• Moving distribution lists in Public Folders to Sharepoint Contacts?

  Now I know that if I connect to contact list in Sharepoint and drag and drop everything from the Exchange Public Folder contact list to the Sharepoint Contact list (connected through Outlook) it will transfer everything in the contact list to the sharepoint contact list. What about distribution lists? Has anyone had a workaround for this? If a contact list is full of distribution lists the Contacts won't migrate over and the Sync Issues - Local Failures folder is populated with all the distribution lists that couldn't be migrated. Is there a way to migrate distribution lists? Any ideas how to set up the contact list like a contact list of distrubition lists? How would that contact list look on sharepoint? Should I just leave the contact lists that have distribution lists on public folders?

I have a Lenovo notebook with pre-installed Windows 7 Professional x64. I just did a clean reinstall with retail installation Win7 Professional x64 disk I got from MSDNAA programme I'm member. I wanted to install the OS as Lenovo OEM with the same key I had before, but when I tried to activate the newly installed Windows, it gave me 0xc004e003 error. So the question is, can I use my OEM key for Win7 installed as retail? If not, can I somehow change the installed OS to OEM? The other think is, the OEM key I have tried is just some key I found in my notes, because I don't have any Windows sticker on beneath my laptop as it used to be on all my previous ones. Can I somehow find out "what is the origin" of the supposed key I'm trying to use?

• Shaping outbound Traffic to Control Download Speeds with Linux

  I have a situation where a server makes lots of requests from big webservers all at the same time. Currently, I have not control over the amount of requests or the rate of the requests from the application that does this. The responses from these webservers is more than the internet line can handle. (Basically, we are launching a DoS on ourselves). I am going to get push to get this fixed at the application level, but for the time being, is there anyway I can use traffic shaping on the Linux server to control this? I know I can only shape outbound traffic, but maybe there is a way I can slow the TCP responses so the other side will detect congestion and this will help my situation? If there is anything like this with tc, what might the configuration look like? The idea is that the traffic control might help me control which packets get dropped before they reach my router.

  What is the best free software to learn touch-typing? Features it needs to have: should NOT display the keyboard layout on the screen! should give detailed statistics which actually measure progress (for which key do I have the highest error rate, graphs showing how typing speed improved over time, etc) should enable me to actually learn touch-typing in about one long weekend were I don't do much else than learning to touch-type. it would be very good if it were possible to load a text-file and the program will use words from the text-file for the exercises as well My goals are: at least same typing speed as I have now but which touch-typing, want to be able to look at the screen only when typing P.S.: EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm using Win 7.   I am on my way to Europe for 20 days with the wife and teenage kids. Among us, we have 3 iPhones, 1 Blackberry, 2 iPad 3G and 2 Macbook Pro laptops. Each has Skype. I am very concerned about AT&T data charges, and I am looking for a sensible alternative. For example, the AT&T data plans for the phones and iPads are $200 EACH for 200 MB per device. That is $1,200 and does not even cover the laptops. Ouch!!! I am thinking about a prepaid data plan from a European cell system of some sort combined with a GSM data modem and a Cradlepoint router, such as the CTR500. So, questions: 1) Anyone know of a GSM data source in Europe where I can buy a GSM Modem compatible with the CTR500 at a reasonable prepaid rate? 2) Experience with the CTR500?

How can I estimate how much more memory it needs to get to a 95% hit ratio? edit: This question was blocked, but I do not think this is impossible to answer. After all, anyone that's used a caching system HAS answered this question, most likely with trial&error&luck. I can look at my usage patterns. I can increase or decrease memory and see how hit rate changes. Both of these provide data that informs an estimate. But what's a good/better/best way to do this?

• Ubuntu server very slow out of the blue sky (Rails, passenger, nginx)

  I run Ubuntu server 8.04 on Linode with multiple Rails apps under Passenger + nginx. Today I've noticed it takes quite a lot of time to load a page (5-10 secs). And it's not only websites, ssh seems to be affected too. Having no clue why this may be happening, I started to check different things. I checked how the log files are rotated, I checked if there's enough free disk space and memory.   I have a whole bunch of domains with my current web host and when i got the package i got it with a few gig of web space and a bunch of mysql databases but times have changed and now and i don't use the hosting im paying for, and i just my host as a DNS server to forward everything else where. The process of removing the host is going to require me to transfer all the domains to another package etc... which is going to cause disruption so my question is: Who is the best provider for DNS only? I don't want any space or mail just someone to hold the domains and let me set any DNS options I want (A/MX/CNAME records for everything, even possibly the ability to point my domains at my own DNS server).

• Horrible performing RAID

  I have a small GlusterFS Cluster with two storage servers providing a replicated volume. Each server has 2 SAS disks for the OS and logs and 22 SATA disks for the actual data striped together as a RAID10 using MegaRAID SAS 9280-4i4e with this configuration: http://pastebin.com/2xj4401J Connected to this cluster are a few other servers with the native client running nginx to serve files stored on it in the order of 3-10MB. Right now a storage server has a outgoing bandwith of 300Mbit/s and the busy rate of the raid array is at 30-40%. There are also strange side-effects: Sometimes the io-latency skyrockets and there is no access possible on the raid for 10 seconds. The file system used is xfs and it has been tuned to match the raid stripe size. Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason for such a bad performing array? 22 Disks in a RAID10 should deliver way more throughput.

  I've used SimpleOCR, which has a nice GUI for correcting errors. Unfortunately it makes a lot of errors! (and suffers other bugs and limitations) On the other hand Tesseract is more accurate but has no GUI at all. Is there a free OCR program for Windows which has a nice GUI and a low error rate? I want it to highlight suspect words (by OCR uncertainty, not just spell checking) and show the original (bitmap) word while I'm editing the OCRed word similar to what SimpleOCR does: Open-source would be best, followed by freeware, then trial / crippleware a long way behind.

