• How can I make a read only version of a class?

  I have a class with various public properties which I allow users to edit through a property grid. For persistence this class is also serialized/deserialized to/from an XML file through DataContractSerializer. Sometimes I want to user to be able to save (serialize) changes they've made to an instance of the class. Yet at other times I don't want to allow the user to save their changes, and should instead see all the properties in the property grid as read only. I don't want to allow users to make changes that they'll never be able to save later. Similar to how MS Word will allow users to open documents that are currently opened by someone else but only as read only. My class has a boolean property that determines if the class should be read-only, but is it possible to use this property to somehow dynamically add a read-only attributes to the class properties at run-time? If not what is an alternative solution? Should I wrap my class in a read-only wrapper class?

  On the iPhone, if you touch and hold your finger on an icon, it starts vibrating, then you can drag them around while the other icons move aside and rearrange dynamically. I'm trying to figure out how to do this inside an application with a grid of images or buttons. I don't need them to vibrate, but I do want the UI to allow the user to drag them with real-time dynamic reordering and then return the new position (ie, an int for accessing a mutable array). Any ideas how to do this? Any sample code out there? Thanks!

  I'm working on a website that will allow users to upload and sell their artwork in different sizes. I was wondering what the best way would be to handle the different file sizes automatically. A few points I was curious on: How to define different size categories (small, medium, large) in such a way that I'll be able to dynamically re-size images with proportional dimensions. Should I store actual jpegs of the different sizes for download? Or would it be easier to generate these different sizes for download on the fly My thumbnails will be somewhat larger than your average thumbnails, should I store a second 'thumbnail image' with the sites watermark overlaying it? Or once again, generate this on the fly? All opinions, advice are greatly appreciated!

• Beagleboard: How do I send/receive data to/from the DSP?

  I have a beagleboard with TMS320C64x+ DSP. I'm working on an image processing beagleboard application. Here's how it's going to work: The ARM reads an image from a file and put the image in a 2D array. The arm sends the matrix to the DSP. The DSP receives the matrix. The DSP performs the image processing algorithm on the received matrix (the algorithm code uses about 5MB of dynamically allocated memory). The DSP sends the processed image (matrix) to the ARM. The arm received the matrix. The arm saved the processed image to a file. I'v already written the code for steps 1,3,5. What is the easiest way to do steps 3+4 (sending the data)? Code examples are welcome.

  The purpose is that rows are dynamically added to a table and it is not as nice (and slower) to apply the rule manually later. The specific example is that I am creating a tree table to represent a folder directory. Each folder is a div. In each div, there is a ul with an li for each columns' information. These li have a class name equivalent to the column name. This provides column width. I want to make the columns resizable however. I could do $('.className').css('width', newWidth) but then this wont apply to newly inserted items. Therefore, I want to modify the css rule. How do I do this?

  If I'm using a ListView in virtual mode then, as I understand it, the list view only keeps track of a small number of items in the list. As the user scrolls it dynamically retrieves items it needs to show from the virtual list. But what if an item is added or removed from the master list? If an item is added/removed outside of the range of indexes being shown by the list view then I would assume the list view would show the added/missing items when the user scrolls to that index. Is this correct? But what if an item is added/removed from the range of indexes the user is currently viewing? How do I trigger the list view to refresh the items it is currently viewing to show the new/missing items?

• How can I pipe a large amount of data as a runtime argument?

  Running an executable JAR on a linux platform here. The program it self works on a somewhat large amount of data, basically a list of URLs... could be up to 2k. Currently I get this from a simple DB call. But I was thinking that instead of creating a new mode and writing SQL to get a new result set and having to redploy everytime, I could just make the program more robust by passing in the result set (the list of URLs) that need to be worked on... so, within a linux environment, is there a pain-free/simple way to get the result set and pass it in dynamically? I know file i/o is one, but it doesn't seem to be effecient because each file has to be named, as well more logic to handle grabbing the correct file, creating a file with a unique name, etc.

My problem is that once I installed my board in a local network and this board will acquire its IP address dynamically, it has to communicate with a client application running on one of the PC(other than DHCP server) in the network.   Ok this is a simple setup: DB has a view with personnel who have not been added to the system. The AutoComplete dynamically lists a numeric column field from the view. (Using Linq2SQL) (with autotracking off) Once this number is consumed - a refresh is done on the sqlserver's view. The Problem: This number still shows up in the Autocomplete UNTIL the VS WebDev Server is closed. Question: Why is the WebDev caching the data? I have tried turning off viewstate of the textbox, turned off caching on the autocompleteextender, to no avail. Any help please ...

