• Forced to use Outlook Web Access, what are my options?

  My company just enforced an OWA update and disabled IMAP and POP3 access. I don't want to use the webmail, do I have any options? Forwarding is also disabled. I also don't look forward to installing thunderbird or anything else, which is what colleagues are doing. I'd be interested in running some sort of automation script that either forwards the emails, or notifies me somehow that there has been some activity. Disclaimer: This does not concern any illegal activity, as I work at a school. They are not explicitly preventing me from circumventing their bogus security imposition and have given me permission to do so, 'if I can find a way'. Which of course makes me want to do it even more.

• What options exist when the vendor does not supply an ADB driver for an Android device?

  So I bought an Android phone and the vendor does not offer any drivers whatsoever. The Android SDK and the drivers that come with it don't seem to work with the device, but the device itself reports as Android 2.2.1. Other users have reported that the drivers of the Nook Color worked for them, but I cannot confirm this, after trying. What options do I have to connect to the device (and ultimately to root it)? Is it truly just the .inf file that I need to manipulate in order to make the device ID known to Windows? After all there are tools to figure out those strings while the device is connected (although "unknown") ...

• Can I add right-click options in Google Chrome?

  In Google Chrome, if I select a piece of text and right click on it, I get the option to: 'Search Google for [text]' I find this extremely useful but I'd also like to be able to add my own options. For example, I'd like to add the ability to search amazon.co.uk using the selected text or go straight to Google maps using the selected text (i.e. an address or postcode) and so on. I can sort of add this functionality using PhraseExpress but would rather be able to do it straight from Chrome - is it possible?

• What are my options for a secure External File Share in Server 2008 R2?

  Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine installed on a home network with a number of files that need to be shared in a few different scenarios. I would like for all three scenarios to have a solution with some sort of encyption to protect the data during transfer. Scenario 1: I need to access files from my laptop (Mac OSX) or another computer outside of the network. This option seems like the easy one to answer in that I could use LogMeIn, the windows VPN, etc. to create such a connection. Scenario 2: I need to provide access to another user with minimal installation / configuration on his or her end. This makes me think of the new FTP 7.5 provided with Server 2008 R2 but i'm not sure of the details: Does it support SSH or some other form of encryption?, can an OSX user connect?, etc. My question here is what are my options? I really just don't know where to get started...

  Hi, I'd like to re-submit here a question posted by Benjol on Aug 17at 5:57 "Moving users folder on Windows Vista to another partition - bad idea?" (I can't post one than one link until I earn "10 reputation" and removed my "answer" there to post my follow-up questions here). I am anxiously getting ready at long last to to carry out a clean install (using custom install option) from Vista to Windows-7 Home Premium 64bit with the free upgrade I received late October. For my Vista system I successfully set-up last Summer a multi-partitions scheme with Users and Program Data on a a different partition than the operating system (see link below, and its subsequent links in my comment for details). http://tuts4tech.net/2009/08/05/windows-7-move-the-users-and-program-files-directories-to-a-different-partition/comment-page-1/#comment-562 I was planning a similar set-up for windows 7, a little more streamlined, with OS, Program Files on C:, Users and Program Data on D:, and TV media recording on a separate partition. Reading the Question submitted by Benjol, I am second guessing too. Is moving Users and Program Data on a different partition than the default primary partition with OS and Program Files such a good idea? The couple of people I talked to at the official Microsoft Windows 7 booth at CES 2010 gave the same answer to the intention of moving the Users profile folder to another partition. In a nutshell, they all told me that they used to do this in XP and less in Vista but not anymore with Windows 7... "It is stable, after two months still no problem" I had the feeling it was a scripted answer to emphasize how Windows 7 is so stable and efficient... (Will Windows-7 system not become bugged down over the course of several months to a year or two? Only time will tell) Long story short, I share the same view than Benjol expressed with respect to being "able to backup and restore system and user data independently." I just received a 2TB usb2, eSATA external hard drive as a back-up drive, which includes NTI Shadow 4 (4.1.0.150) for back-up solution. I took note of the issue with NTUSER.DAT and I will read more about Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) for Windows 7. I am willing to put the effort if placing Users and Program Data on a different partition would allow to restore a fresher OS+Program image when the system gets bugged down. Questions: Is it such a bad idea? What is the "easy route" referred by Benjol in his post? Is it to just relocate folders to another partition using the Folder property tool? (It is not practical for several users and might not provide a straightforward restore process of just OS and Program Files when needed.) I am starting to learn about Windows 7 libraries. Would Windows 7 libraries be another alternative to achieve this? All this reading to decide how to organize the partition scheme for my custom system is starting to be confusing. I apologize for this lengthy Question. It is my first day here on SuperUser and I am just learning how different from a discussion thread it is. • Receiving "Path 'OPTIONS' is forbidden." Exception in ASP.NET website

