• Network drives don't get mapped and desktop redirection stops working when domain user becomes a member of the Local Administrator group on their PC

  We have a Small Business Server 2003 domain controller with Windows 7 workstations joined to the domain. I noticed recently that, if I make a user a local administrator on his computer, his redirected desktop and mapped network drives do not connect at login (error on login that network drives inaccessible and desktop is blank). However, it is still possible for this user to browse to his home directory where his redirected folders are located- so he still has access to that location. Does anyone have any theories as to what is going on here?

• OS X clients ignoring Windows print server permissions

  I'm in the process of testing a Windows Server 2008 R2 print server for a mixed OS X/Windows environment. Any security permissions (AD groups) I set for the printers on the print server are not honoured by the OS X clients. Only if I remove absolutely all permissions for a given printer will an OS X client not print to that printer. The Windows clients honour the permissions as expected. The PrintService log doesn't record any activity when an unprivileged Windows client attempts to print, and records a typical print job when an unprivileged OS X client attempts to print. Has anyone encountered this problem before and have a fix? With 600-700 clients, a number of which are dual-booting, restricting by IP address is not viable. EDIT: The jobs are definitely going through the print server, they show up in the logs with their AD credentials.

  Comment pointed out that this may fix my problem, and it did: Why don't mails show up in the recipient's mailspool? I use Postfix with Dovecot, and when I send an email from my gmail to my server, it is received at the server, but not at my email client using POP3. I can verify it being received at the server using the mail command.   Hi, i have a problem with Firefox autocomplete in login forms. When i enter a password and a username for the first time it asks me if i want to remember them, i click on "remember" and it saves the data, but when i log out and then return to the login page it shows me nothing. The password is autocompleted only after i enter the username. Is there a way to do the autocomplete immediately like in any other browser?

  I have an account with external user mailboxes opened and accidentally I have moved a folder and now I can't find it anywhere. Action: I clicked on a folder and dragged it into another one. Result: Can't find the moved folder anywhere The above picture is the folders I currently have from my Outlook 2010 (via Exchange 2010), under an AD Network. Where can I (me, having admin rights over the network) retrieve that missing folder again? Attempts: The original and the one folder I need was accidentally moved, but I have created a poi folder and tried the same way, and I got the same result... the folder went missing. I also tried to reboot the client machine and access the same mailbox from OWA ... no luck on both attempts :( Any ideas on how I can retrieve the missing folder and its emails again?

  I have an application in one of my application pools that has a virtual path of '/Site/login.aspx'. I want to remove it but it no longer exists on my computer and it's causing me issues setting up AppFabric. I understand that you can remove these phantom applications by recreating the application in IIS and then hitting Remove. That will get rid of the application from the pool but in this case I can't recreate the application due to the /login.aspx in the virtual path Any ideas how I remove this erroneous entry? Thanks

  Is there any way to query the exchange server to determine the maximum attachment file size? I'd be doing this in ASP.NET/C#. I'd like to be able to validate the file they want to attach is not over the limit before the user attempts to send the file to the server as opposed to having the server send back an exception when it attempts to attach the file and it discovers the file is too large. I've also posted this question about this on stackoverflow.com as well - I figured a sysadmin for Exchange may have an answer as well as a developer. My webservers are 2 single NIC lighttpd and one dual nic lighttpd. server1 in this example is running squid on port 80 and lighttpd on port 8080 (just to test) Requirements: All 3 webservers running lighttpd should be balanced two option for load balancing: Best would be if server1 is busy server2 takes over, if server2 is busy server3 takes over, etc.. Round robin style evenly distributed load. Eg server1 takes first call, server2 second etc.. All requests should be treated the same way (no url rewriting or so on) Sent host headers have to be redirected to every server as http host header, speaking of "server1", "server1.company.internal" and "10.211.1.1". If the cache_peer_access is not defined sometimes the wrong hostname is sent to the backend webserver and this always depends on the defaultsite= parameter. Probably because the host header on the request to squid is not set and its replaced by defaultsite. Leaving out defaultsite didnt solve the problem. The only workaround i found for this is the current approach with cache_peer_access. Questions: Does the cache_peer_access influence the round-robin? Is there a better workaround to pass the host header to the backed webservers? Which parameters do increase the speed of load balancing or does anyone have a better approach? -Martin

• Enabling Shell colours through Putty SSH

  I have set a number of configurations in my .bashrc file to set the appearance of shell on my Redhat machine. However, when I login as root using Putty, the colours are not shown. I can enable them again by typing 'su', which simply puts me back to root like I was when I logged into putty, but that isn't exaclty ideal.
