• Success verification of mail() function PHP

  Hi Is it possible to check if the php can get some kind of a ping/flag back from exchange mail server to say "yes, email has been sent off to the intended recipient"? According to the PHP manual, the return of mail() boolean could mean; "It is important to note that just because the mail was accepted for delivery, it does NOT mean the mail will actually reach the intended destination." Does this mean, PHP can return success but actually there could be a problem on the mail server that php wouldn't know about it? and in this case no email has been sent and the user is none the wiser? • Concatenating text in an ASP.NET localized label

  Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...') Of course, this doesn't work... and neither does anything I can think of to concatenate a ':' onto the end of the localized text. Anyone know how to do it? TIA, James

  Anybody got any any tutorials that cover these subjects ... the official MS 70-536 book covers this but I don't want to take any chances as I want additional reading materials problem is, its proving difficult to find anything on it. It's a fairly big subject so am hoping somone on here as here as got some good reading materials on that cover these subjects. At this very moment in time, im reading this; Tutorial01 Its not much, but its a good starting point. I'm not a big fan MSDN and the way its structured and layout, I mainly use it for framework related questions like classes and interfaces and etc. WHen it comes to tutorials, i prefer thrid party websites. • Sending a file from my application (Indy/Delphi) to an ASP page and then onto another server (Amazon

  I have a need to store files on Amazon AWS S3, but in order to isolate the user from the AWS authentication I want to go via an ASP page on my site, which the user will be logged into. So: The application sends the file using the Delphi Indy library TidHTTP.Put (FileStream) routine to the ASP page, along with some authentication stuff (mine, not AWS) on the querystring. The ASP page checks the auth details and then if OK stores the file on S3 using my Amazon account. Problem I have is: how do I access the data coming in from the Indy PUT using JScript in the ASP page and pass it on to S3. I'm OK with AWS signing, etc, it's just the nuts and bolts of connecting the two bits (the incoming request and the outgoing AWS request) ... TIA R

• Missing [mx.rpc]::IResponder

  I'm trying to use the Flex 4 SDK's mx.rpc package in a Flash application. I imported Flex's rpc.swc (Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\libs\rpc.swc) into my project by adding it to the list in Flash's "Publish Settings/Flash/ActionScrip 3.0 Settings/Library Path". It seems like I have access to the classes, however when I compile I get this error: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: [mx.rpc]::IResponder. There's no location or line for the error either. Any idea how to get this to work? TIA! Notes: I'm using Flash Builder 4 and Flash CS5

• How to populate List<string> with Datarow values from single columns...

  Hi, I'm still learning (baby steps). Messing about with a function and hoping to find a tidier way to deal with my datatables. For the more commonly used tables throughout the life of the program, I'll dump them to datatables and query those instead. What I'm hoping to do is query the datatables for say column x = "this", and convert the values of column "y" directly to a List to return to the caller: private List<string> LookupColumnY(string hex) { List<string> stringlist = new List<string>(); DataRow[] rows = tblDataTable.Select("Columnx = '" + hex + "'", "Columny ASC"); foreach (DataRow row in rows) { stringlist.Add(row["Columny"].ToString()); } return stringlist; } Anyone know a slightly simpler method? I guess this is easy enough, but I'm wondering if I do enough of these if iterating via foreach loop won't be a performance hit. TIA!

• How to produce a merged RSS feed (from DokuWiki and Serendipity)

  Hi, I've got an application developed on top of DokuWiki. I'd like to provide a 'News' page providing the latest updates from the internal RSS feed, some other feeds maintained in Serendipity and potentially other locations. Although its trivial to attach feed parsers to each one individually, I'd like to aggregate this into a single list (possibly a single RSS feed). Both the DokuWiki and Serendipity servers are not connected to the internet - so I can't use an external service for this - looking for code. Anybody got any ideas? TIA C.

• Override delete behaviour in NHibernate

  Hi all In my application users cannot truly delete records. Rather, the record's Deleted field gets set to 1, which hides it from selects. I need to maintain this behaviour and I'm looking into whether NHibernate is appropriate for my app. Can I override NHibnernate's delete behaviour so that instead of issuing DELETE statements, it issues UPDATES, as described above? I would obviously also need to override its SELECT behaviour to include the 'AND Deleted = 0' clause. Or read from a view instead. I dunno. TIA for your advice. David

• Positioning divs inside a container div without the content of an upper div affecting the position o

  Hi. I'm trying to accomplish the following layout, and I'm almost there, except for the last green div, which is going lower and lower depending on the content of the content (white) div. If I set a value for the TOP property for the green div, and then I add some more text to the content div, the green div goes lower and lower. Since the green div is child to the main container div, and the green div is relatively positioned, isn't it supposed to be placed specifically at the position indicated by the TOP value of it? If I'm incorrect...can someone please tell me how can i make it so that the green div is always displayed at the same spot within the container (gray) div, regardless of the height of the content/white div?   Hi folks, // Major edit, sorry in bed with back pain, screwed up post One of the ad agencies I code for had me set up an alternate scrolling solution because you know how designers hate things that just work but aren't beautiful. The scrolling solution is applied to divs with overflow:hidden and uses jQuery's scrollTo(). So, this is married in places to their CMS. What I have not been able to sort yet is how to hide the scrolling UI when overflow:auto would not have been triggered by the CMS content. The divs have set heights and widths. Can i detect hidden content? Or measure the div contents' height? Any ideas? TIA JG

• Why does localization with resx files fail with ZH (chinese) only?