  I am getting the error "Path 'OPTIONS' is forbidden." since we moved our website over to a new server setup. I am unable to recreate the error but I am receiving emails for this exception at least a few times a day. Any ideas what could be causing this and how I can fix it? EDIT: Stack Trace: at System.Web.HttpMethodNotAllowedHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) There are no directories or files named OPTIONS and I believe all permissions are correct. I am finding some information about a possible link to EXCEL getting data from the webserver, but nothing that full explains how or what is happening yet.   So far in my web developing experiences, I've noticed that almost all web developers/designers choose to give their options in a select a value like so: <select name="foo"> <option value="bar">BarCheese</option> // etc. // etc. </select> Is this because it is best practice to do so? I ask this because I have done a lot of work with jQuery and dropdown's lately, and sometimes I get really annoyed when I have to check something like: $('select[name=foo]').val() == "bar"); To me, many times that seems less clear than just being able to check the val() against BarCheese. So why is it that most web developers/designers specify a value paramater instead of just letting the options actual value be its value?

• Magento: Configurable product options not showing on a view page?

  I have multi-store Magento system and strange things happen when i try to see a configurable product on my main store - the options select lists don't show up at all! And that is the case for the 95% of the products on the main store. But on the other stores it works fine?! I can't see what am I doing wrong. All my products are configurable, all have set simple products with options attached to them, all are set to be visible on all stores (WebsiteIds attribute), all are enabled on all stores, all simple products are in stock and have some stock quantity set. I think if I've done something wrong it would be like that on all stores, not just the main one. I'm totally clueless, please help. • Platform Builder: Cloning – the Linker is your Friend

  I was tasked this week with making a minor change to NetMsgBox() behavior. NetMsgBox() is a little function in NETUI that handles MessageBox() for the Network User Interface.  The obvious solution is to clone the entire NETUI directory from Public\Common\Oak\Drivers (see Platform Builder: Clone Public Code for more on cloning). If you haven’t already, take a minute to look in that folder. There are a lot of files in the folder, but I only needed to modify one function in one of those files. There must be a better way. Enter the linker. Instead of cloning the entire folder, here is what I did: Create a new folder in my Platform named NETUI (but the name isn’t important) Copy the C file that I needed to modify to the new folder, in this case netui.c Copy a makefile from one of the other folder (really they are all the same) Run Sysgen_capture Open a build window (see Platform Builder: Build Tools, Opening a Build Window) Change directories to the new folder Run “Sysgen_capture netui” Rename sources.netui to sources Add the C file to sources as SOURCES=netui.c Modify the code Build the code Done That is it, the functions from my new folder now replace the functions from the Public code and link with the rest to create NETUI.dll. • Finding a backup and synchronization solution

  I'm having difficulties to find a backup and synchronization solution with the following characteristics: Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, Mac Offsite backup (so Internet Backup) Data deduplication Transfer only new/modified bits of modified files Secure: Data encrypted before leaving computer Maintain multiple versions of files (even deleted files) Folder synchronization integrated with backup and across multiple computers connected to the internet (not necessarily in the same LAN) I think that the Folder Sync feature needs a better explanation. The use case is this: you have a desktop pc and a laptop. The desktop pc contains a folder with some files and this folder is part of the backup (so it was selected to be backed up). The laptop does not contain that folder or that files at all. Then you're abroad with your laptop and you need that folder. So you want to be able to open the backup program, select that folder from the backup and download it in your laptop mantaining it synchronized with the backed up version. When you then come back home and switch on your desktop pc you want the folder we're talking about to be updated in the desktop PC. Does anyone knows any service with all these features? I've only found SpiderOak to support all the features I've mentioned but I'm not completely satisfied by the time taken to complete a backup. Sometimes it seems to hang for minutes with no reasons at all and folder synchronization occurs only after all files are backed up (instead folder sync should have a separated queue independent from other backup operations and synchronization should occurs frequently... for example every 5 minutes or less, independently from the frequency of normal backup operations)

