• Ways not to write function headers twice?

  Hi, I've got a C/C++ question, can I reuse functions across different object files or projects without writing the function headers twice? (one for defining the function and one for declaring it) I don't know much about C/C++, Delphi and D. I assume that in Delphi or D, you would just write once what arguments a function takes and then you can use the function across diferent projects. And in C you need the function declaration in header files *again??, right?. Is there a good tool that will create header files from C sources? I've got one, but it's not preprocessor-aware and not very strict. And I've had some macro technique that worked rather bad. I'm looking for ways to program in C/C++ like described here http://www.digitalmars.com/d/1.0/pretod.html

I have sth like that: I want to build function that will take two argument and return one number: In actual code those binary numers will be in hex. I put them there like that so that it's easier for you to visualize it.   Am I missing something or there really is no support for generic object type hinting in PHP 5.x? I find it really strange that hinting arrays is supported while hinting objects is not, at least not out of the box. I'd like to have something like this: function foo(object $o) Just as we have: function foo(array $o) Example of possible use: methods of an objects collection class. Workaround: using an interface "Object" implemented by all classes or extending all classes from a generic class "Object" and writing something like this: function foo(Object $o) Well, that just ain't cute.   Ok, I'm looking into using create_function for what I need to do, and I don't see a way to define default parameter values with it. Is this possible? If so, what would be the best approach for inputting the params into the create_function function in php? Perhaps using addslashes? Well, for example, I have a function like so: function testing($param1 = 'blah', $param2 = array()) { if($param1 == 'blah') return $param1 else { $notblah = ''; if (count($param2) >= 1) { foreach($param2 as $param) $notblah .= $param; return $notblah; } else return 'empty'; } } Ok, so how would I use create_function to do the same thing, adding the parameters and their default values? The thing is, the parameters are coming from a TEXT file, as well as the function itself. So, wondering on the best approach for this using create_function and how exactly the string should be parsed. Thanks :)

  Hi, I am trying to call a javascript function from a hyperlink that is part of the content in a qTip. I keep getting the error my function is not defined but it is defined within the page and can be called outside of qTip. Below is what I have so far: function addTooltip() { $("#mycontent").qtip({ content: 'mylink' }); } function tester() { alert("hello world"); } If I put the alert within the onClick attribute, I at least get the alert to work. Is there some special way of calling a function from within qTip? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  I have a MustInherit Parent class with two Child classes which Inherit from the Parent. How can I use (or Cast) Me in a Parent function as the the child type of that instance? EDIT: My actual goal is to be able to serialize (BinaryFormatter.Serialize(Stream, Object)) either of my child classes. However, "repeating the code" in each child "seems" wrong. EDIT2: This is my Serialize function. Where should I implement this function? Copying and pasting to each child doesn't seem right, but casting the parent to a child doesn't seem right either.   Is it possible to set a default behaviour for custom (non-native) methods/functions in Java? For example, I would like to change the default "Function" to do a System.out.println("message") whenever called. So, when a custom method/function is being created: public String testMethod() { //custom code } it should execute the newly added default behaviour (in this case the system output), before the custom code is run. Even if this would be a bad excercise, is it possible? Maybe by extending the function class or something?

  I don't quite know how to ask this question, so I'll phase it as an example: Imagine in an application you have a Country object. There are two properties of this object: Name, and a 'Bordering Countries' collection. More properties might be added later, but it will be the kind of information that would change very rarely (e.g. changes of country names/borders) Lets say this application needs to know about all of the countries in the world. Where would you store these object's state? How would you new them up? It seems silly to store all this state in the DB, since it won't change very often. One option might be to have an abstract 'country' base object, and have a class for each country inheriting from this with the details of each country. But this doesn't seem quite right to me. What is the proper way of dealing with these kinds of objects?

  To make an OO system as decoupled as possible, I'm thinking of the following approach: 1) we run an RMI/directory like service where objects can register and discover each other. They talk to this service through an interface 2) we run a messaging service to which objects can publish messages, and register subscription callbacks. Again, this happens through interfaces 3) when object A wants to invoke a method on object B, it discovers the target object's unique identity through #1 above, and publishes a message on the message service for object B 4) message services invokes B's callback to give it the message 5) B processes the request and sends the response for A on message service 6) A's callback is called and it gets the response. I feel this system is as decoupled as practically possible, but it has the following problems: 1) communication is typically asynchronous 2) hence it's non real time 3) the system as a whole is less efficient. Are there any other practical problems where this design obviously won't be applicable ? What are your thoughts on this design in general ?