  Howdy All, I've been tasked with localizing an English language ASP.NET MVC 2.0 website into 7 additional languages. I've added resource files to the Views Home App_LocalResources folder: Example: Index.resx, Index.es.resx, Index.fr.resx, Index.zh.resx, etc. I have set the CustomTool to PublicResXFileCodeGenerator (Access modifier is Public), Set file as an Embedded Resource, Set a Custom Tool Namespace. The keys ("Name") in all of the files are the same. For 7 languages this works perfectly. If I go into IE 8 settings and change the language to de,fr,it, etc., the page shows the appropriate translated strings. However, when I set the language in the Browser to any of the zh (Simplified Chinese) variants localization completely fails and the English strings are displayed. Is there something special about Simplified Chinese? Japanese and Korean work without problems. TIA, Trey Carroll

  One of the things I like about Microsoft's RDC Client is that the resolution of the experience is set by the client and not, say, a physical monitor connected to the host, as is the case with VNC; the latter being the protocol used by Mac. This means that even though I'm connecting to a notebook with a 1280x800 physical resolution, via RDC I can run it at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. However, that only seems to work for RDC. Does anyone know of something I can run on the Mac that will allow me to remotely control it at a different resolution than what is physically set? TIA, Mark

  Can anybody help me with retrieving some elements from the following example text: sdfaasdflj asdfjl;a AB-12/34 BC-/85 CD-//8 DD-77 DE-78/9 EE-78-98 asdf; asdjf It is necessary to get the following elements: AB-12/34, BC-/85, CD-//8, DD-77, DE-78/9 When I'm using a regular expression like this: \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b) everything works fine - all the necessary elements are being retrieved (except for the EE element are amonth them, but it doesn't matter). The problem is that this line is a part of a more complex regex, so when I'm trying to apply a regex like this: (?s).*\sas.*? \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b)*.* .*as It only returns me just the first AB-12/34 element and nothing else. How to correct the regex to get all the elements? TIA.

Though the present context is Disease Modelling, I'm not sure if there's such a thing as 'general' modelling and simulation... with concepts / techniques / algorithms that could be used in just about any domain (and not just limited to biology, finance, trade, economic, weather, etc.) Would you have any recommendations that are easy to read by a semi-Math-literate programmer? Basically, I cannot afford to drown myself in too much Math and theory behind M & S, hence this post. Tia...

  Hi there, How can I make my static-file root directories relative to my application root folder (instead of a hard-coded path)? In accordance with CP instructions (http://www.cherrypy.org/wiki/StaticContent) I have tried the following in my configuration file: tree.cpapp = cherrypy.Application(cpapp.Root()) tools.staticdir.root = cpapp.current_dir but when I run cherrpy.quickstart(rootclass, script_name='/', config=config_file) I get the following error builtins.ValueError: ("Config error in section: 'global', option: 'tree.cpapp', value: 'cherrypy.Application(cpapp.Root())'. Config values must be valid Python.", 'TypeError', ("unrepr could not resolve the name 'cpapp'",)) I know I can do configuration from within the main.py file just before quickstart is called (eg. using os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(file))), but I prefer using the idea of a separate configuration file if possible. • MooTools events not firing in IE8

• Wrong assembly-references for Silverlight Sketchflow project in Blend 3

  Hello, In my installation of Blend 3, the SketchStyles are missing when a new project is created. I found out that this is because the following automatic references in the project are wrong: Microsoft.Expression.Interactions Microsoft.Expression.Prototyping.Interactivity Microsoft.Expression.Prototyping.RunTime Microsoft.Expression.Prototyping.SketchControls In the project references these all point to my project path (where they don't live). If I remove them manually, and instead set the references to ie this: "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Expression\Blend 3\Interactivity\Libraries\Silverlight\Microsoft.Expression.Interactions.dll" everything works. Any ideas on why, and how to fix this? Could it be the project template somehow? TIA

• linq to sql dynamic data modify object before insert and update

  I'm using Dynamic Data and LINQ to SQL for some admin pages on a .NET 3.5 web app. All my admin tables a CreatedBy, CreatedDate, UpdatedBy, and UpdatedDate. I'm looking for a way to inject the setting of these properties before the objects are inserted and updated. I've seen an object_inserting hook if you have a linq to sql datasource in the web form, but I'm using dynamic data...is there an easy way to generically set that? And I've also looked at modifying each of the partial classes for my admin objects, but the closest hook I see is to implement the OnValidate method with the Insert action. Any suggestions? TIA.

• Sniffing LPT Traffic

  I need to intercept LPT output traffic. After a couple of hours of research, I've come to understand that the only way to do this is by writing a kernel-mode driver, more precisely a "filter driver"...? I've downloaded the WDK, but the terminology and vast number of driver types is a little overwhelming. I'm basically trying to understand what kind of driver I should be writing; my target environment is Windows XP SP2 and 3 only. Some background info, if it matters: I have a bunch of legacy DOS apps that print to LPT1. I'd like to be able to capture this output and redirect this data (after GDI calls) to a modern USB (network) printer. Fortunately, the latter part of the problem's easy. I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction. TIA.

• Surgical slave reads for Ruby on Rails, mulitple databases.

  Greetings, I'm currently working on a multiple database rails application. I want to off load the SELECT queries on to the slave databases for only SOME of the databases or specific models. The issue is that in places, we swap out the current database connection and put in a different one for a short time; to load fixtures or to handle sharding. Does anyone have any recommendations on a ruby gem that 1. will split select/(sql writes) with a considerable amount of control. We want to handle just some models and we are looking for a neat surgical fix. 2. does not monkey around with activerecord. 3. is still being maintained. TIA -daniel
