• ASP MVC: Keeping track of logged in users.

  I'm creating a ASP MVC application. And because of the complex authorization i'm trying to build my own login system. (So i'm not using asp membership providers, and related classes). Now i'm able to create new accounts in the database with hashed passwords. But how do i keep track that a user is logged in. Is generating a long random number and putting this with the userID in the database and cookie enough? Sorry for my rather bad english! Ty in advance :)

• How to implement dual communication between server and client via http

  I have a AJAX client which must receive messages from server. Some messages from server not like request-response type. For example, imaging game in which players can enter. Server must send to client info about player entering. But how can server send message to client via http without request from client? Only decision that i can invent: client send request to server (getNewPlayerEnter request) with big timeout, server checks state of player set, if in set new players are, then server send info to client, if not server 'sleeps' on some time, and after 'sleeping' server checks players set again. I think my desicion a little stupid(maybe not little). How implement it right? p.s. sorry for my english

  Currently, if I change the locale setting of my application by Locale.setDefault(Locale.ENGLISH); Locale.setDefault(Locale.SIMPLIFIED_CHINESE); What I understand from this JFreeChart forum is that, I am not using correct font. Once you get the reference of the LegentTitle, you can set it to any font. Apparently, JFreeChart's default is "Tahoma" and it doesn't support Chinese characters. May I know, how I can programmatic determine, as list of available Fonts in my system, which support Chinese? I can hard code it to Serif (It fully support Chinese, doesn't it?), its look n feel doesn't looks good to me. I would like to have more choices.

• Need help in downloading file with header() function

  Hi. I'm trying to explain as best as I can, sorry for my English. I have a list of links, each linked to a php file with an id by parameters (ex. download.php?id=1 or ?id=2 and so on). This file create a new instance of a class witch return the correct header of the files so it displays the save dialog box of the browser. Now I need to check if the files is already downloaded in past (The first time you downloaded it I add a field on the mysql db). This checks go ahead if you haven't download the files, else return false. Here is the problem, when it returns false or something else the browser redirect me to the download.php file, so I get a blank page or what I'm echoing. I need that if the file is already download it show me a js alert for advice ppl. Hope you can understand what i mean. Thanks for help

  Sorry for bad English :( Suppose i can preliminary organize recipes and ingredients data in any way. How can i effectively conduct search of recipes by user-provided ingredients, preferably sorted by max match - so, first going recipes that use maximum of provided ingridients and do not contain any other ingrs, after them recipes that uses less of provided set and still not any other ingrs, after them recipes with minimum additional requirements and so on? All i can think about is represent recipe ingridients like bitmasks, and compare required bitmask with all recipes, but it is obviously a bad way to go. And related things like Levenstein distance i don't see how to use here. I believe it should be quite common task...

• QLocale, what is the scope of the global QLocale::setDefault()?

  Problem: I have a QT based multiplatform (win,mac,*nix) application that parses ascii files containing decimal numbers. parsing is done using a variety of different code pieces that use anything from qt string stuff, c++ stdin, oldstyle scanf, etc. ascii files have always the '.' (dot) as separated decimal (e.g. in the file to be parsed 1/10 is written 0.1 as standard in many countries). people using the application within a OS localized for using comma separated decimal encounter a lot of problems (e.g. for french users scanf expect to find 0,1 as a valid textual representation of 1/10 and if they find 0.1 scanf will parse it as 0) How can I be sure that the OS Locale indication of how decimal point has to be written is always ignored? Is it safe assuming that adding QLocale::setDefault(QLocale(QLocale::English,QLocale::UnitedStates)); is enough to get rid of all these problems? Any suggestion for portable ways of setting the locale globally?

