• Change SVN Path Entirely

  Hi Guys, We have an SVN at http:/XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:1111/svn/AB/ - and the first two folders of the SVN are like http:/XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:1111/svn/AB/abc/filefolder/ The problem is we want to move the entire svn to get rid of /abc/filefolder/ - as the entire project sits under /abc/filefolder/ [created long ago and never bothered to change] (que stupid yes yes) How would we could about fixing this so we dont loose logs etc ? We dont want to have to export and create a new svn - since then we loose all our log files. But we want to "move" the svn root so for example it becomes From: http:/XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:1111/svn/AB/abc/filefolder/documents/ To: http:/XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:1111/svn/AB/documents/ Any help appreciated ? • Cross-compiling a Python script on Linux into a Windows executable

  I have a Python script that I'd like to compile into a Windows executable. Now, py2exe works fine from Windows, but I'd like to be able to run this from Linux. I do have Windows on my development machine, but Linux is my primary dev platform and I'm getting kind of sick of rebooting into Windows just to create the .exe. Any ideas? PS: I am aware that py2exe doesn't exactly compile the python file as much as package your script with the Python interpreter. But either way, the result is that you don't need Python installed to run the script.

I read/heard about web farms, integration between different systems, load balancing ... etc. Therefore, I was wondering if there are ways for the individual developer to create an environment that simulates real world situations with minimal number of machines like: web farms & caching simulating many users accessing your website (Pressure tests?) Performance load balancing anything you think I should consider. By the way, I have a server machine and 1 PC. and I don't mind investing in tools and software. PS. • How to get a service to listen on port 80 on Windows Server 2003

  I've coded a custom windows service that listens on TCP port 80 but when I try to install it on a Windows Server 2003 machine it fails to start because some other service is already listening on that port. So far I've disabled the IIS Admin service and the HTTP SSL service but no luck. When I run netstat -a -n -o | findstr 0.0:80 it gives me the process id 4 as the culprit, but when I look at the running processes that process id points to the "System" process. What can I do to get the System process to stop listening on port 80 and get my service to listen instead? P.S. I should point out that the service runs fine if I install it on my Windows XP or Windows 7 development boxes. Also, I should specify that this has nothing to do with it being a service. I've tried starting a regular application that attempts to bing to port 80 on the Windows Server 2003 with the same outcome - it fails because another application is already bound to that port.

  Hi, I am trying to learn Domain Driven Design and recently read that lots of people advocate creating a ViewModels for your views that store all the values you want to display in a given view. My question is how should I do the form validation? should I create separate validation classes for each view, or group them together? I'm also confused on what this would look like in code. • What is your favourite Windbg tip/trick?

Can fellow Windbg users share some of their mad skills? ps: I am not looking for a nifty command, those can be found in the documentation.   I asked wrong question previously and was swamped with negative votes... Let me try again... What is absolutely fastest way to make an int positive (given 50/50 distribution of pos/neg over time). To be nominated for an answer I will require MSIL analysis and not a guess or measuring of time with granny's watch... P.S. as one of variations I proposed i * i not because I wanted to do Sqrt(i * i) afterwards but because i will be used only once to be compared to a const. And if i * i will win competition I simply multiply the const.. • How to close an oracle db connection from php on an apache server? I mean close instantly.

  Usually closing a connection is simply done by oci_clone($connection); or in a worse case when the php script ends the connection pass away. In my case however, I face a different behavior. If I access my application which uses PHP 5.2.8, Apache 2.2.11 and oci8 1.2.5, the connection is kept during several minutes. Actually it seems to: if I launch netstat -b I see that the process httpd.exe remains with the ESTABLISHED status on the database's URL during a while (a few minutes). Could someone enlighten me on that behavior? P.S. I do not use persistent connections.

I have very long integer sequences that look like this (arbitrary length!): 0000000001110002220033333 Now I need some algorithm to convert this string into something compressed like a9b3a3c3a2d5 Which means "a 9 times, then b 3 times, then a 3 times" and so on, where "a" stands for 0, "b" for 1, "c" for 2 and "d" for 3. How would you do that? So far nothing suitable came to my mind, and I had no luck with google because I didn't really know what to search for. What is this kind of encoding / compression called? PS: I am going to do the encoding with PHP, and the decoding in JavaScript.

  Greetings everybody. I have seen examples of such operations for so many times that I begin to think that I am getting something wrong with binary arithmetic. Is there any sense to perform the following: byte value = someAnotherByteValue & 0xFF; I don't really understand this, because it does not change anything anyway. Thanks for help. P.S. I was trying to search for information both elsewhere and here, but unsuccessfully. EDIT: Well, off course i assume that someAnotherByteValue is 8 bits long, the problem is that i don't get why so many people ( i mean professionals ) use such things in their code. For example in Jon Skeet's MiscUtil there is: uint s1 = (uint)(initial & 0xffff); where initial is int.

• Any clever way to fix 'string or binary data would be truncated' warning with LINQ

  Is there a clever way to determine which field is causing 'string or binary data would be truncated' with LINQ. I've always ended up doing it manually by stepping through a debugger, but with a batch using 'SubmitChanges' I have to change my code to inserting a single row to find the culprit in a batch of rows. Am I missing something or in this day and age do I really have to still use a brute force method to find the problem. Please dont give me advice on avoiding this error in future (unless its something much cleverer than 'validate your data'). The source data is coming from a different system where I dont have full control anyway - plus I want to be lazy. PS. Does SQL Server 2008 actually tell me the field name. Please tell me it does! I'll upgrade!

