• How to configure outgoing connections from an SQL stored procedure?

  I am working on a .NET project which uses Microsoft SQL server. In this project, I need a CLR stored procedure (written in C#) that uses a remote web service. So, when the stored procedure is executed on the SQL server, it makes web service calls and thus sends packets to a remote location. The problem is that when executing the SP I get: "System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden." The database user has full permission, the deployed CLR assembly and SP are even marked "unsafe", I tried signing it etc., so any of that is not causing the problem. When I am executing the very same C# code, but from a simple console application instead of as a SP, it all works fine. So I started to suspect a network related problem and had a packet sniffer running when executing both the SP and the console app version. What I realized was that the packets sent out had different destination IP addresses: the console app sent the packets directly to the web service IP while the SP sent the packets to a proxy server we use in our company. Due to network policies the latter is not allowed and that explains the "403 Forbidden" exception. So my question boils down to this: How can I configure the SP/MS SQL server to NOT use that proxy? I want it to send the packets directly to the web service IP, just like the test console app. (again, the C# code is the same , so it's not a programming matter). I've disabled all proxy settings in Internet Explorer in case the SQL server inherits these settings or something. However, no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Peter

• ASP.NET MVC on GoDaddy Not Working (Not Primary Domain Deployment)

  I am trying to get ASP.NET MVC working on GoDaddy and I'm not having much luck. I have read the post on SO that covers the subject, but I must have a slightly different configuration or must be missing somehting along the way because the main MVC page comes up, but all links seem to fail and no amount of tweaking the URLs seems to get it to work. A little back ground. I have a single hosting plan with many domains pointed to sub folders of the main domain. Basic ASP.NET web forms pages work just fine, but of course I wanted to try and host a sample MVC site in one of these non-primary domains. You can go to the URL here. As you can see this first page comes up, but if you click on Home or About it doesn't work. Clicking on Home creates this link "http://www.jprescottsanders.com/jps/" and clicking on about creates this link "http://www.jprescottsanders.com/jps/Home/About". As you can see JPS sneaks in there, this of course is the sub folder that i place my web app files in. I would like to know if this is a MVC related issue or a GoDaddy issue. I suspect that MVC may want to sit in the root directory of the site, and when it puts the "jps" into the URLs it breaks the routing mechanisms (but this is conjecture). I know Dan said this was possible so I'm hoping he sees this and helps me get to the bottom of this deployment strategy for MVC.

  Hi, I'm using Delphitwain (delphitwain.sourceforge.net) to add scan functionality to my app. Everything was fine, when i click scan button on my app it will show scan mode with scanner's Properties such as Page Size, Scanning Side (canon dr-3010c) and there is a Scan button and Cancel button. If i click cancel of course all the properties back to it's value before. • Interpolating environment variables into a string in Ruby using String#scan

  I'm trying to interpolate environment variables into a string in Ruby and not having much luck. One of my requirements is to do something (log an error, prompt for input, whatever) if a placeholder is found in the initial string that has no matching environment variable. It looks like the block form of String#scan is what I need. • Flex 3: should I provide prepared data to my component or make it to process data before display?

  I'm starting to learn a little Flex just for fun and maybe to prove that I still can learn something new :) I have some idea for a project and one of its parts is a tree component which could display data in different ways depending on configuration. The idea There is list of objects having properties like id, date, time, name, description. And sometimes list should be displayed like this: first level: date second level: time third level: name and sometimes like this: first level: year second level: month third level: day fourth level: time and name By level I mean level of nesting of course. So, we can have years, that have months, that have days, that have hours and so forth. The problem What could be the best way to do it? I mean, should I prepare data for different ways of nesting outside of component or even outside of flex? I can do it at web service level in C# where I plan to have database access layer and send to flex nice and ready to display XML or array of objects. But I wonder if that won't cause additional and maybe unneccessary network traffic. I tried to hack some code in my component to convert my data objects into XML or ArrayCollection but I don't know enough of Flex and got stuck on elimination of duplicates or getting specific data by some key value. Usually to do such things I have STL with maps, sets and vectors and I find Flex arrays and even Dictionary a little bit confusing (I've read language reference and googled without any significant luck). The question So, to sum things up: should I give my tree component data prepared just for chosen type of display or should I try to do it internally inside component (or some helper class written in ActionScript)?

