  • Managed bean property value not set to null

    - by Vladimir
Hi! I'm new to JSF, so this question might be strange. I have an inputText component's value bound to managed bean's property of type Float. I need to set property to null when inputText field is empty, not to 0 value. It's not done by default, so I added converter with the following method implemented: public Object getAsObject(FacesContext arg0, UIComponent arg1, String arg2) throws ConverterException { if (StringUtils.isEmpty(arg2)) { return null; } float result = Float.parseFloat(arg2); if (result == 0) { return null; } return result; } I registered converter, and assigned it to inputText component. I logged arg2 argument, and also logged return value from getAsObject method. By my log I can see that it returns null value. But, I also log setter property on backing bean and argument is 0 value, not null as expected. To be more precise, it is setter property is called twice, once with null argument, second time with 0 value argument. It still sets backing bean value to 0. How can I set value to null? Thanks in advance.

  • Android Runtime Layout Tutorial

    - by Ryan
Does anyone know how to perform or have a good reference for doing an activity layout at runtime in android? Here is the code for my activity. I'm sure I'm just neglecting to do something here: package com.isi.sa; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.LinearLayout; import android.widget.TextView; public class SimpleAssessmentTest extends Activity { LinearLayout layout; TextView question; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); layout = new LinearLayout(this); question = new TextView(this); layout.setBackgroundColor(R.color.black); question.setTextColor(R.color.white); question.setText("This is question1"); layout.addView(question); } } As you can see I'm just trying to add a linear layout with a single text view (just for testing purposes) however, when the activity starts I just get a black screen with a title bar of my app name. Thanks

  • Can't login to Manager App in Tomcat 6.0.18

    - by Rafael Almeida
Folks, I can't login to the manager app (localhost:8080/manager/html) in my Tomcat. More specifically, it asks for my username and password, and the ones supposed to be correct aren't accepted. Here's what I already checked: I tried editing my conf/tomcat-users.xml to add my user/role. Here's the current content of this file: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?> <tomcat-users> <role rolename="manager"/> <user username="tomcat" password="s3cret" roles="manager"/> </tomcat-users> I thought that maybe it wasn't looking up on this XML, but elsewhere. So, I came to know about Realms. The Realm part of my configuration is now: < Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.MemoryRealm" / ( please ignore the space before Realm, for some reason this site isn't accepting the literal tag ) What am I missing?

  • Window management shortcuts?

    - by pwnguin
I've got a single massive monitor at home, and I've decided to mimic the Windows 7 window tiling shortcuts. I found a few guides online using wmctrl, and it's going well, save one thing: maximized windows don't respond to it. gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 "wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0, 0,0, `xwininfo -root | grep Width | awk '{ print ($2/2)}'`, `xwininfo -root | grep Height | awk '{ print $2 }'`" (I've added line returns to make an otherwise massive one-liner readable.) I've bound this to a hotkey and it works, unless the window is maximized. Any ideas on how to fix this up?

  • Who is Configuration Manager?

    - by altern
I would like to ask members of the community about the role of Configuration Manager, as you see it. I'm not asking what Configuration Management is, as long it had been asked before. What I need to know is: What tasks do you think Configuration Manager should perform (or performs) in your team? What is primary responsibility of Configuration Manager? What are secondary/auxiliary responsibilities of Configuration Manager? Does Configuration Manager need to be in charge of development processes on the project/company or he should be told what to do? What are relations between Configuration Manager, Build Manager, Release Manager, Deployment Engineer, CI Engineer roles? Aren't they all the same - Configuration Management? Maybe term Configuration Management is redundant and Technical/Team Lead should do all the related work instead? It would be really great if you could share your vision and experience.

  • X11 and Window Manager Confusion

    - by ell
What roles do the Xorg server and a window manager, for example, metacity, play in displaying windows? Does the window manager communicate with the OS or Xorg? Does Xorg then use OpenGl to display things? Can someone explain what exactly the Xorg server does, and what exactly the window manager does, and the differences between the two. Also, if you could show me the Windows equivalent, that would be helpful. Thanks in advance, ell.

