• Access block level storage via kernel

  How to access block level storage via the kernel (w/o using scsi libraries)? My intent is to implement a block level storage protocol over network for learning purpose, almost the same way SCSI works. Requests will be generated by initiator and sent to target (both userspace program) which makes call to kernel module and returns the data using TCP protocol to initiator. So far, I have managed to build a simple "Hello" module and run it (I am new at kernel programming), but unable to proceed with block access. After searching a lot, I found struct buffer_head * bread(int dev,int block) in linux/fs.h, but the compiler throws error. error: implicit declaration of function ‘bread’ Please help, also feel free to advice on starting with kernel programming. • Hudson XML error-- No module named dom.minidom

  I am trying to send a simple XML file of the format given in http://wiki.hudson-ci.org/display/HUDSON/Monitoring+external+jobs . I was able to send it easily and was getting desired result!! Then I tried to build this XML file using python script and it was giving me the exact file that I wanted without any problem. But when I tried to run this and send it to Hudson, I was getting the error - "No module named dom.minidom" . I checked again by executing in Python IDLE and it ws working fine but when I tried to send it again, I was getting the same error.. plz help..

• Gson module not found Blackberry Java application

  Hi. I'm developing a simple application for Blackberry and i'm using Google's gson to retrieve some data from a server. The UI was working fine but when I added the gson part it started failing, it wont run. When I run the application in the simulator it show this error: "Uncaught: RuntimeException" on that annoying white screen of death and after holding the click button I can see that there is an alert dialog that says "Module 'gson-1.4' not found". However I did added "gson-1.4.jar" in the Project's Properties - Java Build Path - Add External JARs... also, the Gson objects are recognized at my code, no syntax errors at my code. BTW, I'm using Eclipse and the most recent Blackberry SDK Please help

  I am developing a profile-based web application where each user is assigned there own url through their username & iis rewrite mod's magic. A typical user's profile url would be http://www.mymark.com/mike Each user is also created a blog in a multi-user wordpress installation. The wordpress url would look like this: http://www.mymark.com/blog/mike I am trying to use the rewrite module to create more canonical urls for the user (http://www.mymark.com/mike/blog), and have tried several regex variations that I have created through RegExr(a regex generation tool) and come up with this as the pattern to match (www.|)mymark.com/([^/]+)/blog but haven't had any success so far. • Drupal, FUpload images module introduce bugs

  hi, I'm using FUpload module to upload multiple images together from my CCK Image field. It perfectly works, however if I use it when I'm creating a new node, the other CCK Image fields stop to work and the images (from these fields) are not stored at all. The error I get is "path doesn't exist"... It sounds like fUpload force the other CCK fields to store the content before the node is saved and the folders are created. (I'm using path auto, to create folders accordingly to node title). Could you give me some tips ? Thanks

  I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active I plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that I could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically Perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

  I have a site built in Drupal 6 that requires a number of blocks that are only visible to certain roles or on specific pages. Normally, I would use the block configuration settings to control page and role visibility. However I recently ran across the context module that effectively splits the site into "sections" or "groups" of related attributes. My question is: When is it appropriate to control block visibility from context rather than the block configuration settings? Should I only use one or the other or a combination of both?

  From PyPubSub: Pypubsub provides a simple way for your Python application to decouple its components: parts of your application can publish messages (with or without data) and other parts can subscribe/receive them. This allows message "senders" and message "listeners" to be unaware of each other: one doesn't need to import the other a sender doesn't need to know "who" gets the messages, what the listeners will do with the data, or even if any listener will get the message data. similarly, listeners don't need to worry about where messages come from. This is a great tool for implementing a Model-View-Controller architecture or any similar architecture that promotes decoupling of its components. There seem to be quite a few Python modules for publishing/subscribing floating around the web, from PyPubSub, to PyDispatcher to simple "home-cooked" classes. • Python namespace in between builtins and global?

  Hello, As I understand it python has the following outermost namespaces: Builtin - This namespace is global across the entire interpreter and all scripts running within an interpreter instance. Globals - This namespace is global across a module, ie across a single file. I am looking for a namespace in between these two, where I can share a few variables declared within the main script to modules called by it. For example, script.py: import Log from Log import foo from foo log = Log() foo() foo.py: def foo(): log.Log('test') # I want this to refer to the callers log object I want to be able to call script.py multiple times and in each case, expose the module level log object to the foo method. Any ideas if this is possible? It won't be too painful to pass down the log object, but I am working with a large chunk of code that has been ported from Javascript. I also understand that this places constraints on the caller of foo to expose its log object. Thanks, Paul