• fail2ban log parsing too slow on Raspberry Pi - options? [migrated]

  I'm running fail2ban on a Raspberry Pi at 950MHz which I cannot overclock further. The Pi is occasionally subject to SYN floods on particular ports. I've set up iptables to throttle the rate of SYNs on the port of interest; when the throttle limits are exceeded, hosts which send SYNs are dropped into the REJECT chain and the particular SYN packet which exceeded the limit is logged. fail2ban then watches for these logged SYNs and, after seeing a few, temporarily bans the host for a short time (this is a transient issue in the app I'm working with). The problem is that the SYN floods can occasionally reach rates which are too fast for fail2ban to keep up with; I'll see 20-40 log messages per second, and eventually fail2ban falls behind and becomes ineffective. To add insult to injury, it continues consuming a LOT of CPU as it tries to catch up. I have verified that DROP chained packets from hosts already banned by fail2ban are not logged, and thus do not add to its load. What are my options here? I have a few ideas, but no clear path forward. Could I make the log-parse regex "easier" so it takes fewer cycles? Would using iptables --log-prefix to put a token near the start of the log message, and/or otherwise simplifying/altering the fail2ban regex help? Here is the current fail2ban config line containing a regex: failregex = kernel:.*?SRC=(?:::f{4,6}:)?(?P<host>[\w\-.^_]+) DST.*?SYN Is there a faster way for fail2ban to watch for the packets exceeding the limits than parsing kern.log? Could fail2ban be run under PyPy instead of CPython with minimal nonstandard wizardry (the OS is Raspbian 7, so, mostly Debian 7)? Is there something better than fail2ban that I could use to watch for the packets which exceed the SYN limits, and after N exceeds in X seconds, temporarily put the offending IP into the iptables DROP bucket, and take it out when the ban timer expires? Again, I'd vastly prefer a solution that uses as much software available in Debian as possible, though I can build Debian packages in a pinch.

  I have multiple users on my home desktop. I am content with most of the default user directories, however I would like to make one change. I would like to setup a common directory for Music (ie /home/common/Music/) that is writable to all users and Nautilus/Dolphin/whatever recognizes as the user's Music directory. I know that it would involve changing the xdg user directory setup, but everything I see points that it is relative to the user's $HOME. Is there a way I can specify an absolute path?

• SSH not working over IPSec tunnel (Strongswan)

  I configured a small network on a cloud virtual machine. This virtual machine has a static IP address assigned to eth0 interface that I'll call $EXTIP. mydomain.com points to $EXTIP. Inside, I have some linux containers, that get their ip through DHCP in the Subnet 10.0.0.0/24 (i called the virtual interface nat ). They run some services that can be reached through DNAT. Then I wanted to connect to these containers through an IPSec tunnel, so I configured StrongSwan. ipsec.conf: conn %default dpdaction=none rekey=no conn remote keyexchange=ikev2 ike=######## left=[$EXTIP] leftsubnet=10.0.1.0/24,10.0.0.0/24 leftauth=pubkey lefthostaccess=yes leftcert=########.pem leftfirewall=yes leftid="#########" right=%any rightsourceip=10.0.1.0/24 rightauth=######## rightid=%any rightsendcert=never eap_identity=%any auto=add type=tunnel Everything works fine, IPSec clients get IPs of the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet and can reach the containers subnet. My problem is that I'm not able to get SSH connections over the tunnel. It simply does not work, ssh client does not produce any output. • How To Get Browser To Open From Same Folder?

  I don't know how to make the title any more clear. Let me give an example - When I want to add an image to an article on my blog, I click "Browse" button in the image uploader, and then upload the image to the blog. The problem is, when I want to upload another image to my blog, I want the browser to look into the same directory; but it's always takes me to the "Recently Used" directory. Is there a way to change this? I hope I have made myself clear enough. EDIT: I only use Chrome, so I am referring to it.