• SMB super slow within LAN between MAC and PC

  I have a windows desktop which stores all my movies, songs and pictures. I have a mac laptop which I would like to access these files. I don't want to utilize the FTP or SCP protocol because I don't want them to be downloaded to my mac. I want to access them as if they are a network mounted disk. So I tried using the native SMB protocol (available in Finder - Go - Connect to server). I tried dragging a file and dropping it onto my MAC's desktop. Surprisingly, I am only able to transfer at a very slow rate of about 1mb/s. Assuming network connectivity is not a problem, has anyone experienced incredible slowness with SMB? Are there alternative protocols for me to use in this case between PC and MAC?

• How can I make sftp accounts that can only access their home directory?

  I'm using Ubuntu Server 9.10. I need to setup 6 accounts for users that will exclusively need sftp. When the user logs in, I need them to only have access to their home directory. I don't want them to be able to navigate to any other places in the file system. I need their ability to type commands to be limited to only the commands needed to view and transfer files back and forth to their home directory. Can anyone offer some guidance on setting thing up this way?

  I want to transfer video from a VHS tape to my computer with Arch Linux, using a USB capture device that comes with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD, which I recently bought. I tried to plug in the device, and it was properly recognized. • AFXR problem using gradwell secondary DNS

  Hi All I use Gradwell.com to provide secondary DNS but I keep getting e-mails along the lines of the following saying that it's not working: You have asked us to provide a secondary DNS service for the following domain(s) Unfortunately, the primary DNS server(s) you specified are not permitting the necessary zone transfers from our servers, or they are not answering "SOA" queries for your domain correctly. I have gone through the support procedure and they weren't that helpful. They have suggested the following: Our secondline team have suggested setting the AXFR to use anouther machine. This will ensure that the transfer is not locked down to one machine and should allow any machine to make the request I don't really know what AFXR is and I only have 1 production machine so I can't set the AFXR to use another one! In previous support correspondence we confirmed that I am allowing transfers to the correct IP and that I have the correct ports open on the firewall. I am running Windows Server 2003. What can I do to try and get these zone transfers working? Thanks

Recommended action Contacted HostPapa and they deny that there is any issue with the site / server!!! Support in terms of what I can do to actually resolve this issue is non-existent!!!! The site is currently online. And I don't know much about DNS... so any advice about what I can do to resolve this problem would be much appreciated.

• Folder Size Column on Explorer on Windows Vista/Seven

  I'm a big fan of FolderSize, but unfortunately it works only on Windows XP. Even reading this and this, I'm not convinced that I cannot to have a column showing the folder size on Windows Explorer. Even with all "problems" FolderSize worked like a charm in WindowsXP. In a sysadmin life, FolderSize is explendid. Before select a lot of folders to send to backup in DVDs, I can check directly in Windows Explorer the size of the folders and get a set of folders with 4.3Gb to burn in a DVD. In another situation, I can view in the root folder the size of the bigger folders in the hard drive and start a good strategy of backup/partitioning/transfer to another drive/etc. If desired, I can tell a lot of another needs that in my sysadmin life I need a tool like FolderSize... There is someone that is actively developing a solution to show folder size on Windows Explorer in Vista/Seven Windows? What the problems that I can face if I develop myself that "add-in" for Windows Explorer?

• Throughput = BS * IOPS?

  I've seen in many places that throughput = bs * iops should be true. For example writing at 128k block size to a SAS disk that can support 190 IOPS should give a throughput of ~23 MBps - 23.75(MBs) = 128(BS)*190(SAS-15 IOPS)/1024. Now when I tested it in a VM against a monster NetApp filer I got theses results: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/dd.out bs=4k count=2097152 8589934592 bytes (8.6 GB) copied, 61.5996 seconds, 139 MB/s To view the IO rate of the VM I used iostat and esxtop, and they both showed around 250 IOPS. So to my understanding the throughput was supposed to be ~1000k: 1000(KBs) = 4(BS)*250(IOPS). dd of 8GB is twice the size of RAM of course, so no page caching here. What am I missing? Thanks!

• Windows - Delayed Write Failed error on USB hard drive

  I've got a new Verbatim 1.5TB USB hard drive (Samsung HD154UI) and I'm finding myself completely unable to fill it. I'm using Windows XP. Whenever I try to copy a load of files over, it works for some time (will copy over between 20 and 90GB) but eventually stops with an error saying "The specified path is too deep" - the specified is not too deep, there's nothing more than 2 dirs deep that I'm copying. A balloon pops up at the bottom saying "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" telling me the data could not be copied. This wouldn't be too bad if I could just restart the transfer, but after this error has happened I can't write anything else to the disk - including if I eject it and then connect it to another machine. It just seems completely locked. The only way I can unlock it is to delete everything that I was copying to it. I've tried various USB cables and copying from different machines, and the same thing keeps happening.

• PureFTPd : ChrootEveryone not working

  I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 with pure-ftpd version 1.0.35-1. I don't use database for the only user I have (ftpuser1 - localuser), but I want to lock him into his home directory. /ftp/ftpuser1 is the home dir of ftpuser1. /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/ChrootEveryone has the yes string and in /etc/default/pure-ftpd-common VIRTUALCHROOT is set to false, but ftpuser1 can freely walk around. My startup line for pure-ftpd looks like this : /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd -l pam -A -8 UTF-8 -O clf:/var/log/pure-ftpd/transfer.log -u 1000 -E -B So there is the "-A" in it for the ChrootEveryone.