  In this example com.test.Cat extends com.test.Animal and there is no field DB in CAT table of com.test.Cat explicitly defining its type (it wasn't me). When I query my animals from DB I get a collection of Animals. It is possible to sort them by class name: order by r.class but is there a way to use class name as a criteria? For example I would like to get all animals expect dogs. But no luck - even this does not work: where r.class = ?   Background Working in .NET 2.0 Here, reflecting lists in general. I was originally using t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable)) to detect if a Property I was traversing supported the IEnumerable Interface. (And thus I could cast the object to it safely) However this code was not evaluating to True when the object is a BindingList<T>. Next I tried to use t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable)) and didn't have any luck either. • Deploying ASP.NET MVC to IIS6: pages are just blank

  I have an MVC app that is actually on a couple other servers but I didn't do the deploy. For this deploy I have added the wildcard to aspnet_isapi.dll which has gotten rid of the 404 error. But the pages are not pulling up, rather everything is just blank. I can't seem to find any IIS configuration differences. The Global asax.cs file does have routing defined, but as I've seen on a working server, that file isn't just hanging out in the root or anything so obvious. What could I be missing here? All of the servers are running IIS6 and I have compared the setups and they look the same to me at this point. Thanks... • asp.net doesn't render Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager._initialize code

  i'm using the ASP.NET 2.0 Ajax Extensions on a web site. as always, everything is fine on local but the remote web site does not use ajax calls. my local server has the ASP.NET Ajax extensions installed but the remote one doesn't. i know that i should be able to use the Ajax extensions without installing them. so in turn, i added the extensions' .dll among the web site's references but still no luck. after my further investigation, i found out that local and remote pages have exactly the same HTML code rendered, except that the local (working) one has these lines //<![CDATA[ Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager._initialize('ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$ScriptManager1', document.getElementById('aspnetForm')); Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance()._updateControls(['tctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$updReportArgs','tctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$updReport'], ['ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$chkTumu','ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$btnGetir'], [], 90); //]]> obviously, these are the lines of code that make callbacks possible. the question is why doesn't asp.net render these lines? what could be missing? by the way, the ScriptResource.axd and WebResource.axd doesn't give a 404 or anything, i can see through their js codes via Firebug. and one more thing: i'm unsure if it is related or not, but there are client-side asp.net validators on the page whose js code are not rendered either. again, those work fine locally. for further investigation you can see the remote site here : http://www.ajitatif.com/subdomains/nazer/Raporlar/danismanbasarim.aspx

• MySQL can't access root account or reset with mysqladmin

  So if I type mysql -u root I'm supposedly logged in, however upon trying to create or access a database I get this lovely error: ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'test1'. I haven't the foggiest idea why after logging in as root it's trying access DB's as ''@'localhost' and it's driving me a bit crazy right now. Possibly related, when I try to set the root password I get the error mysqladmin: Can't turn off logging; error: 'Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation'. I've tried removing mysql-server via running apt-get purge mysql-server and then reinstalling with no luck. This is running Ubuntu Server 12.10 64-bit and mysql is indeed running. --Edit-- I wonder if perhaps there is no root user. So I try to start MySQL with --skip-grant-tables and the create the root user but then I'm given this: ERROR 1290 (HY000): The MySQL server is running with the --skip-grant-tables option so it cannot execute this statement. • WCF service returns error 500 on /js request

  I have a wcf service that randomly begins to fail when requesting the autogenerated javascript that wcf supports making. But I have no luck tracking down why. The js thing is part of the wcf featureset, so I dont know how it can suddenly begin to fail and be unable to work until IIS is recycled. The http log gives me: 2010-06-10 09:11:49 W3SVC2095255988 myip GET /path/myservice.svc/js _=1276161113900 80 - ip browser 500 0 0 So its an error 500, and that is about the only thing I can figure out. The event log contains no information. Requests to /path/myservice.svc works just fine. • need primitive public key signature with out of band key distribution

  I pretty much a complete neophyte at this signature business so I don't know if what I'm asking is nonsense or not. Anyway, here goes... I want to send an out of band message (don't worry about how it gets there) to a program I've written on a distant machine. I want the program to have some confidence the message is legit by attaching a digital signature to the message. The message will be small less than 200 characters. It seems a public key based signature is what I want to use. I could embed the public key in the program. I understand that the program would be vulnerable to attack by anyone who modifies it BUT I'm not too worried about that. The consequences are not dire. I've looked through the MSDN and around the web but the prospect of diving in is daunting. I'm writing in straight c++, no NET framework or other fancy stuff. I've had no experience including NET framework stuff and little luck during previous attempts. Can anyone point me at some very basic resources to get me started? I need to know 1)how to generate the public and private keys 2)how to sign the message 3)how to verify the signature Any help much appreciated. TIA, Mike

• mySQL ORDER BY ASC works, DESC does not...

