  In native development, you can produce libraries - .so, .dll etc - that other libraries and programs can share. In Java, you can put your code in a JAR in the classpath and other programs and libraries can use it. So how can you do modular programs in Android? I get the impression from the documentation that each APK is a self-contained island. Can different APKs share code? And how does installation work when you have these external dependencies? Can you specify that you rely on library that is not in your APK and get it installed too? If you can't have 'dynamic linking', can you have 'static linking' by developing your shared code and somehow putting the equiv of a JAR into each APK that requires it?

• Detailed change history of .NET framework versions?

  I am looking for a detailed change history (including bugfixes) of all .NET framework versions, especially the changes between 2.0 and 3.5 SP1. I know that something like that exists for v2.0 and v1.1, and for v4.0. However, I could not find a history for v3.0 and v3.5/SP1. Background: (slightly edited) We are having issues somewhere between deserialization of some XML data (using XmlReader) and the display of the data in the UI. These problems appear when we use .NET 3.5 SP1, but we did not have them in v2.0. Now, I would like to know if this is related to some change/bugfix in the framework, or if this is related to some other difference. Unfortunately, we do not have the source code of that piece of software, and most of the software is written using native C++/MFC, except for the deserialization part which is .NET.

• How to verify a digital signature with openssl

  I'm using a thirdparty credit card processing service (Paybox) that, after a successful transaction, redirects back to the website with a signature in the URL as a security measure to prevent people from manipulating data. It's supposed to prove that the request originated from this service. So my success URL looks something like this: /success.php?signature=[HUGE HASH] I have no idea where to start with verifying this signature. This service does provide a public key, and I assume I need to create a private key, but I don't know much beyond that. I'm pretty good with linux, and I know I'll have to run some openssl commands. I'm writing the verification script in PHP, which also has native openssl() functions. If anyone could please push me in the right direction with some pseudo code, or even functional code, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

• Intermittent NoClassDefFoundError error running Selenium JUnit tests

  For some time, I've been running a substantial set of JUnit / Selenium tests against a number of platforms on a nightly basis. Intermittently (about once in every 40 runs), all the tests for a given platform fail with a NoClassDefFoundError on the common superclass of all my tests as follows. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: [common super class of all my selenium tests] at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:2389) at java.lang.Class.getConstructors(Class.java:1459) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:513) Re-invoking the tests will generally get the tests running normally, so it's clearly something dependent on some condition I am not considering. • Does C++11 offer a better way to concatenate strings on the fly?

  I've seen this answer, and I wonder (I hope) if C++11 has come up with a native better method to concatenate, and possibly format, strings. With "better" I mean actually really one-line, like in pretty much all higher level languages (bonus points if it supports something like python's "formatted string"%(tuple) syntax but I guess that's really hoping for too much). The ideal result should be something like: my_func("bla bla bla" << int(my_int) << "bla bla bla"); The only barely acceptable methods listed in that answer are the fastformat ones, but I wonder if C++11 managed to do better.

• Thread local storage with __declspec(thread) fails in C++/CLI

  I'm working on a project where we mix .NET code and native C++ code via a C++/CLI layer. In this solution I want to use Thread Local Storage via the __declspec(thread) declaration: __declspec(thread) int lastId = 0; However, at the first access of the variable, I get a NullReferenceException. To be more precise, the declaration is done within a ref class (a .NET class implemented in C++/CLI). I have already read something about __declspec(thread) does not work with delay loaded DLLs. Am I using delay loaded DLLs automatically if I use .NET?

  What is the most performant way of displaying a table of data in Flex? Are there alternatives to the native Flex Datagrid Component? Alternatives that are noted for their rendering speed? Are there other ways to display a table? I have a datagrid with roughly 70 lines and 7 columns of simple text data. This is currently created and loaded in memory. This is being refreshed rapidly (about 800 msec) and there is a slight lag in other animations when it is rendering the table... So I am trying to cut down this render time.

  edit Found my answers here. Bottom line: toString/valueOf can only return primitive types. So here the lack of native getters in javascript shows, I suppose.   How does ML perform the type inference in the following function definition: let add a b = a + b Is it like C++ templates where no type-checking is performed until the point of template instantiation after which if the type supports the necessary operations, the function works or else a compilation error is thrown ? i.e. for example, the following function template template <typename NumType> NumType add(NumType a, NumType b) { return a + b; } will work for add<int>(23, 11); but won't work for add<ostream>(cout, fout); Is what I am guessing is correct or ML type inference works differently? • Improve performance of sorting files by extension

