  • Are 'const' variables precomputed by default in C++?

    Suppose I have variables for positions like const float latitude = 51.+11./60.+33.0461/3600.; const float longitude = 12.+50./60.+31.9369/3600.; and use them frequently in the program. Does the compiler precompute that? (This example should not produce much overhead, but you get the point.) Bonus point for pointing out location. ;) TIA

  • How do I make image hyperlinks have a background image?

    I want all .jpg links to have a certain background image. so a link on a page like 'http://mysite/myimage.jpg' would automatically be prefixed with a small icon. Actually all links to images, ie .gif .png as well with the same icon. If the link is to a website, ie .htm/.php/.html/.asp it should have a different image. I want it to be through classes in CSS. Any help appreciated. TIA

    Why is that when I search a row in my database, it ended up 0 results? In fact, there are rows that meet my search criterion when I view them manually, but the search button doesnt work as it is. Heres how you can see there are rows that have '0000-00-00 00:00:00' in them, but when I used the search feature, it ended up like this: take note that Im entering it in the right field which is 'AcctStopTime'.     i have a web application that export CSV and i logged in as admin but what happened during the exportation the IE opens a new tab and export the CSV but what happens next when you click any of the link on the web app you will automatically logout!     Using Ubuntu Precise 64 bit, I'm facing a problem that I'm unable to solve and that I'll try to describe below: I'm using a console mode program (let's say abc) that uses Go, NodeJS, Java and Scala. In order for abc to work with these languages, I've to declare the following statements: a) within /etc/environment: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/local/go/bin" CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/usr/share/java/scala-library.jar b) within /etc/login.defs ENV_SUPATH PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/local/go/bin ENV_PATH PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/local/go/bin c) a) within /etc/sudoers: `# env_reset Defaults secure_path="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/local/go/bin"` Then, when I start abc from a terminal, all is fine and I can use any of the 4 languages described above. However, if I put a script within /etc/init.d that starts abc during the boot process (i.e. before to start the GUI), using Java from abc still is fine, but using Go, NodeJS or Scala doesn't work anymore. Then, I guess that during the boot process, the script within /etc/init.d that starts abc is executed before that the different environment variables set within /etc/sudoers, /etc/environment and /etc/login.defs are loaded. So, my question is: how to force the environment variables to be loaded before that my script starting abc is launched? Any help and advice on this topic would be trully appreciated. TIA. Cheers.   • WordPerfect programmers refusing to use anything but assembler

    There is a version (popularised by Joel Spolsky) attributing the demise of WordPerfect to a refusal of its programmers to use anything but assembler that led to delay of the first WPwin release and as result eventually to losing the all important battle with Microsoft. There are a few references to programming work being done using assembler in the autobiographical book "Almost Perfect" by W. E. Pete Peterson who used to have a major influence at running the corporation. But these references go back to early 80's when WordPerfect was trying to gain a significant market share by defeating WordStar and not early nineties when the battle with MS took place. I am looking for a second independent source to confirm the assumption. Maybe someone who worked for WordPerfect Corporation at a time, who was close to the company, or had a chance to see the source could clarify the issue. Your help is much appreciated, thanks! Please note that this question is not about any other theories or reasons behind WordPerfect demise. I really just need to clarify whether they used assembler as a primary language for WPwin and (as a bonus really) whether there were discussions held within the corporation about assembler being the right choice. Concisely: Did WPCorp use assembler as a primary language for WPwin? Were discussions held at a time amongst WP Corp staff about assembler being the right choice (was it management or programmers decision)?

  • Cannot log to Proxmox GUI

    I'm running proxmox on debian 6.0.8 kernel 2.6.32-18-pve. When I try to log into the GUI with the root password, it lets me in for about 2 seconds then asks for the password again: <hostname>:8006/api2/json/cluster/resources 401 (permission denied - invalid ticket) This is not the same behavior as when I give an incorrect password. I suspect a hostname problem, but I can't sort it out. My /etc/hosts contains the following line: <ip> <shorthostname> <longhostname> pvelocalhost The folder /etc/pve/nodes contains a folder name The https certificates matches the hostname. Any idea? I need to verify the following parameter settings: core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited file size (blocks, -f) unlimited open files (-n) 65536 stack size (kbytes, -s) unlimited cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited Sure I could use ulimit -cH to get display above. But I also need to find where those settings are. I'm from Linux, in Linux we have /etc/security/limts.conf file to hold alike information. Do we have such file in Solaris? TIA!

VMWare vSphere sounds great but because of low budget I can't afford for both licenses and SANs. Without SAN, is vSphere worth the price? As I know without SAN, the VMWare HA, VMontion, FT is unavailable. So, do I need vSphere or only ESXi free version assume that I only need backup vm daily?   • Remote Control software for Mac

    One of the things I like about Microsoft's RDC Client is that the resolution of the experience is set by the client and not, say, a physical monitor connected to the host, as is the case with VNC; the latter being the protocol used by Mac. This means that even though I'm connecting to a notebook with a 1280x800 physical resolution, via RDC I can run it at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. However, that only seems to work for RDC. Does anyone know of something I can run on the Mac that will allow me to remotely control it at a different resolution than what is physically set? TIA, Mark

Is anyone aware of anything different with Yahoo! that would stop these from signing? TIA

I've seen many answers to this question involving find/ls/stat/readlink and $PWD, but none that suits my need. It looks like the closest answer is ksh's "whence" command, but I need it to work in sh/bash. Assume a file, foo.txt, is located in my home directory, /Users/matthew/foo.txt. I need the following behavior, despite what my current working directory is (I'm calling the command "abs"): (PWD is ~) $ abs foo.txt /Users/matthew/foo.txt $ abs ~/foo.txt /Users/matthew/foo.txt $ abs ./foo.txt /Users/matthew/foo.txt $ abs /Users/matthew/foo.txt /Users/matthew/foo.txt What would "abs" really be?