  I've "integrated" SMF into Wordpress by querying the forum for a list of the most recent videos from a specific forum board and displaying them on the Wordpress homepage. However when I add the ORDER BY clause, the query (which I tested on other parts of the same page successfully), breaks. To add to the mix, I am using the Auto Embed plugin to allow the videos to be played on the homepage, as well as using a jCarousel feature to rotate them. People were kind enough to help me here last time with the regexp to filter the video urls, I'm hoping for the same luck this time! • jQuery Autocomplete & jTemplates - handling response

  Has anyone had any experience with using jTemplates to display autocomplete results.   Need to programmatically click an html button from a login event (code behind? the html button sends variables to Flash using method: no response - with no postback and uses ExternalInterface API via javascript. Going from SWF ASPX is great, but need to send User.Identity to SWF from ASPX via javascript after authenticate with login event which am having impossible time getting to work... (calling HTML event from Login button) tried scripting in javascript to login event with no luck, possibly because postback clears SWF variables - so perhaps keeping separate (login then html send) would work... • Modify shell script to monitor/ping multiple ip addresses

  Alright so I need to constantly monitor multiple routers and computers, to make sure they remain online. I have found a great script here that will notify me via growl(so i can get instant notifications on my phone) if a single ip cannot be pinged. I have been attempting to modify the script to ping multiple addresses, with little luck. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to ping a down server while the script keeps watching the online servers. any help would be greatly appreciated. • Add ability to provide list items to composite control with DropDownLIst

  I'm creating a composite control for a DropDownList (that also includes a Label). The idea being that I can use my control like a dropdown list, but also have it toss a Label onto the page in front of the DDL. I have this working perfectly for TextBoxes, but am struggling with the DDL because of the Collection (or Datasource) component to populate the DDL. Basically I want to be able to do something like this: <ecc:MyDropDownList ID="AnimalType" runat="server" LabelText="this is what will be in the label"> <asp:ListItem Text="dog" Value="dog" /> <asp:ListItem Text="cat" Value="cat" /> </ecc:MyDropDownList> The problem is, I'm not extending the DropDownList class for my control, so I can't simply work it with that magic. I need some pointers to figure out how I can turn my control (MyDropDownList), which is currently just a System.Web.UI.UserControl, into something that will accept List items within the tag and ideally, I'd like to be able to plug it into a datasource (the same functions that the regular DDL offers). I tried with no luck just extending the regular DDL, but couldn't get the Label component to fly with it.

• Malloc inside another function (ANSI C)

  Hi I'll go straight to it. I'm working on an assignment, where I suddenly ran into trouble. I have to allocate a struct from within another function, obviously using pointers. I've been staring at this problem for hours and tried in a million different ways to solve it. This is some sample code (very simplified): ... some_struct s; printf("Before: %d\n", &s"); allocate(&s); printf("After: %d\n", &s"); ... /* The allocation function */ int allocate(some_struct *arg) { arg = malloc(sizeof(some_struct)); printf("In function: %d\n", &arg"); return 0; } This does give me the same address before and after the allocate-call: Before: -1079752900 In function: -1079752928 After: -1079752900 I know it's probably because it makes a copy in the function, but I don't know how to actually work on the pointer I gave as argument. I tried defining some_struct *s instead of some_struct s, but no luck. I tried with: int allocate(some_struct **arg) which works just fine (the allocate-function needs to be changed as well), BUT according to the assignment I may NOT change the declaration, and it HAS to be *arg.. And it would be most correct if I just have to declare some_struct s.. Not some_struct *s. I hope I make sense and some of you out there can help me :P Thanks in advice

• How to call Twiter's Streaming/Filter Feed with urllib2/httplib?

Hi All- I'm attempting to play around with Twitter's Streaming (aka firehose) API with Google App Engine (I'm aware this probably isn't a great long term play as you can't keep the connection perpetually open with GAE), but so far I haven't had any luck getting my program to actually parse the results returned by Twitter. Some code: logging.debug("firing up urllib2") req = urllib2.Request(url="http://%s%s" % (self.host, self.url), data=self.body, headers=self.headers) logging.debug("called urlopen for %s %s, about to call urlopen" % (self.host, self.url)) fobj = urllib2.urlopen(req) logging.debug("called urlopen") When this executes, unfortunately, my debug output never shows the called urlopen line printed. I suspect what's happening is that Twitter keeps the connection open and urllib2 doesn't return because the server doesn't terminate the connection. Wireshark shows the request being sent properly and a response returned with results. I tried adding Connection: close to my request header, but that didn't yield a successful result. Any ideas on how to get this to work? thanks -Simon

• jquery png fix on hidden div and jquerybrowser question

  Hello, I have some code that if Javascript is available, it will remove a GIF image and replace it with a PNG image. The PNG is display:none and the GIF is visible. Since IE6- browsers can't load PNG, I have loaded the jquery PNG fix. But it only seems to work if the image is already visible. • Dragging a copy of all selected elements from a select box--possible?

