent out but can't seem to make it to their journaling server. I have verified that the server they need to get to is valid and that the data center hosting the server is not having any problems. What are some other things I should look for to solve this issue?   • Restored Domain Controller does not display any information using dcdiag command

    I am testing restoring a domain controller from system state backup to different hardware in a non production environment as a sanity check for our restoration procedure. When i run the dcdiag command I get "blank info back" and all that is displayed are two lines as follows: Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: and then I am returned to the command prompt. Even when I do dcdiag /v i get the same result. I have double checked the DNS settings and Active Directory works properly. All FSMO roles are being held by this restored Domain Controller. I am able to join test pc's to the domain without issue etc Is this a common issue or is there something that I am missing. Thanks.

    Hi all, I had a dead PDC and another not so synced domain controller for my domain. using comments here link now the so called secondary domain controller has seized domain controls and I can verify it from dsa.msc that it is a domain controller. I set up another domain controller (win2003SRV) and about to promote an AD on it as a domain controller for my domain. When I try to join the new domain controller to the domain I face DNS problem. here is some more detail DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain DOMNAME.A.B: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMNAME.A.B The following domain controllers were identified by the query: update.DOMNAME.A.B Common causes of this error include: - Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses. - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running. For information about correcting this problem, click Help. it is worth noting that update.DOMNAME.A.B is the current domain controller to which I'd like to add another controller named PDC.DOMNAME.A.B Ip address of update.DOMNAME.A.B is 192.168.200.1 and for pdc.DOMNAME.A.B is 192.168.200.100 querying DNS on both machine return correct results. Any idea?