• modify the name of the :id to :another_id in rails 3

  Well I googled my question but I couldn't find anything or I it's not the correct question.. The issue is I need modify the primary_key name of the database :id with :another_id, in my project I need to use pgrouting and it contains several plsql functions and these functions uses the primary-key with the name gid and instead of modify the plsql functions is better change the id name, and I was thinking do this with a migration becouse I thought it's the rails way.   First I am a complete novice and need answers in plain and simple terms. I am trying to get the users manual for my Samsung galaxy s4 phone. Samsung "help" sent me a link to click but when I received it it was in Spanish tho the doc I'd said "english". The Samsung support line timed me out because I couldn't type fast enough when I told them I received it in Spanish. I explored the translator and didn't see how to translate a doc. Asked Google how to get the manual they gave a different doc I'd and sent it to clipboards. How can I read it? Now what? Tried to send this message and asking me for a tag and I have no idea what that means so I just clicked one. That's why I need the manual so desperately.   I've got blocks of text with various specs in them and want to have jquery highlight whatever matches a specific pattern without inserting any extra html. The following is the kind of text that I've got to work with.   PHP has many built-in functions to validate numbers but they all expect input in computer format: 1234.56. I need to validate stuff like 1,234.56 (English) or 1.234,56 (Spanish), together with some typical attributes (accepted range, max number of decimals, etc.). I started writing my own function but I soon got lost. It's easy to read the user input into a float variable but I want to be able to detect numbers with invalid formats like 1,23456.7 or 1..25. Do you have any recommendation on the subject? (Decimal and thousand characters are known beforehand and it's okay to hard-code digit groups as three, there's no need to cover Indian number format.)

  Hello, I have an application that contains 3 activities A, B and C. The activity A is the one that gets started when I start my app. From A I start B using startActivity(A.this, B.class), this goes well. What goes wrong is when I want to start the activity C from B. this how the manifestfile looks like: <activity android:name=".B"/> <activity android:name=".C"/> I know that I can do the follwoings: start B from A and then from B go back to A and then start C or let B has its own manifestfile thus a stand lone app, and let C be an activity within this app. Any suggestion is welcome. • MySQL query optimization.

  I'm so bad in making good MySQL queries. I've created this one: http://pastebin.com/GtDfgky8 products Table have about 17k rows, allegro Table have about 3k of rows. The query Idea is select all products, where stock_quanity 3, where is photo, and where is no product id in allegro table. Now query takes about 10 seconds... I have no idea how I can optimize this query. Please help my, I'll be thankfully! :) & Sorry for my bad English also

• Crowdsourcing translation for mobile developers?

  I am developing applications for mobile phones with different operating systems (Android, Symbian, iPhone). Applications are sold internationally so they need to be translated to different languages in addition to english version. I assume most mobile developers do the translations using some paid external service each time. This approach does not look very cost-effective to me. Would it make sense to have a website where simple translations would be done using crowdsourcing (other developers)? Most strings in mobile applications are very simple and short, for example "OK, "Cancel", "Are you sure?", "Please enter your password". Also the same strings are used in hundreds of applications. Instead of paying for translating all strings, developers could save money by only buying their difficult application specific translations. Does anyone agree with this idea? I have seen many opensource projects doing the translations succesfully using volunteers.

  I would like to create a RegEx to match only english alphanumeric characters but ignore (or discard) isolated numbers in Ruby (and if possible in JS too).   I have created some JavaScript files and they run well from my Mac OS X Server. Now I have put the same JavaScript files on my MS Server 2003. But they don't work. Do I have to install something on the server in order to get them work? EDIT: (Sorry, I'm new and English is not my native language, so its hard for me to describe the situation well) I have downloaded this free Ajax Chat app. After enabling PHP on my Mac, it worked. But on my MS Windows 2003 Server it doesn't work. I installed PHP and Apache on Windows. PHP and Apache work well. I have a problem I really can't fix: I have a <table> of questions, the first question is visible (class:visible), the others are hidden (class:hidden) $(document).ready(function(){ $('.hidden').hide(); When people click on the first question, I want the second question to appear (and the first question to turn to grey, using a 'done' class). $('.visible:not(.done)').click(function(){ $(this).addClass('done'); $('.hidden:first').toggle(500).removeClass('hidden').addClass('visible'); }) The first question is now done (class:done) and the 2nd question should be the only one to react to a click(), and so on... But it doesn't work: the other <tr> appear only when I click on the 1st <tr>. Can someone give me a hand on this problem ? Thank you.