• Metro + Jetty + OSGi = pain

  I am trying to swap out Sun's HTTPServer for the much better Jetty server, within an OSGi bundle, running on Equinox. I have tried this: System.setProperty("com.sun.net.httpserver.HttpServerProvider","org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider"); but when endpoint.publish(url) is called, and the server is spawned, it complains of a ClassNotFoundException for org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider. However, the correct jars are in the bundle, and indeed in the Activator I can instantiate a org.mortbay.jetty.j2se6.JettyHttpServerProvider. I think that this is a some kind of classpath issue - the spawned server is in a different classpath maybe? I have tried adding the JARs in at the JDK level, but this doesn't make any difference. Can oanyone shed any light how on earth to get this working? P.S. Maybe hideous System.setProperty calls will vanish from the world one day. Hopefully :)

• Batch files - number of command line arguments

  Just converting some shell scripts into batch files and there is one thing I can't seem to find...and that is a simple count of the number of command line arguments. eg. if you have: myapp foo bar In Shell: $# - 2 $* - foo bar $0 - myapp $1 - foo $2 - bar In batch ?? - 2 <---- what command?! %* - foo bar %0 - myapp %1 - foo %2 - bar So I've looked around, and either I'm looking in the wrong spot or I'm blind, but I can't seem to find a way to get a count of number of command line arguments passed in. Is there a command similar to shell's "$#" for batch files? ps. the closest i've found is to iterate through the %1s and use 'shift', but I need to refernece %1,%2 etc later in the script so that's no good.

  (Followup to this question) After surviving the first wave of incoming shipments (9 hours of copy/paste), I now believe I have all the requirements. Here is the updated workflow: Monkey collects email attachments (4 Excel spreadsheets, 1 PDF) Monkey creates central database, does complex calculations (right now this is also an Excel spreadsheet) Monkey sends data to two bosses, who set the retail prices independently; first one to reply wins Monkey sends order form to our other warehouses, also Excel Monkey sends spreadsheets to VIP customers, carefully sanitized and formatted (4 different discount categories) Jurily enters the data into the accounting system. I've given up on automating this part, there's too much business logic involved, and the database is a pile of sh^W legacy My question: What technologies would you use for a quick and dirty solution? I'm mostly sold on C#, but coming from a Linux/C++ background, I'm horribly confused about my choices in Microsoft-land. For bonus points: How would you redesign the whole system from the ground up? P.S. in case you were wondering, my job title is System Administrator.

• starting subactivity for the second time causes java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

  Hi there, I am developing a simple app which does a little bit of image-processing. It's divided in two activities; the main one with some display elements and the second one which is used to capture images off the phone's camera. To discribe my problem: I start the app, capture an image (by starting a new Intent with the subactivity) and all data is displayed correctly. If I capture another image after this, I run in an java.lang.OutOfMemoryError - bitmap size exceeds VM budget I dont store the captured bitmap, in the second activity I just extract some data from it and pass it to the main-activity; finishing (finish()) the sub-activity afterwards. I really dont know what I can do about it. • Confused with the Isolated Storage with Multiple Assemblies Access

  I googled and searched a lot, but I got no luck. I have a WindowsFormsApplication.exe and ConsoleApplication.exe. I want both of them to access to the same IsolatedStorage, is it possible? I tried using this in ConsoleApplication.exe: IsolatedStorageFile isoStore = IsolatedStorageFile.GetMachineStoreForApplication(); but I got: IsolatedStorageException: Unable to determine application identity of the caller. How can I fix this? Or can I use this way? P.S.: This is NOT a ClickOnce app.

• C#: How to Make it Harder for Hacker/Cracker to Get Around or Bypass the Licensing Check?

  Hi all, Suppose that the user has saved the License file under the Application.StartupPath, where all users can read. And then, every time when the app starts, it will check if it can find and verify the license file. If the app can find and verify, we let the user to continue with full functinalities. If not, we prompt a MessageBox showing "Unlicencsed, continue to use with trial version, functionalities limited." My question is, if I'm a hacker/cracker, I would try to get around or bypass the licensing check instead of cracking the license file, because, if we use RSA signature, it's very difficult to crack a license file. • How to draw Wingdings 2 characters outside of the 0..255 range in .NET?

  The standard windows Charmap utility shows quite a few characters in the "Wingdings 2" font whose character codes are greater than 255 - for example, 0xE4E shows a hand. However, if I try to draw these characters as follows: g.DrawString(new string((char) 0xE4E, 1), new Font("Wingdings 2", 20), brush, x, y); then all I get is a standard "box" replacement character. This is weird, because the above code works for Wingdings 2 symbols between 0x21 and 0xFF, and also works for ALL symbols in, say, Arial Unicode MS. How can I draw those characters from this particular font? Is there a separate API? (Win7; .NET 3.5 SP1) P.S. Here's the weird Character Map font with the duplicated character ranges:

• Script or automate feature class creation in ESRI/ArcSDE

  I'm looking for info on how to write SQL scripts to automate the creation of a versioned feature class in ArcSDE I want to be able to automate the process itself as well as put the scripts under version control. Can anyone point me to a resource that explains how to do this? Is this even possible? It seems like there are lots of interrelationships between tables and data when a feature class is added. P.S. It doesn't have to be pure SQL, but it should be some kind of scripting so we can save to version control and run outside of ESRI desktop tools.

• MySQL query cache vs caching result-sets in the application layer

  I'm running a php/mysql-driven website with a lot of visits and I'm considering the possibility of caching result-sets in shared memory in order to reduce database load. However, right now MySQL's query cache is enabled and it seems to be doing a pretty good job since if I disable query caching, the use of CPU jumps to 100% immediately. Given that situation, I dont know if caching result-sets (or even the generated HTML code) locally in shared memory with PHP will result in any noticeable performace improvement. Does anyone out there have any experience on this matter? PS: Please avoid suggesting heavy-artillery solutions like memcached. Right now I'm looking for simple solutions that dont require too much time to implement, deploy and maintain.
