• Python and database

  hello.. Am working on a personal project, where i need to manipulate values in a database-like format.. Up until now, am using dictionaries, tuples, and list to store and consult those values. Am thinking about starting to use SQL to manipulate those values, but I dont know if its worth the effort, because I dont know anything about SQL, and I dont want to use something that wont bring me any benefits (if I can do it in a simpler way, i dont want to complicate things) if am only storing and consulting values, what would be the benefit of using SQL? PS: the numbers of row goes between 3 and 100 and the number of columns is around 10 (some may have 5 some may have 10 etc)

  I'm doing an application that puts tons of sprites on the screen in random position, like throwing cards on a table, but after a while it starts to drop the fps, because all the sprites still there. What I would like to do is adding the sprites but like an image, what's behind isn't stored. There are some way to do that? the code looks like this: var mySprite:MySprite = new MySprite(); mySprite.x = random; mySprite.y = random; mySprite.rotation = random; addChild(mySprite); Ps: I will not have to mess with them after they are on the screen.

• How to escape/strip special characters in the LaTeX document?

  We implemented the online service where it is possible to generate PDF with predefined structure. User can choose a LaTeX template and then compile it with an appropriate inputs. The question we worry about is the security, that the malicious user was not able to gain shell access through the injection of special instruction into latex document. We need some workaround for this or at least a list of special characters that we should strip from the input data. Preferred language would be PHP, but any suggestions, constructions and links are very welcomed. PS. in few word we're looking form mysql_real_escape_string for LaTeX

I want to have different names for different submits but I am not able to get its value in another page. Is there any way for it?

• Console App Mouse-Click X Y Coordinate Detection/Comparison

  I have a game that I am working on in a C# console application, purely as practice before going on to better methods. As opposed to using something such as a Windows Forms App, which has button functionality built in, I am endeavoring to grab the cursor position (which I know how to do) and compare it to a number of area's inside a console application as defined by perhaps pixel location, but I also do not know if there is some sort of built in unit of space other than pixels (this last bit is the part I am unable to figure). P.S. I know this is in general terms, with no code already provided, but I do not feel that it is needed as all I am asking for is a brief explanation of how to grab X Y coordinates inside a console application, and stick them in int variables.   I have two HashMaps and I can iterate both hashmaps with following code Iterator it = mp.entrySet().iterator(); while (it.hasNext()) { Map.Entry pairs = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String firstVal = pairs.getValue(); } Iterator it2 = mp2.entrySet().iterator(); while (it2.hasNext()) { Map.Entry pairs2 = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String SecondVal = pairs2.getValue(); } myFunction(firstVal, SecondVal) Is there anyway to iterate two hashmaps at the same time without using two loops? Currently, I have a method that accepts two parameters and each parameter value is stored in first and second hashmap. I have to iterate first hash then second to get values. I think there must be a good way to do it but I don't know :( P.S: there could be some errors in above code as this is just an example to explain my problem. Each iterator is a method in original program and accept one parameter. I couldn't copy past real time functions as they are HUGE !

• Visual Studio 2008 Navigate Forewards/Backwards Buttons Don't Work As Expected

  I just installed VS2008 on my new Win7 box. I have Navigate Backwards and Navigate Forwards buttons on my tool bar. When I change between documents, I do NOT see a list drop down for each of the buttons like should be seen here after opening multiple documents and switching between their methods: How it should work. Instead, I just see the buttons without drop downs. I find that navigating forwards and backwards doesn't work as it should. I should be able to click in different lines of the code and press the nav back/forwards buttons to jump between lines. This is not the case. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced. PS - I installed SP1 just to see and nothing changed.