  I have a bare-bone express application, exactly the one that is created with the express command. I have installed socket.io and attached it to my server, like this: var app = express(), server = http.createServer(app), io = io.listen(server); server.listen(8000); Now, I also have the routes files, which is called like this: app.get('/', routes.index); Inside this module I have the following function: exports.index = function(req, res){ socket.emit('news', { message: "foo" }); }; This obviously leads to a 500 reference error, because the routes file is an exportable module, and obviously has no idea what the socket is, as it is located in the app.js file. Is there a way I can access this socket object from this, or any other file? Please note that it is attached to the express generated app. extra: what about getting/setting session data?   I am using Eclispe with Google plugin for AppEngine and GWT. Recently I created a test GWT module, but eventually it has been deleted from the project and I can not find any sign of it in the project now. However, whenever I run the web app locally, I get in console the following message: Loading modules com.piq.exemity.Test [ERROR] Unable to find 'com/XXXXXX/Test.gwt.xml' on your classpath; could be a typo, or maybe you forgot to include a classpath entry for source? Has anyone got any idea where it can be hiding?

  Preface: Yes, I've read: http://drupal.org/node/547518 I am writing 'foo' module for Drupal6, where I am organizing the code in an OO fashion. There's a class called Foo that has a bunch of setters and accessors, and it is working quite well at abstracting some pretty nasty code and SQL. The question is is it common practice to expose a class for other modules, or is it better to wrap things in the more typical foo_myfnname()? For example, if I am writing the module's docs, should I tell people to do this: $foo = new Foo(); $something = $foo->get_something(); or tell them to call: foo_get_something(); which under the hood does: function foo_get_something() { $foo = new Foo(); return $foo->get_something(); }

• correct way to turn EAR module into OSGI bundle

  Greetings to all! There is a necessity to turn part of EAR (namely - war) into OSGI bundle and retain it's interoperability. Glassfish 3.0.1 already has osgi-web-container module and I succeeded to deploy standalone OSGI war. But in case of of ex-enterprise war it looks a bit difficult to me. What do I do with EJB calls from inside future OSGI war? Is it enough to replace @EJB injections with true JNDI lookups? What about APIs and libraries shared across EAR? I could split and rearrange them, but still I will have at least one jar needed by both EAR and OSGI war. Duplicate, make it as OSGI-bundle itself and make it available to ear somehow, place it GF domain's library path? Any other ideas, advices which could make that hybrid working?   I'm making a GWT application which will have many screens. There will be a menu on the left and clicking a menu option will open the relevant module in the right side content area. Clicking on items in the content area will link to other modules that open in the same content area. How do I implement this architecture? How do I pass objects between the different content modules? How do I isolate each module into its own package? Can all of these be within the same Eclipse project? Anything else that should be considered?

• Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

  I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

  I have written a reporting suite, and I have a specific report that builds a CSV file. Serving this file via a browser on demand isn't an issue, but I need to be able to build this CSV file nightly, and email round a link to be able to download it. Essentially, I need to be able to replace a specific action with a symfony task, run via cron. So how do I gain application/module context from a symfony task? And secondly, how would I invoke the SwiftMailer library from a symfony task? I'm using symfony v1.4.4 and PHP v.5.2.13. Thanks in advance for your help.

  i wonder if there are tutorials/books explaining how you create a library/plugin/module for other to implement? libraries/frameworks like solr, doctrine, codeigniter etc. cause it seems that they follow the same pattern. having one "bootstrap" file to load configurations, other classes and so on. i aim to understand the basics, so i can create a such library. cause at the moment i want to code an address book that other can use. just include a bootstrap file and they are ready to use my classes (like Doctrine). recommendations of sources to learn these things of stuff? you experienced guys, how did you learn it? thanks.

• Flex builder stopped generating the module swf in the output folder

  Flex Builder suddenly stopped generating the swf of the modules in the output folder, the project properties is set to build automatically and all the modules are listed under Flex Modules in the project properties. I didn't change any configuration, I was working on a project and modifying modules and the swf files in the output folder where getting updated until suddenly I noticed that any modifications in the modules where not reflected when I run the application so I checked the swf files of the modules in the output folder I found that they don't get regenerated when the module is modified. I tried restarting the flex builder but nothing changed.

• Embedding Python in C: Having problems importin local modules

  I'm needing to run Python scripts within a C-based app. I am able to import standard modules from the Python libraries i.e.: PyRun_SimpleString("import sys") But when I try to import a local module 'can' PyRun_SimpleString("import can") returns the error msg: Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in ImportError: No module named can When I type the command "import can" in iPython, the system is able to find it. How can I link my app with can? I've tried setting PYTHONPATH to my working directory. Thanks.