  With a given array of file names, the most simpliest way to sort it by file extension is like this: Array.Sort(fileNames, (x, y) => Path.GetExtension(x).CompareTo(Path.GetExtension(y))); The problem is that on very long list (~800k) it takes very long to sort, while sorting by the whole file name is faster for a couple of seconds! Theoretical, there is a way to optimize it: instead of using Path.GetExtension() and compare the newly created extension-only-strings, we can provide a Comparison than compares starting from the LastIndexOf('.') without creating new strings. Now, suppose i found the LastIndexOf('.'), i want to reuse native .NET's StringComparer and apply it only to the part on string after the LastIndexOf('.'). Didn't found a way to do that. Any ideas?

• Need to map classes to different databases at runtime in Hibernate

  I have MainDB database and unknown number (at compile time) of UserDB_1, ..., UserDB_N databases. MainDB contains names of those UserDB databases in some table (new UserDB can be created at runtime). All UserDB have exactly the same table names and fields. How to handle such situation in Hibernate? (database structure cannot be changed). Currently I am planning to create generic User classes not mapped to anything and just use native SQL for all queries: session.createSQLQuery("select * from " + db + ".user where id=1") .setResultTransformer(Transformers.aliasToBean(User.class)); Is there anything better I can do? Ideally I would want to have mappings for UserDB tables and relations and use HQL on required database.

• Why is Window.open()'s return type void ?

  Doing something like this is perfectly permissible in javascript: var newWindow = window.open(...) However, this does not work in the senario of GWT (I am using 1.5 I dont know about later versions), Window window = Window.open("", "", ""); Throws me a compile time error that the open is a method with a return type as void. Why should it be void ? What if i want to close my popup from the main Window ? how do I get its handle ? I will have to resort to native javascript no doubt but i was just curious so as to why this is so...

• ListView not showing up in fragment

  When I insert a listview in a fragment in my application, it doesn't show up after I populate it with items. In fact, the application crashes due to a NullPointerException. Can anybody help me? • Getting WAP embedded video in android AND iphone?

  Recently a client asked me to make their site "work on smart phones", which normally wouldn't be too much of an issue... However it's a video site, and I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. Right off the bat I'm not even going to consider allowing the site to even function in anything other than Android (Maybe even 2.0+) and iPhone, maybe Blackberry and WinMo. But beyond that... What do I do? I'm looking at using the tag, however I'm unsure what, if any, codecs which phone uses. Is HTML5 even adopted in their browsers yet? Could someone please point me in the right direction? Am I going about this the right way, using the tag? Or is there some magical html element both iPhone and Android (And BB and WMo) that lets them run video in their native video players (Like on youtube).

• How to debug an App on Android with GDBSERVER?

  I'm trying to debug a native shared library that my App uses through JNI. I can attach to a running app just fine with "gdbserver --attach pid" but i need to actually launch my app when i launch the gdbserver command. There's a million blog hits on this topic but none of them seem to be clear as to how you launch your app. They all say to just type "gdbserver 10.0.2.2:1234 ./MyProgram" but what exactly is "MyProgram". Is that MyProgram.apk? Is it MyProgram.so? Is it some other file that gets created when the app is installed? If so, what's its path?

• Building XCode From Command Line Issues (Updating Entitlements file location)

  The first error is a warning for complier 'com.apple.compilers.gcc.4_0' I don't know if this is okay and I can just not worry about it. The second tells me that my entitlements file is no longer at that location. I know this and I thought I had correctly updated it in Xcode's info window. This project builds fine in Xcode.   I am trying to use notepad++ as my all-in-one tool edit, run, compile etc. I have jre installed, i have setup my path variable to .../bin directory. When I run my "Hello world" in notepad++ , I get this message: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: test_hello_world : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassCond(Unknown Source) ......................................... I think the problem here is about versions, some version of java may be old or too new. how do i fix it? should i install jdk , and setup my path variable to JDK instead of jre? difference between PATH variable in jre or jdk?

• EASY: How does one release memory correctly in the attached C array?