• Drupal 6 devel module dd() function not writing to drupal_debug.txt file

  I am running a local development Drupal site on a Windows machine. I am trying to use the dd($data, $label = NULL) function from the devel module to help debug. Using this function, should write debug info to a drupal_debug.txt file in the /tmp folder on the machine where the Drupal site is hosted. On my Windows machine, although I am using this function, the drupal_debug.txt file is not getting created anywhere, leading me to believe I am using the function incorrectly. Here is a snippet of how I am using it, <?php $test = "this is my test"; dd($test, $label = NULL); I am looking for an example of the correct syntax for the dd($data, $label = NULL) function. I have the Devel module enabled.

• I'm using the jQuery .scroll() function, why can't I override its effects with another function?

  I'm using the jQuery .scroll() function to make a certain element fade to 0.2 opacity. Since there is no native "scrollstop" indicator, I decided to make the element fade back to 1.0 opacity on hover. However, it doesn't work. Here's my code: $(document).ready(function() { $(window).scroll(function() { $("#navlist").animate({ opacity: 0.2 }, 2000); }); $("#navlist").hover( function() { $(this).animate({ opacity: 1 }, 500); }, function() { $(this).animate({ opacity: 1 }, 500); // just to be safe? } ); }); When I scroll, the #navlist element fades, but when you hover over it nothing happens. But if you refresh the page when you're half way down, the element automatically fades as soon as you refresh, before I've scrolled, and if you try to hover to fade it back in, nothing happens. Any thoughts?

I am trying to make IE7 call function onchange I had a whole solution working but since IE7 does not like .change() i am going to put onchange attributes within the inputs but now i have this issue.   I inherited a Zend project devoid of comments and I didn't get to talk to the previous developer. Since I have no Zend experience I'm having some issues :) I'd like to print out some variables inside an function that indexes items from the site using Zend_Search_Lucene because I think something is going wrong here. From what I've read, ::create creates a new index and ::open updates it. So it's in this ::open function I'd like to print out some variables. The name and params of the function are below. Does anyone have any idea how this function can be called so I can run some tests? private function search($category,$string,$page = 1,$itemsByPage = 5) EDIT: OR, is there a way I can nuke the existing index and force it to be rebuilt completely, for example by deleting the index files on the FS and then performing some searches?

• Ext.app.application object is erased after initialization

  I am trying to organize an existing extjs code in a more standard order (extjs wise). extjs version: extjs-4.0.2a. I've worked through the Extjs tutorial example and every thing went well. When I started working on the company's code I've notice there is no use of the application object there for I've added the Ext.application({...}); call. Ext.application({ name: 'FOO', appFolder: 'appFolderName', launch: function() { console.log('application was created'); } }); Upon loading the page I see the console.log output that is included in the "launch" function property - meaning the application object is created but when I look for it ("FOO" object) under the "window" object it is not there. Compering to the tutorial code the application object exist as a property of window. I encounter a few loading problems but I'm guessing the source of it all is this issue. What am I doing wrong? thanks.

• Object pointer value as key into dictionary

  I want to use the object's reference value as a key into a dictionary, as opposed to a copy of value of the object. So, I essentially want to store an object associated with a particular instance of another object in a dictionary and retrieve that value later. Is this possible? Is it completely against the idea of NSDictionary? I can tell that I am probably approaching this the wrong way because the dictionary wants me to implement NSCopying on the object itself, which doesn't really make sense in terms of what I'm doing. I can see that what I should really be doing is wrapping the pointer value, but that seems a little mad. Advice would be appreciated.

• Web Service returning object with null fields

  Never seen this one before. WebService.Implementation imp = new WebService.Implementation(); WebService.ImplementationRequest req = new WebService.ImplementationRequest(); return imp.GetValue(req); The object that imp returns is not null. It's returning an ImplementationResponse, as expected. But all of the fields in that object are null. Which is not expected. The WebService, currently, just returns some constant dummy data. We've tested this on another developer's machine, works just fine. I suppose I should also note that the WebService should throw an exception if I pass null into the GetValue method. It doesn't. Not for me. Any idea what could be wrong with my environment that could make a WebService return an object, but make every value in that object null? And somehow 'magically' return this mystery object when it should be throwing an exception?

• Not loading the object caused EF4 (code first) to remove the relationship

  Firstly this is a EF4: Code First - Property Loading question. I'm loading an object like so var item = Context.Table.Find( update.Identifier ); This object has a property Relationship so a table has a Relationship object. Now i'm updating my item but my Relationship object is not toched (and therefore not lazy loaded). Now here's the problem .. I save my item and my relationship to the Relationship object is deleted, apparently the model thinks i set it to null. However it all works if I look at the property before saving. So I'm looking into LoadProperty or doing a query and using Include. Has anyone else come across this issue and how did you get around it?
