  • Opinions on commercial MVC controls

    - by Mark
We are interested in the communities opinions on commercial MVC controls ie Telerik, Syncfusion. Which is fast, easy to use, stability, documentation, support and all that good stuff. We are about to start our second MVC project and are currently doing research into improving functionality and speed of development to 'standard' MVC. Any of your thoughts are much appreciated...

  • Best programming language for teaching econometrics?

    - by TJB
I will be teaching an econometrics course to masters students in the fall. I think it is important for them to learn programming with data as an essential applied research skill. What suggestions do you have for the programming language. I am leaning mostly towards R. What others should I consider?

  • How to create "floating TextViews" in Android?

    - by Sotapanna
Hi stackies, I'm programmatically putting various TextViews into a LinearLayout with a horizontal orientation. After 2h of research I couldn't find out how to tell Android not to squeeze all the TextViews in one line but instead to "float" non-fitting TextViews into the next line. I know there isn't something like actual "lines" in a LinearLayout, but how can I tell the TextViews to actually behave like floating DIVs from the HTML world? Thanks alot! Be well S.

  • Is Cassandra database row size limited by available memory?

    - by Adam Hollidge
I'm working with very long time series -- hundreds of millions of data points in one series -- and am considering Cassandra as a data store. In this question, one of the Cassandra committers (the über helpful jbellis) says that Cassandra rows can be very large, and that column slicing operations are faster than row slices, hence my question: Is the row size still limited by available memory?

  • When a tech document states that something is IP-Aware was does that specifically mean?

    - by Mike
I need a class room definition for IP-aware for a research assignment. I.E. something that would be used, lets say, in a dictionary. Does anyone know or provide me with a link to a defintiion, I am having no luck with searches. Are IP-Aware devices only devices that can read/find/make decisions based on IP addresses. For example a router would be one, but a network printer would not?

  • Methods for implementing and using graphs of nodes in C++?

    - by DistortedLojik
I am working on a research project that deals with social networks. I have done most of the backbone of the program in C++ and am now wanting to implement a way to create the graph of nodes and the connections as well as a way to visualize the connections between people. I have looked a little into Lemon and the Boost graph library, but was wondering which one would be easier to learn and implement or if I should just code my own.

  • Automated incremental backups from Plesk on Centos to Amazon S3

    - by ChrisS
Hi, I've done a far bit of research on this via Google and there seems to be quite a few ways of possibly doing this. I'm looking to incrementally backup new and updated files in two directories on my Plesk run Centos 5.2 server: /backups and /var/www/vhosts (preferable only httdocs within each vhost) Has anyone got some great feedback from using the various solutions - seems to be various Java, Perl and Ruby based solutions out there. Many thanks, Chris

  • HTTPS and C++ - Not an easy match?

    - by Holli
I need to access a HTTPS protected website (HTML or XML) from an C++ MFC application and I would like an easy solution. But I did a little research and it's seems to me HTTPS and C++ don't play nice and easy together. Is there any recommended class library for HTTPS web access? Should be easy to use and not too expensive.

  • Google App Engine - The most awaited feature

    - by systempuntoout
This list is taken from the official Google App Engine roadmap: SSL for third-party domains Background servers capable of running for longer than 30s Ability to reserve instances to reduce application loading overhead Ability to select different availability vs. latency options for Datastore Support for mapping operations across datasets Datastore dump and restore facility Raise request/response size limits for some APIs Improved monitoring and alerting of application serving Support for Browser Push (Comet) communication Built-in support for OAuth & OpenID What is your most awaited feature and why?

  • How does IE8 handle xml header.

    - by markovuksanovic
I was wondering where I can find some information how IE8 actually handles xml header... for example how is handling <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> different to <?xml version="1.0"?>. One other questions would be how FF handles those header. How is that different to IE8. I am almost 100% sure that they handle them differently but am still doing some research. /Marko

  • Sharing code between Android and Windows Mobile

    - by reuscam
I'm doing some initial research on smart phone development, and I noticed that Android and Windows Mobile both support c++ for application development. I was curious if anyone had any experience trying to manage shared files between both Android and Windows Mobile, and to what extent that code can be shared? e.g. no user interface can be shared, but web service and business logic classes can be shared, etc.

  • Robotium BDD with Cucumber

    - by LucasGomes
I want to know if you guys know how to make BDD tests with Robotium. As I research Robotium works with a different Virtual Machine (Dalvik) so I cannot run as Junit Test (Only with Android Junit Test). So I found a possible solution to run Robotium with Junit with RoboRemote https://github.com/groupon/robo-remote. But when i tried to integrate with cucumber the tests became unstable. So you guys know some way to make BDD tests using Robotium?

  • Can I pass a pointer to a superclass, but create a copy of the child?

    - by Alex
I have a function that takes a pointer to a superclass and performs operations on it. However, at some point, the function must make a deep copy of the inputted object. Is there any way I can perform such a copy? It occurred to me to make the function a template function and simply have the user pass the type, but I hold out hope that C++ offers a more elegant solution.

  • How do you label output variables in an IDL FOR loop for further processing outside the loop in the same program?

    - by user610769
I have a FOR loop like this: FOR k = 1,216 DO atom = G[,0::(215+k)] END What I would like to be able to do is to store in memory the array for each atom, say, atom_k and then call these different variables to perform further operations outside the FOR loop. Conceptually, I want to label the "atom" variable with the "k" counter somewhat like this: FOR k = 1,216 DO atom(k) = G[,0::(215+k)] END Of course, this doesn't work because "k" is no longer a label in this case. Does anyone know?

  • Are doubles faster than floats in c#?

    - by Trap
I'm writing an application which reads large arrays of floats and performs some simple operations with them. I'm using floats because I thought it'd be faster than doubles, but after doing some research I've found that there's some confusion about this topic. Can anyone elaborate on this? Thanks.
