    How do I comment out a block of tags in XML? I.e. How can I comment out <staticText> and everything inside it, in the code below? <detail> <band height="20"> <staticText> <reportElement x="180" y="0" width="200" height="20"/> <text><![CDATA[Hello World!]]></text> </staticText> </band> </detail> I could use <!-- staticText--> but that's just for single tags (as what I know), like // in Java and C. I would like something more like how /** comment **/ can be used in Java and C, so I can comment out longer blocks of XML code.

    I am using JAXB to bind XML to Java for an application that I am writing. I have an element called measure which contains two amount elements called amount and maxAmount, with which I want to model a lower and an upper limiting value. amount and maxAmount are otherwise identical and I would like them to be implemented with the same class when unmarshalled into Java. If the answer to the question is "change the XML schema", I have the supplementary question "how do I change the RNC to produce that XML schema?".   • Which programming language is easiest to get a junior position in?

    I do not have a CS degree but I have lots of intermediate experience with many languages (PHP, C#, Objective-C, Java, VBScript, Actionscript, Javascript, Ruby, etc), mostly freelance or pastime. I have a little experience with Linux (Ubuntu), and a decent bit with Windows. When I look at different languages I find that am interested in most (except maybe VB), but I am not sure what to focus on. So what would be the easiest language to get a job in? Java? PHP? Or would it be easier to get a job as a Junior DBA if I learned Oracle or SQL Server in my spare time?

  • JRI Fatal Error on Ubuntu

    I have successfully installed JRI and rJava on Windows 7. I am now trying to get it to work on Ubuntu with 64bit OS. I can make rJava calls from within R but getting JRI to work is more difficult. I am running NetBeans 7.1.2 and I have followed various tricks in setting R_HOME and java.library.path to enable all the classes to be loaded. That is, I am past the error messages such as "jri library not found" and "R_HOME not set". From my java code,I can see that R_HOME = /usr/lib64/R. The error message I get now is Fatal error: you must specify '--save', '--no-save' or '--vanilla' This happens when Rengine is first called: Rengine r = new Rengine(args,false,null); This appears to be an error message from R; it seems to be expecting a command line argument. I haven't seen any posting with this error message. Any ideas? Thanks, Peter

Please suggest and provide steps if possible.     I would like to create an online, simple WYSIWYG drawing editor allowing people to draw rectangular shapes. I'm thinking of a grid which the lines and points can snap on to, ensuring that the lines are strictly vertical or horizontal. I will be parsing the rectangular shapes to obtain some area calculations and compute certain things. How can I achieve the drawing ability? The new canvas tag is good but people have been telling me that IE does not support it. I found some Java applets but I have never programmed in Java before. Is there a way to do this using pure javascript or jquery? Does ASP.NET help at all? Thanks.

    Hey all. I am looking for a fast and efficient protocol that can be used between different web services to send text-data (not binary data). Doesn't matter if the protocol is binary or text base. Some conditions: I has to be more "efficient" than normal XML which adds a lot of extra data and the tools to read/write is too heavy It has to be "supported" by most major languages, meaning it cannot only be available for one specific language. At the moment, both Java and PHP have to be able to talk to each other using this protocol. I have already looked at: XML - which I am currently using. Hessian 2 -which works perfectly in Java, but the PHP-support is out of date JSON -the different between JSON and XML is only minor Any suggestions are welcome!

I'm at a loss to figure out what's going on. How can I find out what's causing this? Update: The system is a fully 64-bit system, so there should be no question of memory limitations due to 32-bit issues. Update2: As I mentioned in the original question, I've already tried tuning swappiness to all sorts of values, including 0. The result is always the same, with approximately 1.6 GB of memory remaining unused. Update3: Added top output to the above info.

    A client of mine has asked me to integrate a 3rd party API into their Rails app. The only problem is that the API uses SOAP. Ruby has basically dropped SOAP in favor of REST. They provide a Java adapter that apparently works with the Java-Ruby bridge, but we'd like to keep it all in Ruby, if possible. I looked into soap4r, but it seems to have a slightly bad reputation. So what's the best way to integrate SOAP calls into a Rails app?

    Today I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and I also upgraded the Eclipse Plugin Androi Developer Tools 8.0 (from 0.9.9). I also upgraded my Java Development Kit to 1.6_22. Now in Eclipse I get many errors in all my Android projects. The error messages are like: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files. How can I fix this so I can use my Android projects again? In the Build Path for these projects, I don't have any references to an android.jar but a message: Unable to get system library for project

    Tracking events and setting up Analytics for Websites seems easy. You create an account with one of the Analytics service providers like Google. They give you javascript code that you embed in your pages (whichever event you wish to track) and voila..you're done. I have written a native application for Android phones, which is actually an adaptation of the actual web site. Now, I am required to setup Analytics and tracking for this native application. Question: How to do setup a native application for Analytics? We have Java Script code(not Google Analytics but for some other engine) that works for the original web site. Is there a way to incorporate that in the native application? I know Android supports Java Script via WebViews(Webkit);my application does not have webviews, it is native! I have not worked on JavaScript since school so excuse me if I sound naive. Thanks.
