  • SVN: Create a dump file of a folder

    I'm trying to create a dump file of a folder in my SVN repository.(My goal is to import this dump on another repository, but that's another story). I've read like 20 pages about this and they all tell me to use svndumpfilter but I can't seem to make it work. I've read and re-read the actual documentation at http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_42_0/libs/spirit/doc/html/index.html and the examples therein. I know Joel is starting a compiler series on the blog http://boost-spirit.com/home/ but that hasn't gotten in full swing yet. Any other resources to see worked examples using some more sophisticated/involved aspects in the context of fully working applications?

  • active_scaffold routing error

    If you haven't seen my question yesterday, this is my second rails app. The first went nice and smooth, but this one keeps giving me one random error after another. I installed active_scaffold for this app as well as the last app (the first error, instead of using script/install plugin git://active_scaffold repository, I did script/install plugin http://active_scaffold repository.) I didn't want to spell out basic CRUD on minor models. After the install problems, (before I found the http solution from a windows user when I'm on Linux) I thought I'd try out Hobo. Well, Hobo updated actionmailer, actionpack, activerecord, activeresource, and installed rack. Rails isn't even using the updated versions. But as you can see at the bottom of the trace it's using rack. I have a feeling it has something to do with my futzing around with installing Hobo which I uninstalled. Thanks in advanced. [Edit] I had asked the question over at the ActiveScaffold Group the answer (if you don't want to follow the link) was that this line needed to be added to routes: map.resources :modelName, :active_scaffold => true It doesn't entirely answer my question, since the documentation said nothing about changing routes. But, it works.   • Testing a Doctrine2 Entity with assertEquals results in fatal out-of-memory error

    I have a PHPUnit test that's using a Doctrine2 custom repository and Doctrine Fixtures. I wanted to test that a query gave me back an expected entity from my fixture. But when I try $this->assertEquals($expectedEntity, $result);, I get Fatal error: out of memory. I'm guessing it is recursing into all the relations and the entity manager and whatnot. Is there a good way to test this equality? Should I just assertEquals on the IDs of the entities?

  • What are the differences between GIT and SVN when it comes to merge conflicts solving.

    I keep hearing that branching in git is so much easier than in SVN, because it's easier to merge the branch back to trunk/master. I've read some tutorials, but they only covered basic merge conflicts ("Alice changed line 8 of code.cpp and at the same time Bob changed line 8 of code.cpp...") and there are no differences between SVN and all other distributed source control systems. Can you give me the examples of changes in branch that would cause troubles in SVN repository, but would be handled gracefully by git?

    A subversion repository contains the html, latex and man directories that doxygen generates from the source code. Even for small source code changes, new files are being generated with random names which makes for large changes in the version control system. Is there are way around this? How can I minimize the changesets between revisions while still including doxygen-generated documentation? Alternatively, how could I find which of the doxygen-genrated files are no longer being used and should be removed?

  • Why is TortoiseSVN so slow?

    I'm using TortoiseSVN to connect to my Subversion repository hosted with CVSDude. It's unreasonably slow--especially on small transfers... 5 kBytes transferred in 5 minute(s) and 9 second(s)?! It's not just slow to respond, though. It bogs the computer down for 5 minutes while processing those 5 kilobytes. Could there possibly be anything wrong with my installation or settings? Or, is the blame purely with my Subversion host, CVSDude?

    As I understand it when Git assigns a SHA1 hash to a file this SHA1 is unique to the file based on its contents. As a result if a file moves from one repository to another the SHA1 for the file remains the same as its contents have not changed. How does Git calculate the SHA1 digest? Does it do it on the full uncompressed file contents? I would like to emulate assigning SHA1's outside of Git.

[Serializable] public class Collectable<T> : List<T>, IDisposable { public Collectable() { } public void Dispose() { } } And an Item that uses it is defined.. [Serializable] [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot("Titles")] public partial class Titles : Collectable<Title> { } The problem is when I call the method, it expects "Collectable" to be the XmlRoot, but the XmlRoot is "Titles" (all of object Title). I have several classes that are collected in .xml files like this, but it seems pointless to rewrite the basic methods for loading each up when the generic accessors do it - but how can I enforce the proper root name for each file without hard coding methods for each one? The [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot] seems to be ignored. When called like this... var titles = Repository.List<Models.Title>(); I get the exception <Titlesxmlns=''> was not expected.
