  • pfSense 2.1 OpenVPN client not using tunnelled interface

    - by Brian M. Hunt
I'm having some trouble getting OpenVPN working on my pfSense box. The issue is quite strange to me. When I have the OpenVPN turned on, only my router is able to connect to the Internet. From the router I can use ping, links, etc., and connections work exactly as expected - through the VPN, with the IP address assigned by my VPN provider (Proxy.sh, incidentally). However, none of the clients on the local network can connect to the Internet. I get timeouts when using ping or a web browser. I can ping my router, and the IP address of the gateway. When I switch the default gateway from the VPN to my ISP's gateway, all works exactly as expected. Here the routing table (netstat -r) when in VPN mode, and a key for it: IPv4 Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Mtu Netif Expire 0.0.0.0/1 10.XX.X.53 UGS 0 122 1500 ovpnc1 = default 10.XX.X.53 UGS 0 235 1500 ovpnc1 8.8.8.8 10.XX.X.53 UGHS 0 82 1500 ovpnc1 10.XX.X.1/32 10.11.0.53 UGS 0 0 1500 ovpnc1 10.XX.X.53 link#12 UH 0 0 1500 ovpnc1 10.XX.X.54 link#12 UHS 0 0 16384 lo0 ZZ.XX.XXX.0/20 link#1 U 0 83 1500 re0 ZZ.XX.XXX.XXX link#1 UHS 0 0 16384 lo0 127.0.0.1 link#9 UH 0 12 16384 lo0 128.0.0.0/1 10.11.0.53 UGS 0 123 1500 ovpnc1 192.168.1.0/24 link#11 U 0 1434 1500 ue0 192.168.1.1 link#11 UHS 0 0 16384 lo0 YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY/32 ZZ.XX.XXX.1 UGS 0 249 1500 re0 IP addresses 10.XX.X.53/54 - My DHCP-assigned IP address/pair from the VPN provider ZZ.XX.XXX.XXX - My external IP assigned by my ISP YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY - The external IP assigned by the VPN provider Interfaces ovpnc1 - My VPN client interface re0 - My LAN interface ue0 - My WAN interface This looks essentially what I would expect it to be. The default route is through the VPN provider. The VPN address is routed through the ISP-assigned IP address. I am not sure what would be wrong here. So figuring this was a firewall issue, I basically tried enabling all in/out traffic. This did not seem to remedy the problem. Also figuring it could possibly be some client networking issue, I restarted the clients on the LAN. This did not help. I also ran route flush and reset the routes manually. So I am a bit stumped, and would be very grateful for any thoughts on what the problem might be.

  • Issues connection to Ubuntu via PuTTy

    - by user1787262
I'm not sure this is the appropriate stack exchange site to post this question on. If not, please flag this for migration. I am trying to use PuTTy ssh into my ubuntu machine which is wirelessly connected to the same network. I originally ran ifconfig to get my ubuntu machines private network IP address. I then verified that ssh was running, I even ssh'd into my school network and then into the ubuntu machine itself. No problems yet. On my windows 8 machine I ran ipconfig to get my private network IPv4 address. I then pinged my ubunty machines IP and 100% of packets were received. I figured, "OK we are ready to use PuTTy to connect to my Ubuntu Machine". Keep in mind this was my first time using PuTTy. I tried entering the IP of my ubuntu machine in the PuTTy Config GUI but I got a connection timeout. At this moment I don't really know what's going on, SSH is running on port 22 of my Ubuntu machine and I can ping the machine why is it not connecting? (I tried [username]@ip too). So I went on my Ubuntu machine and ran nmap -sP 192.168.0.1/24 and found that my windows machines IP did not show up, the host is down. I'm at a lost in something I am not very familiar with. Would anyone be able to help me or direct me to some resources that would trouble shoot my problem? • Selenium/NUnit run one test on multiple IP addresses.

    - by Matt Clarkson
I have a test suite DLL written in C# that uses Selenium. This is then loaded into NUnit and tests can be performed on our embedded web server boards. Does anyone know how to run a NUnit Selenium test on multiple IPs in multiple browsers? I have tried creating multiple DefaultSelenium classes but they point to the same Internet Explorer window. I need multiple instances of the Selenium RC controlling individual Internet Explorer windows. Have been looking a lot on the Selenium User Group and in various documentation but can find a definitive answer. Cheers, Matt

  • Can I use a serial port as TCP/IP interface on Red Hat Linux?

    - by ShaChris23
Background We want to run an FTP server on a Red Hat Enterprise OS. The problem is, the machine we have does not have an Ethernet port/interface (please don't ask why; it's just a project requirement). We only have a serial port. Question Is there COTS / open source software that I can use to make serial port "look" like a an Ethernet port? My project is commercial. We run Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. Note: Pardon me if my post title is unclear. If you can think of a better title, please suggest or simply change the title.