  I have a picklist web interface: a pair of select elements with a pair of buttons (a left-pointing arrow and a right-pointing arrow) between them. Users can move items between the two columns by, eg, selecting one of options in the left column and clicking on the right-pointing arrow. Now I have an enhancement request: someone wants to be able to drag-and-drop items between the two columns instead of clicking a button. The problem with my initial two-select-box setup is that as soon as I click one of the highlighted options to initiate a drag, all of the other selected options are deselected. Using jQuery, I've attached mousedown event handlers to both the select boxes and each individual option that just call preventDefault() on the event object, but this isn't sufficient. On Firefox 3 the clicked-on option loses focus immediately, but all other options are still deseleted, and on IE6 (which I regrettably still have to support) it makes no difference at all. So I thought I could maybe create a reasonable facsimile of a select box using list elements or divs or something. I can create something reasonable-looking that works on Firefox, but on IE6, if I shift-click on an element of my pseudo-select object (in order to select a range of options), IE selects all of the text between where I click and the last place I clicked. Again, I've attached preventDefault-ing mousedown, mouseup, and click handlers to all of the elements involved, but it doesn't help. I've even tried overlaying transparent divs over both my original select boxes and my pseudo-select objects, thinking to intercept mouse clicks and manage the selections manually, but I can't make it work on IE. If I use a select box, I can't prevent clicks from changing the selection, and if I use text that just looks like a select element, I can't prevent it from selecting a range of text on a shift-click. Is there some general solution, or am I just out of luck?

• How to get debugging of an App Engine application working?

  I've got 10+ years in C/C++, and it appears Visual Studio has spoilt me during that time. In Visual Studio, debbuging issimple: I just add a breakpoint to a line of code, and as soon as that code is executed, my breakpoint triggers, at which point I can view a callstack, local/member variables, etc. I'm trying to achieve this functionality under App Engine. I assume that is possible? All the searching I've done to this point has led me to using Pydev in Eclipse. As best I can tell, I am successfully launching my simple 'hello world' program in Debug mode. But the IDE doesn't even seem to have an option to set a breakpoint? I must be missing something. I've googled long and hard about this, but am having no luck. Most results trace back to the same old threads that don't deal directly with my issue. Can anyone shed some light on how you get basic debugging setup using Pydev/Eclipse with App Engine? Alternatively, if there's an easier way to debug App Engine than using Pydev/Eclipse, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

• Using authsmtp from a Grails server

  This is quite a specific question, and I have had no luck on the grails nabble forum, so I thought I would post here. I am using the grails mail plug-in, but I think my question is a general one about using authsmtp as an email gateway from my server. I am having trouble sending mail from my app using authsmtp. I have installed and configured the mail plugin and was originally using my ISP's SMTP server to send mails. However when I deployed to AWS EC2 this failed because my elastic IP was blocked by the SMTP host. So I bought myself an authsmtp account and set up my server email address as an accepted one at authsmtp. I then changed my configuration in SecurityConfig.groovy to point to the authsmtp server that I had been designated... mailHost = "mail.authsmtp.com" mailUsername = "myusername" mailPassword = "mypassword" mailProtocol = "smtp" mailFrom = "[email protected]" mailPort = 2525 ...and I'm just trying to get this to work locally before I deploy back up to AWS. Sending mail fails and in my log I have this exception: 2010-02-13 10:59:44,218 [http-8080-1] ERROR service.EmailerService - Failed to send emails: Failed messages: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 513 5.0.0 Your email system must authenticate before sending mail. org.springframework.mail.MailSendException; nested exception details (1) are: Failed message 1: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 513 5.0.0 Your email system must authenticate before sending mail. at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueSendCommand(SMTPTransport.java:1388) at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.mailFrom(SMTPTransport.java:959) at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(SMTPTransport.java:583) I'm a bit lost since the username and password I provide in the configuration are definitely correct. A terse and not very helpful conversation with authsmtp support suggests that I need to MD5 and/or base64 encode my credentials before sending, so my question is in three parts... 1) any idea what's going on with the failure and why that message is appearing? 2) how would I encode the credentials to pass to authsmtp and how would I configure that for the mail plugin 3) has anyone successfully connected and sent mail through authsmtp from the mail plugin and specifically from AWS EC2?