  • Throwing exception vs checking null, for a null argument

    - by dotnetdev
What factors dictate throwing an exception if argument is null (eg if (a is null) throw new ArgumentNullException() ), as opposed to checking the argument if it is null beforehand. I don't see why the exception should be thrown rather than checking for null in the first place? What benefit is there in the throw exception approach? This is for C#/.NET Thanks

  • How can a not null constraint be dropped?

    - by Tomislav Nakic-Alfirevic
Let's say there's a table created as follows: create table testTable ( colA int not null ) How would you drop the not null constraint? I'm looking for something along the lines of ALTER TABLE testTable ALTER COLUMN colA DROP NOT NULL; which is what it would look like if I used PostgreSQL. To my amazement, as far as I've been able to find, the MySQL docs, Google and yes, even Stackoverflow (in spite of dozens or hundreds of NULL-related questions) don't seem to lead towards a single simple SQL statement which will do the job.

  • Copy android.R.layout to my project

    - by eric
    Good advice from CommonWare and Steve H but it's not as easy to me as I first thought. Based on their advice I'm trying to copy android.R.layout to my project to ensure consistency. How do you do this? I looked in Eclipse's Package Explorer and under Android 1.5android.jarandroidR.classRlayout and find R$layout.class. Do I copy the code out of there into my own class? From my very limited knowledge of Java, the following code doesn't make much sense: public static final class android.R$layout { // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int activity_list_item = 17367040; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int browser_link_context_header = 17367054; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int expandable_list_content = 17367041; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int preference_category = 17367042; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int select_dialog_item = 17367057; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int select_dialog_multichoice = 17367059; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int select_dialog_singlechoice = 17367058; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_dropdown_item_1line = 17367050; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_expandable_list_item_1 = 17367046; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_expandable_list_item_2 = 17367047; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_gallery_item = 17367051; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_list_item_1 = 17367043; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_list_item_2 = 17367044; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_list_item_checked = 17367045; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_list_item_multiple_choice = 17367056; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_list_item_single_choice = 17367055; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_spinner_dropdown_item = 17367049; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int simple_spinner_item = 17367048; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int test_list_item = 17367052; // Field descriptor #8 I public static final int two_line_list_item = 17367053; // Method descriptor #50 ()V // Stack: 3, Locals: 1 public R$layout(); 0 aload_0 [this] 1 invokespecial java.lang.Object() [1] 4 new java.lang.RuntimeException [2] 7 dup 8 ldc <String "Stub!"> [3] 10 invokespecial java.lang.RuntimeException(java.lang.String) [4] 13 athrow Line numbers: [pc: 0, line: 899] Local variable table: [pc: 0, pc: 14] local: this index: 0 type: android.R.layout Inner classes: [inner class info: #5 android/R$layout, outer class info: #64 android/R inner name: #55 layout, accessflags: 25 public static final] }

  • Negate the null-coalescing operator

    - by jhunter
I have a bunch of strings I need to use .Trim() on, but they can be null. It would be much more concise if I could do something like: string endString = startString !?? startString.Trim(); Basically return the part on the right if the part on the left is NOT null, otherwise just return the null value. I just ended up using the ternary operator, but is there anyway to use the null-coalescing operator for this purpose?

  • Why cast null before checking if object is equal to null?

    - by jacerhea
I was looking through the "Domain Oriented N-Layered .NET 4.0 Sample App" project and ran across some code that I do not understand. In this project they often use syntax like the following to check arguments for null: public GenericRepository(IQueryableContext context,ITraceManager traceManager) { if (context == (IQueryableContext)null) throw new ArgumentNullException("context", Resources.Messages.exception_ContainerCannotBeNull); Why would you cast null to the type of the object you are checking for null?

  • How to check if a BOOL is null?

    - by Sheehan Alam
Is there a way I can check to see if a value is NULL/Nil before assigning it to a BOOL? For example, I have a value in a NSDictionary that can be either TRUE/FALSE/NULL mySTUser.current_user_following = [[results objectForKey:@"current_user_following"]boolValue]; When the value is NULL I get the following error *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSNull boolValue]: unrecognized selector sent to instance I would like to be able to handle the NULL case.

  • When is `x IS NOT NULL` not the same as `NOT(x IS NULL)`

    - by Mark Hurd
For what x is The expression x IS NOT NULL is not equal to NOT(x IS NULL), as is the case in 2VL (quote from this answer, which is quoting Fabian Pascal Practical Issues in Database Management - A Reference for the Thinking Practitioner -- near the end of that answer) My guess is when x IS NULL is NULL, but I cannot guess when that would be (i.e. I haven't checked the SQL standard).