• X11: How do I REALLY grab the mouse pointer?

  I've implemented a horizontal splitter widget in Xlib. I'm trying to grab the mouse when the user clicks & drags on the splitter bar (so that the user can dynamically move the split & thus resize the windows on either side of the splitter bar). I've used XGrabPointer() after receiving a left click, in hopes that all future mouse motion (dragging) will be diverted to the splitter window until the left button is released. Unfortuntately, it doesn't seem to work like that. If the user drags too quickly and the mouse pointer enters one of the windows on either side of the split, the MotionEvent messages are diverted to that (child) window rather than the splitter window. What have I done wrong?   hello, Thanks as usual for your prompt and kind suggestions. i am currently developing a function that is meant to execute dynamically created SQL statements. this is done by concatenating the columns and fetching them via cursors. the problem is that when there is a function with a comma between its arguments, the concat concatenates the contents of the functions inclusive. Is it possible to skip contents of every bracket found in a string using REGEXP_SUBTR or REGEXP_REPLACE? Many thanks for the anticipated response.

• Using custom scrollbar on jquery lightbox

  Hi, I need to use a custom scrollbar on jquery lightbox. My requirement is that when user clicks on a link then a popup appears and the popup contains 2 or 3 tabs, user can click on any tab to see it's content. In one of those tabs I need scrollbar to show huge content but the scrollbar should not be default it should be custom with any color. Currently I am using "JQuery's JScrollPane" plugin http://jscrollpane.kelvinluck.com to achieve the functionality, but this is not working on IE 6,7 and 8, mean scrollbar does not appear on IE. It works fine on Firefox and Chrome. Note: the same plugin works fine on IE also when I use it on page's element which is available while page load but not while the element is shown dynamically on lightbox. Thanks

  I am starting a silverlight project where I have tests for students to complete. I want to have some sort of framework so I can build the tests and store them in a database, delivering the content dynamically so I can continually develop new types of tests without having to re-deply the application. The content will have to be more than just xaml, as there may need to be some logic to determine if answers are correct, or to do some random generation of questions. I'm looking for suggestions on how to go about building a framework that supports this. Are there some best practices, or examples? Should each test type just be a seperate silverlight control, or should I use 1 silverlight "container" application that can display dynamic content?

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

  What's a good flash player to use on an ASP.NET MVC site? The page I'm working on will need to display a number of videos on each page dynamically based on what the user searched for. I'd like each of the videos to show up as thumbnails that can be played, paused, and or enlarged to full screen. I've worked with the standard ASP.NET and used FlashControl.dll to accomplish this. • How do I route watir through a proxy pragmatically?

  I'm trying to route watir through a proxy pragmatically -- this means within the script I'd like to change my proxy dynamically before launching the browser. Here's what I've tried so far (and so far am failing): I'm running chrome and lucid lynx ubuntu. I chose TREX cause I thought watir might be making use of PROXY or something. I rewrote /usr/bin/google-chrome as: #!/bin/bash /opt/google/chrome/chrome --proxy-server="$TREX" $@ The reason I'm passing in the environment variable to proxy-server rather than http_proxy is because I never could get http_proxy to work as is anyways then I did a simple: require 'rubygems' require 'watir-webdriver' ENV['TREX'] = "XX.XX.XX.XX:YY" browser = Watir::Browser.new(:chrome) browser.goto("http://mysite.com") Anyways, what is happening here is that it is forwarding me to the login page of the proxy rather than just forwarding the request. What am I missing here? I feel like I'm pretty close.

• Client-side or server-side processing?

  So, I'm new to dynamic web design (my sites have been mostly static with some PHP), and I'm trying to learn the latest technologies in web development (which seems to be AJAX), and I was wondering, if you're transferring a lot of data, is it better to construct the page on the server and "push" it to the user, or is it better to "pull" the data needed and create the HTML around it on the clientside using JavaScript? More specifically, I'm using CodeIgniter as my PHP framework, and jQuery for JavaScript, and if I wanted to display a table of data to the user (dynamically), would it be better to format the HTML using CodeIgniter (create the tables, add CSS classes to elements, etc..), or would it be better to just serve the raw data using JSON and then build it into a table with jQuery? My intuition says to do it clientside, as it would save bandwidth and the page would probably load quicker with the new JavaScript optimizations all these browsers have now, however, then the site would break for someone not using JavaScript... Thanks for the help