• How could I change the colour of the menu font in Lubuntu?

  I use Lubuntu 12.04 and I have become obsessed with the looks of it! There is a type of themes that I especially want to use (flat, light), all related to the Elegant brit theme. On my desktop it looks like: As I want to replace the dominating orange with blue, I would prefer even more the theme Elegant Brit re-Revisited The problem is that both of them have a problem with my system tray, a white background appears: A theme that is almost identical to the orange one, but has no problem with the system tray is called Elegant Blackle. I have tried to use this one and replaced the gtk2 folder in its main folder with the gtk2 folder from Elegant Brit re-Revisited. The result is an improvement for me, as I have eliminated a part of the orange stuff with a decent blue :). The orange now appears only with the gtk3 apps, which is rather amusing. Migrating also the gtk3 folder from the blue to the orange theme would bring the sys tray problem too: it is something related to that gtk3 folder. But this is another matter. Now I have something very close to what I want. But I especially would like to have a feature that was present in the Elegant Blackle theme and now is gone as its gtk2 folder was replaced by that of the blue theme: the black font of the menus, instead of the blueish ones. Could anyone instruct me what is to be changed in the gtk2 folder of the Elegant Brit re-Revisited theme so as to make the menus look like this (like they do in Elegant Blackle with its original gtk2 folder): and not like this? : (on my display this blue is more whitish). An alternative and ideal solution would be knowing how to edit the Elegant Brit re-Revisited theme so as to remove the systray problem or, maybe easier, to edit the orange colour of Elegant Blackle theme to as to be completely replaced by the blue of the other one.

  Since my first UUCP operation in UNIX to deliver and receive an email, I have always been challenged to find the ultimate email organizer. About a year ago, I switched to a very simple process of managing email and have found the ultimate in organization. On the craziest of days with 250+ emails, I keep my inbox empty. Here is how I do it; First, start with the following folders in your mailbox; Inbox    Archive    FollowUp    Hold Of course, all inbound emails will start in the Inbox. As you work throughout the day, follow these steps to keep your inbox empty; Read the email. Are you responsible for any action? If you are and can do it immediately, then do it. If you need to do it later, move the email to the “FollowUp” folder If you are not responsible for any action, move it to the archive folder. Use Outlook’s search to find them when you need them. If you will need to reference the email later in the week or for a short term (week or two), then move the email to the “Hold” folder As your day progresses, frequently review the FollowUp folder and accomplish the task *Notes: If I am waiting for someone to do something for me, I keep it in the FollowUp folder. As I review the folder, I am constantly reminded that there is something I am waiting on – and can send a simple reminder by forwarding the original email. I sometimes send myself a “todo” email and park it in the FollowUp folder I like to know how many emails are in the folders so I set the “Show total number of items” property on the folder to show the amount of emails.

• Can a folder on a NAS be made available as a physical drive in VMWare?

  We are currently in the process of moving from a single web server to two load balanced web servers and are facing some challenges we don't quite know how to fix. One of these is that the current single server hosts applications that write stuff to disk. The applications running on the server expects that when something is written to disk it later will in fact exist, so it's important that this premise is fulfilled with the dual server architecture as well. The dual server setup is a couple of VMWare instances with Windows Server 2008 R2 as the guest operating system. Out of the box, these instances does not share any kind of file system, so just moving the applications over would make them break since one instance would write something to the file system that doesn't exist on the other. Thus we need to share a file system between the two virtual servers. Our host has proposed to create a network share on a SAN and map this share individually on each virtual machine. This doesn't work too well due to NTFS permissions, etc., because the share needs to be accessed by several independent web applications that won't even be in the same application pool. The only solution that kind of works is to hard code an "identity" for each web application into its web.config file, but this means password in clear text which doesn't sit well with me. Since the servers are virtual, I'm thinknig: Wouldn't it be possible to make a NAS area available as a physical disk in the gues operating system somehow? Since VMWare has full control of the virtual hardware, you'd think it would be able to "fake" a local hard drive in the virtual machine that in reality is a folder on a NAS, but so far I haven't found anything that states how and if this is possible. So I have to ask the wonderful Server Fault community: Can a folder on a NAS be made available as a physical drive (typical D:) in both of the virtual machines?