  • What is the difference between a desktop environment and a window manager?

    - by Zolomon
As the title says. I'm having a really hard time trying to understand what the differences between a desktop environment and a window manager are? EDIT: This is what I found out later. There are basically three layers that can be included in the Linux desktop: X Windows – This is the foundation that allows for graphic elements to be drawn on the display. X Windows builds the primitive framework that allows moving of windows, interactions with keyboard and mouse, and draws windows. This is required for any graphical desktop. Window Manager – The Window Manager is the piece of the puzzle that controls the placement and appearance of windows. Window Managers include: Enlightenment, Afterstep, FVWM, Fluxbox, IceWM, etc. Requires X Windows but not a desktop environment. Desktop Environment – This is where it begins to get a little fuzzy for some. A Desktop Environment includes a Window Manager but builds upon it. The Desktop Environment typically is a far more fully integrated system than a Window Manager. Requires both X Windows and a Window Manager.

  • Is there a way how to customize my keyboard layout in Xubuntu in a graphical way (by clicking)?

    - by Honza Javorek
Possible duplicate, but I really couldn't find a solution. I would like to adjust my US keyboard layout, e.g. to add possibility to type some special characters on combination of right Alt + another character, etc. Moreover, my arrow up is dead, so until I buy another keyboard, I'd like to use my right shift as my arrow up, ASAP. However, there seems to be no way how to edit my keyboard layout easily in Xubuntu :( I found no editor and I really don't want to spend years in some configuration files and terminal (not that I can't, but I really really don't want). KLE - the only editor I could find, but no installation guide, no package, no PPA, no idea how to make it working (and uninstallable if not needed one day) Editor in Ubuntu - apparently not present in Xubuntu I found several tutorials how to change the layout, but they all seems to be complicated and not easy to follow. I don't want to spend a weekend in terminal or so, I am looking for an app to launch, make some clicking, finish my work by hitting Save button and - done! Please, is there such solution? For humans?

  • JavaNullPointerException/Layout Error when working with lists and ListView on Android

    - by psyhclo
    Hey, I'm trying to implement a ListView on Android, which will print the data retrieved from the SQLite Database. So I want to retrieve a lot of columns from the table and add this to a list, so I will print this list as a ListView. For this I created a method that will select all the columns from the table in a separate class, and I will print the ListView in a ListActivity. I want to retrieve 6 columns of the table, which is represented by the ids 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9. But it shows a lot of errors: 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): java.lang.NullPointerException 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(ArrayAdapter.java:355) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.getView(ArrayAdapter.java:323) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:1418) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1745) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:670) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:727) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1598) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1248) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1254) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1130) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1047) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1254) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1130) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1047) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1140) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1859) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3647) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:507) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:839) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:597) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Here is the code of the method that select the data. public List<String> selectAll() { List<String> list1 = new ArrayList<String>();   • Unique ways to use the Null Coalescing operator

    - by Atomiton
I know the standard way of using the Null coalescing operator in C# is to set default values. string nobody = null; string somebody = "Bob Saget"; string anybody = ""; anybody = nobody ?? "Mr. T"; // returns Mr. T anybody = somebody ?? "Mr. T"; // returns "Bob Saget" But what else can ?? be used for? It doesn't seem as useful as the ternary operator, apart from being more concise and easier to read than: nobody = null; anybody = nobody == null ? "Bob Saget" : nobody; // returns Bob Saget So given that fewer even know about null coalescing operator... Have you used ?? for something else? Is ?? necessary, or should you just use the ternary operator (that most are familiar with)

  • Deep Null checking, is there a better way?

    - by Mattias Konradsson
We've all been there, we have some deep property like cake.frosting.berries.loader that we need to check if it's null so there's no exception. The way to do is is to use a short-circuiting if statement if (cake != null && cake.frosting != null && cake.frosting.berries != null) ... This strikes me however as not very elegant, there should perhaps be an easier way to check the entire chain and see if it comes up against a null variable/property. So is it possible using some extension method or would it be a language feature, or is it just a bad idea?
