  Hello, I have a python program/file that I want to run repeatedly and calculate the averages of some variables over these runs. To do so, I thought it might be convenient to convert this program into a function or a class. One way I can think of is to add a def Main(): line at the top and indent every line manually within it. • Recommended setting for using Apache mod_mono with a different user

  Hello, I'm setting up an ASP.net script in my linux machine using mod_mono. The script spawn procceses of a bin that belongs to another user, but the proccess is spawned by www-data because apache runs with that user, and i need to spawn the proccess with the user that owns the file. I tried setuid bit but it doesn't make any effect. I discovered that if I kill mod-mono-server2.exe and I run it with the user that I need, everything works right, but I want to know the proper way to do this, because after a while apache runs mod-mono-server2.exe as www-data again. Mono-Project webpage says: How can I Run mod-mono-server as a different user? Due to apache's design, there is no straightforward way to start processes from inside of a apache child as a specific user. Apache's SuExec wrapper is targeting CGI and is useless for modules. Mod_mono provides the MonoStartXSP option. You can set it to "False" and start mod-mono-server manually as the specific user. Some tinkering with the Unix socket's permissions might be necessary, unless MonoListenPort is used, which turns on TCP between mod_mono and mod-mono-server. Another (very risky) way: use a setuid 'root' wrapper for the mono executable, inspired by the sources of Apache's SuExec. I want to know how to use the setuid wrapper, because I tried adding the setuid to 'mono' bin and changing the owner to the user that I want, but that made mono crash. Or maybe a way to keep running mono-mod-server2.exe separated from apache without being closed (anyone has a script?) My environment: Debian Lenny 2.6.26-2-amd64 Mono 1.9.1 mod_mono from debian repository Dedicated server (root access and stuff) Using apache vhosts -I use mono for only that script Thanks!

• Incorrect deployment of WSGI app to AWS using Elastic Beanstalk

  cross-link to AWS forums I have developed a simple Python web service using WSGI and would like to deploy it to AWS cloud using Elastic Beanstalk. My problem is I cannot make all the options I specify in Elastic Beanstalk configuration to be correctly configured in the cloud. For deployment, I use Elastic Beanstalk CLI utility. I have run eb init command and set up the required parameters. After this, a directory named .elasticbeanstalk was created in my source tree. It has two config files that are used for deployment, namely config and optionsettings. The latter one among the other options contains the WSGI configuration that has to update /etc/httpd/conf.d/wsgi.conf at the instances. After some of my adjustments the file has the following settings: [aws:elasticbeanstalk:application:environment] DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE = PARAM1 = PARAM2 = PARAM4 = PARAM3 = PARAM5 = [aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python] WSGIPath = handler.py NumProcesses = 2 StaticFiles = /static= NumThreads = 10 [aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python:staticfiles] /static = static/ [aws:elasticbeanstalk:hostmanager] LogPublicationControl = false [aws:autoscaling:launchconfiguration] InstanceType = t1.micro EC2KeyName = zmicier-aws [aws:elasticbeanstalk:application] Application Healthcheck URL = [aws:autoscaling:asg] MaxSize = 10 MinSize = 1 Custom Availability Zones = [aws:elasticbeanstalk:monitoring] Automatically Terminate Unhealthy Instances = true [aws:elasticbeanstalk:sns:topics] Notification Endpoint = Notification Protocol = email It turns out that not all of these options are considered when I start the environment or update it. Thus, when I update NumThreads or NumProcesses, the respective parameters get changed in wsgi.conf as expected. But whatever I write to the WSGIPath and StaticFiles parameters, I'm not able to automatically change the respective values of wsgi.conf, they remain Alias /static /opt/python/current/app/ WSGIScriptAlias / /opt/python/current/app/application.py which drives me nuts. Moreover, when I deploy my application using git aws.push and having the following contents of .ebextensions/python.config file, neither of options I specify in it affects the deployment. option_settings: - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: WSGIPath value: mysite/wsgi.py - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: NumProcesses value: 5 - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python option_name: NumThreads value: 25 - namespace: aws:elasticbeanstalk:container:python:staticfiles option_name: /static/ value: app/static/ I wonder what I should do to force AWS use all the parameters I specify in the configuration, namely the WSGI Path and path to my static data.

  I have a web site using mod_rewrite to get some clean urls and custom 404 pages. My .htaccess file looks like this: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?clean_url=$1 [QSA,L] </IfModule> What puzzles me is that if the URL contains a %2F (url-encoded /) the server seems to force a 404. As an example, http://example.com/category/article would be a normal article, but then http://example.com/category%2farticle gives a server-generated 404 page. (not the custom 404 page) I wouldn't have expected this... why this is happening? Is there a way around it?

• mod-rewrite: what's wrong with this simple rewrite to redirect to a subdirectory?

  the root directory http: // www .mydomain .com (SF won't let me post hyperlinks - rep is too low) has a catchall index.php page in it, and an .htaccess file. Within this root directoy I have a wordpress/ directory which contains (suprise surprise) a wordpress installation. My goal is that when the user types in http: // www .mydomain .com they are instead taken to http: // www .mydomain .com/wordpress Here is my rewrite rule: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/wordpress RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://%{SERVER_NAME}/wordpress/$1 [L] At the moment it appears to do nothing - it still loads index.php within the root directory. What should my rewrite rule be (I'm assuming the one I'm using is wrong)?

• I have a very long and repetitive python path, where do I look to correct this?

  I know it is probably not necessary to paste the whole path, but just for the record I have done so below. Whenever I run a python command, it takes a long time to load this path I suppose. • Python: Improving long cumulative sum

  I have a program that operates on a large set of experimental data. The data is stored as a list of objects that are instances of a class with the following attributes: time_point - the time of the sample cluster - the name of the cluster of nodes from which the sample was taken code - the name of the node from which the sample was taken qty1 = the value of the sample for the first quantity qty2 = the value of the sample for the second quantity I need to derive some values from the data set, grouped in three ways - once for the sample as a whole, once for each cluster of nodes, and once for each node. The values I need to derive depend on the (time sorted) cumulative sums of qty1 and qty2: the maximum value of the element-wise sum of the cumulative sums of qty1 and qty2, the time point at which that maximum value occurred, and the values of qty1 and qty2 at that time point. The above is attractive in that it only loops through the (large) dataset once, but unattractive in that I've essentially copied/pasted three copies of the same algorithm. The first snippet above runs well for my initial dataset (on the order of a million records), but later datasets will have more records and clusters/nodes, so scalability is a concern. This is my first non-trivial use of Python, and I want to make sure I'm taking proper advantage of the language (this is replacing a very convoluted set of SQL queries, and earlier versions of the Python version were essentially very ineffecient straight transalations of what that did). • Python dictionary key missing

  I thought I'd put together a quick script to consolidate the CSS rules I have distributed across multiple CSS files, then I can minify it. I'm new to Python but figured this would be a good exercise to try a new language. My main loop isn't parsing the CSS as I thought it would. I populate a list with selectors parsed from the CSS files to return the CSS rules in order.
