• Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one). • Javascript large number array compression

  Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either.   I am able to get the following JS to create IFRAME and add it to the page. The issue is if I create JS method on the page and ivoke it on a button click it works. But when I try to inject the same JS into the page url via setting the location.href it does not work the right way , rather it replaces the existing page with a new iframe.   Hi, I have the following JSON object which has a date field in the following format: { "AlertDate": "\/Date(1277334000000+0100)\/", "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } I want to write a regular expression or a function to convert it to a javascript object so that it is in the form: { "AlertDate": "AlertDate":new Date(1277334000000), "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } The above date format fails validation in the JQuery parseJSON method. I would like to convert the 1277334000000+0100 into the correct number of milliseconds to create the correct date when eval is called after validation. • Javascript Phone Swap

  I've been trying to find a way to do this but, have not found many resources that specifically relate to this situation. I need a javascript (can make use of Jquery if need be) to swap phone numbers on a site. 2 numbers would be specified. One would show on the site by default. The script needs to be able to create a cookie and do this by recognizing a value in the URL string. For Example: http://www.site.com/index.html?value= '?value=' would be the value. This URL (with the additional variable) would bring the user to the same site but, the variable in the string would set the cookie and display a different number. The default number would not be displayed again until the cookies were removed. Due to the situation with my server, I cannot make use of PHP ( I know, that would make things alot easier :P ) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have searched a lot on google found a lot of interesting libraries like Raphaël and its extention Dracula. Google has its own library to make flowcharts too. Unfortunally, every library make a relation between nodes with a sigle line. If A and B has a relation to C, I will obtain 2 line: one from A to C and one from B to C.   Hello, I am working with php and mysql. I have one dropdown box where I am asking datatype of mysql field. Now, I want to put javascript validation for it. I am confused with the enum datatype. I am using regular expression /^[']{1}[^',^\\]+[']{1}$/. This is for one single value of enum values. It is working fine but issue is when I put single quote or backslash with backslash, it is valid but this regular expression shows it as invalid. For eg, 'a'b' is invalid but 'a\'b' is valid.

• Select item in CascadingDropDown via JavaScript & invoke update

  In code-behind I can do this to select something: // Select item in first DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_1.SelectedValue = itemValue_1+":::"+itemText_1; // Select item in second DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_2.SelectedValue = itemValue_2+":::"+itemText_2; How can I do this in JavaScript? (I'm aware, that I could search the list and set the selectedIndex property for each dropdown, but I have many items and i'm very lazy.) EDIT: npups answer works: I can select my desired item in the first dropdownlist. The problem is however, that new values based on that selected item (it is a CascadingDropDown, remember?) don't show in the second dropdown so I can't select anything there. I would need to somehow invoke the update method of the second dropdown manually: any suggestions?

  I need to replace some text that is on the page within the body tag. I am using javascript but have jquery available if needed. I basically need to replace test® (test with the registered trademark) with TEST® or tests® with TESTS® and it could even be test with TEST® or tests with TESTS®. I am able to uppercase them but its not liking to work for me with the ® sign, it wants to put duplicates on ones that already have it. Basically anything on the page that has the word test or tests should be TEST® or TESTS® if it is plural. Any help is appreciated.

  Hi this is driving me nuts. I believe I asked this exact same question but I can't find it anymore(I used stackoverflow search, google search, manually searched my posts, searched my code). I wanted something that would be like the C# String.Format where you could do something like string format = String.Format("Hi {0}",name); just for javascript of course and one person gave me a simple answer it was not like a jquery plugin or anything but I think you made some json thing or something and it worked and was simple to use.   Hi, I have a radioButtonList with 2 items in it. A radiobutton with a "Yes" value and a radionButton with a "No" value. Below that I have a panel which I want made visible when "Yes" radioButton is selected and hidden when "No" is selected. I had originally implemented this using the AutoPostBack attribute but I want to do it in Javascript so that it doesn't cause a postback. Here's the code.   I am trying to print an integer in Javascript with commas as thousands separators. For example, I want to show the number 1234567 as "1,234,567". How would I go about doing this? Here is how I am doing it: function numberWithCommas(x) { x = x.toString(); var pattern = /(-?\d+)(\d{3})/; while (pattern.test(x)) x = x.replace(pattern, "$1,$2"); return x; } I am wondering if anyone has a simpler or more elegant idea. It would be nice if it works with floats also, but that is not necessary. It does not need to be locale-specific to decide between periods and commas.

But if string is defined directly in the index.html, then it is not a problem. Can anyone suggest a solution on how to keep the text in the separate .js file?

  I'm writing a Javascript function that would manipulate an array written on-the-fly and sent as a parameter. The function is written as follows: function returnJourney(animation,clean){ var properties = {}; // loads of other inane stuff for(i in animation[0]) properties[animation[0][i]] = animation[0].i; // heaps more inane stuff } The animation in question is a set of parameters for a jQuery animation. Typically it takes the format of ({key:value,key:value},speedAsInteger,modifierAsString). So to kick off initial debugging I call it with: returnJouney(({'foo':'bar'},3000),1); And straight off the bat things are way off. As far as I see it this would have returnJourney acknowledge clean === 1, and animation being an array with an object as its first child and the number 3000 as its second. Firebug tells me animation evaluates as the number 3000. What am I doing wrong?

  I am new to Drupal and am trying to create a node (let's call it child) that will only really be accessed when clicked on from another node (we'll call it parent). When closing the child window, I want to parent window to refresh. Outside of Drupal, that's easy: <a onclick="window.close(); window.opener.location.reload();" href="#">Click to close this window</a> However, when I type this into the body of a node using Full HTML, it still strips the onclick text from my post. • Add another class to a div with javascript

  I have a function that checks the age of a form submission and then returns new content in a div depending on their age. right now I am just using getElementById to replace the html content. BUt I think would work better for me if I could also add a class to a div as well.
