    Is this a realistic solution to the problems associated with larger .mdb files: split the large .mdb file into smaller .mdb files have one 'central' .mdb containing links to the tables in the smaller .mdb files How easy would it be to make this change to an .mdb backed VB application? Could the changes to the database be done so that there are no changes required to the front-end application?

  • SQL statement HAVING MAX(some+thing)=some+thing

    I'm having trouble with Microsoft Access 2003, it's complaining about this statement: select cardnr from change where year(date)<2009 group by cardnr having max(time+date) = (time+date) and cardto='VIP' What I want to do is, for every distinct cardnr in the table change, to find the row with the latest (time+date) that is before year 2009, and then just select the rows with cardto='VIP'. This validator says it's OK, Access says it's not OK. This is the message I get: "you tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression 'max(time+date)=time+date and cardto='VIP' and cardnr=' as part of an aggregate function." Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong and the right way to do it? Thanks

  • How to execute stored procedure from Access using linked tables

    I have an Access 2003 database that connects to a SQL Server 2008 box via ODBC. The tables from SQL Server are connected as linked tables in Access. I have a stored procedure on the SQL Server that I am trying to execute via ADO code. The problem I have is that Access cannot seem to find the procedure. What do I have to do within Access to be able to execute this stored procedure? Some facts ... The stored procedure in question accepts one parameter which is an integer. The stored procedure returns a recordset which I am hoping to use as the datasource for a ListBox. Here is my ADO code in Access ...     I have my Access 2007 database configured to use "Custom" groups in the navigation pane. I've grouped all my tables in a way that makes sense. However, whenever I update a link table, it loses its grouping. I have not been able to find a way to avoid this. Since it seems to be unavoidable, I'd like to simply have a macro that adds the table back to the right group programatically. I have not found any examples on how to do this. Any suggestions?

  • Why does my report recalculate totals when I scroll in Access '07?

    Whenever I make a report in Access '07 and include some sort of total (whether counting or summing values), when I'm viewing the preview and scroll, the total recalculate. This is really annoying as Access takes a while (several tenths of a second) to do this, and while it does that the totals go blank. I've looked for a solution online, but I can't find this issue described anywhere. How can I stop the totals from recalculating when I scroll? I'm hoping for a simple solution that would solve this for all reports, or perhaps a simple property tweak on each report. I don't want to have to add code for every single report! I should describe the report layouts I'm using - they contain rows of data all on one page, and at times I group the rows. The number of rows aren't major, maybe around 50 a time or so.

Sometimes there is more than one inspection in a month, sometimes there is no inspection. However, the report that is desired by the clients requires that I have EXACTLY ONE record per month for the time frame they request the report. They understand the data issues and have stated that if there is more than one inspection in a month to take the latest one. If the is not an inspection for that month, go back in time untill you find one and use that one. I will now say what I have tried. Although if someone else has a better approach, I am perfectly willing to throw away what I have done and do it differently... STEP 1: create a query that removes the duplicates from the data. Ie. only one record per equip_id for each month/year, keeping the latest one. (done successfully) STEP 2: create a table of the date ranges the client wants the report for. (This is done dynamically at runtime) This table two field, Month and Year. So if the client wants a report from FEb 2008 to March 2010 the table would look like: Month Year 2 2008 3 2008 . . . 12 2008 1 2009 . . . 12 2009 1 2010 2 2010 3 2010 I then left joined this table with my query from step 1. So now I have a record for every month and every year that they want the report for, with nulls(or blanks) or sometimes 0s (not sure why, access is weird, but sometiems they are nulls and sumtimes they are 0s...) for the runtimes that are not avaiable. I don't particurally like this solution, but ill do it if i have to. (this is also done successfully) STEP 3: Fill in the missing runtime values. This I HAVE NOT done successfully. Note that if the request range for the report is feb 2008 to march 2010 and the oldest record for a particular equip_id is say june 2008, it is O.K. for the runtimes to be null (or zeros) for feb - may 2008. I am working with the following query for this step: SELECT equip_id as e_id,year,month, (select top 1 runhours from qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month a where a.equip_id = e_id order by year,month) FROM qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month where runhours is null or runhours = 0; UNION SELECT equip_id, year, month, runhours FROM qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month WHERE .runhours Is Not Null And runhours <> 0 However I clearly can't check the a.equip_id = e_id ... so i don't have anyway to make sure i'm looking at the correct equip_id SUMMARY: So like i said i'm willing to throw away any part, or all of what I tried. Just trying to give everyone a complete picture. I REALLY apreciate ANY help! Thanks so much in advance!

  • Access 2007: Dynamic SQL to be run when opening a report

    I'm trying to have some SQL execute when I open a report. This works fine when I try to match on a column that's an integer with an integer, but when I try to match on a "text" column, it keeps popping up a dialog asking for what you want to filter on. Here's a somple query: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_number = '444-444-4444' This is actually a sub-query I'm trying to use, but this is where the problem is. If I change it to this it works fine: select person_phone_numbers.person_id from person_phone_numbers where phone_id = 2 I put this in the OnOpen event and I'm assigning it to Me.RecordSource if that makes a difference. My goal here is to have a form accept query parameter(s) and have it open a report with the results. Any thoughts on why it wants to ask for a parameter vs. just running the query the way I have it?