• Trimming a vector of strings

  I have an std::vector of std::strings containing data similar to this: [0] = "" [1] = "Abc" [2] = "Def" [3] = "" [4] = "Ghi" [5] = "" [6] = "" How can I get a vector containing the 4 strings from 1 to 4? (i.e. I want to trim all blank strings from the start and end of the vector): [0] = "Abc" [1] = "Def" [2] = "" [3] = "Ghi" Currently, I am using a forward iterator to make my way up to "Abc" and a reverse iterator to make my way back to "Ghi", and then constructing a new vector using those iterators. This method works, but I want to know if there is an easier way to trim these elements. P.S. I'm a C++ noob. Edit Also, I should mention that the vector may be composed entirely of blank strings, in which case a 0-sized vector would be the desired result.

• How do you set a double value to a "non-value"

  I have two double data elements in an object. Sometimes they are set with a proper value and sometimes not. When the form field from which they values are received is not filled I want to set them to some value that tells me, during the rest of the code that the form fields were left empty. I can't set the values to null as that gives an error, is there some way I can make them 'Undefined'. PS. Not only am I not sure that this is possible, it might not also make sense. But if there is some best practice for such a situation I would be keen to hear it.

  Hello, I am posting this question as I couldn't find the answer (which is probably very easy, but apparently not for me) anywhere.. I am new to FreshBooks (no only the API) and I want to use it for some automatically generated invoices. I was trying to run some of the source code examples (the PHP and JS libraries in particular): http://developers.freshbooks.com/api/samplecode/ The problem is that I get an error message: "Connection error" Do I need to set up anything else in the example files besides my API and token obtained from the FreshBooks site? • Flash Displaying Weird Text in a Dynamic Text Field

  I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me? PS. • Where is the windows app installed + .NET + VS2005

  I deployed a windows application in the following website http://StagingServer/MyProgs/MPP/ on my intranet site, using the Publish Wizard of VS 2005... I accepted all defaults (including Offline support). My users were also able to install the same from the path specified. But when I try to find out the exact location of the EXE in the client, it is not pointing anywhere. I also tried a file search but in vain. Initially I thought the application is running from the server itself, but we were able to start the app, even when the server is down (ofcourse it takes more time to search for updates initially). Ps : The app is showing even in control panel... Raja

  In C, I am writing a program which is taking in user input than comparing it to see which output it should use. I am finding it problomatic and was wondering if someone could give me a hand.   Hello! I decidet to start my own web project. It should be highload project, and I can't decide which technologies should I use. I'm good in ASP.NET MVC, but I like languages like Python more than C#. I read a lot about Python and Django/Pylons/etc but I didn't find any good examples of highload projects on python. So, the question is: Is Python good for highload project? Is it enough fast? And if it is, are python frameworks like django/pylons/etc good for this? Or asp.net mvc will be better choice?   What is the simplest/best way to ensure only 1 copy of given script is running - assuming it's bash on linux? At the moment I'm doing: ps -C script.name.sh > /dev/null 2>&1 || ./script.name.sh but it has several issues: it puts the check outside of script it doesn't let me run the same script from separate accounts - which I would like sometimes. -C checks only first 14 characters of process name Of course I can write my own pidfile handling, but I sense that there should be some simple way to do it.

  I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. My question is following: Is there an option to make changes to the code so that the folder can be created in "program files" nad that files can be saved in this folder? • Rails streaming file download

  I'm trying to implement a file download with Rails. I want to eventually migrate this code to using S3 to serve the file. I've copied the Rails send_file code almost verbatim and I cannot seem to get it to stream a file to the user. What happens is that it sends 'a' file to the user, but the downloaded file itself simply contains the text.inspect of the Proc: # What am I doing wrong here? options = {} options[:length] = File.size(file.path) options[:filename] = File.basename(file.path) send_file_headers! options render :status => 200, :text => Proc.new { |response, output| len = 4096 File.open(file.path, 'rb') do |fh| while buf = fh.read(len) output.write(buf) end end } Ps: I've read in a number of other posts that it's not advisable to send files through the Rails stack, and if possible serve using the web server, or in the case of S3 use the hashed URL it can provide. Yes, we really do want to serve the file through the Rails stack.
