    Are there any alternatives to using eval to immediatly run remote & trusted javascript code. function load(filePath) { var o = $.ajax({ url: filePath, dataType: 'html', async: false }); eval(o.responseText); } load("somePath"); // run a function that relies on the code from o.responseText being loaded doSomethingWithCode(); I'm aware that synchronous loading of javascript is adviced againts. But if there is no choice are there any cross browser alternatives for the use of eval above. [Edit] To clarify in more detail the code being loaded is a self executing function. Which needs to execute before doSomethingWidthCode. It's also being loaded from the server on the same domain hence its trusted.

    I occasionally hear things about how SQL sucks and it's not a good language, but I never really hear much about alternatives to it. So, are other good languages that serve the same purpose (database access) and what makes them better than SQL? Are there any good databases that use this alternative language? EDIT: I'm familiar with SQL and use it all the time. I don't have a problem with it, I'm just interested in any alternatives that might exist, and why people like them better. I'm also not looking for alternative kinds of databases (the NoSQL movement), just different ways of accessing databases.

  • Filezilla/Puttygen doesn't recognize private key file

    I have generated a key for an Ubuntu Virtual Machine running on Azure Cloud Services http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/manage/linux/how-to-guides/ssh-into-linux/ openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout myPrivateKey.key -out myCert.pem When loading the private key into Filezilla, it asks me to convert the format, however, when converting the key it fails, the same happens with puttygen from linux console, using this: puttygen myPrivateKey.key -o myKey.ppk In both cases I have the following error: puttygen: error loading `myPrivateKey.key': unrecognised key type By the way, this key doesn't have a passphrase. I found an old thread about it, but I'm using 0.6.3 version which is newer than what this thread recommends: http://fixunix.com/ssh/541874-puttygen-unable-import-openssh-key.html I've managed to solve this issue by using another gui client Fugu for Mac, but one of my co-worker uses windows and I still have to figure this out. Since Filezilla is the de-facto ftp client, I thought it would be easier to solve it there. Thanks

  • Using pscp and getting permission denied

    I'm using pscp to transfer files to a virtual ubuntu server using this command: pscp test.php user@server:/var/www/test.php and I get the error permission denied. If I try to transfer to the folder /home/user/ I have no problems. I guess this has to do with that the user I'm using doesn't have access to the folder /var/www/. When I use SSH I have to use sudo to get access to the /var/www/ path - and I do. Is it possible to specify that pscp should "sudo" transfers to the server so I can get access to the /var/www/ path and actually be able to transfer files to this folder?

    I have a *.ppk file given to me so I can SSH into a server. I'm using Ubuntu 10.x. What commands do I need to run so I have permission to SSH?     I had been using ADInsight from Sysinternals to trace Active Directory calls from my workstation, but the application has failed. Where previously the Active Directory events were traced and logged, now the window remains blank, whether the application is in capture mode or not. I have run as Administrator, rebooted, downloaded a new version; none of those actions has returned the program to a functional state. The Sysinternals forums don't offer much hope, since this tool is known to fail often. Is there tool that has similar functionality? Questions Does the tool fail when run from another workstation with your account? Yes Does it fail from your (and/or) another workstation using someone else's account? Yes Is there anything in the event log of your workstation? No

I am looking for a network management tool, similar to lansweeper that would be able to run on linux servers. I know questions asking for software suggestions are typically frowned upon, but I have looked high and low, and I'm starting to think nothing like this exists.     We've implemented an LDAP to NIS solution and have begun transitioning some systems to native LDAP binding for authentication and automount maps. Unfortunately we have a very mixed environment with more than 20 *nix environments. The setup for each variant is of course unique and has required various workarounds to get full functionality. We're now at the point where we're willing to revisit the solution and possibly migrate toward something like Likewise (http://www.likewise.org), but would like to know what others are using to solve this problem.

Now we've got: open source packages on Ubuntu that don't quite work out of the box (details on request). the actual source behind them, with a build process that depends on the c-shell and other obsolescences, available from two competing locations. a commercial packaging from Oracle a commercial package from Univa What I am really wishing for is something with the basic capabilities of this that is simple to install and maintain. Heck, I'd take a front-end to hadoop that just queues and distributes simple shell-script-defined jobs.

  • Alternatives to auditd and inotify for monitoring file deletion

    I'm trying to figure out which processes are deleting files from a specific directory on my CentOS server. I looked at inotify, but all this does is to tell me how many file deletions are occurring; it does not tell me what process run by which user did the deletions, nor does it tell me when they happened. I also tried auditd, but I have had no luck in getting it set up on my server. Does anyone have any other tool they can suggest that will do this?