  • HTML, PHP No data in drop down box

    Hey, I am trying to figure out why a website's drop down box will not show any options. The data file for this drop down box comes from a microsoft access .mde file. The file is present and after the last update was working fine. Some changes happened to the site, i.e. text got added along with some photos. Im not saying this was when the drop down box went bad, but when it was discovered these were the only changes made. The data file seems fine as it is worked with everyday. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to begin looking for the bug?   • It's easy to set a breakpoint when debugging VBA, but how about a "startpoint" or a "skippoint"?

    I'm debugging a subroutine in my VBA code. I want to ignore the first half and just run the second half. So, is there a way to set a 'startpoint'? Also, is there an easy way to ignore a specific line of code other than commenting? If not, I'll just continue commenting out all the code I don't want run. The problem with this, of course, is that I have to remember to uncomment the critical code before I send it on to Production.

  • Importing Excel spreadsheet data into existing Access DB

    I've designed an Access 2003 DB with 3 tables: APPLICATIONS, SERVERS, and INSTALLATIONS. Records in the APPLICATIONS and SERVERS tables are uniquely identified by a synthetic primary key (in Access, an "auto number"). The INSTALLATIONS table is essentially a mapping table between APPLICATIONS and SERVERS: it's a list of records of which applications are installed on which servers. A record in the INSTALLATIONS table is also identified by a synthetic primary key, and it consists of an APPLICATION_ID and SERVER_ID for the records in their respective tables. I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet I would like to import into this database, but it's proving difficult. The spreadsheet is made up of several tabs/worksheets, each one representing a server with its own listing of installed applications. I'm not sure how to proceed with an import - the "Get External Data -- Import" feature in Access has an import "In an Existing Table" option, but it's greyed out. I'm also unsure how I build the relationships between applications and servers for importing records into the INSTALLATIONS table. I had previously fooled around with adding some security to the Access DB file. I think I removed everything but perhaps I didn't and that's causing the problem? When it comes to two notebooks (clients) connecting to one access database through switches, it throws DBConcurrency Exception Error.   • Does Microsoft Access use the PK fields for anything?

    Ok this is going to sound strange, but I have inherited an app that is an Access front end with a SQL Server backend. I am in the process of writing a new front end for it, but... we need to continue using the access front end for a while even after we deploy my new front end for reasons I won't go into. So both the existing Access app and my new app will need to be able to access and work with the data. The problem is the database design is a nightmare. For example some simple parent-child table relationships have like 4 and 5 part composite primary keys. I would REALLY like to remove these PKs and replace them with unique constraints or whatever, and add a new column to each of these tables called ID that is just an identity. If I change the PK and FKs on these tables to more managable fields, will the Access app have problems? What I mean is, does access use the meta data from the tables (PK and FK info) in such a way that it would break the app to change these?

    The VSTO bit I understand. Visual Studio has the project templates to get you started with creating nice .NET based add-ins. But where is VSTA? I installed the SDK but it seems to be gears towards adding extensibility to your own applications. I had thought that VSTA was like the new VBA for Office 2007. Infopath 2007 seems to be VSTA enabled but I cannot seem to find where Excel 2007 is also VSTA enabled. Am I missing something?

    I need to export a gridview to excel, I put the return html code from the gridview to a HtmlTextWriter and put this into the response. The result file work fine in excel, excel can parse the html and the result is readable, work perfect on excel 2003 and 2007, but in some machines with Excel 2008 (MACOS) excel shows only the raw html code and can't process this html code. Any idea to configure excel?     I am working on a loan amortization schedule using Access, I have created the following tables: tblMembers - autoMemberID|txtLN|txtFN|etc tblLoans - autoLoanID|numMemberID|etc tblSchedules -autoScheduleID|numLoanID|numPayment#|datDue|dblBegin|...|dblEnd tblPayments - autoPaymID|numLoanID|curAmtPaid|datPaidDate and forms: frmLoans - autoLoanID|etc sbfSchedules - numPaymID|datDue|dblBegin|...|dblEnd sbfPayments - dblAmount|datPaid I have been able to generate the schedule (using DAO recordset) clicking a btnRepaymentSchedule the challenge is when I click a btnAddPayment still on the sbfSchedules, I want the value of the dblEnd field to be the value of the next record dblBegin field! I have tried using dlookup(txtBeginBalance = Dlookup("EndBalance", _ "Schedules","[ScheduleID] = Form![Schedules]![ScheduleID]-1) but there is no effect but if I use txtBeginBalance = txtEndBalance the value of txtEndBalance is assigned to the value of txtBeginBalance of the same record (want next record). Secondly, how can I set focus to the next record if a contro(txtAmountPaid) is not null on clicking the btnAddPayment or assigning the value of a calculation when the control is 0 or null ? Thanks
