• Accidentally Removed Permissions for the XP SP3 Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT! Workaround Please!

  This is Praveen and I am using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Build 2600. I had problems with using Microsoft Office 2010. It was keeping on saying, "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010". After seeing this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlookcontact/thread/6e9c3f2e-010a-4b74-b433-0c41548ee468?prof=required I thought of giving the Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, full access permissions for Everyone. I went to the registry, right-clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and clicked on Permissions. I added Everyone and gave Full Control to the ACL and clicked on Apply. Also I checked "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." After a long time, it said with an error, cannot replace for few entries. Now, the key, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no access to any user. My system is not starting up. Some of my friends asked me to try the Last Known Good Configuration. Even that did not work out. When I tried to open in the Safe Mode, I got only one driver to load and even that didn't load well. Another friend suggested me to put the Setup disk and reinstall the OS. I tried that and after completing the "Installing Device Drivers" part, when it started "Installing Network", the system is getting restarted. Now, the setup is also half way through and even if I open in Safe Mode to try System Restore, it popped up a message saying, "Setup cannot run under Safe Mode. Setup will restart now." and the system is restarting. All my official files and my software, which I developed for Registry Security, resides in my system now. I am unable to access the system and I want it to be working to submit the project, as the deadline is this week. I had no better solutions from elsewhere. Can anyone please help me out with this issue. If it is possible to open the registry editor's stored file from another system and restore the access permissions, I hope it would solve the problem.   I need some headers from the dev-version of postgres 9, which is contained in libpq-dev, for installing the pg gem, but when I execute: sudo apt-get install libpq-dev I get the result: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libpq-dev : Depends: libpq5 (= 8.4.7-0ubuntu0.10.10) but 9.0.1-1~lucid is to be installed When I tried to remove libpq5 (to reinstall it correctly?), it threatened to remove postgresql-9.0: The following packages will be REMOVED: libpq5 pgadmin3 php5-pgsql postgresql-9.0 postgresql-client-9.0 Does anybody know how to solve this problem? • BSOD - probably video card prob

  I'm receiving the following BSOD: I've tried installing the latest driver from nVidia (296.10), but it says "NVIDIA installer cannot continue", "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.": I installed it manually at device manager, but problem still occurs. The problem does not happen in safe mode at all. Note: After restarting the computer when seeing this BSOD, the BIOS welcome screen is full of random black dots spread around: Any solutions? Update: I've tried disabling Aero by following this guide, but that didn't help.

• Full screen flash lags on Windows 7

  I have been experiencing an issue since I've up upgraded to Windows 7 where all flash videos have horrible frame rates when run in full screen mode. I have tried multiple browsers and i have the latest version of flash and video drivers. I have tried re-installing flash and disabling hardware acceleration. The problem occurs on youtube and hulu. This is a clean install on a Core 2 duo with 4GB RAM and an Nvidia 8400M GS.

• How to trigger a SQL Agent Job from a client PC

  I have SQL Agent job that is automated that a non SQL Admin user may need to occasionaly run. I know I can trigger a SQL Agent Job via sp_execute_job. Can anyone tell me where to find what I need installed on a (Non SQL Server box) client PC in order to run one of - SQLCmd, OSQL or ISQL - commands please, so I can execute the above SQL? Or is there are simpler way perhaps with out calling TSQL or without installing any SQL client tools.

• postgresql service corrupt, how can i re-create service?

  Hi all, I recently was tricked into running one of those registry cleaner programs (RegistryBooster). It seemed to work fine until I tried to start my postgres service. For some reason, the 'path to executable' was no longer set on the service properties page, and obviously would not start without a path. • Huawei E170 doesn't work with Windows 7

  I've got a "Huawei E170" (HSDPA broadband modem USB stick) with a driver CD for Windows XP & Vista, but now I got a netbook with Windows 7, and the driver installer won't run. I've called the telecom, but they just offered to sell me a new stick :-( Is there really no Win7 driver available for the E170 stick? Or can I trick it into installing anyway?

• Which file system to use for portable hard drive shared among different operating systems?

I need to share a portable hard drive (USB/Firewire) between Mac OSX, Linux and Windows XP systems where the files being shared are sometimes 4GB. Is there a file system that is available out of the box on all these operating systems that support this and allows read/write access? If not, what's the next best solution in terms of installing additional software on these operating systems?

• Windows Media Player - Display JPEG cover art for FLAC files

  I got WMP 12 (on Windows 7 RC1) to play FLAC files by installing the Ogg Vorbis/FLAC, Direct Show filters, but WMP does not display the embedded cover artwork. After experimenting I found that it will display the cover art if it is embedded in PNG format, but up to now I've used JPEG for all my FLAC files. Rather than re-tagging all my files, does anyone know a way to get WMP 12 to display JPEG embedded cover art?

• What is a good method to solve cabal install problems?

  I've used the cabal package manager for Haskell programs to install libraries and new projects that I've cloned from some repositories. More often than not, I keep running into problems. Most projects make installing them seem super easy, but in my case that's not always true - sometimes they are very hard to get running. Some are so hard, in fact, that I've lost interest in the project solely because of not being able to install it. So instead of complaining, I'd like to ask what I should do to better this situation. I'd like to use my most recent problem as an example. I'm interested in trying out the Gitit project. It's a promising looking personal wiki that runs on various version control systems. So here's what I've done: Clone from Github run cabal install in the project directory like I'm told on the project install page: mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ ls BLUETRIP-LICENSE CHANGES HCAR-gitit.tex LICENSE Network README.markdown RELANN-0.6.1 Setup.lhs TANGOICONS YUI-LICENSE data expireGititCache.hs gitit.cabal gitit.hs plugins mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ cabal install Resolving dependencies... cabal: cannot configure happstack-server-7.0.7. It requires base64-bytestring ==1.0.* For the dependency on base64-bytestring ==1.0.* there are these packages: base64-bytestring-1.0.0.0. However none of them are available. base64-bytestring-1.0.0.0 was excluded because gitit-0.10 requires base64-bytestring ==0.1.* mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ So now I'm thinking: well, I'll install happstack-server on its own, maybe that will work: mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ cabal install happstack-server Resolving dependencies... • Using WinAmp to put music on an iPod/iPhone

  Back in the day, with older iPods, you could copy music onto them using Winamp's Music Library. I heard that newer iPods and iPhones have all sort of encryption that prevents this from being fully functional. I'm looking to buy a new iPod soon, and would really like to avoid installing (or at least keeping) a copy of iTunes on my PC. Are solutions still available through WinAmp? Other software? What iPod/iPhone models would work better?