  • debian gateway using iptables

    - by meijuh
I am having problems setting up a debian gateway server. My goal: Having eth1 the WAN interface. Having eth0 the LAN interface. Allow both ports 22 (SSH) and 80 (HTTP) accessed from the outside world on the gateway (SSH and HTTP run on this server). What I did was the following: Create a file /etc/iptables.rules with contents: /etc/iptables.rules: *nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE COMMIT *filter -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i eth1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i eth1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i eth1 -j DROP COMMIT edit /etc/network/interfaces as follows: /etc/network/interfaces: # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback pre-up iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.rules auto eth0 allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp #auto eth1 #allow-hotplug eth1 #iface eth1 inet dhcp allow-hotplug eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 217.119.224.51 netmask 255.255.255.248 gateway 217.119.224.49 dns-nameservers 217.119.226.67 217.119.226.68 Uncomment the rule net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 in /etc/sysctl.conf to allow packet forwarding. The static settings for eth1 such as the ip address I got from my router (which I want to replace); I simply copied these. I have a (windows) DNS + DHCP server on ip address 10.180.1.10, which assigns ip address 10.180.1.44 to eth0. What this server does is not really interesting it only maps domain names on our local network and assigns one static ip to the gateway. What works: on the gateway itself I can ping 8.8.8.8 and google.nl. So that is okey. What does not work: (1) Every machine connected to eth0 (indirectly via a switch) can not ping an ip or a domain. So I guess the gateway can not be found. (2) Also when I configure my linux machine (a laptop) to use a static ip 10.180.1.41, a mask and a gateway (10.180.1.44) I can not ping an ip or domain either. This means that maybe my iptables is incorrect of not loaded correctly. Or I maybe have to configure my DNS/DHCP on my windows machine. I have not reset the windows machine net, restart the DNS/DHCP services, should I do this? I did not install dnsmasq as desribed here: http://blog.noviantech.com/2010/12/22/debian-router-gateway-in-15-minutes/. I don't think this is necessary?

  • Could a truly random number be generated using pings to psuedo-randomly selected IP addresses?

    - by _ande_turner_
The question posed came about during a 2nd Year Comp Science lecture while discussing the impossibility of generating numbers in a deterministic computational device. This was the only suggestion which didn't depend on non-commodity-class hardware. Subsequently nobody would put their reputation on the line to argue definitively for or against it. Anyone care to make a stand for or against. If so, how about a mention as to a possible implementation?

  • MySQL - Order results by relevancy, LEFT JOINS and more

    Hi guys, I am trying to get some results ordered by total votes (where client votes count 2 points and other people votes are 1 point). tab_names: +-----------+ | Name | id | +------+----+ | John | 1 | | Paul | 2 | +------+----+ tab_votes: +--------+-----------+ | idname | ip | +--------+-----------+ | 2 | 127.0.0.1 | | 2 | 127.0.0.1 | | 2 | 82.23.5.1 | | 1 | 127.0.0.1 | +--------+-----------+ This is the MySQL query I've got but doesn't work: SELECT * COUNT(v.idname) AS totalvotes, (SELECT COUNT(v.ip) FROM tab_votes WHERE v.ip LIKE '$ip') AS uservotes FROM tab_names n LEFT JOIN tab_votes v ON n.id = v.idname GROUP BY n.name ORDER BY uservotes DESC, totalvotes DESC LIMIT 40

  • Help with MySQL query

    - by Michael S.
I have a table that contains the next columns: ip(varchar 255), index(bigint 20), time(timestamp) each time something is inserted there, the time column gets current timestamp. I want to run a query that returns all the rows that have been added in the last 24 hours. This is what I try to execute: SELECT ip, index FROM users WHERE ip = 'some ip' AND TIMESTAMPDIFF(HOURS,time,NOW()) < 24 And it doesn't work. Can someone help me out? Thanks :)

  • How to rate-limit concurrent sessions with nginx or haproxy?

    - by bantic
I'm currently using nginx to reverse-proxy requests from web clients that are doing long-polling to an upstream. Since we're doing long polling (as opposed to websockets), when a client connects it will make multiple http connections to the server in serial, re-establishing a connection every time the server sends it some data (or timing out and re-establishing if the server has nothing to say for 10 seconds). What I'd like to do is limit the number of concurrent web clients. Since the clients are constantly making new HTTP requests instead of keeping a single request open, it's a little tricky to count the total number of web clients (because it's not the same as total number of concurrently connected http clients). The method I've come up with is to track http requests by the originating IP address, and store the IP address somewhere with a TTL of 20 seconds. If a request comes in whose IP isn't recognized, then we check the total number of unexpired stored IP addresses; if that's less than the maximum then we allow this request through. And if a request comes in with an IP address that we can find in the look-up table that hasn't yet expired, then it is allowed through as well. All requests that are allowed through have their IPs added to the table (if not there before) and the TTL refreshed to 20 seconds again. I had actually whipped something together that worked correctly this way using nginx along with the Redis 2.0 Nginx Module (and the nginx lua module to simplify the conditional branching), using redis to store my IP addresses with a TTL (the SETEX command), and checking the table size with the DBSIZE command. This worked but the performance was horrible. nginx and redis ended up using lots of cpu and the machine could only handle a very small number of concurrent requests. The new stick-table and tracking counters that were added to Haproxy in version 1.5 (via a commission from serverfault) seem like they might be ideal to implement exactly this sort of rate limiting, because the stick-table can track IP addresses and automatically expire entries. However, I don't see an easy way to get a total count of the unexpired entries in the stick table, which would be necessary to know the number of connected web clients. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions, for nginx or haproxy or even for something else not mentioned here that I haven't thought of yet.

  • Trying to get DNS services running on Windows Server 2008 R2, what am I getting wrong ?

    - by LaserBeak
Ok, So I am basically trying to get a home server pc up that will provide Domain name services, act as Mail server and web server. I have one static IP, well it's not officially static but hasn't changed in two years so I'll call it static. I have done the following: Configured router NAT/virtual port forward UDP/TCP port 53 to the internal IP of my server 192.168.1.16, in adapter settings specified the manual settings: 192.168.1.16 IP, gateway 192.168.1.1, Subnet: 255.255.255.0 and loopback DNS: 127.0.0.1 Using my public my public IP Checked using http://www.canyouseeme.org/ that port 53 is open and is not being blocked by my ISP. It can see services on this port. Registered Domain name (mydomain.com.au) Updated whois database through the domain registrars site and registered NameServer names: ns0.mydomain.com.au and ns2.mydomain.com.au, both have been associated with my single public IP. (Waited 24 hours) Update the nameserver for mydomain.com.au: primary ns0.mydomain.com.au secondary: ns2.mydomain.com.au (waited 24+ hours) Installed Server 2008 R2, install web server role and DNS role. Webserver works when I enter my public IP into browser of any PC/mobile, get IIS7 welcome page. In DNS server: Created new forward lookup zone: ; ; Database file mydoman.com.au.dns for mydomain.com.au zone. ; Zone version: 10 ; @ IN SOA mydomain.com.au. mydomain.testdomain.com. • Is it possible to do DNS-based ACLs on a Cisco ASA?

    - by pickles
Short of using static IP addresses, is it possible to have a Cisco ASA use a DNS name rather than an IP address? For instance, if I want to limit a host in the DMZ to access only one particular web service, but that web service might be globally load balanced or using DynDNS or cloud, how can the ACL be expressed so that a fixed IP address isn't used and the admin doesn't have to keep opening and closing down IP addresses?

So, if the router of the server know about the mac address of the client (all of them), why the server page (like aspx) cannot have this information? Please, give an explanation. I have two tables: comments(id(primary key), author, ip(index)) and visitors(id(primary key), date_time, ip(index)) I want to join them like that: SELECT visitors.date_time FROM comments LEFT JOIN visitors ON ( comments.ip = visitors.ip ) WHERE comments.author = 'author' LIMIT 10 It works, but very slow.. In EXPLAIN it shows that it doesn't use the index on the visitors table: id select_type table type possible_keys key key_len ref rows Extra 1 SIMPLE comments ref author author 78 const 9660 Using where 1 SIMPLE visitors ALL NULL NULL NULL NULL 8033 Any ideas? Thanks!

  • TCP/IP RST being sent differently in different browsers.

    - by Brian
On Mac OS X (10.6), if I start a YouTube video download and pull the Ethernet cable for 5 or so seconds, then plug it back in, I get varying results depending on the browser. With Opera and Chrome, after I plug the cable back in the video continues to load. But with Safari and Firefox, it never does. Using Wireshark to look at the traffic, I found that Opera and Chrome simply ACK the first packet from YouTube after the cable has been plugged back in, but Safari and Firefox set the RST flag (0x4) in the TCP header and no more traffic follows. I can put a HUB in between the machine and the internet connection, the problem goes away and all four browsers continue loading the video when the cable is plugged back into the HUB. Again, looking at the Wireshark logs, it's evident that the machine doesn't see the Mulitcast connection close and there is simply a delay in the packets flowing through. So it seems that if Safari and Firefox sees a Multicast connection close, and then later see data on that same connection, they will send a RST. My question is why? What is the correct course of action, and why are 2/4 browsers doing it one way, while the other 2/4 are doing it another way? Is there somewhere in the code that I can see where this is happening in Firefox, for instance? Thank you very much.

  • [Python] Different work of the script in Windows and in FreeBSD

    - by www.yegorov-p.ru
    Hello. I'm writing some script, that works with web-servers. So, I have the following code: client = suds.client.Client(WSDLfile) client.service.Login('mylogin', 'mypass') print client.options.transport.cookiejar ####### sessnum = str(client.options.transport.cookiejar).split(' ')[1] client = suds.client.Client( WSDLfile, headers= { 'Set-Cookie' : sessnum } ) When running in FreeBSD, it returns <cookielib.CookieJar[<Cookie sessnum=9WAXQ25D37XY535F6SZ3GXKSCTZG8CVJ for .IP.IP.IP.IP/>]> but in Windows it returns <cookielib.CookieJar[]> How can I fix it?

  • How do I set IP access / password restrictions in Apache?

    - by Mouthbreather
I'd like to restrict access to my Rails app (running on Apache/Passenger) to just two IPs, but if the visitor doesn't fall into those two IPs, I would like for him/her to be prompted to enter a password that would allow any user with the proper credentials to access the site from anywhere. I am new to configuring Apache and would appreciate any hints. Thanks!
